Anxiety is honestly a great antagonist, because she wants what is best for Riley, but always instead pushes people away and starts even pushing herself to the breaking point
What makes Anxiety (who thinks more about the future) a great antagonist is she is just like Joy(who use to be an embodiment of toxic positivity from the first movie). Both emotions of Riley thinks what is best for her as her puberty has grown and she becomes a teenager. In the end, both have come to accept of letting Riley go so she can be her own person. Being a teenager who wants to be a part of the social group like her hockey team is a vert relatable topic. My hope for Inside Out 3 is Pixar can delivered a coming of age story where we explored Riley’s journey to becoming a young adult while trying to maintain her childlike qualities.
That's something I can relate. As a University student, I get anxious about exams and essays with a fear of whether or not I passed it. Of course I do get a mixed of Cs and Bs. Even I tried to make a good impression to myself on whether I am trying to make new friends or impressed a girl that I liked/met.

I remember when I saw this in theaters with my mom, it was uncanny how many scenes I could relate to that were including Anxiety and things related to that. I’m not one for Disney movies, but I can proudly and confidently say that I loved this movie.
I wish Embarrassment, Envy, and Ennui were fleshed out more and shown how harmful they could be if they go overboard, like Anxiety. Riley could be scared of embarrassing herself by messing up during practice, thus no longer wanting to do anything that would put her in an uncomfortable situation and losing motivation. Or have an embarrassing situation that hinders her confidence. Riley could have felt envious that her friends were going to the same school without her and envious of how good Val is (rather than only admiring her), thus making her want to be better at hockey and make new friends. Ennui could be Riley giving up- she no longer has interest in hockey after all the stress she is going through
That's a complaint that comes back pretty often, but from a professional who's been working in the animation industry for 15 years, I can tell you that this is mission impossible in a 90 minutes long movie, especially if the whole point of the movie is to showcase how anxiety can be destructive. How do you do that if the 5 core emotions have the most screentime, and anxiety has to compete with 3 other new emotions introduced in this movie to share screentime with ? Especially if the main duality is Joy vs Anxiety. Writing a satisfying plot respecting the original idea while introducing a brand new team and keeping the whole thing balanced, all in 90 short minutes is not as easy than just having a wishlist. Just watch the Avengers movies, where you've got 30 main characters or their own movies sharing a mere couple of minutes of screentime in the ensemble movie. What you wish for would be more fit for a series of 9-10 episodes, where each episode could focus on each emotion.
Okay for those who are all upset over the fact that Inside Out 2 isn’t as fantastical as the first film, wake up! We’re in the chaotic mind of a teenage girl, not a little kid anymore. Everything is being torn apart and rearranged, the world around her is far less appealing to her than it was when she was barely in her double digits. Stop trying to downplay this film because it wasn’t as bright and pretty as the first film. The world becomes a lot more grim and down to Earth when you hit this stage of your life. Audiences find anything they can to complain about stuff, I swear…
Sounds like excuse for poor screenplay cause the prevalent theme of Inside Out 2 is about anxiety (ex Dark secret scene is drag out that didn't see contrast to Riley). That's like saying Fury Road is about madness; doesn't mean the script have to be tunnel vision on it.
For me it was worse than first but still a great movie of modern pixar. And you know there isn't a perfect movie, when you give something a constructive criticism the person who created it can learn from it
honestly, I think that actually not making this an emotion but rather a result of the emotions working together well, when it comes to a positive view of being calm and logical/ thinking reasonably, would be better. Also we have Enui! which is a great way to portray depression/negative version of thinking reasonably; if for some reason enui would take everything over and lock everyone away then you'd be left "feeling nothing" and only relying on reason for your actions! At least that's how I think it would make more sense but thats just my own idea!
While watching the movie (i didn't give Disney a peny) i was so close to crying almost every scene, the anxiety attack and overthinking was so relatable. Also how Joy had to accept that Riley is growing and won't be the same as she was before, broke my heart, it's like watching your siblings grow and change. So yeah, a beautiful movie with a great storyline.
Velma was absolutely horrendous when it comes to depicting these attacks, it is absolutely insulting how a kiss actually stops the attack, when in reality it would cause even worse problems

He basically is shadowing Puss throughout the movie because he's there to remind Puss how much he has squandered his previous lives, like they didn't mean anything but a way to cheat death. Note that Death breaks off from his fight from Puss at the end because Puss understood how much value his life had, and when Death departs, Puss acknowledges he will see him again, but no longer views him as an adversary.

He didn't want to teach him a lesson or make him appreciate life, he just wanted to take away the last life Puss had left, hence why almost every time he appears it's in a situation where Puss is in danger, and there is no indication that he appears to other people when they're in danger; he's actively waiting for the moment he has to take Puss away. You could argue Death is just doing his job, but his job doesn't involve making people see him when they're close to death, and it definitely doesn't involve killing people directly like he tries to do with Puss on several occasions. All of his actions throughout the movie are those of a villain, but just because he didn't kill Puss in the end does not mean he's not a villain, it just means he has honor. He wanted to kill Puss because of how arrogant he was, but when he saw how much Puss had changed, he didn't see any justification for killing him at that point, which is why he was frustrated.

He was more of a test for Puss to deal with - he made no secret that he was after Puss because he felt that he had arrogantly wasted his previous lives and he had no value because he saw them as more of a get out of jail free card when he was going to die. Pay close attention to his conversations with Puss - even when they were fighting at the Wishing Star, Death was convinced Puss would take the wish to get nine more lives to waste. When he rages in Spanish, it's because he's not fighting a coward who wanted to run away from responsibilities, but someone who grew a spine and came to terms to cherish the life he had.

Compared to an antagonist like Anxiety who doesn't WANT to cause harm, and believes even her worst actions are for good cause and merely a means to a neccessary end, Death, by his own admission, lost track of his own agenda because he was enjoying being a dick too much. Petty gratuitous cruelty is often one of the key characteristics that separates a villain from an antagonist.

I actually didn’t really love this move. I saw it in cinema with my friend after exams and we talked about these new emotions and couldn’t really understand the point of them. Now I’m thinking that it may be because of polish translation. For example ennui is translated as simply “nuda”meaning boredom and anxiety is called “obawa” meaning a slight fear. This kind of didn’t make sense as we had fear already and I couldn’t understand its point as it acted kind of like a mash up of all original emotions but with too much sugar😂. Now I want to see the movie again with English dubbing and maybe now it will flow better. Still I find the pacing a bit crazy and I wish they put Riley in a camp for more than two days as it all feels too rushed even for a teenager emotions. Edit: embarrassment is called “Wstyd” which indicates something more like shame and envy in polish translation is called “zazdrość” which indicates a bit more negative aspect like jealousy. So there is definitely a problem with translation since in Poland our words for feelings have these slightly different meanings that really change the way in which we see the characters. There was no other way to translate these names really but it will bug me for a long time 😢
i just hate the german translation in the dub is "regret", it doesnt make sense lol to be fair, i understand it as to get it synchronised. But itd probably been better to just keep the english name and people would figure the meaning if not capable of english

logic/reason aren't really categorized as emotions. They are thought of as the opposite generally.
