Because I never subscribed this series completely dropped of my radar because of the break you (rightfully) had to take. So I made sure I subbed because these videos are great! Always happy to see more high quality KSP content out there :) excited to see where the series goes
Thanks for subbing and following the series, yeah youtube nearly forgot me there for a bit! Hard at work on the next few videos can’t wait to get them out! :D
Idea: Send an ssto to sarnus, enter its atmosphere, and use the fireflash engine to hop around its different atmospheric biomes and collect science Edit: To avoid confusion, all gas giants added in OPM have different biomes when flying low in their atmospheres
I got this one working by making sure the hinge was mounted at the CoM of the engine pod, setting dampening down to like 20ish, and setting a separate toggle key for both engage and disengage on the hinge lock. So when not in use you can spam the lock button until it finally locks the pod in place (if you use the toggle on/off instead there’s a good chance you’ll unlock it again accidentally while spamming the key). Even this is still pretty wobbly as you can see in some spots. Hope that helps some folks though!
If you want an easier fuel transfer then i recommend "ship manifest" a easy way to transfer crew, science, and etc, you can even pick individual parts to transfer with
This is a pretty cool vtol craft, it kind of reminds me a bit of a VTOL SSRT i built, that is pretty similar to your vtol ssto but mine is all rocket, meaning it can pretty much also land/takeoff from any solid celestial body in the game (exept eve) and for tylo it needs to dock with a what is essentially engine +fuel tank as a booster for extra delta v to help it land, but also needs a specialized transport system to bring it around the solar system
This is very similar to a system I used back before I started YT, used a big nerv tug to haul it out to different planets and had just enough DV to land on anything up to Tylo and Slate sizes (though just barely) and had a stripped down ISRU system to refuel on the surface and leave. Sounds awesome though and thanks!
the docking maybe have gone smoother if you disable "aim at target" when you move closer. its nice if the vessels are a bit apart to align, but when moving in, just activate normal sas and move via rcs directions, without pitch and jaw. docking cam is a nice mod to make it visuelly easier
Please go to Tekto and back. It could be a very good place to make a nuclear powered plane (using the new engine) or to make a propeller plane. Also, Tekto looks amazing and there is a LOT of science to be processed.
In my career play. I made a super early stage vtol. I see up the gyros from the capsules in a + shape. Seting --- to SAS only then the. [ axis to normal. That chaged the game for me. Testing with slightly bigger planes it works great too.
I just use a completely fresh install and let CKAN add everything for me. Outside of that idk all the dependencies, the main one is Kerbal Konstructs though
I play elite dangerous and if they had half of simulations with atmosphere and atmospheric friction, then they do and this game it would be so much popular and awesome
Kerbinside Remastered like the other commenter said, and all of the kerbinside extras I could find as well ( don’t remember off of the top of my head) should be in the list and mod pack though!
What game version are you playing KSP1? The newest or an older release for more compatibility? CKAN gave me a warning about one of the near future mods and im trying to make a mod setup I like but i am not used to modding this game
For the most part you can completely ignore version warnings like that, I’m on 1.12.5 and a good bit of the mods here say they aren’t compatible still works fine though! :)
@@smooneychad I also realized that there are a lot of mods on spacedock that aren't on the mod list of CKAN itself so now I'm experimenting with a lot more mods
I made a custom HUD with Kerbal Engineer Redux, went through and added those to it, then dragged it next to the navball so I’d have all my velocity info in the same spot! Has been REALLY handy especially the vertical speed section for landing!
I define it as they can still fly/glide when they are in atmosphere, unlike something like a mun lander or interplanetary transport which is undeniably a spacecraft. Kinda both though!
technically, every rocket is a VTOL
Exept the space shuttle and others like it
Technically only SpaceX' rockets are VTOL. As the name states, it needs to also land vertically (or at least be capable of doing so)
And helicopters
@@YgernaI don't think VTOL specifies a powered landing, so any rocket with chutes can be a VTOL to my understanding.
Not all rockets are VTOL only ones that can land, since VTOL stands for vertical take-off and landing. For example, a helicopter
You could add a small ski-ramp at the end of the runway to help with heavier crafts, like the Bayraktar TB2 naval ski ramp test runway.
I read this and was immediately like “that’s it, that’s what I need to do!” Didn’t even notice who it was at first, big thanks for the idea man!

With Tekto lacking oxygen too I’ll probably already have a fireflash on board for this when going to Sarnus, awesome idea!
You know, I almost never see anyone go to Moho. I say it's time to show that poor pebble some love and give it a good probing.
Man why does everyone else's VTOL's work so well? Mine always have the hinges swing around like a drunk driver on ice.
Same
Try autostrust
Mine worked great until landing then flame outs and crashes
fun fact: you can toggle autostrut midflight, that might help

Keep this series going! It’s so amazing to watch the progress you make each episode
That’s awesome! Gonna keep it going until the end!
smooney i found your channel yesterday and am addicted to these episodes ty bro
Glad you like them, thank you for checking them out!! :D

Glad to see you're doing better and back on track, keep up the good work!
Will do, thanks for always tuning in!
If you want an easier fuel transfer then i recommend "ship manifest" a easy way to transfer crew, science, and etc, you can even pick individual parts to transfer with
I’ll look into adding that to the pack, refueling is gonna become really important as time goes on
Love this series pal! You're great, the videos are great, and you have beautiful plane designs!
Thanks so much!! I truly appreciate that!
This series is so entertaining
Keep up the amazing work man💪💪💪
this is a banger of a playthrough
Thanks! :D

Glad you’re enjoying it!
You have proved your manliness
Wish I could send a gigachad emoji for this
Awesome content, keep it up 🤍
Thanks!! More on the way!

That sounds like the sort of multiburn I could do.
Volumetric clouds on a laptop!
God what a cool vehicle, cant wait to see where you take this from here.
Thanks! Things are probably only gonna get crazier from here!
the quality on theese videos is amazing
Thank you!! I have really high standards for my videos and I’m glad it shows!
Finally!!! Well done smooney!
Thank you!!! :D
Your southern accent is soothing :)
Hey thanks! :D
This series is fire
Thanks!
Idea: make the asteroid station bc u already have the mobile proccessing lab
Would be a great place to drop off our science gains (if not in a bit of an inconvenient orbit though lol)
Please go to Tekto and back. It could be a very good place to make a nuclear powered plane (using the new engine) or to make a propeller plane. Also, Tekto looks amazing and there is a LOT of science to be processed.
Also there are some surface features / easter eggs (not gonna spoil them in case you go to Tekto). Wherever you go next, have fun!
and is orbiting a ring planet too, which is a bonus there
I think the mission is finally coming to together, thanks!!
Deployed while stored makes it so landing gear works while in cargo bays
Well that’s handy, thanks!
The vtol looks like a really fat F-104 had a baby with the early convair VTOL plane concepts
Help my vtol f-104 ate too much!
If you add an empty stage beneath your current one you can still see your delta v readout, so maneuver nodes show your burn time
I’ll try that out, thanks!!
Lets gooo another episode (damn this was a quick wait lol)
I’m back on schedule! (somewhat) lol
@@smooneychad yay
You should go to the Sarnus system for sure

Go to laythe, it will be really fun in an aircraft only run
does the jool system even have a ring tho?
I have very special plans for laythe eventually! Perfect home away from home for aircraft
Eves 100% the malenia of ksp. Save that one for last. Maybe make a base with refueling capabilities on duna next?
I like the idea, could be a good opportunity to test out interplanetary launch pads for the first time!
It was worth the wait
tfw I've been watching this playthrough but forgot to subscribe
Well, fixed that
Ay thanks for subscribing, and more than that for watching! :D
I only just noticed that kerbals have different skin tones
I believe that’s added with the texture replacer mod, not unlike KSP 2 kerbals though
We love sarnus
Sarnus is goated
You call it the Kingfisher, but it looks a lot more like a Shoebill.
That was a missed opportunity dang lol
Not sure if you use the same camera mod as me, but it’s Hullcams if you do
Pretty sure that’s it thanks!
i love you smooney
Hey Smooney, I've been having trouble with getting Kerbinside to work and I can't find a fix for it, I'm sure I'm missing a dependency or 2.
What mod gives you all these extra landing strips around kerbin?
Looks like " Kerbin Side Remastered" - see the video description for a list of related mods too.
Kerbinside Remastered like the other commenter said, and all of the kerbinside extras I could find as well ( don’t remember off of the top of my head) should be in the list and mod pack though!

Hey, where do you get those crazy ass suits? TY!
I’m not actually sure! I think they might be slightly glitched out as well lol, I’ll reply here if I figure it out though!
Sarnus or BUST!!!
rapeor engines? doesn't that hurt them?
I believe that if you look like Valkyrie from the movie Avatar, it will work.
Bro made a BUFF 2
What’s the mod that makes the terrain all rocky?
It’s called Parallax makes the terrain itself look a lot better too!
@@smooneychad turns out I already had that mod. I’m new to the game so I just got to the mun for the first time and the terrain looked good
What mod are the engine pods from? I remember seeing a review of the mod but I dont quite remember what it was
I’m pretty sure they are from near future aeronautics lmk if that’s correct!
I thought i was watching someone with more subscribers lol
Always the best compliment to get!
do sarnus next!
Sarnus is winning by a landslide!
Build the Flare air unit from Mindustry in KSP
does anyone know which mod adds the numbers in the bottom left during flight? like the g force, mach, etc?
Looks like kerbal engineer redux, same one puts the info at the top of the screen.
I made a custom HUD with Kerbal Engineer Redux, went through and added those to it, then dragged it next to the navball so I’d have all my velocity info in the same spot! Has been REALLY handy especially the vertical speed section for landing!
Jool!
nutrients
We all need them but does anyone really want them?
Are they really "Aircraft" if they fly to space?
I define it as they can still fly/glide when they are in atmosphere, unlike something like a mun lander or interplanetary transport which is undeniably a spacecraft. Kinda both though!

Tilt wings pls.
The final version has about a 5 degree tilt (possibly more like 10)
