    Interesting, Love Qatar Airways, don't know what this has to do with Trump. The word in the industry is that the UAE didn't like QR gaining market share by funneling loads of passengers to Dubai & Abu Dhabi. The UAE & Saudi used Qatar's relationship with Iran against them. However, the UAE & Saudi have plenty flights to Iran, and still maintain normalized relations.

    • @goytabr
      @goytabr 3 года назад +8

      True for the UAE, but there are currently no direct flights between Iran and Saudi Arabia, except some charters bringing pilgrims during the Hajj season. However, I think banning Qatar Airways became hard to justify after the UAE accepted El Al and Saudi Arabia allowed Israeli overflights -- After just a few months, Dubai is already the busiest and most profitable route out of Tel Aviv, believe it or not! It was awkward that Israeli planes could now overfly Saudi Arabia and land in the UAE, but fellow Arab planes couldn't. On a larger political scale, Saudi Arabia was worried that it was losing its influence in the Gulf and saw that the blockade pushed Qatar even closer to Iran, which also thanked them for the revenue from Qatar Airways' overflight fees...

    5:50 "...when you have almost no airspace of your own..." _Singapore has entered the chat?_ (It has to rent airspace from Indonesia as the stacking pattern for planes landing at Changi Airport overflies the Indonesian Riau island of Batam, while Seletar Airport is just 4km south of Malaysia, with it's opening as a commercial airport delayed by ~4 months as Malaysia refused to approve flight plans over it into the airport if it had ILS installed, supposedly because the ILS flight path would impose building height restrictions on parts of Malaysia. Singapore eventually relented, but that also meant that all inbound flights into that airport had to be cancelled when haze spread from nearby Indonesia in Sep 2019)

    6:19 - you forgot South America, with the Doha-São Paulo daily flight (then on a 777-200LR, now on an A350-900). They had to fly over Oman, then Ethiopia, the Congos and Gabon before crossing the Atlantic. The return flight went usually north up the Atlantic until Mauritania, then over the Sahara to Tunisia, then over the Mediterranean to Turkey, then over Iraq and the Gulf to Doha (it became slightly shorter after Qatar Airways took the risk of overflying Syria again, so far without incidents). That added 1:30-2 hours to the flight time and made Qatar lose some market to Emirates, because even though Dubai is slightly farther from São Paulo than Doha, the flight was a bit shorter because Emirates didn't have to make a long detour. Still, Qatar Airways never canceled the route and kept a daily frequency even at the worst of the Covid lockdowns. São Paulo is South America's largest aviation hub and it funnels traffic not only from Brazil, but also from all other South American countries.
    South America also receives a lot of Qatar Cargo flights and they were somewhat hampered, too, although they usually have an intermediate stop somewhere and are also often chartered on completely different routes.

    • @NonstopDan

      Glad the flight times have been significantly lowered on their twice daily flights to GRU at least!

    • @goytabr
      @goytabr 3 года назад

      @@NonstopDan, once daily, and Qatar Airways did cancel the onward leg to Buenos Aires, because unlike Brazil, Argentina has had a strict closed-borders policy during most of the pandemic. Emirates didn't want to lose ground and also kept its daily flight to São Paulo, albeit downgrading it from an A380 to a 777-300ER and axing the Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and Santiago routes. Ethiopian also kept flying to São Paulo. Turkish suspended the route for a while, but they're back now. Both Qatar and Ethiopian Cargo have also been frequent visitors, bringing medical supplies from China.

    Qatar airways volume of flights to GCC countries was solely about providing easy access to Doha for long haul flights. Doha had no interest in passengers coming to Doha within the GCC region. They wanted to beat Emirates on long haul and the only way to do that was to give away the transit to Doha in the long haul price.

      @@NonstopDan Well they are'nt actually . FYI, they have just reopened their borders and that doesn't mean the quartet especially UAE and BAHRAIN have resolved their diplomatic conflicts with qatar yet .You must need to get your facts checked. One of the major reasons for the conflict was that qatar and their sponsored arabic news media Al jazeera were meddling in other govt's internal affairs and supporting terrorism and spreading hatred in the region and these are not pointless demands as you'd said in the vid. The GCC had kept constantly warning them .
      I don't blame you for not knowing these because you don't live in this region. But please don't taint your Amazing Vids with politics and try to be more neutral.

      Let’s assume for argument’s sake that they both are. Still, why did you have to take Qatar’s side of the story?
      Yes I am from Saudi Arabia and yes I am biased but I’m NOT asking you to refute Qatar’s side and adapt our side. I’m merely asking for simple neutrality from you as an amazing creator of whom I have great respect.
      Thank you for being open to my (hopefully) constructive criticism.

      You could assume that this video is taken from an airline PoV instead of Government PoV (which is much more fitting anyway since all other details are revolving airlines). Unless you believe that the airline is controlling Aljazeera or supporting terrorism itself (which is ridiculous)

      @@zeroyuki92 You gotta check your facts mate.... The airline, the channel al jazeera and almost every major entities in that country is either owned directly or indirectly by the government. The govt literally controls everything and allot funds for em.

    Even with those restrictions Qatar Airways still managed to have amongst the best prices around aswell as the best service.. They are fantastic and emirates and others really need to try harder to equal the prices Qatar offers

    Dan .. Thank you for making this video, as a Qatari .. it was a shock for us all what happened .. in one day our friends and distant families of those countries believed everything that was told in their news, and we became the enemy over a night.
