Imagine being in High School, driving around in the country, getting stoned and hearing this for the first time. It was the 70’s and we were the luckiest SOB’s on the planet. 😁❤️
Used to do the same with my best friend after school! Now I just sit at home & vape 💨👍🏼
Yes! ❤
We did. Lol getting stone and mushrooms. So many good times
Yeah but now you have Bieber
Not to mention digging through albums at the local Licorice Pizza. 🤩
David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist. He makes his guitar sing, no lyrics required.
imagine singing this at 73 years old...He's insane, he's an immortal genius
im 61 and i listened to this a million times in high school...its nice to see people hearing it for the first time this many years later...and really appreciating how great it is....
Pompeii, in southern Italy. The city was destroyed in 79 AD by a volcano (Vesuvius). (They did the original concert here in 1972), Their intro's are legendary.
Gilmour has it all....talent-wise, but he has that other special quality that puts him into that rare category of Rock God...that is, one can hear his soul in his guitar and voice in every single recording and performance. Same goes for Richard, Roger and Nick. Check out their earliest concert in Pompeii...no audience and it's a film, too. Stellar
Oh man, Echo's is electrifying !
Sir DAVID GILMOR- my man.
The studio version is the best tho.
And he was 70 years when he gave this concert. He is the best. I just hope he can do a last tour.
fun fact. His wife bought that guitar strap for his birthday...none other than Jimi Hendrix own strap!!!
Hella gift
Fun fact that guitar sold for 4 million dollars at auction. Way more than any guitar ever sold.
WOW...so cool!!!
She better take care of that man!
@@JAYZIGGY5 Fun Fact David G gave the money from the auction of his guitar collection to environmental charities
@@darkpitcher5242 Over 25 million if I remember correctly. But the black strat was expected to go for near what Eric Claptons strat "blackie" went for. $959k which was a record at the time. Crazy. The owner of Indianapolis Colts now owns the black strat. I wonder if anyone plays it or is it behind glass or in a vault? What I wouldn't give to play that thing.
What a criminally underrated guitarist and vocalist David Gilmore has always been. The structure of his leads are impeccable, and not just in this song either.
David Gilmour is definitely not underrated. He's almost universally adored by fans and musicians alike.
Gilmour is not underrated, he's very much considered the greatest living guitarist now, (which he is), ask any other guitarists
@@m.ericwatson968 it depends on how you define "greatest" I absolutely love David Gilmour, and he's definitely in my top 5 guitar players but I wouldn't necessarily say he's the greatest living guitar player. Tone, heart, feel and emotion? Absolutely. Technical ability I would have to say it's a toss up between Steve Vai, Joe Satrianiand Yngwie Malmsteen.
Underrated?
I’ll take tone, heart, feel & emotion over technical every day of the week…
The intro to this song is hauntingly beautiful. It's calming; it's mysterious; it touches the soul. I could listen to it all day. ❤❤❤❤❤
Every bend Gilmour does is PERFECT! He is never flat or sharp on his bend, but hits the correct note PERFECTLY EVERY TIME! Mind blown,
Life without David Gilmour would be unthinkable for me.
It ' s thinkable, but it would be a worthless life.
@@rafaelnuncatiempo353 lol that's what I meant,I was being dramatic 😁
Exactly
Agreed. This guys music helped me through the worst time of my life.
The band's name is a combination of the last names of two African American blues musicians, Floyd Council and Pink Anderson
Wow awesome fact!
This how they started this concert, no easy song to warm up with...find their stride, nope dove right in to it with their one of many masterpieces !!
Must say though, imo...if you like live performances, watch any and all performances from their "Pulse" concert..it is Pink Floyd live at their optimal best
Pulse......yes.
I watched two of them live in '94, the Rain out one at Rice stadium in Houston then in May at the Superdome in New Orleans.
I loved seeing/hearing them live in concert here in the Netherlands in Rotterdam. Amazing concert
This was the first public performance at the amphitheater in Pompeii since 79AD! Pink Floyd did a concert film there in 72 but no public audience.
This is such as great performance in Pompeii. Try to catch the same song, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, from the Pulse Concert as well if you get a chance.
This was the first song i heard from PF , i was 15 ... stoned and my Soul instant exploded in coulors i've never expected to feel . Still today there's a Tear in my Eye
Keith Richards said years ago that one of the most important elements of playing is how to use (or not use) the empty space between the notes played. No band uses those pauses between notes better than Pink Floyd. Great song.
And more, you are always waiting for the next note, delicious frustration
There are no real words to say...your heart and soul feel this song...NOTHING will ever compare❤
Like a great wine David Gilmore's playing just gets better with age!
David Gilmore was 70 years old at that concert, he is now 76 years old.
Nobody gives the same vibes as Pink Floyd. I’d listen to this even it was just an instrumental song. But add in Gilmour’s mesmerizing voice and it’s beyond perfection ❤️🔥
I always love when I see people enjoying ANYTHING, it reminds me that life offers moments of joy. I am especially delighted when music is involved. When that joy crosses generations, continents and racial identity I dare to hope we widely wish for more joy for ourselves and for others. Syd Barrett unfortunately did not seem to experience his appropriate share. I have regarded this tribute as remarkable but also bitter-sweet.
how can anybody not enjoy this
This man in his 70s now still never misses a note! Been listening to him and Floyd since they started. Truly legendary! Unbelievable concerts!
Gilmour is a Very Talented..GENIUS.
I saw them at the Oakland Coliseum in 1988 when I was 18. The show was absolutely mind blowing. I will never again experience a show that comes close to what they put on.
Dude, personally I do appreciate the time you take educating yourself on the life and times of the people back in the 60's and 70's by listening to the messages in the lyrics of the music. By the way,I'm 60 years old.
RIP Sid
You sHould also ReaCto Echoes ...........also filmed in Pompei..........you will see them when they were young; it is just brilliant...........every single person in this city died when a volcano erupted 2000 years ago............you will see some of the residual if you react to Echoes video........amazing. Shine On is a very personal song about Syd Darrett who was a founding member of Pink Floyd and had to leave the band due to mental illness and drug use..........he was a major talent and close friend and it was always a sadness and regret; when Syd left, David came in.
João Mello is the sax player. Gilmour discovered him playing at markets in the streets of London and small venues. Originally from Brazil and is only in his early 20's at this time.
"One of These Days" and "High Hopes" are great tunes from the Pulse concert.
I'm 57 and the first time I heard "Shine on, Wish You were here and Run" back in the day, destroyed Me and turned something on I didn't know was there. And I thought I knew it all.
That guitar sold for 4 million at an auction, David gave the money to a charity . He sold 120 + guitars for 25 million all given to a charity fighting global warming called Client:Earth
Dopest spots....check out Live at Pompeii. They play in a Roman amphitheater, just them and their crew in the 1960s. It's beyond great.
The bass is iincredible ❤
You will love David Gilmore
I love seeing your reactions to all this great music you've discovering.
I love this and "Wish you were here". I wish I was THERE!! So much better live like this
Glad to see someone reaction to Dave outside of the Floyd. His solo work stand by it's self, even playing some Floyd songs. This is his last concert , selling 120 guitars ( including "the Black Strat" that sold for $3.9 million without his Jimi Hendrix guitar strap.) Concert " in any tongue" "run like hell" last time playing "comfortably numb" ( 126 million views). Another must watch " live at Gdansk" (100,000 people) last concert with Rick Wright ( keyboard, 50 yrs playing and writing together) " on an island"* "the blue"" great day for freedom" " take a breathe'******. sit back and enjoy the greatest guitarist. any song on these last 2 concerts of Dave I'll be watching. You haven't seen anything yet.
AHHHHHH.....Pink Floyd....my heart and soul!! Love Gilmour!
In his 70s and David Gilmour can still play and sing this well. I do miss the little old horn player from Pulse though.
There was NO OTHER GROUP who could convey EMOTION the way Pink Floyd could...and Roger Waters, in particular. He becomes one with the emotions of those in the audience and his guitar is the intermediary. NO ONE ELSE can do it the way Roger does it.
Seeing and hearing Pink Floyd live in Seattle was one of the best concert experiences I've ever had and truly inspirational.
David Gilmore is legit bad ass when he picks up a guitar.
Just a great song, just think this song did not exist one day and then it did....thanks for this one, and have a great day...
This spontaneous song finder, is the goat of ,first timers ⏲️
Remember when you were young you shine like the sun
Pink Floyd live was epic. Seen the wall tour, unforgettable
Mr.Adogg Run Like Hell live from Pompeii,is mind blowing good I saw them live in Nashville, Tennessee it was a helluva show.Enjoy
I’ve always called David the Music Master.
...that smile of satisfaction.
Pompeii was a Roman city destroyed by a volcanic eruption in 79 AD. It is across the bay from Naples, Italy. t has been excavated for quite a while. It is kind of throwback for Floyd, because they did a film in the same ruins in the late '60s.
Love watching u. Enjoy!
So many of the 60-70 groups built on the foundations of gifted black, blues artists. We owe them a debt of gratitude.
Hey, just found your channel and i am lovin it already! Another song you can check out if you havent already, is "shambala" by three dog night. a forgotten classic...
Hypnotizing. They suck yo into their universe and then sing to you.
Check out echoes 1 and 2 in Pompeii. No crowd. Just them and some stage hands playing among ancient ruins. Or if you want something weird watch "One of these days" from the pulse concert.
"it's just one note! How does he cram all this feeling and meaning into it? It's just one note!"
The song is a memorial to Syd Barrett, founding member of Pink Floyd and musical genius, who burned out his sanity with LSD and other tasty treats.
Would be great Adogg if read a little about the background to some of these songs to get the FULL benefit of understanding.
I cannot find the correct RUclips link but Miles Davis also explored how differently one note can be played. These musicians who find complexity in monotony are saying a very great deal more than a dot on a score.I believe this attitude is not constrained to music alone.
remember, this is over 50 years old. way ahead of its time.
@@raywomac7662 It's got better legs than most, but Bach and Mozart fans have to be laughing at 50 years. That said I've never tired of the album start to finish.
@@raywomac7662 ,,,or perhaps music of the current era is simply bland and lacks original ideas?
When I was a teen in the 70s, think about no social media, no internet no nothing and no way to interpret things. The only thing I had was a record player and PINk FLOYD! This band helped me through those tough years. Now in my 60s through hard economic times, crumbling marriage and health.David Guilmour guitar solos and Roger Waters poetry still speak to me and express what I feel. Indeed I've been Lucky all my life.
I’m here for it too youngster!! Thanks 🔥👵🏼☮️❤️🙏🏼
They mastered the synthesizer. This is one of their most intense songs.
I seen him in OHIO STATE STADIUM packed full Ground and Stadium 🏟️. COMFORTABLY NUMB LIVE Is his best SOLO 🎸. And it's still voted for the Top 10 solo's of all time. Best Concert ever 🤘🎶🎸
One of the most amazing concerts you'll ever experience.
David's voice is now old.....
His music and legacy will never ever get old!
Pink Floyd's music is a gift to all if we pause to listen with our soul.
My first Pink Floyd album was Animals. Fell in love with Floyd and still a huge fan since 1977.
Listen to the opening and closing of their album, “Dark Side Od The Moon.”
Gilmour is the cleanest guitarist ever!!
Dave Gilmore and Jimmy Hendrix used to be good friends, when Jimmy passed away his wife gave Dave Gilmore his guitar strap which he is wearing in this song and in Comfortably Numb in pompei.
Pink Floyd is so awesome! You're right about that intro...🔥. I know you've been checking out Rush too. You should check out their clip that is actually called "Rush, best intro ever!" 😊
One of my all time favorite bands to see live. But I think one of my favorite song is " Wish you were here "
Tribute to Sid Barrett..beautiful!!!
EVERY THING Pink Floyd does is amazing. Its an experience like no other... I hate you missed the Laser light shows from my day.. MIND BLOWING!!!
Pulse album - Coming Back To Life
will damn near make you cry
Remember listening to this song at 4am in a bar in Amsterdams Red Light District drunk as a lord great times.
One of my very favorite besides Wish you were here
also listen to the same song from the studio album (wish you were here, 1975). even more impressive, i´d say, though floyd/gilmour live is a sensation in its own right.
Song was about Syd Barret. The original singer in the 60’s who went crazy.
R.I.P., Rick
You've got to also check out the live video for the Pink Floyd song; "Run Like Hell"
I am glad your digging it A Dog peace
This concert was in Pompeii.
I can't wait until you get to the Animals album. It's just amazing. 🌈💗
late to the party on this one. Not Pink Floyd but David solo at Pompeii . the only person to perform there twice since 79 AD. Keys Greg Phillinganes ( Michel Jackson music director) and Chuck Leavell from Allman brothers guitar Chester Kamen played Madonna. Duran,Duran McCartney, drums Steve Distanislao Crosby & Nash < Kenny Loggins , Joe Walsh, Joao Mello from Brazil got the job on a text playing the sax to this song. And Dave long time bass Guy Pratt
I was just waiting for them four notes ☺️👍
every note - clean.
Where we start by David Gilmour
Yes it's time to get back to when people had respected one another
The concert is held on the grounds of the city of Pompeii which was a city in Italy that in 79 AD was erased from existence by Mt Vesuvius, volcano. They did a movie about it a few years ago. Check it out.
React to 'Fat Old Sun' by David Gilmour at Royal Albert Hall. It's an awesome performance of an old Pink Floyd classic. The guitar solo at the end is phenomenal!!!
Yes! One of his very best guitar solos, and such an overlooked song. The solo on the song 'The Blue' from the same concert is also amazing.
@@Pulsar77 it is an overlooked song and I was happy to see David pull it out for that tour. He did an amazing job on it and that guitar at the end is one of his best solos!
I think the thing you like most about these older groups you've been listening to is no autotune. What you're hearing is being produced before your eyes.
Audio perfection, isn't it?! I like all sorts of music, but this is more than worthy of repeated listening. And yeah I've already subscribed. Glad you love it too d
The studio version will blow your mind my friend
Greatest guitarist ever
PF was the first concert I ever went to, 1977 at Anaheim Stadium. Still as good today as then.
I was 12 the first time I heard them in the 70's and I was hooked.
Time for Echoes live in Pompeii 🔥
If you haven't heard it, listen to David's song Sorrow on that same track "Live from Pompeii." OMG that song is epic. To me, Pink Floyd is nothing without David, the best guitarist ever, like Jimi Hendrix, the best ever!! I've been a huge fan since I was 7 yrs old...And 50 yrs later at 57, I'm still in awe of this man...He's a guitar god, a legend!!! His longest guitar solo, I believe, is from the song "Comfortably Numb" you should listen to that one, if you love his guitar playing you'll be blown away!!
Thank you my brother for doing this one as David Gilmour’s concert! You need to do On an Island, or Astronome Domini
The story behind the song is crazy..
