I remember starting out with a Murray, sooo heavy! In 1983 upgraded to a Schwinn Predator. It wasn't a GT, Kuwahara, or a PK Ripper, but made this 7 yr old happy! Itasca, Lombard, and Funway were the tracks in the Chicago area. Great video!
I have no idea why I'd remember this, but I think mine was a P2600. It's was lower end, but not the bottom. It had aluminum rims, not Z-Rims or mags. Didn't have a 3 piece crank, I added that later lol. Z-Rims... Haven't thought of those in 40 yrs! Weren't they plastic, or some kind of injected nylon, rims. If I remember, they were heavier than aluminum, but wouldn't get bent or something. That's one way to start my day hahaha!
I never raced. I was a neighborhood shredder. Back then, I believed only rich kids raced bmx because I thought you needed top of the line bikes to race.
That’s what we all thought back then. Riding endless wheelies was a must. My Schwinn moto-cross was retrofitted by me with the help of some friends. I used a pre-stingray frame with a stingray crank. Stingray cranks are larger than the junk Schwinn made before Stingrays. Double clamp goose neck with cross bar handle bars is what made it tough enough to be called moto-cross. With a pad on the cross bar riding double was comfortable. My build was one of a kind. These factory BMX’s cost too much for a bike most out grew. I mostly parked the 20” Schwinn when a got a 26” Raleigh 10 speed. In the Mid 80’s I got a 26” mountain bike that I still have.
I rode an FMF and then an LRV. Made into the top 50 in AZ 1when I was 12 and called it quits after that. I tried getting back into it when I was 16 but wasn't competitive any longer. So much fun. We raced 5 days a week in the summer and ran a team of 4 squads, 4 riders each. My dad coached the team.
The video has to be from the very early 80s. Too many things in this video indicated to me that this was from the very early days BMX. Every national I attended looked way more organized than what they are saying are the nationals in Rockville. It's awesome that someone posted this, but I wish we specifically knew what year it was.
I wanted to do this so bad back in the day, but my parents were never supportive of any of my interests. I have a lot of resentment about my childhood.
Huhh? @5:08, the black kid (2nd place) looks like he's 12 years old, and the white guy (1st place) looks like he's 18 y/o?? Is this the only way a white guy can beat a black in sports?
Actually the twelve-year-old black kid raced 12-year-olds on a different motoAnd the 15-year-old raced in a different moto 15-year-oldsPeriod but when it comes to a state or national race you don't have to race against each other to see who takes first and second placeRemember you have qualifier runs and then the main
I remember the 80s at school the bike racks were full of bikes now empty n ourbmx track was always full of people just like this especially Saturdays now just sad empty overgrown space with graffiti
Not our track. Where I race is open 3 days and a lot of riders. Ages from 2 years old with balancing bikes all the way to the oldest being 72 and I'm 54

Scott Baio doing the narration

@@W4MBU I don't have insurance. Probably wouldn't be a good idea for me.
@@chaseme9860 never have the hunting question of, what if? Never let ANYTHING be an obstacle. Hope you do it 1 day.
I knew it was Chachi!
Reminds of the final scene of E.T.
BMX LOVES CHACHI
"the trophies are big" yeah, and they meant you won!
I think the narrator is Scott baio
What year is this from?
How old are these kids? Maybe 12-15 years?
5:30 Nigel Silvester boy
3:30 WHAT A STRONG GIRL WAS THAT💪 RESPECT TO THIS WOMAN!
She's says, "They boys, they're NOT stronger than me, and they CAN beat me." Confused statement?
Blatent prejudice ...? The kids 5 ! lol
Is it Chachi narrating?
