Cha Chaan Teng (Hong Kong) Breakfast 🇭🇰

  • It's breakfast time in Hong Kong, that's the time that the locals go to a Cha Chaan Teng (Tea restaurant). They hit up the fusion dishes such as beef satay on instant noodles, pineapple bun and yuenyeung (tea/coffee), they then go to the office and overwork. I do almost exactly the same, except for the bit about overworking.
I'm a bit critical about this food, but I'm in Chengdu and just this afternoon I walked past a Cha Chaan Teng and I got genuinely excited. I'm gonna hit it up tomorrow! Seems like the English in me is resonating with it.
    Ok, please enjoy :)

You have good classic chopsticks skills for an Aussie. Born in Tsuen Wan but reside near Disney World in central Florida USA.

Thankyou for your compliment. When I was young I spent a lot of time with a Laotian family so I must’ve picked up some chopstick skills from way back. Then in my 20s I became completely obsessed with Vietnamese cuisine which must’ve sealed the deal I guess!! 🥢

@@tuckereats9146 It is rare among non native born Asians. Chopsticks skills are life long. You never lose it once you acquire it. Good one mate. Sorry a little tidbit. This is across the board in penmanship and calligraphy. Technology has taken a lot.

I know right! But surprisingly I still get an occasional hankering for the sweet satay instant noodles….

@@tuckereats9146Satay is from south east Asian. And then Hong Kong and Taiwan both learnt it and put their own twist on it.
You're see at least 3 kinds of it in Hong Kong. The salty kind is everywhere. Sweet kind is common but not everywhere. The peanuty kind, more authentic to its origin, i believe

@@tuckereats9146And the kind you had. You said thin and light sauce, i think it's just not good.

Thanks for the intel 🙏🏼 My favourite satay is from Java and from what you said, it sounds like I tried the least delicious of the three types of satay in HK. But, you know what, I wanna eat it again haha. I’ve thought about it several times since I filmed this episode…

@@li_tsz_fungSatay originated from 潮州(ChaoZhou, GuangDong Province) it was brought to south east Asia by the ChaoZhou Diaspora. Lots of HK people and south east Asians and the foods are ChaoZhou origin. I’m 4th generation 潮州人from south east Asia.

Please read "European Union message to China on human rights day" before going to China.
It looks like very thing is ok. Right?
But actually, Hongkong is not a normal city now. Right now, there are at least 48 persons, including University Professors, Lawyers, Teachers, Reporters spending their 4th year in prison and without trial. China govt is going to keep them in life imprisonment.
It's just because their thoughts are against China. And there are hundreds of Hongkong ordinary people have been sentenced to jail for over 5 years. At least 2 persons in prison were forced to do TV show to say China govt is absolutely right in exchange for less torture in prison.
Even in Africa, country like Senegal, the old president would only keep his rivalry leader Bassirou Diomaye Faye in prison for just 1 year and then allow him to join the president election and let him be the next president after fair election.
