- In this video Mark explains the steps necessary to remove a drill press spindle. A drill press spindle can become bent if it is placed under too much strain. If this happens, you will need to replace it.

This is EXACTLY what I needed to know, and it's very helpful indeed. Very clearly done - both the descriptions and the camera work are excellent. Thank you!
Thanks! I have a SKIL model number HD3580 drill press, about 22 years old. Need to replace the both of ball bearings but, I didn't know it how. Tomorrow I am going to replace the both of ball bearings, because my drill press it's very similar the one you are worked on it. Thanks again for your help!!!
very decent informative video. Thanks, I got some good tips out of it. I don't know why everyone is complaining about ruining the bearings, you clearly state that hardly any of us is likely to have a hydraulic press, in which case your solution was adequate in my opinion in the absence of anything else. I have used this method without undue damage in the past. Thank you.
Thanks for this easy to follow demonstration on how to repair my press. I have been avoiding repairing mine, but now I can't wait to tackle it!!
It'd be great if every other instructional video on youtube rose to the level of quality of this one here.
Brilliant! I had no idea how to remove and replace a bent spindle. I now have my old drill running again.
Well done and informative. I should have watched this before I did mine. The band aid on my hand confirms that you can get a cut from that spring. And the way he uses the vice to get the spindle in and out is clever.
Very good, I used to be wary of messing with the drill press, doesn't seem so scary now. I had not realised just what a simple but effective machine they are, Thank youy
Another great video Mark, clear concise and to the point. Is there anything you haven't repaired ? I enjoy watching all of these videos, just for my entertainment.
Enjoyed the video as my 10" press has developed a bit of runout. It is only .004 now, but that is barely acceptable. It is nice to have seen this if that runout gets worse and they usually do. It's what I get for pushing too hard against a drum sander.
Clear instructions, just what I needed, thanx!
nice method for tearing apart the spindle , quell , and chuck as well as the other parts like drill press handle... good to know about the nut on the side don't take it completely off until after the tension is released
Mark congartulations for your video. It had been very useful as I'm about to buy a bench drill too old with wobbles in the axle and did not know how to repair it. I accept some constructive criticism rather safety tips. The balance is very positive Thank VM
Thanks so much! though I have used Drill Presses for over 20-years...mostly one in school or other shops, I have never had to repair one. This was really helpful & I hope new quill & bearing helps to resolve my press issues. Thanks Again:)
Great information, very helpful.
Thanks. Very well done. I wish all how-to videos were this good.
Thanks. I was very happy to find your video, now I know I can repair my Drill press. I did not quite get how or if I must replace the Spindle or get it repaired. oops I think I just found out. Thanks again.
@spelunkerd Thank you, and thanks for watching.
