    I cannot recommend this video enough. I was quoted by an Apple approved "Specialist" £600 pounds to replace what they said would be the back panel, battery and keyboard. They said that its because components are "welded" to the chasis.
    I think what they meant to say was that there's double-sided tape and a few screws.
    £40 for a new battery from Ebay (Official Apple part) and 45 minutes of time going very carefully.
    You are an absolute legend thank you so so much.

    Awesome video. Helped me change my battery, and everything worked perfectly. Word of caution, though… When removing the old battery, absolutely do NOT bend the old battery. I bent one of them too much, and it literally caught on fire for a second and then started smoking for a while after. And then I bent another one on the other side, and it started smoking as well. So just be very careful. But other than that, everything went perfectly and this video was fantastic! Thank you!

    Your relaxed walk-through inspires confidence that makes the replacement easier. For the adhesive I use the edge of the Spudger which I dampen with a paper towel soaked in Isopropyl Alcohol. This ensures no liquid spillage while getting it to the leading edge where it's needed.

  • @mikesmultimedia

    Your video was the most informative and straight forward. Thanks. I changed the battery. BUT!!!! what was not mentioned in your video was how you have to be REALLY CAREFUL sliding your pry tool under the center batteries to get them off. I unfortunately must have pry too hard, and my tool slipped into the small square holes under the batter leading to the back of the trackpad electronics. So, after reconnecting, my trackpad AND keyboard both don't work. Fortunately, I am working around this by using an external BT keyboard and a logitech mouse via USB dongle.
    Perhaps I may have not connected that ribbon cable properly? Could this be the reason why both my keyboard and trackpad are not working afterward?
    Or is it because the PRAM or SMC is off because of the battery replacement?
    Hopefully is is not a damage issue, and maybe the ribbon cable or the memory.
    Any suggestions?
    Oh, I also just bought your 9 in 1 disassemble tool kit from your website.
    Thanks.

      @@MatthewChenIsAwesome honestly, my A1707 15" MacBookPro is suffering from the cable gate issue involving a monitor ribbon cable defect causing these and other models to blackout the screen when lid is opened past 45°.
      A class action lawsuit against Apple on this issue was filed, and Apple managed to get that case sent back down to the original court. Aintiffs are revising their lawsuit and plan to refine it. Apple already agreed to provide free fix ($600) for the 13 inch macbooks. But not for the 15 inch models for some reason.
      So. To answer your question. No. No I have not put any more effort into this computer other than to get it up and running and able to function is to function enough for me to use with with the lid partially open. My battery is still OK. I watched your video to see how to access the fans. I'm sure mine need cleaning after hundreds of hours of use.
    I was taught that it is important to restrain the fan blades from spinning to avoid unnatural forces damaging the fan bearings. I don't understand how that could really be a problem but I still do it out of respect for my instructors. Also because of superstition - I don't want to change my luck. : - )

      keeping inside the unit clean and free of dust will definitely increase the laptop life, air circulation and keeping the unit cool can means between having major issues such as gpu failure or not having one, i think cleaning the fans using antistatic brush is a good thing to do as regular maintenance, depending on the environment your using it can range from every 6 months to every 5 years... no need to remove the fans but if you can that is a plus.. good luck

    I have replaced the battery. It is displayed with "coconut battery" also with 100% power. Unfortunately, I have the feeling that everything has become extremely slow on my MacBook due to the exchange. In addition, unfortunately, the touchpad and the mouse pointer no longer works. Please urgently for your help to my problems! Thank you very much:)

      Yes you can totally install the battery without making the battery adhere to the top case, although we do not recommend this!

      Re check everything you did, and if everything looks ok than disconnect the battery and reconnect then connect you charger just to make sure the battery is fully charger. next try resting you SMC. link is below

      i guess the answer is battery and logic board.

  • @linzkirk
    @linzkirk 2 месяца назад

    Great Vid, Very clear and great you did it without removing the logic board. Apple seem to go out of their way to make this tricky Battery's do not need to be held in with adhesive. A small plastic frame with screws and not running cables under the logic board would make it a 5 min job. Like the MacBook air of this era.
    Well they won't be able to do it much longer with new EU relations, all laptop batteries need to be user replaceable in 2027.
    So I feel brave enough to do mine after watching this. But it still won't solve all the issues with this hideous laptop, speakers cut out at high volume (reboot solves it), keyboard keys stick, flex gate issue and faulty USB ports. This was a bad run of products for apple, Their arrogance made them refuse to see what customers really want. At least now they have listened, gone back to scissor mechanism keyboard and MagSafe with more ports and dropped the obsession with trying to make the macbook pro thinner.

      Hey Charon, apple recommend changing battery when it hit 1000 cycle, but i seen battery's that works just perfect even at 2000cycle, it depends on the environment you been using you laptop but however if your not getting much of battery life than you may want to have it changed by a technician or change it your self if your conformable doing the repair, battery's we sell are very low cycle and we sell new one as well, here is a link

      Thanks you, most people with common sense and some research can get the battery changed done safely, No bending, No Sharp Objects, No Poking, No Heating... And Make make sure you discharge the battery by letting the laptop stay on until turns off due to low battery before starting the battery swap. Good luck

    @TEKDEP A technician at the apple Genius Bar told me he can’t replace the battery without replacing the top case, that the battery is connected to the keyboard etc. is this true..? He said he would charge me 700 for a top case and 200 for a battery replacement. (Sounds like a lie) I have a MacBook Pro 15 inch A1707

    So how do you know when the battery is finally “bad?”..my screen has gone black but the unit still lights up..can it be a dead battery?

    • @tekdep
      @tekdep  2 года назад +1

      Screen is black that can't be the battery, if your laptop is staying on but no image than the issue can be simple as the lcd flex cable or as bad as the logic board or the lcd backlight it self, next thing you need to connect your laptop to a external lcd using hdmi and see if you can get it to work that way and post the update here and ill be happy to help with next step.

    • @MrFerron
      @MrFerron Год назад +1

      You can find used one on eBay, many advertise new batteries to be original but you can’t trust that as most are counterfeit since Apple do not sell batteries to general public, can’t really find new apple batteries on the market unless your an authorized repair shop that can get it off Apple directly , or just have Apple fix the battery if you certainly want original one, otherwise you can find aftermarket batteries that match quality on tekdep.com
