    I totally agree on the quarantine of fish. I have learned this from you Travis, and I THANK YOU for that!!! You remember all of the fish I lost with my last system. I now have Two clowns, a mimic tang, a yellow tang, a lawn mower blenny, a coral beauty, (who may be evicted) 2 pajama cardinals, a yellow goby, a green goby, a watchman goby and a solon fairy wrasse who are all fat and happy in my system I have now and they all did very well in QT. I did it in stages.....no worries My pajama cardinals are actually having babies in my tank which is awesome and very cool to watch. Thanks again

    Very informative. Great video. I have a Hippo, a Chocolate Tang and a TwoBar Rabbit in my QT now. They were in for a week before I added any meds to make sure they were eating. I started PraziPro and dosed twice over 2 weeks. Once that was done, I went to copper using Cooper Power. During my ramp up to 2.5ppm I noted the Blue Tang started breaking out. Looks like Ich but hard to tell. I have heard they break out for no reason sometimes. Have you seen this before? Copper is currently at about 2.4. Should be at 2.5 tomorrow. That will be a one week ramp up. Then I will keep it there for 30 days.

    Interesting info on the online fish acclimation. I'm going to try and find more information on it now. I only use divers den when ordering fish and they have their acclimation protocol included (standard, sure you've seen it). I've always followed it and haven't lost a fish yet (from divers den). Now I'm wondering if I should switch to the other method. The thing popping into my head though is 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' so we'll see.

    Great watch, only thing i can think of for the "Hippo Tang" is you might not of had the copper at Therapeutic levels for the copper, however you should try hypo with copper. It works big time, try Copper Power too. Copper Power is great for Wrasses and Angels, it's a lot safer than Cupramine on safety levels of the copper it's self (I am a big fan of Cupramine though to be fair.)

    I have heard of acclimating them that way from the fresh water side , I believe it was from Joey. He floats them and then put some right in the tank due to the ammonia. Not sure if he was the original author, Great tip didn’t know it would work for salt water as well

    Hi! We started a quarantine two weeks ago with a tang and a foxface. We used copper and follow the treatment as describe in the manual. Today was the last day with a copper dosis and our tang is full of marine ich, but still swimming well and eating well. The foxface doesnt show any signs of ich. We did the mistake (well I guess thats why it dint work...) having filtermedia (some kind of ceramics balls from eheim) in the filter... this probably absorbed too much copper, if what we read is true. What should we do? Start the treatment with copper again? Thanks for your help! Cheers, A.

    How often are you doing water changes in your quarantine tanks? I heard you say you waited two weeks before beginning a series of water changes? Will that take care of the build up of ammonia and nitrates? I was thinking of doing weekly water changes to keep the ammonia and nitrates down but didn't want to do it too soon or wait too long. Thanks!

    Hi love ur fish but I have a question I had a 55 gal to start and a fish got ich on there so I then got a 90 gal then I decided to set up a 180 g but with the knowledge of taking down the 55 so after I moved all the coral out of there I treated the tank with copper safe about the last 2 months now I have a sand bed in there and I really don’t want to introduce ich into my 180 so do I have to requarentine my yellow tang or can I add him to the new build since he has been in the 55 with coppersafe for 2 months and he has never shown signs of ich ever but my rabbit fish that’s the only fish in the 180due to having ich really bad but I quarantined him for months and cured him ?

I was doing a reboot and currently am cycling it after replacing all the water. What do I need to do , to ensure that whatever killed the stock isn't around anymore?

      I'm using a 5 gallon tank with a heater,and a sponge filter. Keep an extra sponge in your main tank for bacteria for the quarentine tank,or add live bacteria like fluval. You'll know when to change the water depending on your test parameters. High nitrates equal water change. I try and do half of the water in the tank as a change. In my main tank I do a 25% water change once every week,depending on what my test kit says. Get and API saltwater test kit. Good luck and happy reefing.

    We finally have a far superior option for testing both methods (Ionic - Cupramine & Chelated - Coppersafe/ Copperpower) versus the visual kits for accurate dosing and achieving constant therapeutic levels.
    Hopefully this leads to less qt "failures" and more importantly, less fish losses from copper over-dosing.

    Great vid Travis. Has anyone done any testing regarding the ammonia spike that Happens when you open a bag with fish after 24 hours or so? I have always heard this and wondered what it actually went up to. Also, many top internet sellers of fish use pure oxygen when bagging the fish. How much value does this have after 24 hours? Hopefully we can get more science behind this which will lead to better care of the fish we keep.

    He i like your vids but disagree a little with you on this one. First you have mostly easy to keep fish except the blue tang you have in qt now. For harder fish its often very dangerous to qt them, and its better to give them a fresh water dip and do them in the tank or a box in the tank. I get that they can threat all your fish then, but healthy fish can easely battle ich and most other parasites even more the easyer fish most people get. I hope I havent offended you and you try to tell the people this side as well next time :)

    • @FishOfHex
      @FishOfHex  6 лет назад +11

      Iv quarantined a thousand fish this way and if a fish is to sensitive that it can't be QT it shouldn't be in our aquariums. It's not worth risking an entire tank
