Duuuuuuuude this is so sick!! I love and respect you very much. Thank you for taking the time to make this. I love your combination of humor, realness, and honesty. You are right in your assumption of it being a comped performance. This was not mimed, there was a video editing flub where the wrong video take was used. The performance was definitely edited. I felt like going that route because I had only played the song 4 times at this point (the 4 takes we comped for the album) and I was worried I would be too sloppy. Their previous drummer Anthony Barone had his Shadow of Intent drum videos slightly quantized so I agreed to do it. Definitely will be going the natty route for future playthroughs. Thank you for your kindness and compliments. You fucking rule. Hope to meet you on a tour soon! Cheers mate 🖤
@@reynlord666 not misconstrued at all brother, I feel you!! You're helping people see and hear things they would normally miss, and understand how hard this style of drumming truly is. This honestly is just gonna push me to be a tighter drummer. I appreciate you. Thank you for all that you do for the drumming community. Let's trade chops one day! 🖤
I met Bryce while he was playing with Lizard Professor some 8 years ago and we’ve been chums since, always been a goofball. After he went through some real tragedy he decided to focus on always being as positive as possible and he’s always had a smile on his face ever since. One of the best to come from DTX!!
Bryce Butler filmed a drum playthrough once in the same warehouse my band use to jam at in El Paso, TX. Got a picture and got to hang with him for awhile! Nicest guy ever. And hell of a drummer 🤘
Okay SO Bryce is one of the craziest drummers from my local area. I've literally seen him play for AT LEAST 20 PLUS BANDS over the time I've been a part of the DFW scene. Such an amazingly sweet and humble person irl as well!
I just want to say right off the bat that Bryce is one of my favorite drummers in that scene right now and I even had the pleasure of seeing him play live this year (which he fucking crushed it). Anyways, you did a great job of pointing out some of the errors in the video and then showing how he actually can play really well. You were very fair in your criticisms and stated multiple times that he was a very good drummer, so you handled this very well and professionally. Doesn’t make me think anything less of him as a drummer either. Looking forward to more of these videos!
Seriously though, Bryce is the nicest guy I've ever met. I got to take pictures while he was autographing a fans forehead in Toronto, one of the most genuine and pure experiences in my life. Super thankful to have got to meet him and been there for that special moment!
That muted blast part may have been a fuck up on the video editor, they do multiple takes and the cleanest track is put over that. But the cleaned up kicks that's a different story, doesn't make him less of a drummer.
Bryce is an absolute sweetheart and one of the best/most genuine people I know. He's just a ray of sunshine and easily one of the sickest drummers around! More people need to know Bryce!
I’ve seen him live in Dallas/Fort Worth. This is exactly how he plays drums live. The dude is good. Not everyone that is good has to look like they want to kill someone. This dude loves his job and he’s good at it. And he’s just a generally happy guy in life.
Bryce is the man! Met him when our local bands opened for Mayhem Fest in Dallas in 2013. He's always been a sick drummer and it's awesome to see the progress he's made throughout the years
def can hear the difference between the natty kicks and the cleaned up ones. bryce rushes at the tail end of his kick patterns and mashes the last couple beats together when hes getting ready for the transition. Its an easy thing to do on any instrument. i can have the same issue on guitar, end up thinking a bit ahead and then playing a few notes sloppy in a run.
This is so true , I have a habit of writing riffs around that and it’s actually a cool way to add dynamic. Like adding a quick rest after a fast run to give yourself time to switch back to where you need to be, it ends up sounding cooler sometimes .
Even the great Tomas Haake has some "play throughs" that are clearly the album drum track. It doesn't disappoint me, it is what it is. I would really get more enjoyment from hearing a live play through however.
Would love to see your thoughts on The Ocean - Jurassic | Cretaceous (Drum Play-through by Paul Seidel). Unbelieveable performance, sounds 100% natty to my untrained ears! Edit: His blasts at the end are perfect.
I don't play drums. Love watching playthroughs. Because of you I can see/hear the difference. Dude is such a good drummer though. He reminds me of my homie that smiled here and there.
Craig I would love to see you do videos on Aaron Stechauner, He plays for Interloper and used to play for Rings Of Saturn and a bunch of other sick asf bands
Definitely know what you mean when you say about society creating the need to edit drum play-throughs. On that natty Instagram video there was some guy in the comments complaining that the snare on the blast beats wasn't loud enough. Says it all really...
He is better then I will ever be, but it's also good to see that even these seasoned pros make mistakes on playthroughs, and I learn to not beat myself up so much when murdering some of the songs I attempt to play.
I would like to see and hear your opinions and thoughts on watching Adam Jarvis’s drumming videos. He’s the drummer for misery index and a couple other bands too. He’s actually my favorite death metal drummer. I love watching his videos.
These types of video don't bother me at all because it could be a slight misalignment of video editing and actual recorded take, or honestly could be 100% prerecorded and miming, but either way they're not making huge claims about that nattiness, and if viewers are educated about the standards of recording and editing (you are making that knowledge extremely accessible) then there's not really any "lying" in my opinion.
Not sure how anyone can perceive this as you “shitting on” these drummers when you’ve gone out of your way to praise them as you analyze the footage, even so far as to say in this particular one that he’s in fact “better than you at the drums”. Clearly Bryce is a huge talent, and you’ve identified that, so how can people still create this illusion that you’re doing some sort of calling out? Seems pretty cut and dry to me, people have chromosomal abnormalities, aka they’re goobers.
Should definitely be the other way around IMO. It'd be like putting a disclaimer that your video is not sponsored but no disclaimer when it is, it's dumb.
Tbh, I reckon you doing these are making these dummers show us proper vids. 100% Slaughter guy did those vids after someone told him about your vid. I wouldn't be surprised if Bryce puts out some live vids soon. And I hope the greebs do actually say that you are praising them, just pointing out the vids are edited.

You fuckin rip man I hope this isn’t misconstrued as bashing your playing. Would love to learn how to be fast from you some day ❤️
Hell ya! Love to see this. Bryce you're the man! And so are you Craig! This is the kind of interaction we all should strive to achieve.

@@brycebutlerdrums Mad respect for you both for being so civil~
That’s one of the best exchanges I’ve ever seen on RUclips, fair play, loving the all round honesty 👏🏻
Bryce is literally the happiest drummer I’ve ever witnessed. Always smiles
Matt Griener too
Saw them last year on my birthday, he smiles 24/7 lol. Very seemingly happy dude.

El Paso represent!
What show was that? I might’ve been there lol
OMG that Meinl big bell ride 😳😳😳 Can’t wait to hear it !!!
Boy that blast beat mistake is a big oversight on the editing team lol
I like the little teasers at the beginning, keep them coming

Agree with Craig, just put in the description a comment that says "product of multiple takes" or something when that is done.
Gotta catch ‘em all! Troll away good sir 🚔
Bryce is literally an angel & I miss him so much! Best drummer I have ever had the pleasure of touring with, & the nicest guy.
I love your detective work, I even saw this video and missed the part at 5:00.

That Circa Survive poster in the background is from one their best albums. RAD!

Yes! Please keep making these videos! If anyone is upset by it, maybe don’t try to record anything you can’t play 100% on the reg.
Circuit of Suns is another one! Dank af
I really like that you do the deep dive, giving a potentially great drummer a chance to redeem themselves.
Been waiting for this one 🤘🏻
Bryce is an absolute sweetheart and one of the best/most genuine people I know. He's just a ray of sunshine and easily one of the sickest drummers around! More people need to know Bryce!
Also check one of his old bands, Seeker. Hands down the meanest shit ever
I used to live down the street from Bryce and see him around all the time. SUPER sweet dude
Saw shadow of intent on Halloween, they are so fucking sick and this dude absolutely kills it.
I’ve seen him live in Dallas/Fort Worth. This is exactly how he plays drums live. The dude is good. Not everyone that is good has to look like they want to kill someone. This dude loves his job and he’s good at it. And he’s just a generally happy guy in life.
Bryce babyyy 💙 legitimately the happiest and one of THE sickest drummers I know
Ps. Challenge accepted, Craig 🤘🏻

Unless the title clearly states otherwise, I'll always assume the audio is edited on drum playthroughs.
Matt Halpern Plays "Marigold" by Periphery
Natty or not next?!
And YES he does smile ALL THE TIME
spot on
I love what you are doing!!! keep it up !
You know you’ve watched too many of these when you pick up on the “edits” before Craig points them out 🤣🤘🏻
Even the great Tomas Haake has some "play throughs" that are clearly the album drum track. It doesn't disappoint me, it is what it is. I would really get more enjoyment from hearing a live play through however.

Saw Shadow of Intent in October, dude smiled through the whole show lol
He has a new one out. A playthrough of a song from a previous album.
My brutha ❤️
AHHHHH THIS IS MY BOYYYYYYYY
2:10, Yo! What’s that!
Literally the Nattiest drummer there is , love my sweet bean man 💜

We can’t win
It's like if young, much happier, Edward Norton played drums. This is so sick
He is better then I will ever be, but it's also good to see that even these seasoned pros make mistakes on playthroughs, and I learn to not beat myself up so much when murdering some of the songs I attempt to play.
I I had to play this good at this speed I wouldn't be smiling. I'd be crying out loud from the pain on my wrists and feet
Appreciate your work. Love to see someone call it like it is. It’s just cheesy like why? Idk maybe I’m old school? 😂
alright, what is that meinl ride cymbal you've got there?
Yo my literally input the sound of that blast beat. I didnt even notice the audio only had 1 snare hit. Wtf. Cant even trust my brain anymore.
Reynolds: Making drumming great again.
O shid da homie!
I wish he actually played that short blast at 5:30 it wouldve sounded even better
Long Live Natty Or Not
I would like to see and hear your opinions and thoughts on watching Adam Jarvis’s drumming videos. He’s the drummer for misery index and a couple other bands too. He’s actually my favorite death metal drummer. I love watching his videos.
And he is 100 percent natty.
now this is a real playthrough review lol
Reynlord catches another one.
Reminds me of Anata🤘
He's one of the best drummer of modern metal DC.
What's that ride you flashed is it one of the byzance heavy hammered rides or some cool prototype?
What ride is that!!!
22" Sabian HH Powerbell Ride 🖤
natty or naughty
1:15 who hasn't been in the faceless at some point lol.. and right after i wrote this you said it yourself

That's just how his face is. It's like how some people have permanent resting B face.
CRAIG WHAT IS THE RIDE THAT HAS A BIG BELL AND YOU CAN STILL CRASH?! Please!!!
Watch this space 😉
Smile? while playing? I have the look of being constipated and waterboarded when I play.
Cause “from the” is so much better than “of” 😂
'cody' worse than craig

I think it's a disease called "fanboyism", or something like that.
Yayyyyy!!
What video is that at the end? I want to watch it lmao
Check out Blastbeatology Craig, I’d love to see a reaction to some of his stuff.
Should definitely be the other way around IMO. It'd be like putting a disclaimer that your video is not sponsored but no disclaimer when it is, it's dumb.
I don't get reaction videos. For me it just feels like stealing content from other creators.
me too, that's why these werent monetized and i stopped doing them when the pandemic ended. i was just very bored without shows, now i'm not bored
Still fucking disappointed mate, won't lie
