- I show you how to setup KOReader on your Kobo eBook Reader, I go through settings, options and how I setup the reading options, status bar and progress bar.
KOReader is a ebook launcher / UI for E Ink devices. Supported file formats include EPUB, PDF, DjVu, XPS, CBT, CBZ, FB2, PDB, TXT, HTML, RTF, CHM, DOC, MOBI and ZIP files. It’s available for Kindle, Kobo, PocketBook, Android and desktop Linux. Works great. It makes your e-reader really snappy and fast, and it adds a lot more features than it originally has.

Very helpful - thank you !
You’re welcome
Hi! I just found your channel this morning and have been watching so many of your videos the entire day. You provide a lot of in-depth information and somehow answer all my questions as I think of them while watching. I just ordered my first ereader this morning and went with the kobo clara 2e so this has been helpful in teaching me how I can customize things because I had a difficult time understanding the online forums. Your videos are amazing and thank you for all the hard work you put into your videos
I’m glad you liked them 👍🏻
Bought a Kobo Libra H2O today because I want more freedom to customize my ereader (my current ereader is a Paperwhite) :) Thank you for showing the KOReader on the exact model I got.
You’re welcome
Just found your channel. Great video tons of useful info. Thanks.
Thanks!
Finally support for goldendict dictionaries.Saved money thank you 😅
Great 👍🏻
Hi, Stefan.
If you select a whole sentence, is there any shortcuts to translate it with DeepL?
Thanks in advance!
Not what I know of. No
How do you manage to do so that the KOReader Home displays the proper title, covers and metadata, rather than author sorting without images in a simple list such as Lastname, Firstname\ ? No matter what I try, I can't seem to find the correct setting for this. It seems that you save your files in the sd/koboExtStorage/ folder. Should I move my files there?
I use the history screen as my KOReader home. History is the last books you reading or opened. You don’t have to move your books. It works the same from other folders.
Hi, Stefan. I already have a kobo with koreader, and i absolutely adore it. I use it for reading epubs and pdfs, and recently i also have been reading manga and comics in it (cbz and pdf) - better than paper for me, and for my small apartment. It turns out however that many comics (and some pdfs) have a high file size, even individually, so if i were to put my entire comic collection in there i would surpass 32 gb (which is the maximum size the original kobo system recognizes, per my brief research). But since Koreader is pretty much a paralel OS, do you know if it would recognize a higher sized SD card if i formatted the kobo again (from zero) with a new one ? Say, a 64gb, a 128gb or (why not) a 512gb sd card ? thanks for the help anyway.
Thanks for your comment. Sorry that is not any knowledge I have. I don’t have any experience of that.
@@svartling I decided to risk my hipothesis, and it was succesful. YES, Koreader works with higher sized sd cards, i used a 512gb sd card i had in my smartphone. I just had to format it in FAT32 in a single drive on my PC (linux mint), then put it on a windows pc and give permission to all users to modify files, and then insert it in my Kobo that had already koreader installed in it. Worked like a charm, and still is since a few days. Since FAT 32 has a maximum drive size of 2 terabytes, and SD cards also go up to that size, theoretically someone can go until a 2T limit.
That sounds awesome. Thank you for your valuable information
What are the options for annotating the text and exporting notes? I am using Pocketbook, which has options for highlighting, commenting, and drawing. You view and export the notes and you can clearly see the type of note, but you cannot filter the notes by type. Does Koreader have any superior options in this regard?
No it doesn’t. You can export highlights and notes but not filtering them
@@svartling Thank you! I assume Kobo offers just about the same functionality as pocketbook then, I don't know if you have any experience?
I don’t have any experience of pocketbook. I have of kobo and kindle though. And kindle is way better when it comes to that.
@@svartling Thanks! But there is no way of installing a Kindle reader to Pocketbook device is there? I've read that Koreader can be installed on Pocketbook devices, too. I don't plan on buying a new device and I don't fancy having restricted file formats and generally dislike Amazon as a company for their practices. . .
No you can’t. I don’t agree that kindle has restricted file formats though. You can use epub, kfx, azw3, mobi, pdf, txt. I don’t need more than that. I always use epub anyways. It’s so easy to wirelessly transfer epub files to my kindle.
Hi, what is your experience using koreader with other languages. I am interested in using it with Arabic and I don't know how well it will work. A feature I am particularly interested in is highlighting and making notes to aid with language learning. Also can you recommend which devises work best with koreader. Thank you very much in advance.
I have used it with Swedish and that works ok. Check the forums to see if it’s translated into your language. The best device to use with KOReader is the kobo libra H2O. But most Kobo will work but you have to wait a while for the newest kobo devices to get support.
انا استخدمته مع اللغة العربية انه جيد جداً
i have kobo libra2 but my books are not showing in KOreader...
hi, if you have previous settings and books on your kobo and installed koreader, will the setting and the read progress disappear?
You have them left on the normal ui. KOReader starts from scratch. When you install KOReader you still have your normal kobo and the new KOReader. You can still choose which to use.
@@svartling owh okay, btw how many gigabytes are used to install koreader?
Just a few megabytes. Like a large book. 30-40MB is my guess
Can you change the contrast in a pdf so the text looks bolder?
Yes you can
Does it allow you to highlight? How’s it?
Cause my kobo Clara really sucks when doing so
Yes you can highlight and even export them in different formats. But KOReader doesn’t work so good on the Clara 2E yet. It’s too new
Thank you, I’ve got the Clara HD, just installed KOReader with your tutorial and its just much better than the custom kobo software
Thanks a lot
You’re welcome
I wish there's a video of KOReader being installed on the new Clara 2E and a review of how it runs for a couple of days/weeks.
@@inigohiroki KOReader is not compatible with the new Clara 2E
For some reaosn my Table of Contents are always empty and display "No items". This causes the "Pages left in chapter" not work because KOReader doesn't understand when the chapters end and start. The Table of Contents work in the native kindle book reader though.
Are they KEPUB or EPUB? I recommend using the modify epub plugin in Calibre on every EPUB before converting them to KEPUB. Then this problem should disappear. I have videos on my channel on how to install and use those plugins in Calibre.
@@svartling Thanks for your help! I was using a Kindle Paperwhite 2 and I imported the books through Calibre and they were converted to mobi's automatically. Just pasting in the EPUB files directly into the /documents directory solved this issue for me!
MOBI is an old format that Amazon doesn’t use anymore. They use EPUB and KFX. You probably have Calibre to automatically convert all imported books to MOBI. You can change that in the settings. I still recommend to import pure EPUB into Calibre and then run Modify EPUB plugin on them ( as I show in another video), and then convert them to KEPUB (Kobo EPUB) before sending them to your Kobo e-Reader.
Can you make a new video to explain how to install KOreader on KOBO eReader, thx for your sharring
I already have and many more if you check my channel (maybe subscribe?). Especially the playlist “books”. Here is a video: How to install KOReader on your Kobo or other eReaders

what is koreader and how do i install it on windows??
I don’t believe you can install it on windows. It’s an ui for e-readers.
what is your H2O firmware and hardware version?
Why you ask?
@@svartling coz i plan on buying it.. i bought kindle only to realize that firmware 5.14 can't jailbreak to install KOReader
All libra H2O can run KOReader.
Ok thanks
Have you seen this video: How to install KOReader on your Kobo or other eReaders

The best UI far away from others ! Indispensable
At least most features. Not so user friendly though.
@@svartling spend a little time , but the gesture are great ! Is it possible to install it on,kindle , boox or pocketbook inkpad ?
I have spent many years with it :) On some old Kindle devices you can but not newer. KOReader is available on Google Play Store so you can install it on Boox devices. Pocketbook no, not what I know of.
Thanks, your tuto is the best for koreader settings,
And I just install easily the update cherry blossom with your tuto : so simple !!
I just tested other UI : boox tab mini , pocketbook inkpad 4 , I will send them back because of the UI
So you think it is possible to install koreader on the late onyx boox ? That seem to be interesting
Where can I see the cherry blossom improvement ? ( I don t see many actually )
KOReader on Boox devices is just normal android apps that you install from Google play store. So it works on all Boox devices that have Google play store. Cherry blossom is more of an under the hood update.
not one video on youtube explaining to me what is KOREADER
Don’t you see in this video that it’s a ui with more features than the normal kobo ui? That is what it is
@@svartling is it worth downloading? Can it be uninstalled?
@@amritamuggan9246 Nah I don't think so - only if you want more features like wireless transfers and so on. And you can uninstall it but it is quite hard. But you can also have it installed and not use it. It doesn't take up any space on your Kobo. You can still use your kobo as normal if you prefer.
I have kobo libra2 but my books are not showing in KOreader...
@jayantabaruah74 KOReader uses it’s own library so you have to add your books to KOReader.
Bro r u doing watch faces now ? Your collection is very nice 💥😇
Well I am enjoying making watch faces for Apple Watch at the moment. I will release my first soon:

oh no timestamps...
Blame Google/RUclips. Or maybe you have time left in your life to do them manually for me???? My time was up to make this tutorial for you for free..
@@svartling I mean if you go through the immense effort of producing such content, doing timestamp is just a grain of sand compared to what you've already done. Why not make it way easier to consume for us then ?
thanks for the video anyways
I simply don’t have the time or resources to do that. I use RUclips’s automated time stamps.
