I found your channel today! I am planning to switch to ereaders which is a tough decision for me because I want to and I also don’t want to. I need to switch because of my eyes; I’ve been getting eye strain a lot, i really want to do so as well because you can adjust the fonts and display whatnot to what my eyes are comfortable with. HOWEVER, I read and collect. I have been reading my entire life and have a huge count of books. If feel like they are friend and a testament to a journey/story I was in. Anyway all I ready wanted to say is that Ive been researching a lot and watching a lot of RUclips videos about it only to stop midway cos they aren’t as helpful to me. BUT YOURS IS STRAIGHTFORWARD but also just feels like I’m talking to a friend I trust and listening to his experiences! TLDR I just really appreciate this vid, thanks!!🎉
Thank you for your kind words. I also am like you. I like collecting books. But when I switched to ebooks I decided to make the best of it and started using Calibre software on my computer to store my ebooks in so I could fiddle with them and make them more like physical books if you know what I mean. I started to collect them and store them there. And they now also feel like my friends. I can highly recommend you to buy an e-reader. For example the kobo Clara B&W is an excellent e-reader to start with.
@@svartlingI have no idea what Calibre is- thanks for mentioning it will look it up! I will also check out kobo. As i am new to this i only have heard of kindle
Nice video! I'm a Kobo guy, having used Kobo products since the Aura HD was released. At the moment I have an Aura HD, Libra, Libra H20, Sage and the original Clara. The Clara is the one I use almost 90% due to its light weight and portability. The only other ebook readers I've tried was Sony and Boox which I didn't really like because of the user interface.
Thanks. Yes kobo makes great e-readers. They are the best. The only reason I use Android based e-readers like onyx Boox and bigme is because I can install apps from Google paid store so I can use book streaming services like Storytel, BookBeat and Nextory.
Thank you Stefan for the short & informative guide! Can you please share the name of the holder for your Clara 2e which you hold with the fingers behind. Thanks a lot!
Thanks . I am a fan of ko reader too , It is the best UI far from all ! I have it on my kobo h2o v2 and my inkpad 4 ( but this one have not a good battery ) ; how do you synchronize your reading on the ko-reader devices ? It would be nice to have a tutorial on ko-reader , there are very few on RUclips . Thanks for this video
I also loved my kobo e-reader and got around 350 books and then the font started to play up pages would sit in the middle of the page and no matter how much I changed it nothing worked in the end gave up went to kindle far superior for me anyway I’m now on the scribe it’s expensive but great
Thank you for your thoughts. I am really motivated by reading statistics, so I like the new kobo for how long spent reading a book, etc. It does not seem they have these on the android app. I have a kindle basic and love the size. Can only view (limited) stats on the app not the device. I have to use storygraph to get some attractive data. Long term i think I will move to kobo, and I fancy the clara BW. Cannot currently justify it when nothing wrong with my kindle. I also get good value from kindle unlimited.
Yes reading stats are good to have. I have even installed KOReader to get even more stats. I have a video showing that. Kindle unlimited and kindle is only good for English speaking users sadly. Kindle doesn’t have any support at all for Swedish. Kobo has.
@svartling yes I remember this from your previous video. I am English speaking native and learning Spanish as an additional language. I do find lots of Spanish graded readers on Kindle Unlimited and the flash cards are somewhat helpful for building and revising vocabulary. How is Kobo for learning extra languages (rather than just reading), does it have helpful study features ?
But if you are happy with kindle then I guess stick with it. Nothing wrong with that. Kindle just works. Kobo is a bit more tinkering and handling to get things as you want it.
Thanks! I also like the Kobo readers (have a Clara 2E and a Libra 2). Out of curiosity: Can you recommend the e-book whose cover we see in the video? :) It would be interesting to know what is currently being read in Sweden.
Well I like that book a lot. Frida Skybäck is the author and the book is Svartfågel. I think it’s her debut book. It’s a crime novel around a small town here in Sweden
Hi Stefan, Thank you for a great summery of all the devices you use! Just one question - have you tried the new Kobo Libra Colour? If so - how does it compare to the BigMe? Wish you an amazing day! Best Regards Victor
Hi. No i havent tried it but it has the same kaleido 3 screen so it is as dark as the Bigme. Bigme runs Android though so it has some benefits with that
Can you display and off screen wallpaper on palma? I also use koreader and heard it's possible, but couldn't find a way to do that. I love my palma but also like this feature of kindle or kobo. But can't go with those as I'm sure I won't use them much 😶
@@svartling that's great. Is there any tutorial for that? Or if possible, can you make a short? I'm unable to find anything regarding this on android side
Hi Stefan, I have a Kobo Clara HD 2018, and I need to update it! Which one would you suggest ? I read only Greek books and I would like to avoid Adobe Digital Editions because it doesn’t work for my computer. Thank you!!

Yes since I bought the onyx Boox Palma with a smartphone form factor I haven’t read on my phone. And my headaches and tired eyes has also stopped. Probably because of that.
lol! No you don’t understand. No ereader has 40 hours of reading time. Reading time is with display on and active reading. 40 hours or even more all my ereaders get in total before charging. But that’s with standby time included. No e-reader can have so much reading time. It’s impossible. I charge my e-readers and I have plenty at has have plenty more, about once a week or so. Depending on how much reading I have done on it.
Why anyone would buy an ereader, let alone multiple ereaders when a smartphone can handle the job is beyond me. Maybe some people just like having excess clutter. LOL
Then you don’t understand much. E- ink is like paper. Try read outside with your smartphone in direct sunlight for example. E-ink doesn’t use power until you turn the page. So basically you can leave it on on one page and never run out of battery. LCD, OLED etc uses PWM for dimming that pulsates directly in to your eyes and makes your eyes get tired and can cause headaches. E-ink doesn’t use light at all.
Then you just have to watch this video: What is the benefits using dedicated e-readers and not smartphones or tablets to read books on? ruclips.net/video/2EhKG_gcNAw/видео.html

Since they are e ink, would the color one be any less comfortable to read than a regular colorized book if you had good lighting nearby?
The “paper” will be gray instead of white.
