- The full title of the song is: "Quand Le Soleil Dit Bonjour Aux Montagnes" ("The French Song")
At A&M Records, Starr recorded a song called "The French Song" that was produced by Herb Alpert] It was recorded in both French and English. In 1964, at a time when The Beatles dominated the music charts, "The French Song" was an international success that made Starr the first Canadian artist to have a record sell over a million copies. The popularity of the song led to a tour of the United States and appearing on the Louisiana Hayride radio show and on Chicago radio station WLS (AM) popular National Barn Dance. Starr also sang on American television musical variety shows such as Shindig! and Hullabaloo, followed by tours of Pacific Rim countries, Australia, South Africa, and across Europe where she became a particular favorite in the Netherlands. Selling sold over one million copies, it was awarded a gold disc.
My late husband romanicly played this song to me in our painful.but loving courting relationship, we managed to adventualy break out ties in other relationships and runaway and marry, unfortunately my husband died unexpectedly at just 47, we courted in the mid 1970's until early 1980's, we were so much in love, and now I hear beautiful ladles voice, I find tears falling...Broken heart, thank you Lucille Starr...❤
This is my late father's favorite song 🎵 ❤️ he passed at home with cancer and this song brought him comfort
As a Canadian who lived in North Bay for eleven years, I am very familiar with this song as well as her, Jolie Jacqueline. We had a steady diet of good French songs since we were so close to the Quebec border. That changed when we moved to Southern Ontario.
My mother just died on December 4th, 2023 so I can identify with your feelings with regard to your dad. I never stop missing them. I hope that this music also brings you comfort as it did for him.
There was also a novelty French song out around the same time called, Je Bois De L'eau Dans Mon Lit D'eau. It was basically about drinking water in my water bed and I remember it like it was yesterday. Take care.
This was one of my mums favorites. She died Januari 1th this year. Love you mume
I’m sorry for your loss ❤
I love Lucille singing this as much today as I did nearly 60 years ago. She was a singing treasure.

Marvellous. Spelling rectified.
I only wish i could get the English lyrics. She has a beautiful voice. My late husband was french canadian, he would have told me the english words.
💯 still awesome
I haven't heard this since '65 when I toured with Lucille in South Africa. It sure brings back memories.
This is one of my very favourite songs and version. Merci Lucille Starr.
My beautiful mother loved this song😢❤
Her voice makes me always emotional prachtig
I remember hearing this song on the radio when I was a kid.
My Grandfather just loved this song
Sorry to hear of her passing. She was such a talented singer. She and Bob were my next door neighbors in Panorama City, CA in the early 1960s. They were such nice people (although little Bobby was kind of a butthead). I remember Bob didn’t like The Beatles and when their movie, A Hard Day’s Night” was about to be released, he wanted to get us kids to picket it with signs that said “Stamp out The Beatles”.
I’ve always thought Lucille was a wonderful singer. This song in particular has always stayed with me. One of the positive aspects of the internet is being able to find these old songs.
Thanks for the memories, much appreciated.
Never been in Canada, neither lived in mid-century, but so comforting song it is.
Lovely song. I'm glad I found Lucille on RUclips. She had many lovely songs.
My grandfather loved this song 2.4.24 🕊
I am retired and live in Arizona. We have a number of Canadian snow birds that live close to us. We were invited to a small party at one of their houses and I heard this wonderful voice, and I mean wonderful, singing "Pick me up on your way Down" I am going to research her music and hope I can find more on RUclips. She is GREAT, right up there with Patsy Cline.
I really admire her voice it's like hearing a angel singing. This song is burn't into my memory and can not get it out of my mind. This one of her very best songs I ever heard.
I agree, the clear voice and the vibrating in her voice l love it, it's a newfoundsong and artist for me

This reminds me of both my mom and my dad. They divorced and she used to sing this a lot. I often wondered if she regretting divorcing him. I also sang this with my father in Quebec when i went to visit him. This also came out the year I was born.
Ironically, it now reminds me a little of my wife now that she's gone (she died last year). Funny how life does that to you.

Une voix me rappelle toujours
Now when the sun says good day to the mountains
And the night says hello to the dawn
I'm alone with my dreams on the hilltop
I can still hear his voice though he is gone
I hear from my door the lovesong through the wind
It brings back sweet memories of you

A woman from Manitoba singing about mountain tops, how ironic!
There s a obviously copied song called; t Kleine Café aan de Haven with composer claim by Dutch artist ; Pierre Kartner. A seemingly Dutch song but derived from the French Song composed in 1965 ; Quand le soleil ....
I totally disagree with that.
@@VideoFunForAll You need to do some research before replying; the French song was composed first in 1965 the melody of the Dutch song is very similar and at singers copyrightclaim about 10 years later. Do you ever read comments before replying?
@JoyAngelyn It s not similar at all. I guess my ears and yours are very different. Here is Piere Kartner's "Het Kleine Cafe aan de Haven", not even close: ruclips.net/video/U3k4HcvCOS4/видео.html

"Restored" with the result that the start of the song has been lost. You find the much better, un-restored song here: ruclips.net/video/uwSKJyfkSPc/видео.html
Love song to the wind
@VideoFunForAll wanted to contact you about licensing this song for a film project, would you be willing to tell me who you reached out to for it?
