Pink Floyd is not just music, its an experience
a spiritual journey
@@rundoetx One I continue to take...
Matthias Dugre' - couldn't agree more, your imagination can take you anywhere listening to Pink Floyd. 👍🇬🇧
you have to experience..lying on your bed, headphones on and close your eyes.. :)
So sad for all those people hwo thinks, PF is a hippie band.
Most guitarists plug in to their amp... David Gilmore plugs into his soul...
Hell yeah he does.
Great lead vocals by Roger Waters. He usually didn't take the lead vocals, leaving that to Gilmour and Rick Wright. He always put himself down as a vocalist, thinking, "I just write them and let Dave and Rick handle the vocals."
@@gregrambo606 yeah, but this song was very personal for Roger.
@@elgenetiamzon1062
Yep, I always felt that. Like he was saying " I've got to do this one;I owe it to Syd."
Love this comment, so true
I am so glad that the old fans of Pink Floyd from the early 1970's like me can watch young people of nowadays appreciate the group's fantastic compositions. Pink Floyd and their music will be heard by music fans in hundreds of years time - they are immortal ! 😘
Yeah even the aliens and other
life forms will be listening to
their music 🎶 👌 😍
17 years old, and I love Pink Floyd, absolute vibe to listen to
Transcendental
floyd started in 66/67
Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Queen, The Police, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Radiohead, Muse, David Bowie, The Sex Pistols, The Kinks, Oasis, The Clash... I could go on for ages. These bands all changed the face of popular music in some way. It's just a shame Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain were American, or we'd have had the full set.
Sweetheart, for the full experience: put on a whole album laying down with headphones on.. Relax and go downstream and feel, just feel. I remember how it felt, a long long time ago when evertyhing was new. Like it is for you now, you take us back to all of that!! Take care!
Right?? Dark Side for sure can pull you out of this world and take you where you should be. It has always brought the balance back into my life.
It’s a shame in the age of the net no one listens to full CDs anymore. Perhaps that’s why there’s so little good music today.
Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream
My dad used to listen to that song on vinyl when I was a baby, it's such a nostalgic one to me!
Shine On You Crazy Diamond - what a deep meaning and strong line, full of sorrow.......
Louder that words........
I know. But the higher I'm listening the music of Pink Floyd and, especially, Syd, the deeper I'm going into this philosophical way. Was this mental illness or something far greater..... Something, that we can't reach?
@Thomas - I'm not sure they felt all that much pain. That's a story others tell, but they were on a rocket-ride to the top and pretty much left him behind without much contact afterward.
This song is about their former member Syd Barrett who was kicked off because of his drug addiction and subsequent mental health issues. It's a simultaneously sad and beautiful song.
The sax parts are by Dick Parry. He's not a full member, but features on a couple of Pink Floyd songs as a session musician.
But mostly he was cast aside because his mind was fried from too much LSD 25 . Whether self induced or it was slipped to him by acid heads is still truly unknown .
The official line is "Syd became a recluse."
The true story becomes apparent if you stitch all of the songs together.
You need to hear the whole album.
@@1brusco Not according to Roger Waters. He said the "LSD" line was made up. He said he was doing LSD but not a lot and he was showing signs of what would be described as schizophrenia before LSD.
He tried to get Syd's family involved and they kept dismissing him as "fine".
So the narrative was "too much LSD" but Waters said he would have been diagnosed with schizophrenia these days.
Remember when you were young, you shined like the sun! That line gets me every time!
'shone' :)
Quite a few years ago I went to Vietnam to visit the site where my dad was killed in the war in 1969. I listened to this album through the entire trip. This particular song I listened to while the sun rose on many mornings. And listened to Wish you were Here where my dad was killed. Very meaningful album for me.
What an incredible , soulful journey that must have been. Sorry for your loss.
Thx for sharing God bless you!
Sorry for your loss
Respect from Italy.
Thank you for your fathers service and ultimate sacrifice. He is why we have the freedoms we do. POW/MIA The Wall of healing just cam to our town. It was escorted through 2 states by motorcycles. It is a 3/4 scale replica to the wall in Washington. If it ever comes to your area you can see your Dad's name. I'm sure you are proud of him.
There are songs, there is music, there is art, then there is PINK FLOYD.
Dick Perry is the guy on saxaphone, he plays on many of their albums
Also this song is about former band member syd barrett
Shine on You crazy Diamond =SYD
Never knew that, thank you 😊
Yeah, David plays the sax in the studio, when he is writing the music. He doesn't perform on any of the records or in the live shows though, reckons he's not good enough.
Michael Gordon he shone like the sun.
I think it's Parry not Perry. Don't mean to be "that guy" and I might be wrong.
berry is brilliant
I am loving watching you discover Freddie mercury, david Bowie, led zeppelin, pink floyd...this is the best music ever and seeing your reaction is wonderful!!
This is how Boomers my age went to sleep at night after a long ass day.
You went to sleep making sure your kids continued the appreciation
I am an old hippie lady in Upstate NY, and have just discovered these reaction videos! So awesome to see you really enjoying this music...thanks for making an old lady smile :)
Isn’t it nice to see someone experience Pink Floyd for the first time
It was such a pleasure to watch you discover this classic Pink Floyd song. This was their homage to Syd Barrett, one of the original members of Pink Floyd. BTW that was a saxaphone not a trumpet. Thanks again for doing this one.
Most Excellent Selection! Pink Floyd has to be my All Time Favourite Band! They NEVER Disappoint! Thanks.
This is an almost 'other worldly' experience, even when you've heard it a hundred times. When you know it, you're just waiting for those pivotal moments and chord changes, and it gives you the chills. Absolutely majestic!
People can't enjoy music like this now, it's so much other stuff going on in their mobile phones and shit.
In the 70's we had time to just sit and TALK, play card or listen to cool music, just relax.
Right?! Todays kids dont know what music truly is! Too busy to just listen and all the music back then was about THE EXPERIENCE, you felt it start build, drop and spin you!
Some people can't, or so they think.
@@robinbeveridge7741 agree, Pink Floyd is music like no other, people try to listen to one track, and give up. You can travel anywhere if listen to the Floyd. But I get a kick out of today's generation listening to yesterday's music 🎵👍🇬🇧
No one listens to full albums anymore, which is perhaps why so little good music is being made these days.
Gilmours's guitar playing has a lyrical quality to it.
I always use this song to fall asleep at night. I just put it on and relax. The song is so calming and really helps suppress my anxiety so I don't lay in bed overthinking for a couple of hours. Usually, I'm fast asleep by the time the song ends and if not I'll have parts 6-9 playing afterwards to seal the deal.
Jeongyeon x Nayeon , I hear you! Echos part 1, does it for me also. To a fellow PF fan. Peace ✌️
Echos part 1? For the studio version, it's just one long song. The 72 concert was broken into two parts.
My younger brother was buried last summer. We played this for him. He was a crazy diamond. But for me, he shone like the sun!
He was a Floyd fan so it's safe to say your bro did shine like the sun. R.I.P to your younger bro may he shine on wherever he is!!!!!!!
@@MaffeyZilog Thanks maffey! Stay safe and (not) comfortably numb!! ✌
Everyone has given the background and meaning to this song, so no need to add to that. But I do want to say that I appreciate so much the way you feel and admire this song as the classic it is. You've got some amazing reactions and I'm a big fan. Thanks for sharing and keep up the amazing work.
one of the best songs they wrote
By far my favourite Floyd song and arguably their best. This song takes you on a whole journey and tells and entire story before they even start singing lol one of my top five all time songs
Music is a beautiful thing. It brings all our different cultures together - I love it all...Dave is like the BB King of English rock. Bless you all.
That is actually Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Part 1 through 5. Later in the album they continue with Parts 6 through 9.
This song is crazy...crazy on peace...my parents gave's me wondefull World od music👍👍👍😌😌😌
Another great classic. Thanks. Been a rough few days, that have had me revisiting a few of your reactions. This reminds me of my cousin, who we lost this morning to 3 year battle with ALS...Shine on Bam Bam, you were a crazy loving diamond. Thanks Jayvee.
That's a brutal way to go. I guess that's why we have music like this to help us deal with shit like that.
low rider I am very sorry for your loss. :(
So sorry for your loss
Sorry for your loss lowrider
Mr. David Gilmore. Thank you Lord for letting us borrow him. The most iconic riff in music history is the opening to this song. Also that's a baritone saxophone being played by Dick Parry. Great track.
It’s musically perfect, but lyrically perfect as well. That line about black holes in the sky is perfect. I’ve heard Nick and David both say that’s exactly how Syd’s eyes looked when they saw him after his breakdown (whatever the reason for it). A sad song of goodbye.
Indeed, sir! I agree for sure.............
I’ve watched several interviews/documentaries about Syd. The onset was rapid and the prevailing thought was a massive dose of LSD. He was also at the age when schizophrenia often appears. He created music after that but it was disjointed. I’ve also read that the band ensured that Syd would receive more than his fair share of earnings and they continued that until his death almost forty years later.
Agree Grahm well said
I lost an Aunt to dementia a couple of years ago, the lyrics describe it perfectly. Where bright happy eyes once shone bright, there were now empty blank stares.
Well said x
This entire album, wish you were here, is a masterpiece! I remember buying it when it came out. I played the tenor saxophone in high school at the time! You should hear it all!
This came out when I was a teenager in the ‘70’s. Man, everybody loved Floyd. They are such a unique, cerebral, philosophical, mental mind-blowing band. I wasn’t into drugs (weed sometimes), but this is considered the number one psychedelic band. You know the hippies that dripped acid, took mushrooms, and even LSD. But you don’t need any of that to truly appreciate the brilliance of this band. It’s timeless. Has stood the test of time. Pretty much all of their songs were about Pink Floyd founding member - Syd Barrett. It was Roger Waters’ obsession.
So sad. RIP Syd Barrett ❤️
This was call stoner music when I was young. Pure perfection that never gets old
Still is ✌😉
I'm 56, I remember as a kid 8-9 yrs old my dad listening to Pink Floyd. I remember when Dark Side of the Moon came out he bought the album and played it over and over..
My dad and I went to see "the wall" together in 1980. I was 16. Very cool to hang out with my dad at a Pink Floyd concert..
This is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs..🙂
Even though I paid a lot of money to see this band live in the early 80s I would have paid a thousand times more than I did because they are just so great
That's Dick Parry on sax. He's all over side 2 of "Dark Side of the Moon" as well. He has a solo on the song "Money" which the song you we're probably thinking of. Not an official member of the group but is featured prominently on some of their most memorable songs. He also toured with the band, as well as Gilmore solo tours. That's him on the legendary Pulse tour.
Dude, I've been listing with you to music this evening and man, you have this amasement and respect for good music. It's a joy to watch you discover new music
Masterpiece ❤❤❤😍😍😍😍
The Revolution is NOW!
You really MUST watch these guys live. They are great in the studio. They are gods on stage! One hundred time better!
YES! Parts 6-9 are just as good as well, this reaction made my day :)
I can't believe no one asked you to react to Echoes by Pink Floyd yet. It's the song that'll convert you.
I am a Pink Floyd fan of many years and I love the fact you and others are discovering their music xx
I first heard that drop as a teenager, I’m now in my 50s and it’s still a killer drop. Wish you were here is the perfect pink floyd album. Every song is a masterpiece and I’ll never tire of listening to it.
Even though I appreciate all music I'm grateful for what I enjoyed in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's, it's been a privilege to have been to so many concerts in LA. Hearing this live was the ultimate experience. Thanks for the memories ❤️
We used to refer to that “everything coming together” as “organic playing” like the Grateful Dead or Floyd, where the musicians are completely in tune with each other & what they’re playing.
The way the vocals come in so subtly at the beginning..... genius.
Watching you react almost enables me to feel like I'm listening to it again for the first time. Chills in my spine. Thank you
Floyd...my 2nd favorite band!! You're thinking...how did I miss all this awesome music lol!! I'm 60...now you know what we were all doing in the 70s 😂 Please do the album Dark Side Of The Moon by them.
Pink Floyd is the definition of Star Gazing and Soul Searching☮️☯️
Now do the second part of this song.
I'm sure you know by now that Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are the two best bands to ever hit the musical scene. If not, wait until your alot older and dig back through the years of music and then make your decision.
The beatles men, you forget the beatles, my god.
Don't forget about Black Sabbath.
Beatles still considered greatest ever.
I agree. Floyd and Zep were kings.
Two great choices, but ignoring the Stones? If they'd never done anything but Sympathy for the Devil, they'd deserve to be on the list.
@jayveetv It is such a delight to watch you and see someone learning and appreciating my favorite artists from the 60s 70s & 80s. Pink Floyd is chief among them. I've actually worn out a Dark Side of the Moon and a Wish You Were Here vinyl albums.
Yes, please do the second part....especially since you finally figured out how to listen to PF near the end, LOL. ‘I gotta sit back and take this in!’ Good for you !
Rumour has it that GOD invented Sundays so She could sit in a dark room and just Listen to Pink Floyd.
This song is even more intense if you know that it's about their former lead singer (he had to leave the band) who had mental problems and struggled with drugs (you can see him at the beginning in the moon). It's about how people can change until they are not themselves anymore
This song, it changed so much. Pink Floyd is a forever sound.
You shoulve do full version of this, second half of the song is so damn sick, as so is this one. React parts 6 to 9 please!
You MUST watch a live version of this song and watch guitarist David Gilmore perform.... amazing guitarist...one of the best ever.
Got to see this live my dream came true during their 94 world tour best ever
Division Bell tour 94 Wembley! I spent my childhood listening to this band all thanks to my brother who went to vietnam & returned a different man/brother 😩 I promised myself as an adult that I would see them live given the chance....got it 1994
I also saw them in '94. About halfway through the concert, which was at an outdoor venue, it started pouring rain so bad they had to stop the concert! I have seen them 3 times, raining every time, but '94 was the worst.
Pink Floyd offered and made serious change for this world. Their concerts are a true experience. They will always shine. No matter what.
I’m having this played at my funeral. Greatest song of all time.
Of course many were tripping to it👍💖
They stored their equipment in a building in the next street to where I lived. Blocked the road with there truck and equipment. I didn’t know who they were and never met them. On another brick in the wall the kids singing are from my son school (Islington green). He is still upset that he wasn’t one of the kids. Memories.
The guitar really weeps in this track.
This song was about the tragedy that befell their dear friend & co-founder, Sid Barrett. 💔🌺
Play part 2! this was part 1 which is listed as parts 1-5 on the album, parts 6-9 is sometimes called part 2, don't miss out!
Please react to Pink Floyd -- Dogs
It's 17 minutes song, but it's pure masterpiece. With lyrics of course
You got your Blues in my Psychedelics! No, you got your Psychedelics in my Blues! Blues and Psychedelics. Two great tastes that taste great together. (I’ll show myself out. 😎)
Cheers. 😊
So relating!
Glad you liked it. The full Wish you were here album is 45 minutes of non stop music, opening with Shine on (part one) - this one- and 3 more tracks before Shine on (part 2). Some have tried to put together the 25 minutes of both Shine on back to back, so at least, you get the opening and the finale. But in between, nothing is to be eluded from the continuity of Wish you were here. And yes, it's a sax, not a trumpet.
I love your appreciation for this older rock music. I grew up to this ...this was the music that was current in my impressionable years. Floyd is a great 'experience '. I hope I get to see Gilmour before my time or his time is up. Its on my bucket list!!!
I enjoy watching you ☺
Heard Pink Floyd play this during their "In The Flesh" tour at Stafford Bingley Hall on 29th March 1977 (I've still got my concert ticket).
A bit maudlin, but I decided then and there that this music would be played at my funeral.
My dad tells me frequently, "remember, I want SOYCD and Wish you Were Here at my funeral!" And I'm having it written in my will that Comfortably Numb must be played 😂
Couldn't of composed a better song for a dear friend. Absolute genious.
Best reaction ever. You felt it!!
That is a Tenor Saxophone payed by Dick Parry, he plays on a few songs and tours with them . I have seen them every tour since 1970. Pink Floyd is
Eternal.
Best concert EVER!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE FIND OUT ABOUT THESE EPIC SONGS OMFG
Best concert of my life Pink Floyd opened for The Rolling Stones in Cleveland, Ohio!!!!
No words!!!!
Every concert begins with this song playing full tilt throughout the arena as they let us in. It begins a mass hysteria that is only satisfied when they come on stage. You can hear it from a mile away, and all of us crazy kooky fans are clamoring. Puff and pass. I was lucky enough to work for concert security in Dallas and I was PAID to see every show every time they came to town. David Gilmour is king. They rocked my world in the late 80's and still do. My kids grew up not listening to lullabies. I sang Pink Floyd songs to them. Now they sing them to my grand babies.
New subscriber... thanks for covering the greats (incl. Queen). Music is a journey through time. These fellas were there right through the 60s & 70s and the 'free love' movement. You can appreciate the psychedelic influence in the music which was just introduced to the west. Magnifico!
The live Pulse version of this is good. The saxophonist (not a trumpet) has two saxophones on his chest, the first one is much more a Bass sound, and he flawlessly switches between the two of them.
remember seeing them in 1989 awesome. still have the concert tshirt
I got this album the year it came out with money I got cutting grass . It was a different time music was real
At times, such as in "Shine On," Pink Floyd's music may be best described as "Rock n Roll meets Jazz." And, you're right. The best way to listen to it is to sit back, close your eyes, and let the music carry you away.
My friends and I in highschool would play this and "Wish you here" after we lost different friends during that time.....after the funeral....we would all get together, have one of the cars playing it on the tape deck and lay on the ground and just look at the sky together...each one saying our own silent goodbyes.
We all said what you are saying back 45 years ago ...welcome to the machine......glad to have you aboard.
Pink Floyd Simply the best music ever put out, I have loved and listened to their music for 45 years now. There is more to this song and you should give it a listen next...♡
Pink Floyd Echoes !!!
Jimi Jimi
Yep! Pompeii live. The last 5 minute groove is unforgettable.
If you enjoyed this studio version, you will really like the version on the “Pulse” Concert DVD. The sax player is David Parry, long time studio and in concert player for Pink Floyd.
I`ve been down that road thousands of times and it always feels new to me.
Hey Jay 😆 I've been having problems with WiFi, so glad I got it sorted to watch you experience a bit of Floyd ❤💛💚
Shivers up the back still after all these years, peace and love.
Tenor Saxophone and Alto Saxophone sound amazing with Pink Floyd music.
Syd Barrett wrote and sung their first hits and most off their debut-album. He was the Crazy Diamond. R.I.P. Syd.
Pink Floyd got me through university. 20 years later and it’s now getting me through my career, kids, mortgages etc. I’m sure in another 20 years it will be getting me through retirement. Quite simply the greatest band that has ever existed
3:02 That key change is a thing of beauty.
Some others have commented on the story of this song and what they're saying is correct. Syd Barrett had been a genius-level singer, guitarist and songwriter who ended up getting hooked on acid. He basically went on an acid trip and never came back from it. While Pink Floyd was recording their second album, Syd got so out of control that the group had no choice but remove him from the band, even though he had founded it. He became a recluse and nobody saw him for years. This song was written in his honor and if you listen to the lyrics, you can literally hear the heartbreak in the words. What is REALLY amazing is the day they were recording this, Syd showed up at the studio unannounced!! Nobody had seen him in a long time and they didn't recognize him at first, he had changed so much. He hung around with them for a while, then left. The story I've heard is that none of them ever saw him again after that. He died a few years ago. One of the true tragic stories of rock and drugs, and the waste of a truly great talent. For most of their career after this, this song always opened their concerts.
I wish I could hear these songs for the first time again
Please do more Pink Floyd try the second half of Shine On You Crazy Diamond parts 6 through 9
As others have already mentioned here the song is about founding member Syd Barrett. He took LSD and suffered a bad trip. The same happened to the founding member of Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green, who like Barrett was very talented and inspirational. A sad case of what if? Or, if only they hadn't taken it.
