A Dummies Guide to ASDI and CC - Road to Melee

Road to Melee is a series to break down the game’s mechanics in a digestible way to help out the newer players but more so for ME. In this episode I'll be breaking down the knockback armor ASDI and Crouch Cancel. They are valuable tools that everyone should add to their gameplay. Even at low level, it’s easy to implement but that’s not to say it’s easy to master.

nice vid. one small error: amsah teching has a pretty big execution window. teching has a 20f window which you can input during any lag (as long as you’re not able to airdodge or shield). most of the time you’ll want to amsah tech after you whiff a laggy move so you won’t be doing the stick inputs on reaction.
the unclepunch amsah tech training is helpful, really gives you an idea of how forgiving the frame data is on teching.

If you think your punish game is weak you can compensate with platform trapping. If you keep missing shine follow ups its due to your opponents SDI inputs in which you can try to find the pattern, like are they SDI’ing out what have you. Good luck on your bird journey this shit is hard af. Cool vid

this vid and the other sdi vid finally made this shit make sense. ive had bits and pieces of sdi and asdi explained to me in the past that id try and incorporate but couldnt do it very well because i lacked a full understanding. this full explanation finally made all the pieces fit together. ty so much, stay goated

If you press down on the cstick while crouch cancelling wouldn't a down smash come out? Or does it mean you should react to getting hit while crouching and during the hitstun you also hold down on the cstick?

The second part of your comment is right. The ASDI will only occur during hitstun. So as soon as you get hit while crouching you should react with a c-stick down. Also the c-stick and control stick can't be going the same direction or else the ASDI won't take effect. I briefly talk about at 5:20. Now looking back I should've been clearer about this in the video. If you're still confused or have other questions feel free to ask!
