In my opinion this is pink floyds best track and best album it’s a masterpiece.
I agree however the Next track is GUARANTEED to BLOW YOUR MINDS...!!! 'Welcome to the (Pink Floyd) Machine'..!!!
It's the transitions for me on this album❤️ plus the solo/closing verse/funk bit in parts 6-9 but 1-5 slightly edges it..
Agreed.
Wish You Were Hear slightly edges Dark Side Of The Moon as their best album.
Me sería difícil escoger, son tan buenos.
I have a deep love for “Animals” album. Feel like people forget about it a lot.
Absolute certified masterpiece. Their best, IMO. This song is a tribute to their former childhood friend and bandmate, Syd Barrett, who was an original and influential member. He suffered a mental break, (at times) profound mental illness and was institutionalized for periods of time. Their love for their missing brother is evident in the lyrics. They dedicated a lot of their material to him. The video and live versions (Pulse concert) are amazing.✌
Syd was Happy, to be away from it all. David made sure he was financially cared for. I have spoken to his friends & nephew. Backup singers, sax were all Syds ideas. xx
If you read about Syd Barrett, their dear friend, who started Pink Floyd with Roger Waters (base player and major lyricist) and Syd was charismatic and brilliant but he began to literally lose his mind and became unreliable so they replaced him with the guitar god David Gilmour........this is their homage to Syd.........re-listen knowing this info and the lyrics will make total sense........it is an lyrical undertone to a lot of their music a is Roger's childhood with an overprotective mother after the loss of his father in the war......Losing Syd was traumatic to all of them as they were close friends. Interesting fact: When they were recording this, having not seen Syd or knew where he was..........he showed up at the studio out of the blue....it's a truly trgic story.
Oh wow… 🙏
Pink Floyd was a psychedelic band originally and Sid it is said would be off his face and he would gradually loosen the strings on his guitar until it was unplayeable
It should be said, as a cautionary tale, that Syd Barrett, a budding rock star, was surrounded with “hangers on” as they say in Britain, who supplied drugs to Syd and the thought is that he lost his mind taking too much LSD and lost the ability to perform or write any more music.
Syd liked LSD too much. However, that wasn’t the cause of his psychotic break. Allegedly, he had Schizophrenia. It seems clearly that is what happened. So tragic but what a genius.
@@drhust1955 I think the PF members felt his loss in a very deep way.........that's why I love the lyrics so much they saw his genius slip away right in front of their eyes and were helpless to stop it. He was always the ghostly member of PF.
"You make it how you make it" - My man, that is a perfect way to describe a big part of what makes Pink Floyd so unique, especially with their longer instrumental pieces. They take you on a trip - that trip is guided by the band's intent and feelings when they wrote the song, but it's always your own unique trip, because of what you bring with you. Another great reaction, peace and love from Canada!
Well said. You could also say instrumentally, they take you on a loosely guided tour, where you find your own path and destination.
One can NEVER get tired of listening to Pink Floyd.
At their 1994 Pulse Concert, they play "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and it's one of their best performances of this song, imo.
about 20 years ago we were on vacation in Amsterdam. Found Pink Floyd Coffeeshop (later Umma Gumma) and went in for a short stop. They started playing the Pulse Live Concert DVD on a screen there... The entire concert was incredible. best concert experience I ever had not actually being at the concert myself...
Yes! I agree!
hope to c a reaction for that one!
Don’t forget Comfortably Numb!
i was there and it was brilliant
First song they play.
There is no other band that brings tears to my eyes more often than Pink Floyd!
This song is a testament to Pink Floyd’s vast array of musical and lyrical skills.
You got it right Reclezz, that's how PF hits you. It's an experience.
Facts!!
Most of their songs continue into the next song. That's why people need to listen to the whole album to appreciate their master pieces!
That’s also what makes Pink Floyd different from other bands: they don’t write songs, they write albums.
@@kgunitkeese17 i mean tbh a lot of bands have done that
@@seventrue871 I was referring more to Pink Floyd isn’t the typical band that compiles a bunch of songs together and then put it as an album. They write stories and make it into a theme. Like an opera. They are one of the best known rock opera bands.
Masterpiece. Just sit, listen and relax to this awesome song
The rumbling and throbbing at the end is the transition into the next track Welcome to the Machine. That is another outstanding song and we’ll worth a listen.
You should watch the documentary for wish you were here! so much insight into to this band. In my opinion the greatest band in history!
David's playing is always so damn sweet. Hats off to your channel. Great job folks.
His guitar is telling a story and it’s beautiful man. Beautiful man
This music saved my Life several times as a child when having hard Times with my mother
When you realize that Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Sheep and Dogs were composed and polished in the same 2yr tour, arguably the three best compositions the band ever made, you can't be blamed for being envious of those who got to experience that tour.
Great reaction, looking forward to you getting to the Pink Floyd's 'Animals' album.
This song, and the whole "Wish You Were Here" album, is about Pink the bands good friend and bandmate Syd Barrett. He was one of the founding members of Pink Floyd in 1964, but he was forced to leave the band by the end of 1967, due to massive use of mind-altering drugs like LSD and others. He was also showing signs of schizophrenia.
Syd's good friend, David Gilmour replaced him as the guitarist and lead singer of Pink Floyd in 1968.
Syd Barrett is the "Diamond" they're referring to in this song. Also, they have made numerous mentions of Syd in many of their songs. Shout out to Pink Floyd for paying Syd Barrett his full share of Pink Floyds proceeds, (which is millions and millions of $), for the rest of his life, which ended in 2006.
another reactor made a similar point about how their music effects you so personally : that loooong intro was taking him on this journey in his mind through memories of his life & then the first lyrics come in "remember when you were young"
I love watching the way listening to brilliant music actually teaches you to appreciate and understand music with each new song. I have watched so many young reactors start listening as almost a novelty and seeing the transformation to true music students. The world is starting to wake up out of being force feed formulated hollow music.❤❤❤The soul wants truth, the heart wants passion. Reject the establishment and truly feel alive.🤘
Look on RUclips at METAL GIRLS REACT TO PINK FLOYD
This is the brilliance of letting young people tell their thoughts and what their minds see. There is still hope for humanity if only there were more people like you two.
I don't think there's a better song to listen to in the dark on a chill night. It's a rollercoaster of a song and you're right, this song gets you to a place past chill and it becomes personal. As hippie as it sounds for me to say, you become one with this fucking song. It's one of rocks greatest masterpieces. It's structured in a genius way.
(S)hine On
(Y)ou Crazy
(D)iamond
Next on the Floyd list you should do “Time”. I swear it’s so deep you’ll feel nostalgic over nothing, and dread for what’s to come
Pink Floyd es la mejor banda sonora de la historia de la música y el Rock sin ninguna duda ☮️♥️🙏🇦🇷✌️
The best way to listen to this song is in a dark room maybe with a candle. And your eyes closed deep slow breathing and it will take you to dimensions in your mind that you didn't know you had.. It's a natural high most Pink Floyd songs are that. They were known as one of the most psychedelic bands of that time. ♥️♥️♥️
When the sax fades at the end, I always saw it as a great musical representation of Syd moving on. It literally sounds like the guy playing just started playing his own thing and wandered away from the recording equipment and on down the road.
David Gilmour has a different style in the way he plays. his licks are signature.🔥🔥
He doesn't play many notes. But he just plays the right ones.
Growing up with Pink Floyd was experiencing LIFE as you listened. Things you were doing. Things you saw both with your eyes & with your Mind's eye. Times you had. Rainy days when certain songs were playing. Us & Them reminds me of Christmas because of memory listening to that song. This album reminds me of Sub School in the Navy. It had just come out & was brand new. A summer day is Dogs. This song driving down a country road with pine bows weighted down with fresh snow & pure white is everywhere. Brightly sun lit. You guys have to get out & live & take the music with you. I walked around an island listening to this through a Walkman. Another memory flashing in my mind. I have done a lot of artwork listening to Pink Floyd also. Echoes specifically.
Have been listening to the whole album (Wish You Were Here) which this is from, for the past six days. Last week I lost a very good friend I've known from my school days and it just seems to fit.
This album & Dark Side are arguably their best.
So glad to see yet another generation enjoying the Floyd! Your smiles when you both experience their music really lifts the spirits!
now you gotta do parts 6-9.
You are right. You get to chose your own beautiful adventure. Have a Cigar is another one to check out.
This is only half of the whole composition (9 parts total), there's a "Part VI-IX" that IMO is even better. This whole album ("Wish You Were Here") is a Prog Rock masterpiece. It opens with what you just listened to, then "Welcome to the Machine", "Have a Cigar", "Wish You Were Here", and closes out with "Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Part VI-IX)".
Must be played 1-9
since the album came out in my youth until this day, it has been my meditation music. Your mind has no choice but to flow into another state of being listening to Pink Floyd
This / Floyd always takes me to a place of being "Nostalgic" going through beautiful memories of my life!!!!! 💕💕💕
Im lovin you lovin Floyd!! Im 63 years old,, and after Junior High I would go home into my room, put my 8-track in of Floyd, put on my headphones blasting, close my eyes and just listen and relax!!! Loved it, my time 🙃
When I saw you I commented and listened to your first time Pink Floyd, I thought you didn't understand the music, the band !reacted just to react !but now I think you understand and love it.
"The band is just fantastic that is really what I think, oh by the way which one's pink" keep on rocking. 🎸🎼
Syd was Pink. For a while...
Pink Floyd would best be described as a mood. They’re a type of band that doesn’t write songs and then put it on an album. They’re a band that writes albums. A band that you sit back with good headphones and enjoy the ride.
Great song! Pink Floyd always makes me think of a blues type of sound more so than rock. Anyway pure art it is.
Recklezz you nailed it. When you listen to Floyd it's you own personal journey
Your own thoughts, your own resolution.
Not only does Pink Floyd make you drift mentally, but it often is a different place every time you listen to the song. Or can be.
They knew Syd since they were kids in Cambridge, so the emotion is heartfelt....
Was waiting for this one🤩.
I love just playing along to a backing track version of this song, its so wonderful to improvise to, and the amount of different ideas you can employ thanks to the different flavors of the soundscape only makes it better.
Literally could play this song for hours non-stop... and have
One aspect that a lot of people don't know about this particular track is the phenomenal work done in the studio on the original recording tapes.
On your video, at 5:19, when the drums come in, did you notice that the reverb (echo) precedes the drum hits and the guitar chords?
Normally the reverb follows, but here it also precedes the chords. This effect may seem simple to achieve with digital technology, but with magnetic tapes it was much more complicated. To achieve this, they played the magnetic tapes in reverse, then added the desired effects on another tape and finally remixed the two tapes.
There was a BBC documentary outlining the studio work done on this and other tracks, but RUclips pulled it following a complaint from Steve Levine.
The name of the documentary was: (Pink Floyd - Multi-Track Song Analysis - BBC The Record Producers).
I saw this documentary a few months ago, before it was taken down by RUclips.
What you say about the reverse echo is absolutely true. You could hear the original tracks without the effects, which differs greatly from the final result on the album.
My favorite part of the documentary was the one about (The Great Gig in the Sky).
You could hear excerpts from NASA astronaut communications recordings, which were originally to accompany Richard Wright's keyboard.
It also featured the 2 1/2 takes of Clare Torry's vocals, without the added effects, used to produce the final product we're used to listening to.
Try Nights In White Satin by the Moody Blues or Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Both great songs. The full album version is the best choice for Nights In White Satin.
The good old days, 1975, sitting in my basement, 17 years old and cranking this up on my $99 rack stereo with a little weed and a lot of beer, a bunch of us just literally stoned and stunned...it was a glorious time to be alive.
Awesome. Pink Floyd is just fantastic. 😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
ECHOES - Pink Floyd
I’m 65 -saw them when I was 16- it was the Lamb lies down on Broadway concert in and around 74 In the Grand Rapids Michigan area- anyone else there? I realize it’s a needle in a cornfield…love listening with reactors
If you want another pink floyd song in the same realm, check out 'The Great Gig in The Sky'. HAUNTING! And the singing was all improvised.
Ha ha ha, you make me feel grateful is was born in 1960. The music of the 60s, 70s and 80s are the soundtrack of my life. my early years to adult. Lived it all, seen a lot of groups live,
You guys are cool and we woulda hung out then. Great channel. thanks
@Life With Recklezz. Love the reaction of you guys. I believe this is the longest introduction to a song in rock history at over seven minutes.
I have been a Pink Floyd now for more than 40 yrs, they are my favorite band by far. It is a band everyone should listen to on this journey call like. There is so much meaning behind what you just hear. They are a life experience band.
It’s great to watch your reactions, and so glad you both are journeying down the Pink Floyd rabbit hole …the deeper you go the better it gets ….
I grew up listening and going to Pink Floyd concert. Yes you make Pink Floyd word and music what you want; and every time you hear it, your view will never be the same. High or tripping Floyd's the way to go.
OMG. I appreciate that it's nigh on impossible here but this album, together with Dark Side of The Moon, is an absolute masterpiece and each needs to be listened to from start to end. I bought these albums when first released in 1975 and 1973, respectively. I was in my late teens and have never tired of listening to them. The 70s and 80s especially, produced a broad and masterful legacy of music that will live on forever as successive generations come to appreciate what seems no longer to be produced by current groups. I appreciate this more the older I get but oh those teenage days in and around London. What an absolute hoot we had!
Me too, i believe they will enjoy this one
I set my screen saver on .....Flying thru space, with millions of stars rizzing by. And playing this cut. What a perfect mesmerizing scene it was!!!!! Great reaction!
This song is such an immersive experience; one of those that’s a headphones must with eyes closed, no one around ❤️
Gotta do The Great Gig in the Sky. Make sure it’s a studio version, which is not something I normally say.
Ah the amount of times i drifted off to sleep to this and entered into a kaleidoscope of dreams, music that speaks to the soul indeed!
There's good music, then there's masterpieces, and finally there's the Olympus with the best of the best of masterpieces. For me this one from this track you have to lean out well to be able to see the Olympus. It is so and so deeply human that it doesn't feel that way.
Your assessment was spot on. We all make the music what it is in our own minds. Which is why I don't watch music videos much, because they rarely match the painting in my own mind.
Pink Floyd Echoes 72 live at pompeii just to watch them play live
Radiohead Street Spirit
Gorillaz Stylo
Roxy Music Out of the Blue
Floyd is transcendent and is deeper than any music ever made. This music is amazing and has more depth than anything before or after. I hope it isn't over, and new musicians aren't afraid to delve this deep again...I believe will. Those are real drums, real horns, that is a real guitar, that is singing without autotune...brilliant. btw Time by them is extraordinary good and will change your life.
Man...Pink Floyd is a feeling..Awesome job.
Sheer genius - will still be listened to in a 1000 years and be up there with the classicals in its own right.
A masterpiece of music. Shine on Syd you crazy diamond 💗
This is the first song they played at their Pulse Concert...no easy song to warm up with, get in a flow...no, they went right in to this masterpiece...definitely worth checking out
This is a great song that opens up the album Wish You Were Here, which so many have already pointed out is about Syd Barrett, a founding member of Pink Floyd. It's mellow, and it speaks. And I appreciate how you say that it speaks to a person wherever they're at. It has its own focus, yes, telling Syd, the "crazy diamond," to shine on. But it's not chained up, and it doesn't chain the listener either. It allows listeners to make of it what they may. I'll echo the others here who suggest listening to the second half of the song (parts 6-9), which closes out the album. I think you've already reacted to songs on this album already, so it may be a bit late for a whole album reaction, but that's no big deal (you can do that anytime you want). Thanks again for what you do!
You can’t get better than this man! I’m in awe!
One of the purest expressions of PF genius.
We all interpret what we feel from the music. It means something different to everyone. Don’t worry about not being able to come up with elegant words. The important thing is that it makes you feel something and that’s the point of music.
Pink Floyd is your emotions put to music!
4:57 Listen to "The Dark Side Of The Moon" in it' entirety. It's pretty much a 40 minute continuous album. They were true magicians not just musicians 👏Awesome reaction!
It would be epic to see you do the full album on Patreon or a 3 Part RUclips video. Might as well do both lol 🙌
You were having a hard time finding the right words but you actually put it perfectly. The music is so lush, layered and perfect you just lose yourself and find
your own, personal "meaning" ini it. I'm 62 and I've loved Floyd since before I was your age but I'm not one of those stunted old goats that bray on about how
crappy "today's music" is. I love today's music, edm, hiphop, pop, I'm down for it. It gives me a lot of pleasure though seeing young people discover,
feel and understand Pink Floyd. Great reaction by both of you!
I never would have thought that sitting on my couch, watching a couple listen to music would be entertaining, but somehow it is. It's my favorite way to listen to music now .... thank you Internet ......
"You cried for the moon" is my favorite part. You should check out "Childhood's End". Instrumentally it's not as powerful but the lyrics are on point.
It's cool. None of us had words the first listen of this groups songs.
Pink Floyd transcends time and space.
Music that will live on forever. Enjoyed ur reaction.
My favorite PF album. Came out my sophomore year of college.
Now you need to keep going track by track in order. This album as well as Animals are meant to be heard from start to finish no pausing. Both masterpieces, my 2 fav P.Floyd albums.
Cool, Recklezz kids -- y'all got some patience for this... (yep - as said by others, it's all about Syd -- as have been many - including songs on Dark Side of the Moon, and especially the song "Wish you were here)" -- I really like your reactions.. and look forward to more .. thank you!
If y’all wanna see this live check out their 1994 Pulse Concert version. It’s unreal. The 13:25 length one by the official Pink Floyd channel.
Fun to see you digging this one that i listen to a lot back in the 70`s 😎😈
Poetry plus Art plus Genius=Beauty
Musical excellence. True genius. Feel it
With Pink Floyd you have made a friend for life. Now you have a reference To measure other music by
A Must Parts 1 thru 9. I saw this live in Philly, No words can describe the Music & visuals. They had a Huge Diamond Center Stage, facets of light shine over the entire venue, All you could do was think of Syd Barrett for whom it was written, their founder & leader, who was lost. They never spoke or saw him again, after they recorded WISH YOU WERE HERE. SAD SAD STORY.
EVERY second of this is pure perfection
Be sure to check out each album in their entirety. With each album start with 1st track to the last track! Each album is a story. In order to grasp the context, the entire album is a must.Shine on you crazy diamond is a tribute song to a member of the band who has passed away. Of course we can listen to this song & apply to our life but knowing its about a person being the crazy diamond is cool.
Note: song keeps going because it goes into next track like a book or movie. So by picking a random song, your missing out.
It wasn't until years later that I was able to see all of the references to Syd and the early albums in these lyrics.
First time watching... it may already have been said... the handshake... real .. a stuntman on fire..
Think you wana say is that the music takes you on a journey in your own mind lol the Psychedelic dayz hehe
Great Gig in the sky is another to take you where you did not know was there to go
All of Floyds albums were designed to listen all the way through..........not stopping after tracks.
I'm lucky I grew up listen to this........
You floating man, you FLOATIN’!
Turn on some Floyd, sit back, close your eyes, and let the music take you on a journey. Love them!
