Shine Your Light So Others May See

- “The Savior’s call to “shine our light” is a call to intentionally focus our light to help others see their next step forward to come to Christ,” says Bonnie H. Cordon, Young Women General President.
In her April 2020 general conference address, Sister Cordon shares a childhood experience when Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was hosted by her family on their farm in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and how she learned to be more effective in helping others find their way in unknown territory.
When Elder Perry offered to help her feed the chickens one night, she eagerly led the way through the dark night while swinging her flashlight. But she failed to realize that the light wasn’t helping him. Not knowing the terrain, he stepped into an irrigation ditch, soaking his leather shoe in mud.
On their return to the house after feeding the chickens, Elder Perry reminded the young Sister Cordon that he needed to see the light.
“I was shining my light, but not in a way that helped Elder Perry,” Sister Cordon said. “I focused the light just ahead of his steps. We returned home in confidence.”
“The call to shine our light is not an invitation to wave our light to make the world generally brighter,” she says. “It is about focusing our light so others may see their way to Christ ... to be more intentional in helping others see their next step forward.”

"This invitation is not just about randomly waving a beam of light and making the world generally brighter. It is about focussing our light so that others may see the way to Christ".

Nothing impossible with God. Amen
.
To Josefina, you are quoting Luke 1:37.
It was great to hear this personal anecdote told again. And whoever played L. Tom Perry, he really nailed his voice and way of speaking. It warmed my heart!
What a great story, and a spot-on impression of Elder Perry. I miss that great Apostle!
Awww, the L. Tom Perry portrayal was a welcome and accurate surprise. We miss him!
Thank you for your beautiful story. Sometimes it is hard to shine our light but we each bear our own testimonies that can help others.
I loved this. It touched my heart, this simple message seemed like it was for me. Sometimes it’s hard to get my head out of my needs and focus on others as the Savior did.
So say we all.

Such a cute way to portray this story!
It is.
Herewith we are appreciative of those engaged in the filmmaking as they in fact focus their light just ahead, being more intentional so we (myself at least) can now see our next move forward …
Thank you sister The message has arrived.
God bless you and bless all planet with his light and mercy.
Thank you for this reminder to shine our light in a way that directs others to Christ and His covenant path.
This is a beautiful story with a beautiful message, thank you Sister ❤️
Thank you Sister Cordon!
I love to hear the stories of other lives. This is wonderful thank you Sister Bonnie for sharing.
Great story sister Cordon! Hope you and Bishop are doing great!
Thank you for this inspiring personal experience and "invitation to let my light shine so others may see the way to Jesus Christ!" This has touched my heart!
What a beautiful message!
When the actor playing Elder Perry first started talking I was like, "It's really him!" Excellent work.
And he shook the water & mud off his fine leather shoes and treked on, just like Elder Perry did as a Marine! I continue to be inspired by his teachings and videos.
I love this story.
AMEN HALLELUJAH SISTER!! MAY THE PEACE OF GOD BE UPON THEE TODAY, TOMORROW, AND FOR ETERNITY!! LOVE Y'ALL AND GOD BLESS Y'ALL AND ALL Y'ALL'S FAMILIES IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY AMEN!!
I love this story. I love the way children think and preceive life. Showing the light of Christ through love. What a joyful thought.
Very grateful for this illustration of how we can improve our efforts to help one another along the path to the greater peace and joys of eternal life with God! ❤️
What a lovely and inspiring Story. Thanks for sharing it.

This is precious❤
Bonnie is a delight ❤️
Many great lessons here, besides the obvious one. She had an amazing mother who taught her work ethic and compassion, even when it meant missing out. And great compassion on the part of Elder Perry.
A Great and Useful Lesson.
Excellent example of respecting one another in society.
Very beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. 🙏🏻✝️💖
Thank you for reminding us to shine bright so that others can find the way!
Is it your light that shines forth?
I hope the Church produces more, elaborations, of conference talks like this one. Thank you.
Thank you Sister Cordon for sharing your touching story with us. It reminded me of how much I miss my neighbor L. Tom Perry and his radiant personality. He was a giant of a man, both physically and spiritually. When he was depicted in the video as shaking the water & mud off of his fine shoes, I could envision a flashback of him in my mind, of Elder Perry as a younger man, dressed in his U.S. Marine’s uniform and keeping his bright & shiny black boots meticulously polished in the proper Marine tradition. Thank you for the heartwarming memory of my friend, and may Elder Perry’s light continue to shine down upon us as well.
Thank you for your comment!
I love that Elder Perry still needed the light.
Halleluijah Amen🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you.
Beautiful analogy.
I loved this experience and I have renewed my determination to focus my light for the benefit of others.
Beautiful analogy, Thank you for forgetting to feed the chickens so many could be blessed by your sharing. 💖
What a great story, thank you for sharing kari scott
I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior
Thanks, Godbls 🙏😍
Wow, just a couple days ago, Missionaries from my ward came to my house, and invited me and my family to share the gospel with someone..and I prayed just last night to find someone who I can teach! Thank you!!
The picture of Jesus Christ at the end made me start crying because I was overflowing for my savior.
Great story and a great invitation 😀
I love Elder L. Tom Perry.
Praise the Light of Lord with Tribute
This woman came to our fsy conference in denmark. I was struck by her kindness and genuity
Ilovethis!!!🤩
Was wonderful seeing this video and love the publications the church places out there.
God bless you
When I was a young kid in Montana I was tasked with doing chores for our chickens, cows, horse and hogs. On nights the moon was bright I would turn the yard light off. Though the moon is compared to the terrestrial light, it lit my way. I am grateful for parents wise enough to give me chores and I was and am grateful for the light of the moon.
Hey, random question about that-- did you feed those animals at night too?
I live in Florida and have had chickens for about a year (so I still feel new to this). Did you feed them early in the day but it was already dark because the sun set earlier in the day? Or is that a thing (that chickens eat before they go to sleep) and I'm not aware?
Sorry, I know the video's not about this AT ALL, haha! I just saw your comment and was like, "Ooh!! This person will know!!!"
@@EowynG191, we fed the chickens in the morning. If you have a yard outside the chicken coup they will eat insects and you will not be able to buy eggs that will be that healthy. Good luck to you.
Hey @@nolanbowen8800 I just saw your response. Thanks! :)
Oh yes, I remember this talk.
What a wonderful message and a great depiction of this story!
Matthew 22:37-40.
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord, thy God, with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind(the Triáda). This is the first and the greatest commandment.
"And the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. Upon these hang all the law and the prophets." The Lord has given us simple and beautiful truths.
Try the King James version.
I love it made my day 😊🙂🥰
Beautiful. ❤️
I loved this! I felt like this message was for me. It made me remember and realized that I should also look unto others, their state, situations, be more understandable and not just focusing unto myself. Thank you for this message really worth to hear ❤️
Walk in the light
What a wonderful man
I have never met genuine kind people as I have in that church
Thank you Josie, and we could use more genuine kind people like you. Seek out our Missionaries in your area to learn more.
The path is not always easy to see indeed!
Really good mensaje
Hallalujah
Amei graças e paz 👏👏💐
Wonderfull!!
This honest & transforming testimony is a brilliant analogy to the light of Christ. As others have echoed Sister Cordon's statement:"The call to shine our light is not an invitation to wave our light to make the world generally brighter",(she says), Now that, right there, is a heed & pondering moment to meditate on the significance of her comment! Further she states: "it is about focusing our light so others may see their way to Christ"This is a transforming eye opener, if you get it, & live it out! ... Sister Cordon, then adds: "to be more intentional in helping others see their next step forward"~I love that! This is a soft & beautiful way to describe the element in illuminating Christ's likeness in us for others to see Him, the light & way. Absolutely Wonderful segment & share! I appreciate it.
You have misquoted this authority.
That's awesome
Glory to god almighty
Chickens that eat “while it’s very dark outside” is a miracle. It’s a first.
Fantastic story! We have chickens and can relate somewhat to this example. Thank you for reminding us to seek to follow the Savior’s light.
"Can't the chickens fast for just one night?" EPIC!
♥️♥️♥️
Be a good example to others.
Schysst godhet och undervisning.
Ja ❤️
My husband and I were exploring an underground river last week and I thought of this. He would shine his flashlight behind himself so I could see my way through the uneven path, however, at times he would inadvertantly shine it into my eyes. I couldn't see anything but the light. I guess we should be careful not to shine our light at people but on the path.
The chickens to fast 😹😭 omg I love Bonnie ahahahahah 💅❤️
Amen 🕯️😇
Love the video they made for this story!
💙💖💖
Amen 🙏 hallelujah
Yes. It's nice to have light, but what good is it to anyone else if we hog it all to ourselves? Everyone needs the opportunity to have a more clear path to make more informed decisions 💛🌻
Who’s light is it that is being shined? Ours? Or is it the Lords light that is within us?
The video showed her sharing her flashlight.
@@josephward6422 The light of Jesus Christ is given to those who seek it. They can share that light with the rest of the world.
❤️
How often do we make time to ponder our everyday experiences in life to learn lessons like these?
These lessons are taught to us every day of our lives, but we have to be in tune with the Spirit to see the message that is there to help us.
Cool story, bro.
❤️❤️❤️
Я тебя люблю Иисуса и Бога
Я обожаю эту песню
I'm scared. I'm not endowed yet, i don't think i can survive while shining the truth.
Borg, “Resistance is futile!”
You can do it! Focus on each day one at a time. Jesus said "take no thought for the morrow." And rely on people who care about you (including your church leaders).
Learn then to stand with others who have the light, and your collective light shall protect each of you as you share with the world. Remember also that our loving Heavenly Father will never give us a task that we are not able to complete. And endowment is a worthy goal, but it is not riquired for your light to shine brightly!
look at her big smile
👍
Jesus said; "I speak not of myself but as the Father has taught me." I understand this and I speak only as taught by the Holy Spirit as written in the word of God. This means we breath and live by the word of God as revealed to us by the H.S. Satan, in the beginning questioned what God had said and hat caused our first parents to sin and die spiritually thus sin passed on all mankind and there is a new birth by Spirit and water as explained to Nicodemus.
He was a sweety, L Tom perry.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, please make a video disapproving of RUclips hiding the number dislikes on a video. Even though RUclips is a private site and you can choose to show the number of dislikes, it’s one of the biggest platforms for media and RUclips needs to know that it’s content creators are in favor of letting their audience speak for themselves.
Thank you for reading.
Sounded like Elder Perry...
What deos St. Paul have to say?
"11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression".
1 Timothy 2:11-14 (KJV)
Yeah sometimes is better to show up a good testimony instead of sharing the gospel too much, good people is the ones that help and support the others even the people that used to be enemies might you help, show up a best path to them! That's more meaningful than preach sometimes!
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
-Epicurus
We call him God because Satan is the liar.
Those are some good questions. Sometimes it takes years to get answers.
What is this religion?
Hi there @Paul Booth, thanks for your question. This video is from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In case you are interested, here is some clarity on our somewhat lengthy name: First, we are christians and center our lives on following Jesus Christ. Second, we believe a saint is any believer and follower of Jesus Christ; someone who shares His love and serves others, not a perfect person or someone that should be worshipped. You may be interested to know the term "saint" is used in 98 verses of the Bible, including several times by Paul addressing converts and ordinary members of Christ's Church. The term "latter-day" refers to saints who live not in Biblical times, but in modern days-- the time preceding the second coming of Jesus Christ. We hope that helps answer some of your questions. You can learn more about the Church's name here: www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/1990/04/thus-shall-my-church-be-called?lang=eng
I thought i heard this from another guy
is there any evidence that a god exists?
Yes. The Holy Ghost.
Bounteous evidence of God's existance surrounds us every day if we only but open our eyes to see it. Pray earnestly to our Heavenly Father and He will manifest his existance to you. If you'd like more information and some discussion to help you see God's light, please contact the LDS Missionaries near you. Praying for you, with love.
There’s no actual scientific evidence . Just people stating their experiences and thinking that you should 100% take their word for it.
