The “5 week plan” is one of the funniest watch related things I’ve seen. Nicely done.
You are very kind! How many watch reviewers can make y’giggle?!?!;)
I think he already got approval after four weeks though. It’s basically nag her to death until she gives in.
Was just on holiday in Amsterdam, found they have an official Seiko boutique. Managed to get that “well babe at home in London they don’t have a Seiko boutique, so maybe if we can go I can see that watch I like in the flesh and then maybe I won’t want it 👀” 😂😂😂
Your 5 week plan is so true. We watch nerds desperately need our wives approval before we work up the nerve to buy a new timepiece, it sort of validates the point of the purchase. My wife has given up saying anything when I start to drool in the window of our local friendly jewelers. She bought me one of the new seiko 5 divers for my 60th birthday last year and I really love it.
It's so refreshing to know it isn't just me going through all this to buy a watch, especially with the wife. That 5 week plan made me giggle also, good work 👍🏻😀
You are spot on with vid.. brilliant.
I wanna get a Tudor Pelagos for my next proper watch purchase..man!..I absolutely LOVE them watches.. I need one in my life ASAP..BUTT.;.I got My mountain bike I'm fixing up.. then the Ruins of My employment life.. that needs fixing up too.. lol.. so it has to take a back seat for a while unfortunately, But Yeah.. totally agree with the old "Make sure that the watch is 100% for You" before buying them.. made that mistake wayyyy too many times.
Mr M! Thanks for watching My friend! Good things come to those who wait!!!
I know I'm a bit late to the game here but this is brilliant. Clever, funny, and honest. You're awesome.
Hernan!!! You are very kind my friend! Welcome aboard!!!!
You always make watch stuff fun. Love this Russell.
Thank you so much!! Now I need your photography skills and I could take o er this niche!!!
Love the AMC Sweater 👍🏼great video
This video was pure gold. Great wisdom, on the point humour. I was in tears. Many thanks MWC.
Edward! Appreciate that a lot!
This is absolutely my favorite watch vid on RUclips! The advice on how to "handle" the wife was priceless! Haven't laughed this hard in quite a while. Thank you MWC.
You are a legend my friend I appreciate that massively! Makes the hours making it all the more worthwhile!!
Watch wisdom we all need to hear. Well done once again MWC. You’re a good dude.
Very kind PK thanks for the support!
Some amazing advice on offer here. I think we’ve all bought watches we regret 😂 Now hopefully other people won’t fall into the common traps us watch collectors fall into!
Absolutely loved this show MWC! Awesome work, as always 👏👏👏👏
Absolutely it’s part of the journey I guess Gareth!!! Thanks for the support as always!!
Regrets are inevitable, where they are ideally minimized. AT the end of the day, to like the watches one has.
My black bay 58 blue. been wearing for 5 months, love it.
Awesome!!!!
Lol love it!! I have bought a few watches online to my regret. Yes, agree, have a look at it in real life.
About impulse buying. I always make list of "wants" throughout the year. And during the end of the year in December I look at my list and ask myself if I still want it. If there is money left over I buy things of my list and gift it to me for Christmas.
It's funny every time at the end of the year, I look at my list and gasp on why I even put certain items on there. But hey, ya boy got a new Seiko watch and a Landyachtz longboard this year :)
Great work MWC - loved the sketch with Mrs MWC!!👏👏😂😂
Thank you my friend!!!
Absolutely superb show matey! the sketch with the wife had me rolling in the aisles! Brilliant! or should i say ..........SOOOPER!
Mal appreciate that alot thank you!
The 5 week guide is a masterpiece nailed it.
Thanks TB!! Hope you e been well! Appreciate the support on this one!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR all good taking a deep dive into micro brands :) i have a second hour Mandela 2 on the way.
Sometimes it can take longer than 5 weeks and you can be surprised at the end result.
Came across your channel. Unique and entertaining with excellent advice. Been collecting watches for few years. Just been on a buying spree. Bought the Frederique Constant Monolithic in blue. Lovely dress watch and interesting technology for $3850 from AD. Then bought Planet Ocean GMT from Jomashop for $5200 and just 2 weeks ago my AD called me regarding Tudor Reverse Panda Chronograph which I purchased for $5300. Love all 3 purchases and will be worn not just sitting collecting dust😁🤔😳
Superb….love your style
Thanks Jack!
Really cheered me up on a down day….thank you so much 🙏
I bought a bunch of more affordable, smaller watches to develop my taste, like the Casio Duro and Vostok Amphibia. Worked really well as I have gotten really good at knowing what I like now and what size is good.
Same here, but rapidly progressed to a Seamaster 300 Diver, realised Divers are for me!
You my friend are doing it the sane way!! Congratulations!!!!;)
if you cant try a watch on in person the best option is to buy it used and be familiar enough with the going rate that if you dont like it you can sell it on without taking much of a loss. Dont just buy the first one you see and pay too much. If that isnt possible buy a very similar homage an aliexpress so see how it looks on your wrist.
Brilliant, funny and uplifting video. Also very sound advice.
Thank you my friend! Exactly was I tried to deliver! Welcome aboard!!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR Thank you!
4:54 pure Gold!
Hope this guy has a stand up channel. Subscribed!
I try my friend!
You got a laugh out loud from me... which is very rare for me when watching TV/RUclips... your hilarious... lol
These are tips for the Christmas list, Russ. That CA53 that arrived this week was the point where I ran out of room. I need a display case like you before I can resume.
Congrats !! Try getting the approval of a cabinet because let me tell you that wasn’t easy!!!!!
I cant's stop laughing at the wife vs watch love relationship references where you care more about the watch than the person you are dating... 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Well done!!
LOL, great video. I have a six week program to get my wife’s approval… first five similar to yours, but on the sixth week I get a bottle of wine and spiced rum we get drunk watching a movie she picks and then I mention the watch again and I get a ‘for f@%k sake just order the dam if it’s going to shut you up!’
Hahahahahaha I absolutely love that Glynn!!!
Spiced Rum... works for us two as well 😂😂😂😂
Sound advice MWC! Can tell you had fun with this one. I'm the same with dress watches. Occasionally I see one that I really love the look of but when I only get 1 or 2 occasions a year where it'd suit the occasion it does throw a spanner in the works 😅
Always got more room for divers and other tool watches though 😉
Cheers James! I’m excactly the same!! Some of those cocktail times are sweet!! I know they would sit in the watch box and not get worn!!!!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR those are always the ones I think about when it comes to dress watches for me. Damn Seiko and their beautiful dials! 😂
@@The_OG_James I bought myself a Seiko Presage for my wedding anniversary and I wear it more than I thought I would. I wear it whenever I go out for a meal with a shirt/blazer; on the formal evening on the cruises we go on and also christenings and weddings. It feels special to put in on over all my divers and G Shocks.
You just can't beat a dive watch.
Awesome episode.
Thanks Matthew!
Hey you're one of the funniest youtubers I'm subscribed to 😂 and a watch related to top it up. You're amazing keep it up dude 😂
You are an absolute gent thank you so much my friend!
Thanks for the advises, man. I was planning on buying a dress watch but now I have to reconsider because I found the dial size might be too big for my wrist.
Love your videos mate, you have a fan from Malaysia now heheh I’m on an Apple Watch now and want to make my first “proper watch” purchase , was keen on the PRX automatic but I’m also thinking of the Seiko 5 or the Casi-oak… I’ll get to a decision soon and all thanks to your videos !!
One of the first things I did when the wife and I separated was buy the SRP777 Turtle reissue. I buy lots of watches second hand so if I like them I might buy a new one and if I don't... I usually sell them for what I paid or for a profit.
That has to be one of your best videos ever. Especially the wife part!!!
Maro you are an absolute gent!!!! Thank you!
Best watch buying advice video yet. Some aspects in it which other RUclipsrs do not mention. Very well done. 👍
You are very kind SS!!! Hope you are well!
Great video as usual Russ! I think at times the mistakes along the watch collecting journey helps build some character and narrow down our preferences 😅
The best video of yours I’ve seen. I’ve been through the five stages of wife persuasion too many times! Great work
great fun video with some serious points too ..ie don't overspend .. thanks mate
Lovely one Russell! Especially the wife part👏👌🏻😂
Cheers Keinan!
This is a classic video. So funny and entertaining 😂👍
Russ, brilliant as always, thanks 🎉👍
Thank you my friend!
Haha. Russ, your content is top notch. Very entertaining episode with lots of good points. RUclips should absolutely put this at the top of the list for how to buy the right watch!
Sure enough, solid advices!
Fortunately, my wife is pretty understanding and she even encouraged a few of my purchases! :)
That is a very good wife !;)
Nice one Russ, great advice. I bought my other half an engagement ring at the same time as getting my Tudor Pelagos 👍😊
See there’s a clever man!!! Cheers Dale!
You’ll be paying for that watch for years.
Awesome video. By the way, you're one of my favorite RUclipsrs to watch during my watch purchasing journey. Keep up the great work. 👍🏼
Well thought out video and love your analogies. Most of all, just a nice thoughtful video on whether you should pull the trigger on a watch!
What a CLASS of a video mate 👏👏👏
Top gent Franz thank you!
Brilliant video! That 5 week plan is definitely the way!
Cheers James!!
Great vid. Loved the "wife" part as we can totally relate!
Cheers my friend!
Perfect advice. Especially regarding trying them on. I bought a seiko Turtle a while ago. It arrived. It's a brick. It went on Chrono24 that same day!
Then recently I got my one and only brilliant watch. The IWC Mark XVI..... but I did the leg work by trying on the new Mark XX first, which is very similar in size..... and it paid off. For £2700, which is nearly half the price of the new XX , I'm in pilot watch heaven... also don't go with the hype of Rolex or whatever. Best thing to do is have a budget, and do your research...I tried on some amazing JLC ultra thins, and even a vintage gold Omega Constellation and a Blancpain dress watch (lovely vintage watch store near Berry's in York).... they were lovely and I really would get them all if I had the money! BUT at the same time tried on Rolex sub and Daytona display models ... heavy clunky and definitely not worth it (for me)...
I found Omega Globemaster and Seamaster too bulky and heavy too! But then I tried on a No Time to Die Seamaster which I really didn't like in photos.....BUT OH WOW! THIS WATCH IS A LIGHT STUNNING STUNNNEEER! Moral of this story is listen to the Mad watch guy here.... he speaks the truth 💙💙💙
This is superb my friend! I’m after a 38mm Spitfire from IWC! When they make that I’m in!!!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I've become a HUGE IWC fan my man. I never used to look at them but they are superb And I really like the lack of hype. Definitely a quality choice
You should try the Mark 16 honestly
Love your channel, I heard it say that wisdom is the Application of Intelligence, very good advice ,
Now I have a better workable plan for my future Seko landshark.
Very good points.
The most enthusiasts are livibg in a bubble. But the truth is: outside of these bubble nobody cares about watches.
So it's important not to waste money for a statussymbol without the status only in hope to impress anyone.
Do nott buy a 5 or 10 K Watch if you don't have allready a very high income and assets. Otherwise you wont be able to pay the repair and service costs of such a brand.
Depending on you age you should calculate your missing assets if you pay such a price.
5K now could be 30 to 40K if you would invest in instead in an ETF for your pension. So ask your self: "Can I give up on 30 to 40 K during my pensiom age?"
If not. Do not buy.
The golden rule is:
"If you can't buy twice....you can't buy once!"
Also see the money you are earning and saving not as your money, but as the money of your children. They will or could desperatly need it when they are in study, marriage or just for inherit if we pass away.
There so crazy good watches for affordable money. Enjoy them.
Oh My God that 5 week plan is the most common conversation in my house! Try collecting Trainers, RC Cars and Watches!
Awesome video dude! 😁👌
I’d love to get into trainers!!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR you definitely don't want to get into RC cars the watches are cheaper believe me!
🤣👍
Well worth the wait Russell. Excellent advice. Missus Mad's screen debut was captivating! Five stars! 😁❤
Now….bro….this is one of the funniest but realistic episode….man….the 5 weeks plan!!!!!😂😂😂yeah! That could alter depends on the “cost” of that “ last watch” also😅😅😅😅😅
Hahahaha thank you Jonathon!! Absolutely agree it depends on price! Under 100 bucks it does get to one week!;) I just get it!
This one made me laugh out loud, great stuff. Love your energy
Thank you Robert!! That was the plan hahahaha
This is fantastic🤣🤣 I have definitely made some dumb decisions in my very little time collecting but very inexpensive ones. I have yet to purchase a $500+ watch and honestly don’t plan on it anytime soon. My favorite purchases so far have been my seikos. Out of the 5 I have, my turtle is the best which I just purchased from Marc at longisland watch and it’s perfect!
Jack it sounds like you are a careful collector who likes to take his time buying his watches even though you said you’ve made some bad mistakes! All part of the journey I guess!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR I wouldn’t say careful but obsessive😂 If I wasn’t married I probably would’ve been buying watches wayyy to often.
Fantastic show Russ, everything you mentioned rings true, that damm rabbit hole, will the itch ever get scratched
Cheers Russell! It’s never ending!
A very informative, helpful and fun buying guide Russ! I had a few Lol moments along the video ...cheers bro! 👍
Haha! That was a brilliant show and love your style. Nice to be able to have a laugh about this crazy hobby of ours. Cheers! 🙏
great advice.
The best advice here is "before buying a watch ask yourself if you are going to wear it"
That is true. if you are a tennis coach or work in construction maybe buying several dress watches is a bad idea.a G-shock or Seiko would be a better choice .
on the opposite buying 5 g-shocks but you work in an office with a professional environent that requires a suit and a tie may not be the best option neither as it will make you look tacky.
My personal advice that cost me tons of money is consider the watches weight . some watches look great but I for one dislike heavy watches on my wrist. I got an Alpina sea master . amazing looking watch but it was heavy and made me uncomfortable wearing it.
Another advice: if you get a watch and you don't like it do not immediately sell it. consider getting a new band for it. I have had many watches that I hated until i switch the band to something more comfortable.
And ldon't buy into hype and learn to understand when you are being the victim of marketing . Luminox for example for the most part are trash that they advertise as watches that tough navy seals wear or commandos or even bear Grylls but having owned a few of those I would not trust my life to those as their movement is weak and heavy impacts would either damage the watch or make the time jump. Another example is those watches from microbrands making it sound like every woman in the block is going to want to take you home because you are buying a 100 knock off a 10k watch . chances are the watch will fall short on those expectations by quite a bit. lastly understand that the only person that cares about what is on your wrist is you.99% of people do not know what is on your wrist nor do they care.Unless it is a Rolex but then you get the attention of other people that may think that watch belongs to them instead.
Money does not equal joy. I mean , sure the more you spend the better quality watch you will get from example , Casio or Citizen. but as you pass the 800-1000 dollar mark you are mostly paying for the brand and not the watch .
Lastly: Never tell your wife how much you paid for your watch lmao
Love the weight advice my friend! Something I don’t take into account till it’s in the hands!
Thanks for the advice tho Bredrin.. Have to try and implement these Tactics.
Do it Mr M!!! ;)
I have become an overnight fan and the "5 week plan" plan is genius and so very true to life. I am strongly considering leaving a poster of myself with all the local watch shops asking them not to serve me lol. Love the videos keep them coming.
Another banger of a video. Thx for the content
Kyle!! Appreciate that!
Good advice, after buying homage divers then finding used seiko divers with patina I love. Wish I’d taken my time!!! 👍.
It’s a journey Stu and we all have our f)ck ups! I made a big one with the Pogue!
Lol, your always funny Russel. I've always thought long and hard about my buys, and I still love all my watches. I've never bought new though , and saved a fortune. I've purchased all mine off eBay bar one, and I have been careful that the sellers are good, and I've never had any problems. I've probably got what I want now, so I tend to just window shop now , lol.
I always end up smiling and feeling good after watching one of your videos. Great advice as well of course, especially the part of not overspending on a watch(es) it is easy to get carried away when one is mad about watches as the ones loving this channel.
Absolute comedy at its best, love this and so true 😂
Russ my brother, you hit the nail on the head with this one! The wife and I have an agreement.... if I get a new watch with money out of my front pocket (gifts don't count) I must part with one of my existing watches. It helps me plot my decisions and purchases carefully. I'm at the point to where I'm not necessarily looking for my "next watch" but moreso upgrading watches I already own and focusing more long term on realistic grail watches (Datejust and/or Cellini Danaos).
Me: Hey babe, just picked up my Sub from the AD finally! But don’t worry, my Seiko 5 is getting listed on eBay tonight.
@@davidwaks8940 More like "Don't worry my Timex Ironman is getting listed on ebay tonight." Gotta have a few cheap sacrificial lambs lying around for new stock coming in.😂
So good Russ !!!! Thank you 😊
Thanks Jason!!
I have been collecting watches for some time now. My only piece of advice would be quality is better than quantity.
( of course if you don’t have a RUclips channel)
Excellent advice all around! I like the idea of videos like this every now and then 😎
cheers Chaz!!! Appreciated that
Loved the 5 week plan with the Mrs. So true. One massive thing you missed at the end of this video. "3 weeks later - rinse and repeat for your next purchase..." Ha ha.
Very good advice and love the comparison with relationships 👏. Very entertaining my friend
Truly great points, all of them. You really nailed the reality of searching, buying and owning watches
I had the same experience with Oris. They make super attractive watches and in person, the pointer date is amazing! But the divers 65 felt like some $4-$500 divers I’d had. Build quality wasn’t what I expected
Most underwhelming watch experience;(
Great insight! Thanks for sharing 😎👍🏼
Love the entertainment! "... I am really talking about watches ... ;-) "
Creeping up on 30K Subs!!!! Yay! Hope you have continued success
The watch buying journey is legitimately such an emotional dollar coaster. Buying watches and selling them to be filled with regret of buying them or selling them. Sometimes we end up rebuying them and sometimes we have to sell them at a significant loss. I am definitely more into dress or “every day” style watches, but exactly as you said, end up wearing dive watches or a g shock etc. i work in health care and wearing my very nice watches generally isn’t practical. And wearing leather straps is definitely a no go since I have to wash regularly and it can be a breeding ground for bacteria. It sucks because it limits me to rubber and metal straps mostly during the week. I don’t really like the nato look personally.
Thank you for this my friend!! Can relate definitely! Wish I had the chance to wear a couple of good dress watches!!;)
I totally agree with the " Start Of The Show" part! :-) :-) :-)
This is the exact video that i required.... Thanks mate
Jeet! Appreciate this a lot!
Great video, I usually tell my wife when it's delivered and she walks in on me opening it. 30 yrs together we have separated bank accounts so there's that.
Well done! This may be the smartest watch video on the internet. Can’t say I always follow this advice, but I generally regret it when I don’t.
Thanks for watching Chris!
The Wifey bit is hilarious, mate! 😂 Spot on.
Unique Analysis mate!🙂👍 Highly interesting & entertaining as always! 👏👏
Mario! You are a gent thank you!
Only subbed a cool minute ago, content is refreshing. TGV is straight Custer though.
John you are a gent! Thanks for the sun and welcome aboard!!!
Great video! Spot on 😂👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I loved the back and forth with the wife - funny as f%ck , great Attenborough impersonation too !!!!
I appreciate your lesson on to respect family's spending! I had found a nice vintage watch by Technos being sold by a local watchmaker as refurbished, an Alarmdate, that seems to be quite rare to find, but even though it's almost 5x cheaper, it's still too pricey. I'm saving up money so that I can spend an extra on it - and it won't be a big deal if it gets sold before I do!
Russ,you are such a legend! 😎❤️🔥🤘
Showed the wife your 5 Week Plan - absolutely brilliant! Most entertaining watch channel ever! 😂
Hahahaha do t give it away!!!!;)
Love your reviews!
Thank you my friend!
“This sh*t’s real!” You spoke that statement with such experience behind your voice! Haha! 😂
That was great and so accurate. I’m on holiday in Jamaica and mrs said she would buy me a PRX powermatic 80 we saw in a shop!. When we went to buy it the price wasn’t what he said so I declined. The question is though should I let her buy me one or look for a Seiko King Turtle at about the same price?
Ooooooooo well y’know my thoughts on a TOSSIT Steven hahahaha!! No kidding! Go with what you think you’ll wear!!!!!
Brilliant show Russell ! Love it 😊
Great Vid, love Stage 4 😂😂😂
Cheers Rosco!!
Really great advice here. My wife loves my Omega Speedy Pro because I’ve sold off my other watches to buy her jewelry.
Clever man!! Cheers Cory!
Brilliant video. 👏
Cheers Barry!
Awsome video!!!
So true!!!
Vasilios thank you!
