Such bizarre covers! I wonder how many of the artists or publishers actually read the books before making/approving the art. 😅 Definitely keep this series going! So interesting learning about these books!
Those are very interesting covers. On the Bosnian cover, it looks like Harry is a chess piece. I love the Italian cover, especially the hats on the chess pieces.
On the Italian book cover without Harry’s glasses, I did not see his lightening bolt on his forehead. I did not see it on the corrected cover either. This was great!
This is the first Bosnian edition, Bosnia did not have its own books before that, they bought Croatian and Serbian editions, it depends on who preferred what because there is very little difference between the three languages. The Croatian editions disappeared because the publisher "Algoritam" went bankrupt in 2012. The publisher owed money for the rights to those books, so no other publisher in Croatia could get the rights to them. As far as I've seen, you have Croatian editions of "Algoritma", but in paperback and those books are not so popular. The hard edition has the same cover as the American one and still holds the price, although after almost 10 years Croatia finally got HP books from the publishers "Mozaik knjiga".
Sorry, I wrote that in a hurry, later I realized that you meant the time when the first printing of that edition disappeared. But it is also related to my first comment, because for the Bosnians this was the first edition, but the Croatians also did not have their own books at that time. So when the first Bosnian edition came out, the books sold out quickly. However, after the first one, a lot of people decided that they didn't like the translation as well as the cover, so there wasn't a big rush for them afterwards.
Definitely keep this series going, it's so interesting 😊 The 1st one makes me think of a child's drawing. I could listen to you talk about the books all day, you just have so much knowledge it's amazing
i love seeing all the different artwork. I wish yo u could make a book of the book cover artwork, but i guess that would be expensive, getting all the permissions from the artists involved.
Please continue this series. I'd love it if you could add more insight about why the covers turned out like this. It would be interesting to know if some artistic choices have been made because of how the translation was made or because of cultural codes within each country. I don't remember it all, but I'd read something about the Italian cover and how the mouse next to Harry was a cultural reference. Some choices could also be just the artist's style (I'm thinking this could explain the cover with every character having a big nose, but that's just me guessing).
Great concept for a video! You should do all 7 books then finish the series with your favorites from your collection - or maybe even covers you don't have yet and would love to collect.
Great video - such funny covers, the adding of materials, the rat hat and the dinosaurs - haha, you can feel the rush to just get the book out there! I personally would love to see the rest in the series
The first one is pink. Na. That should be for Order of the Phoenix for Umbridge.😁 Would Voldemort have a nose with those noses🤔. Dinosaurs. Na. I'm dead.🤣 the crossover no one asked for.😂
Oh, my partner do have that top hat Czech version from his childchood! My though it it's less an error of translation of the word hat to "top hat", I think it's just artist confusing wizard type of magic with illusionist type of magic, that traditionally often involves top hats. Also fun fact, in Polish translation Sorting Hat was translated to "Tiara of Sorting" even though it's still described as a hat.
I’m glad that in Hellenic editions we kept the original UK covers and we didn’t created things like… “these” Dear Lord, they are all hideous😂 I like the Serbian version though, I have the whole Lemony Snicket series and I really loved the covers! So, even though they took another series’ covers at least it looked nice! The others are like… the next is more awful than the previous😅
I knew Finnish translation would be here as soon as I saw the title :D I love the artwork to bits because it's my childhood, but the Finnish covers are odd for sure :D
Just got back from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter last week and it was MEMORABLE :) Hope when I come back again, I can meet you there, Peter. Who knows! Best of wishes for your day, Peter. God bless.
Hi from Ukraine! I was waiting for the whole video to see if there would be a Ukrainian edition in Peter's list 😉 Thanks for the video Peter. Be sure to make it a series. I love your book videos ❤
As a Finn i had to do some googling about the artwork. And I found absolutely nothing :D Only that the artist said that it's a common thing for wizards to have a big nose. And it grows when you become a better wizard 😅
Also, I'd offer an Honorable Mention for Bulgarian 20th anniversary, Hungarian First Edition (Indiana Jones) and Burmese (Unauthorized) Exit Books - Harry's Exploding Heart....
As an italian, for a long time i though the rat hat harry was the official cover... Back in the days i disliked it, but know i think it's quite unique!
Great video as always Peter you always do great videos on RUclips. Love the covers very well done and very cute yes why is the nose so big? All those covers are so beautiful love number 8 cover so cool and much going on. These are very odd covers Peter thank you so much for a fantastic video. ❤❤
3:39 I like to think that is just like a random British wizard from wizarding world who just lives his life probably has heard of Harry Potter but has never met him
I think the wizard on the cover of the last book isn't Dumbledore but another HP wizard. I've seen his image someplace but I can't recall who it is. But I'll check to see if I can find him or who I think it is. ***Professor Basil Fronsac
Hello Peter - I have a weird copy of Sorcerer’s Stone that has a major production error. It’s a hard cover copy and all the pages from 218 - 247 are out of order. For example, it goes from page 218 to 223, then 224 to 221, etc. I bought this box set that came in a Harry Potter traveling trunk about 18 years ago and so I thought I’d see if you’ve heard of this production error often?
Hey Peter, I have question. Are there Latin American Spanish translations of the books? If so. Could you please give me some info on those releases? The book industry in Latin America usually sources its translations from European Spanish in order to cut on costs, which can be kinda frustrating.
We have a Dialogue Alley episode about the different Spanish translations! Essentially there are four main versions of the Spanish translation: the original, Castilian Spanish, Latin American Spanish (broad term I know), and Southern Cone. Happy to help point you in the right direction!
@@kreegs07 Thanks for this info! Here's a question tho, how would one recognize each variant in the wild? Like, how would I know which variant I'm getting when buying a book? Is there a clear distinctive in the bar code or something along the lines? Also, are these regional variations available for every release/edition of the books, or are they only available for the earlier ones, etc?
No wonder the Harry Potter books were banned several places when they first came out. It wasn't because parents didn't want their kids to read about magic and sorcery... It was the terrifying book covers. lol
Yes you should continue this as a series that would be real interesting these are definitely odd book covers
Definitely some great choices! I’ve always thought the guy running on the Farsi was Snape on fire during the Quidditch match.
Please do continue this top ten for the entire series. I would like to see that.
I’d love to see the series continue. Thank you.
More book video's please. love this series already. I have to say as a Jurassic park fan too, that book cover wins the odd crown for me. Great video!
I just brought my first magic delivered package, I’m so excited. Thank you for indulging me in my little love for Harry Potter
The Ukraine one is pretty sweet! The one with Jurassic Park is the weirdest ever though 😂
Such bizarre covers! I wonder how many of the artists or publishers actually read the books before making/approving the art. 😅
Definitely keep this series going! So interesting learning about these books!
Those are very interesting covers. On the Bosnian cover, it looks like Harry is a chess piece. I love the Italian cover, especially the hats on the chess pieces.
Very excited either way this new book series! Keep it going
I really enjoyed hearing background on the odd covers and illustrators, great series topic!
On the Italian book cover without Harry’s glasses, I did not see his lightening bolt on his forehead. I did not see it on the corrected cover either. This was great!
Yeah it wasn't there and that to me is a big thing to get wrong but at least there wasn't a velociraptor. 😂
That “clip art wizard’s” name is Oberon Zell. I’ve met him a few times. Great man.
Please keep this series going!! It's fantastic!
Yes to continuing this series 👍❤
I also look forward to you continuing this series
The clip art cover is wild 😂The Persian & Ukrainian ones are so interesting to analyze.
Yes definitely make this a series for each book please 🙌
Mind blown by some of the covers! 🤯
Definitely continue the series! 😁
The Dutch covers are also pretty funky.
Hey, Peter. You should definitely continue this series, really fascinating to see the different cover interpretations from all over the world. 😮
Fabulous! My favorite version you showed was the Persian Goblet of Fire.
Yes, please continue this series!
Love the Channel. You really helped me pick my FIRST set of books 📚 I'm reading Harry Potter for the FIRST time and im Loving it 😍
As long as you keep adding the sound effects, I say keep this going

I would love to see the oddest covers of The Chamber of Secrets
As a graphic designer who creates book covers….I LOVE THIS!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️. looking forward to your analysis of each one of the books!
These editions are unique=3 Thank you for showing us the books! Have a nice week, Peter=3
Thank you for sharing your collection with us. Can't wait to see more of this series. 😁
I show my friends your videos. They cant believe your collection 😮
Looking forward to the rest of this series! would also love to see your top 10 favourite covers for each book 😀
I love the Ukranian one !! Yes, please continue with the series :)
I think it would be great to see the most beautiful book covers. More of these would be great too.
i love seeing all the different artwork. I wish yo u could make a book of the book cover artwork, but i guess that would be expensive, getting all the permissions from the artists involved.

Dinosaurs. Na. I'm dead.🤣 the crossover no one asked for.😂
So much fun. Yes please do the whole series.
Dialogue Alley is a genius name :)
I feel like that HAS to be the name of some high school debate team
Hi Peter! The 10 books you chose are definitely very interesting cover artwork. Thank you for sharing! 💚
Great idea to show us some of the other translations with unusual covers would love to see more some time. thanks
This was really interesting ! I didn’t realize there were so many different versions of the books.

In Bosnia and Iceland's HP book covers, Harry's lightning scar is also in the middle of his forehead and then in Italian's NO scar at all. 😅😅😅
I’m glad that in Hellenic editions we kept the original UK covers and we didn’t created things like… “these”
Dear Lord, they are all hideous😂
I like the Serbian version though, I have the whole Lemony Snicket series and I really loved the covers!

I really enjoyed this video. I look forward to the other videos in this series 😊
I'm pretty sure that 'Harry' on the Persian cover is just a still taken from "The little Vampire" film.
Oh that’s what it was!
Love your videos always look forward to seeing them
I knew Finnish translation would be here as soon as I saw the title :D I love the artwork to bits because it's my childhood, but the Finnish covers are odd for sure :D
100%! They’re CLASSICS!
Just got back from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter last week and it was MEMORABLE :) Hope when I come back again, I can meet you there, Peter. Who knows! Best of wishes for your day, Peter. God bless.
Hi from Ukraine! I was waiting for the whole video to see if there would be a Ukrainian edition in Peter's list 😉

I recently bought all the original cover books that are Bloomsbury Raincoast🇨🇦
As an italian, for a long time i though the rat hat harry was the official cover...
Back in the days i disliked it, but know i think it's quite unique!
I really like the swedish 20-year anniversary covers by Olly Moss. Do you have those
The final book .. the Ukrainian Version is my favorite .... The artwork is amazing
Can you do a review of Gilderoy Lockhart's wand from the Noble Collection?
At least the Finnish book gives Hermione the big teeth, and the Ukrainian one puts McGonagle in her emerald robes. So, cool.
Great video as always Peter you always do great videos on RUclips. Love the covers very well done and very cute yes why is the nose so big? All those covers are so beautiful love number 8 cover so cool and much going on. These are very odd covers Peter thank you so much for a fantastic video. ❤❤
3:39 I like to think that is just like a random British wizard from wizarding world who just lives his life probably has heard of Harry Potter but has never met him
Omg the Persian covers are hilarious! That's so wild to me. Lol.
I actually really like the big nose artwork 😂
Yes Peter excellent idea .

I’ve always wanted a “coffee table” book of Harry Potter covers from around the world.
This is a great series!
Great video 📚📚📚
I burst out with laughter at the Persian cover. I thought that was the Little Vampire on a broom. 😅
I always mix Little Vampire and page-master up. 🤣
Hi Peter love your channel ❤️.
Hmmm, that was fun. Didn't know there were so many wild versions of the book covers. That was interesting. 😏
Love the beard! 😊
Yes keep going, chamber of secrets next,

the Czech book cover looks like a little kid’s book art

Is there a Mexico specific cover collection
Until you said that there is owls on first book cover I thought that it is ghosts or portraits of Dumbledore, MacGonnagall and Snape😂😅
No wonder the Harry Potter books were banned several places when they first came out. It wasn't because parents didn't want their kids to read about magic and sorcery... It was the terrifying book covers. lol
Yes please
Italian cover has no scar on Harry's forehead!
Love ur videos
The sorting hat became the talking hat
Good evening Sir,
Please tell me at which place did I buy books of Harry Potter in London?
Good afternoon Peter
Continue the series
Sounds like a plan!
Just WHERE is that damn scar? On the right? In the middle? oh well, even the inaccurate ones are beautiful in a folk art way
