I absolutely love this sports anime and I would always tell my friends to watch it. Run with the wind is one of my favourites along with Slam Dunk. The novel recently got an English translation and you know I had to buy it. Thank you for making this video, hope others will find this and watch the anime.
I remember watching this anime as my first sports anime. I wondered how tf they made anime about running interesting. The story telling is smth special, I guess this is the same studio who wrote manga and made anime of Haikyuu since this is the same level of storytelling and lookalike animation
That's the usual first reaction when you tell someone there is a show about X sport. But now, more people are getting accustomed to the fact you can make sports interesting. After all, we have Rocky, don't we? Anything can be made interesting, you just need the right writers.
I love running and I still distinctly remember that watching this anime gave me so much joy. I went on so many good runs after watching episodes of this. This has been a sleeper for so long. Glad it is getting the recognition it deserves.
This anime really marked me. I was running to lose weight, then one day I pushed myself despite the pain and muscle fatigue then I found myself in a quiet relaxed state of mind like I'm in a deep meditation. It was night time I was running alone everything was perfect. The pain and fatigue was gone I felt like I could run forever. It puzzled me and in the same week I found this anime. I couldn't believe how well they capture that feeling I was feeling. One of the best anime I've ever seen.
I watched run with the wind going into my first season of cross country and when I started running for the first time, it changed my outlook on the sport, I have rewatched it a few times now my appreciation for the series increasing, and now I'm even going into my first season of being a collegiate runner, I don't think I would be doing the sport at this level without this show. A little detail I love about the show is each of the characters run with slight differences in their form, its really a love letter to the sport
I'm so happy you decided to make a video on Run with the Wind. I've been running competitively since I was in middle school and I'm in my final years of college and I've managed to join my college's track and cross country team. This anime was instrumental in my development as a person and as an athlete because it so accurately depicts what a lot of endurance athletes go through. It's such an easy watch for anyone that I somehow convinced some of my close friends on my collegiate team to watch it and they also loved it. Thank you for making a video on this criminally under watched anime. If anyone is reading this and also loves this show I've been on the hunt for more content with this story and my dream is coming true October 15th of this year as the book that the series is based on is finally getting an official English translation released worldwide. If you love the series and have the disposable income to spend it please consider getting the novel this October if you loved the show. I'm sure the book is just as good as the show. Again thank you AniEssays for making a video on Run with the Wind I'm definitely going to give in another watch thanks to you
I feel like kicking myself that back in 2018 I wasnt ready to watch this anime, like, I got through a single episode and was bored out of my mind. Now more than 5yrs later, it is so beloved to me, and I appreciate everything about it so much. I go running occasionally now and adore it, after complaining my whole life my neighbourhood was too ugly to enjoy smth like running. University kinda sucks, but I am so inspired & motivated, and it truly is the show that is shaping my life rn, so thank you for sharing your love of it w/everyone! ^w^
I LOVE this show. I watched it after catching up with Haikyuu and just enjoyed the college setting and every character. The MUSIC is phenomenal - I think Yuki Hayashi is doing his best work here. My only issue is the animation of Prince’s running - a 45-minute 5k doesn’t look THAT slow!
The music is so good! And agree with Prince, would have been cool if they had a moment from the audience’s perspective where you see how competent he has become as a runner near the end
The event they join is the Hakone Ekiden. The Ekiden being the relay race, situated in the mountains of Hakone. :) Loved this anime so much and the opening song is a banger. I'm happy to see someone talk about it on YT.
This series planted itself tight into my heart and it will stay there forever. I found it when I saw an article talking about new kind of sports series that focus on the emotional aspects rather than results. I had already watched and loved Tsurune, which was the other series mentioned in the article, and even though I was apprehensive about the sport being long distance running, I decided to try it. One of the best decisions I've made.
I came across this video about a month ago and decided Id watch the show and then come back to this. All I can say is thank you for introducing me to the best Anime I've ever watched and my new all time favourite. A simply perfect story.
Thank you! I can't bring myself to rewatching them after bawling my eyes out at the last EPs but I still love them to this very day~ the OST from Taichi Mukai still my favorite and on the top of my playlist too
Just saw this on recommended, can't believe people still watch and remember this. This was my first sport anime I watched and finished it 4 times. My brother and I enjoyed this one since we both are experienced runners and can relate to this anime. It sucks that they haven't continued the series after that. If possible, hopefully it gets picked up again
to this day I don't understand why this anime flies so far under the radar. This is not only my favorite sports anime but also one of my top anime across all genres. It inspired me to want to run for like 5 minutes but my fatass still never really got off the couch.
16.5 minutes over 5k is FAST. So for Prince to get down from 30 min (which is a bit above average) to nearly half that (with that form) is remarkable. I loved how well the story expressed each character. After you find the one you relate to, there was opportunity to develop compassion for each of the other's unique motivations and challenges. Great for the story, but also useful to consider in our real life relationships and communities. Everybody has their things. Lovely critique.
Came back to this after I decided to watch the anime 15 seconds into the video. This anime is something special, I cannot wait for the English translation of the book to release this October. Thank you for sharing this video with us, without it there’s a chance I wouldn’t have found this anime. My journey to run will begin soon!
SUPER underrated sports anime that was deep on the life lessons of running and provides an insight into the sport of running, something I’ve seen all over Japan but not covered extensively enough. Thanks for covering this!
I really loved this anime because I am a competitive runner myself. My pb is 15 minutes in the 5k and 2:35 in the marathon. I’m glad non runners can enjoy this anime as well
I never really cared for King because it felt like after his episode and even in it his conflict was resolved and they moved on, then in his freakin monologue he had to resonate with me so heavily I started crying, pissed me off.
I’ve watched this series about 5 times, every single time it still feel so fresh and touching. Every time I watch it, I feel like I discover something new, things that I didn’t notice earlier. Also, the characters are not ‘buffed’ (I mean, winning every tournament like other sport animes) and their problems make it so relatable!! The ending songs are ❤️🔥❤️🔥 (though I wish the anime was longer)
I’m a long time competitive runner who absolutely loves running and this genuinely gave me goosebumps, it made me want to race again, it sums up what it’s like too run and not just run but race too. The way a crowd can pick you up and the way you just fall in love with the sport.
@@aniessaysI can't explain how grateful I am for you posting this. It led me to this absolute masterpiece. The section of the video where you described this as leaving a void hit the nail on the head. At the same time I'm sitting here with tears streaming down my face watching the ending filled with unfiltered joy. Thank you for your part in guiding me here and thank you to the creators. Run with the Wind is among my all time favorites now. Keep doing what you do.
Im not even finished yet and i fell in love with that Anime 😭😭❤️🔥 It really gave me some Haikyuu Vibes, not only Animation but also awesome Story building. The show keeps getting better with each episode and got me soo hyped up to give it my best ❤️🔥 What a great show, the slice of life really gree on me here ☺️
Run with the wind was the anime that made me start running , i started even at the age of 23 just because of it , now after a year I'm aiming for becoming a sub elite runner
I was a cross country runner in high school but things like lose of connection with my team after high school and just a lack of energy from working to run after words I got heavily out of shape by comparison but after finding out about this show and I started watching it it motivated me seeing others even if fictional struggling with collage and finding time to do a long activity like distance running motivated me to get up watch a episode of 2 of this show and get out on a run and start training for a up and coming 5k and running or biking is something even if its hard to find time for because of said busy collage life style I try to find time for in a vain attempt to be able to run like I use to. Run with the wind captures what long distance running as a sport so well everything from your team cheering you on to the danm cowbells (I hated those things) to the constant effort and dedication it takes my only problem is it is unrealistic for alot of them to run a sub 16 30 5ks its something most high school runners who run for 6+ years dont get but its sports anime if I wanted 100% realism im watching the wrong genera.
I really appreciate your story. I used to live in Asia and badminton was (I still enjoy it when come to visit my country) always my go-to sports for years. I had train and played it on-and-off with my dad, his friends, and my friends. I really enjoyed the sport but didn't really find time to train. I know the feeling of falling off and getting out of shape and getting beaten by your teammates because of inconsistency. In 2023, I was introduced to long distance running by my aunt. I have stayed consistent and have been running 3-4 times a week. Unlike Badminton, it doesn't matter whether i am motivated or not. The fact that I only need running shoes is enough to get me out to run in different areas. Even with my busy college and work, I am still able to find time because of its simplicity. Right now, me and family are sharing our runs to motivate one another. Every time i see my dad beat my record, it just keeps me training more. Every time I see him and myself achieve times I could never imagine, it just keeps me running more.
I watched this anime because I signed up for a marathon. As I was watching I kept thinking, "Prince went from not running. To being able to run a 5:30 mile half Marathon..and he is the slowest...im busting my ass trying to get a 9min mile 😢"
I’m no hating but I’m so tired of anime doing the whole “friendship is king, the only problems I got is about running, nothing else exists in the world”…
Prince’s monologue, “I hate running but if I quit, I’d hate myself more,” resonates with me.
goddamn thats deep

It is based on a award winning novel. I also remember watching the live action of this way back 2012-2014 I think (it is a movie first before Anime)
That's the usual first reaction when you tell someone there is a show about X sport.
But now, more people are getting accustomed to the fact you can make sports interesting.
After all, we have Rocky, don't we? Anything can be made interesting, you just need the right writers.
So happy to see someone hyping up Run With The Wind! Its been a hidden gem for ages and it has a special place in my heart ♥
It is so good! Wish I watched it sooner!

I'm so happy to see a recent video on Run with the Wind. Such an underrated show. The music and story are beautiful. I hope more people give it a shot
I gave this a 10 on MAL. Absolutely incredible series I love it

I am in the middle of a rewatch of this anime, amazing timing ❤️❤️‼️
U love to see it!!!!
This was amazing that episode when they go on a retreat camp training and the breeze comrs through the trees was so epic
This has been on my top 5 anime ever since I saw it on 2018. I am glad more people actually appreciated this quiet masterpiece.
it is so good! Feels like it could be one of those shows I try to re watch once a year

The thing is, running even irl captures the same human spirit! I think that contributes to how amazing the anime is.

Shindo grinding it out during his 20km was so heart breaking
Brings tears to my eyes
been waiting on a vid of yours about this anime. thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
As someone who has run most of my life and did cross country in high school, I was excited about this series, and was happy that it was good to boot.
Great anime, i'm happy to see someone speak about it
I really loved this anime because I am a competitive runner myself. My pb is 15 minutes in the 5k and 2:35 in the marathon. I’m glad non runners can enjoy this anime as well
Wow! That’s quite fast! I ran cross country in high school and never came close to touching those times. Very impressive!
Boy is zoomin 🏃♀️⚡

LETS GOOO! It is so good!!
SUCH a good show, I'm glad someone made a video on this. Subscribed
U love to see it 🙏🙏🙏
Awesome vid! Such a fantastic character-driven story.
Thank you!
Each of them are so dear to me. I really loved this anime (I watched it last year) and it really motivated me, specially Nico's retaking his passion.
I stopped at "Prince" because I don't want to be spoiled. You convinced me to watch it so thank you. ✌🏾
Love to see it! Come back here and let me know what you thought once you finish!

FINALLY RUN WITH THE WIND GETS THE COVERAGE IT DESERVES!!! W VIDEO!
This is genuinely one of the best spontaneous watches I’ve ever experienced, such a goated anime

What a great show, the slice of life really gree on me here ☺️
Thanks youtube. First time ive seen coverage on this anime. Lov3d it much.
im so glad i watched this anime
Since i watcched this, i started running again, and watch the Ekiden every new year
This one falls under the radar. It is honestly very good.
100% agree, must watch for all sports anime fans
i wouldnt say this is a sports anime (it is) but i say this is more slice of life dude this show is so pure and innocent i freaking love it
FYI, ekiden is the event. Hakone is the place.
Run with the wind was the anime that made me start running , i started even at the age of 23 just because of it , now after a year I'm aiming for becoming a sub elite runner
That is amazing!!
Watched it in japanese and english multiple times. So so good and so motivating 🎉
I cant say it is number 1 because Hajime no Ippo and Haikyuu exists but easily number 3 i don't even like running but this made me try it out.
Love to hear that! I think it is top 3 sports anime for me as well, which is crazy considering it is only 23 eps
I would say Ace of Diamond also comes into the mix for all time top sports anime but all of these are unbelievable masterpieces.
I would like to add in Slam Dunk and Real as well, really sports genre is stacked as hell with amazing stories
Might have to rewatch soon. I wish this thing somehow got a season 2.

that was hajime no ippo for me
I love this anime so much
This anime it's Great but Hajime no Ippo still the GOAT of Sports Anime. It's my favorite Anime. 🥊🥊
I watched this anime because I signed up for a marathon. As I was watching I kept thinking, "Prince went from not running. To being able to run a 5:30 mile half Marathon..and he is the slowest...im busting my ass trying to get a 9min mile 😢"
Yowamushi Pedal is my favorite!
So now we have runner kageyama, asahi and aran😂 jk, loved the video and definitely convinced me to give this show a go🫡
It really is like watching Running Kageyama 🤣🤣 I hope you enjoy it!!
the best sport anime
Absolutely peak
Is this made by the same people that made Free!?
Watched this when aired weekly and omg I’m obese and I got into running so passionately but unfortunately I’ve stopped after 3 weeks 😢
It’s not a track and field team brother. It’s a cross country team.
i don`t even watch anime.....how did i get here
The watchalong was fun, so glad I watched this underrated anime! Never thought I’d be getting so emotional over running 🥹
Has been my favorite sports anime since it came out. Glad its still getting love
It is so good!
