The 20th anniversary from the Thaï edition (now also used by the Italian translation, I think ), by Apolar, are unmatched in my eyes. So many details, the colors, the easter eggs, the style, everything is incredible on those images. I also have a special place in my heart for the first covers of the french versions, as they are the first I got to see and experience :)
Wow- those are my childhood! Unexpected to see you paying tribute to them 😃 I especially remember buying the third with my grandma at release, and the excitement going to the city centre with just her and reading the first pages during the fika afterwards. Such a memory!
The harry potter illustrations are often stylized. So interesting to see that decent oldschool looking ullustrations look fresh and outstanding among others. And now they are in my top tier list
This artwork is very expressive and captures the essence of a core moment from the story. All of them are beautiful, but my favorite is Order of The Phoenix.
Hi Peter, I love it when you show the illustrations from the covers. Definitely if I could I would collect the illustrations of all the different illustrators who worked on the books. I hope one day Mary GrandPré publishes a book with all the art she did for the Harry Potter books, both those we were familiar with and those that many of us, potterheads, don't know. Thank you Peter for showing us the art of these illustrations.
Thanks for sharing these! I have only UK and American Versions of the books. I don't think I have the capacity for all translations but I love seeing the artwork! Thanks for showcasing your collection. More videos like this please!
Nice to see my childhood covers get their own video of recognition. I never loved the first cover, but the rest are great, especially 2, 3 5 and 6 might be my favorite of any HP cover, with 4 and 7 being somewhat weaker but still great. I watched in interview with the artist, Alvaro Tapia, where he said Harry Potter was his first cover right out of art school and he probably got the job because he was a cheap no name for this book they didn't know if it was going to sell at all, and then they were stuck with him for the rest of the series. He also said some covers have easter eggs, like the second one has his Grandpa's name on the cover as he died around that time, and sixth one supposedly has his then crush, now wife's name, though that one is more obscure and more of a if you know you know, but you're not gonna see it immediatley. I've yet to figure that one out.
I liked all covers of this edition, cant even pick a fav, they're all very whimsical, which i like) i bet tove lo read these in Sweden when she was young
I grew up with this version and never noticed that reaching hand on the backside of Prisoner of Azkaban before! Amazing to still be able to find new details. Update: and two minutes later I realized it's also the arm and shoulder of the whomping willow!
When HP first came out my own children were young and we went to our local bookstore early in the morning, I’m pretty sure we went at midnight once for goblet of fire. Alas earwax, because only a few people turned up they didn’t open. So we went back later. We were hooked from book one and I read them to my girls until my eldest decided she wanted to read her own so we had to buy two lol. Sad to say although we enjoyed the films we felt a bit dissatisfied. We decided to treat them as separate things. I went to wizarding world during a trip with my dear departed hubby for our anniversary ( we got married in Florida and went to fright night the night before we got married lol. The year it did this huge Bill and ted extravaganza). Anyway it was the second year it opened and I went home with so many , well as much as I could lol. Paid for extra luggage. My hubby went and bought so many wands because he didn’t know which I’d prefer. Anyway I digress , my eldest grandaughter is now 8 and I’m reading The Philosophers stone to her. Thanks to you I noticed a Mina Lima hardback for £6 on Vinted so I grabbed it after seeing a review from you. I’ve been watching your channel from your first video over the past month. I also spotted a paperback in Latin. I wondered if that was worth getting? It was only £4. I thoroughly enjoy all your videos and just started you playing a video game ( yes I’m old and no idea of terminology lol). I just think you’re a lovely young man, a credit to your mum.Thank you so much for your hard work.
Hey Peter good to see u. Great video, this is the first time for me seeing different cover art all of them look great. Where do u usually buy these books, great to see bro God bless and thank u for everything u do
You sir are awesome. Thank you for your content. You’re an inspiration. We are starting our own collection and will be posting our first ever Wizarding trunk opening soon. Thank you so much for being you
These Swedish editions are absolutely beautiful. Like many others have already commented, I must say the Thai editions are my favorites. I once suggested to you in a letter Peter, you should compile an art book of these beautiful international covers. It would be a wonderful testament to the power of these stories. Please consider it.
I love The design of these books, im Swedish and I want to read The books in english for better translation. But im so in love with the look of the swedish covers, so I had to get them🥺
Stunning editions, never seen these before! I love the Thai editions also. Your pronunciation was really good! 👍 It says: lightning ornament over the floor.
For me, the original covers for the Dutch translations are the most beautiful. Especially Philosophers Stone. The picture of Harry on his broom in the Night Sky with hedwig behind him is very artsy to me. The Danish editions' original covers are on the same level for me.
I have the first edition of the 3rd book and it has the movie font - as you could see on your sketches as well 2nd editions of book 1 and 2 have the movie font too, I was late starting to read/buy them but I prefer having them all in the same font on the back, so I'm not sad about it
There lady online and her channel called my bookshelf. She recover all her Harry Potter books in hard covers. You so amazed amount of work put into it.
I think the first 3 books were released with the Pre-Movie font, but the third one probably didn't have a very long print run before they switched to the movie font, as the first Swedish edition of Prisoner was released in 2001, same as the first movie. The first three books also has releases with dust jackets and ribbon book marks, that are quite rare, but not impossible to find. My first Chamber that my parents got me had this dust jacket and I've stumbled upon the other two in the salvation army's book bins in OK condition, but they're not super common.
If you have balance & organization skills, You can do Anything 👏🏻 The colors on the covers are fantastic !! My favorite is the Order of the Phoenix’s 🖤🖤🖤 And Deathly Hallows 💙💙💙 You could put your sketches on the wall if you could do a Permanent Sticking Charm !!
Hi! I bought my first copy as a 12 year old the year the book came out here in Sweden. The covers were truly magical for my imagination ❤😊 Thanks for this video!
Did you notice that the illustration shows his scar on the opposite side? We’re used to seeing it over his right eyebrow and this translation has it over the left eyebrow. Any reason for the change?
Definitely much better pre-movie-font. I can’t remember seeing them with the movie-font. I so used to seeing the Swedish books, so I’m not really think so much of this edition 😮
I have a theory about why the chains were removed in the final illustration of Goblet of Fire. It seems to me that it opens up the possibility for the observer to interpret the people running below the dragon fire to be seen as the people running away from the fire at the World Cup when the Death Eaters are terrorizing people, because of the Dark Mark in the sky. I think that was an amazing choice to let the illustration speak to more scenes in the book. ✨✨
I am from Sweden. And I only fysicaly own the swedish version. I absolutely love them all exept maybe the philosophers Stone. The train looks weird and the characters at the bottom don't look like what I envisioned them. But all the other covers are amazing IMO
Hey today in the netherlands an episode aired where they caught one of the biggest british forger of fake signed hp books there was this dutch guy collecting signed hp books and he had like 55 books and afterwards it turned out only 8 where real and all others where forged by the same guy. Might be word to have your books checked
These are incredibly unique. The cover art does not at all match what I think of when I think of the Wizarding World. It's more of a Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland kind of magical vibe to me. I'm not saying that as a bad thing, though. It's interesting to see other people's interpretations of the Wizarding World. That's the beauty of books. What one person imagines can be completely different from someone else. My favorite covers are the 20th anniversary Thai by Apolar.
My favorites is always going to be the 20th anniversary thai editions. Wish they sold the art separately. If they do, please tell me where I can go to buy the art. No room for the book set.
Beautiful to see you talk about the books that I have read so many times that I lost count 😍 I have a question that I think you are the right one to ask. So I have a "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" (Swedish edition and rather new one as well) has a missprint on the cover, back and spine of the book. The foliling is missing on all sides, you can still barely see and feel the text but at first glance it looks like the text i missing complteley. Would you say that this is a common misstake or could the book be pretty rare? Thank you in advance! ☺
Dang!! I loved all 7. Verry preatty. But my heart stil beats for the 20th aniversary thailand editions. Second 1to 4 of the american ones. And...i think is portland the third. This ones are very well thoght, i just dont like the faces and how mudy the art is. Still a top vote. My favoret in this video is...1, 4 and 7.

Without a doubt the 20th anniversary Thai covers. The longer you study them the more details you spot.
Didn’t Lockhart release Cornish Pixes in CoS?
Absolutely. I even printed out and framed them 😁
Those are mine too!!! I would love posters!!!!
Facts
I assume he meant actually in the chamber, with Harry and Fawkes. Unlike whats depicted on the cover.
Yes he did and then left the class to clean it up. I will never forget poor Neville hanging from the chandelier in the classroom
Wow- those are my childhood! Unexpected to see you paying tribute to them 😃 I especially remember buying the third with my grandma at release, and the excitement going to the city centre with just her and reading the first pages during the fika afterwards. Such a memory!
It says “lightning ornament across the floor”:) Happy you love the Swedish edition, I do too!
It’s ”flash of lightening ornament on the grid”
More like "flash of lightning ornament over the grid"
the Swedish on the sketch "thunderbolt ornament over the grill" :) These books are my childhood!
I noticed that the scar is over Harry's left eye vs the right eye that we are familiar with here in America
The harry potter illustrations are often stylized. So interesting to see that decent oldschool looking ullustrations look fresh and outstanding among others. And now they are in my top tier list
The Thestral is my absolutely favorite, but I also love Buckbeak with the pumpkin patch! The Dementor also reminded me of Ursula's cave! 😂
They're all absolutely beautiful though! 😍
Minalima’s Edition also looks adorable!
This artwork is very expressive and captures the essence of a core moment from the story. All of them are beautiful, but my favorite is Order of The Phoenix.

That Thestral cover is one of the most incredible HP things I've ever seen!!!
Thanks for sharing these! I have only UK and American Versions of the books. I don't think I have the capacity for all translations but I love seeing the artwork! Thanks for showcasing your collection. More videos like this please!
wow the swedish prefronts are exceptional beautiful.
These books are so magical! Love them all! Thank you for showing us these!

The Thai editions by Arch Apolar are by far my favorites.
I liked all covers of this edition, cant even pick a fav, they're all very whimsical, which i like) i bet tove lo read these in Sweden when she was young

I would have to say my favorite covers to date are the 20th anniversary Thai covers.
6:55 The pixies were not in the chamber, but they most certainly are part of the book! Remember Lockharts class ;)
I was going to mention this as well
I like the Jim Kay illustrated edition covers the most out of all I've seen. But tbh, there are many close second places. ; )
I'm a Harry Potter Fan I Collect Wand's too
I Got 9 Wands In My Collection
Want to add that the translation (to Swedish) is so great and truly magical as well!! Well done all the translators in different languages!
These Swedish editions are absolutely beautiful. Like many others have already commented, I must say the Thai editions are my favorites. I once suggested to you in a letter Peter, you should compile an art book of these beautiful international covers. It would be a wonderful testament to the power of these stories. Please consider it.
Having those original sketches is amazing.
I love The design of these books, im Swedish and I want to read The books in english for better translation. But im so in love with the look of the swedish covers, so I had to get them🥺
For me the best illustrations are from JIM KAY, BEUTIFULL BOOKS.
I would LOVE to see a video of all your original artwork, Peter! That would be incredible! :D
That is absolutely cool that you have the art work as well!!! ❤
I'd like to see j.k do a book about fleamont potter?
Stunning editions, never seen these before! I love the Thai editions also. Your pronunciation was really good! 👍 It says: lightning ornament over the floor.
These are truly beautiful 😃💕 as someone who lives and collects books 📚 i would love to see more videos on your library and books 😊
The Lithuanian Translation have some beautiful cover artwork on them
On the last print, he has made a note with an arrow, it says translated: ”make sure the information isn’t included”
Love the art on chamber of secrets, most covers has a snake that almost give the mystery away
Might be a bit biased as I grew up with the Swedish once, but they really are my favorite covers!
For me, the original covers for the Dutch translations are the most beautiful. Especially Philosophers Stone. The picture of Harry on his broom in the Night Sky with hedwig behind him is very artsy to me. The Danish editions' original covers are on the same level for me.
Hi Peter! I love the artwork too on these Harry Potter books. My other favorite artwork is by Jonny Duddle. Thank you for sharing!
Adding to my Harry Potter tattoo sleeve while watching this nothing better ❤
I have the first edition of the 3rd book and it has the movie font - as you could see on your sketches as well
2nd editions of book 1 and 2 have the movie font too, I was late starting to read/buy them but I prefer having them all in the same font on the back, so I'm not sad about it
The 20th anniversary Thai covers are the most beautiful IMO, second would be the Indonesian ones 😊

Hi! I bought my first copy as a 12 year old the year the book came out here in Sweden. The covers were truly magical for my imagination ❤😊
Thanks for this video!
The Chamber of secrets, so beautiful. My favourite
Did you notice that the illustration shows his scar on the opposite side? We’re used to seeing it over his right eyebrow and this translation has it over the left eyebrow. Any reason for the change?
I feel for me Minalima books are so cool. and i love them so far the best harry potter books experiance~!
I also loves the swedish books, they really are beautiful
Stunning artwork & great addition to your collection !!!! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙👏👏
Definitely much better pre-movie-font. I can’t remember seeing them with the movie-font. I so used to seeing the Swedish books, so I’m not really think so much of this edition 😮

you need to come to Australia because there is a Forbidden Forest Experience in the Mornington Peninsula outside of Melbourne.
Definitely my favorite cover arts are the French ones by Jean-Claude Götting, specially Deathly Hallows.
All I’m going to say is that I’m glad that Harry Potter books are in different languages I think French Sweden are most beautiful languages
I am from Sweden. And I only fysicaly own the swedish version. I absolutely love them all exept maybe the philosophers Stone. The train looks weird and the characters at the bottom don't look like what I envisioned them. But all the other covers are amazing IMO
The Swedish Harry looks GORGEOUS!!! ❤️
The Thai version by Arch Apolar is the most beautiful, in my opinion (But the originals are definitely up there).
I just looked it up and wow 😮 im in love
The German translations with the fancy covers over your left shoulder
Dialogue Alley covered one of the German books from that set in our last episode with Peter!
Sweden 🇸🇪 ❤❤ grew up with this art and they are beautiful
I wonder if the carving type pictures are a nod to Swedens heritage - very similar to Oseberg art.
Big Love from Sweden ❤🇸🇪
This man needs a genius world record gift!👌🏻💗
Beautiful illustrations. 🙂
In my mind the swidish HARRY POTTER ADULT EDITION 2004 covers are the most beautiful of all time . They have a bit of a game of thrones vibe to them .
German 20th edition covers are my favourite, they scream steam punk to me and love it.
Yeahhhh Chamber is also my favorite... such an unpopular opinion... but I love it
Whoop! Love from Sweden🫶🏻
Jonny duddle is my favourite covers
I personally think the 20th anniversary Thailand editions are the most beautiful editions of the books ever published (in my opinion anyway)
I like the Thai and 20th anniversary Dutch edition.
For me the most beautiful are Jim Kay's ilustrated edition
Hey today in the netherlands an episode aired where they caught one of the biggest british forger of fake signed hp books there was this dutch guy collecting signed hp books and he had like 55 books and afterwards it turned out only 8 where real and all others where forged by the same guy. I have been waiting for this video for ages 😅❤ you also made me see that my chamber of secrets got the pre movie font, the rest got the other 😂🤦🏼♀️
Wow very great video. I love you work ❤❤ you always do amazing work on your channel.
20th anniversary Thai editions are my favorites!!!
Same
I loved those German 20th ones were the best

My favorite covers are the 20th anniversary Thai by Apolar.
I have to agree with those who rate the Thai artwork as the best...but these are very good. 😊😊😊
Thank you = Tack så mycket (on Swedish)
My favorites is always going to be the 20th anniversary thai editions.
Wish they sold the art separately.
If they do, please tell me where I can go to buy the art.
No room for the book set.
Please do some more wand videos
I'm never the first one here in the comments. So exciting haha.
I think the Russian cover artwork has a dark and forbidding art ❤
Like I want to buy a set and frame the covers 🥰
Beautiful to see you talk about the books that I have read so many times that I lost count 😍
I have a question that I think you are the right one to ask. I am totally biased and love the Danish covers.
I’m swedish!
Jim Jay covers!!!!
20th Anniversary Thai, German and Slovak editions
“Freshly picked Cornish pixies” wasn’t said on CHAMBER OF SECRETS? 🤔
Do someone see the worlds om the scetch. I know swedish but I cant see what it says
Dang!! I loved all 7. Verry preatty. But my heart stil beats for the 20th aniversary thailand editions.

The illustrated Harry Potter book series
