Laura Palmer at the end of the day, do what makes you happy. I changed my mind last minute and chose fashion journalism instead of doing English literature as a degree. Look at the options you have for each subjects. Are you willing to give it your all and also give up the fact about failure, failure is bound to happen to everyone doing ANYTHING, what makes it important is that you’re passionate about it and you’ll keep pushing yourself no matter what. good luck!
It's me who is wasted 2 years in science and graduation in IT sector. Which I personally don't like. Fashion is what I made for and wanted to do in this with courage to speak. I like to give advices and being a leader to lead in an organisation and trying to make them understand about fashion.
i am applying to ual lcc for arts and lifestyle journalism! i have no idea how to format my portfolio/what to include, and this was really helpful. thank you!
Tbh, idk what I should do. I’m both good at designing and writing. I was thinking of taking design or fashion but can’t choose. I guess I have 3 years to figure that out!
Don’t worry! Fashion branding and communication looks at the design and writing aspects, I’ve been looking round at many open days so from the sounds of things that course will be perfect for you
Speedster Wolf hey, I’m so sorry for this late reply, definitely do research in to each course to see if it’ll be suitable for you. I know that for UAL, they’ll give you a little review for each year and what you’re expected to do. Go for open days aswell! They’ll be really helpful and you’ll get to talk to lecturers and students and get an insight! If this makes you feel any better, I thought I was going to do English lit as a degree but ended up doing fashion journalism and made that choice in my last year of college. No one knows unless you explore xx Good luck ! ❤️❤️
Nick hey, I wasn’t given the option of an online submission when applying for the uni, I just did a portfolio so I could show it on the day I was going to get interviewed. Let me know more details and I’ll see if I can help xx
@@InnerChai ah thank you so its to my understanding the online mini portfolio submission determines whether I will be eligible for the actual interview ( another full portfolio review), the mini portfolio should consist of 20 images/drawing/sketches of research and ideas development
@@InnerChai Fashion communication and promotion at UAL, apparently the online submission is new as most people iv asked about portfolios have said they just reviewd it in the interview haha
Nick yeah, I definitely didn’t hear of them doing it in an online submission. Is it in pdf, word, power point format? Cause whatever format they want you to do it in, just follow that. Go creative as possible, do a contents page and put in work that you think would be suitable for your course. Your experience, why you went for the course, how you appeal to the course, work you did in relation to it, so give like examples, maybe put in an essay. Be creative! I don’t know if this is the right advice to give you but I hope you understand where I’m coming from. They want to see YOUR work, so be unique while also appealing to your course xx
Hello I am please begging you to reply. I want to become a fashion journalist but I’m not sure what to apply to. I know that I have to get a degree in journalism of some sort but I don’t know what degree to get in fashion could you please help and maybe provide what colleges provide both of those?
Hey! I’m so sorry you’re going through some difficulties. I would say to go with something that you feel like you are passionate about and that you’d find easy to learn. Being able to already have somewhat of an experience in the degree you are applying for, will also help
Yusra Vaid you don’t necessarily have to fill the whole book up. A portfolio is something that should make you stand out with important information and context that will relate to the role you’re applying for. So here I’m applying for fashion journalism and only put in work, pieces, self written things that I know can be an asset to applying to a fashion school. So, for example, writing an intro about who you are why you want to be on the course. Short and simple. Putting in my written work from my own blog that I useto have, showing them that I’m already building my skills and experience when writing up about fashion (that’s what I’m going to do in the course). I went to a uni and took on a free course for a week that tells about journalisms . I wrote up an article during the course that ended up being published in a uni newspaper. So I put that in the portfolio. I added in my essay from my English literature a-level, showing that I’m experienced in the writing field. Adding in the skills you do on the side like photography etc.
Yep! Media studies would also be an excellent example to put in your portfolio! Especially because fashion journalism/journalism in general resides in the media category. You’ll be learning about all different types of media during your fashion journalism course and how to write for specific media; e.g. social media, print media, broadcast media. I hope you found that helpful! Good luck ❤️
Raeleen Humphrey hi there! Sorry for the late reply, going through all the comments right now. I think I expected so much more in my course. I definitely chose this degree to be able to enjoy it and not just do journalism but to also add the subject of fashion. In general it is a good course and teaches you not only about journalism but also fashion. If you’re REALLY passionate about it, GO FOR IT! I’ve heard that the fashion psychology BA degree is really interesting. If this is something you want to do without feeling a hiccup, then go for it!
Yusra Vaid it’s been 2 years now so I’m not sure entirely, but I know I had to bring in an essay with the chosen essay topic they gave me. I think it was about how journalism is changing, like from print to more digital. What I think about it and what ways you can find journalism. I also brought in other things like a published article for a university I did during sixth form.
Kristal Remigi0 we had to apply through UCA website so we gave it near January (not totally sure) just so you can give it in early, get your application in through first.
Kitana Lourens hey! So I did triple BTEC Business studies and got 3 D* ‘s and I did an a-level in English literature and got a C. Not really the best grades but having my own blogging experience and knowledge on it, really helped. Remember, they don’t want to just see the grades you got but also what extra things you are doing on the side that’ll make you an asset to their university xx Good luck if you’re applying ❤️❤️
Heya! I’m not too sure but I would suggest to do some research on the University’s that you’re going and check their curriculum so you know you can enjoy the course without feeling like you’re wasting a masters xx ✨
Giulia Simionescu hey, I did have an interview but it was just related to my essay, which is media and journalism. How there’s new journalism and how the media effects it. My high school/secondary school grades didn’t count much, obviously when applying you can talk about your English lit and English language grades for GCSE, I had A’s. ALSO took on English lit for my alevels and did triple business studies. What really helped me was making my own blog and letting them know how I use my blog, what content i was writing on there. Show them you’re doing much more than just getting a good grades in school.
Fashion communication has a huge leap towards photography so there may be a tiny bit of maths but nothing major lol, you will always need a pass n maths for uni anyway so you should be good😊
May I ask how you got into the school? What was required? What was the essay topic? Did you bring your portfolio, and was it required? Thank you in advance!
MIUMIU hi, sorry for the late reply, they didn’t really check the portfolio a lot. But I had a question on social media And it’s impact on old school journalism
Somi Zingkhai heyyy, I got it from Wilkinson, if you’re from the UK you’ll know of it. Don’t know if they sell this exact one but they usually have portfolio type/ journal type books xox
I belong here :(
I wasted my two years in science, when I know I love fashion the most.
Mella Ang aww! It’s never too late to start over though!! ❤️❤️
I really feel the same way... I’m torn between science and fashion :(
