I swear to god, I remember that airing like late at night, then just stopped airing without a word. I spent years trying to find it, wondering if it even existed or it was just a show child me had just made up or was remembering wrong.
God me too!! I'm so glad to have found it, I've thought about this show consistently for a couple of years now but didn't know how I could even start looking, what would I have even googled? "Weird experimental kung fu cartoon from the 2000s whose artstyle resembles the grafitti I saw on every street corner and google wallpaper at the time"? As if that narrows it down at all hahaha
Chop Socky’s art style an colour / lighting palette reminds me of the background and NPC designs for the Little Big Planet games. And totally agree, that art style is sick, it’s a shame there weren’t any series I know of that replicated or utilised the same style as well.
I remember it well enough to know, I thought it was ok as a kid, didn’t watch it a lot, then again I just watched whatever was on at the time, so I don’t think it actually played that much anyway.
IKR! This just feels too surreal. But seeing how Pan is talking about it it makes it less surreal as I’m so used to him talking about obscure shows and movies.
I thought I imagined this show until pan made this video, I try to look this show up online a while ago and I couldn't find anything about it to save my life.
Fun Fact: The buck tooth, slant eyed, round glasses Japanese character comes from roots in WW2 Propaganda. That Japanese guy is a caricature of Hideki Tojo, the Japanese Prime Minister at the time. "Tojo" became a slur against the Japanese for this reason.
@@nullno3722 I didn't quote Tojo. I gave a fun fact about where the most infamous Japanese stereotype in animation comes from. At 6:30 Pan puts up a clip from an old propaganda cartoon from WW2 or shortly thereafter. That's why I prefaced the whole thing with "Fun Fact"
1-800-buttermycrops I mean you shouldn’t really bust it out in polite company (people might look at you confused and vaguely disgusted), but “Jap” held on far longer as an obvious dig at Japanese people. “Tojo” had its brief period in and around WW2 because of the political association to PM Tojo. It’s still a Japanese name, so it’s not exactly something that’ll stay offensive for very long.
I remember thinking the designs were ugly back then, but can appreciate them now. I think living through the early, EARLY years of CG cartoons conditioned me to thinking they're ugly and always would be.
Finally someone acknowledges this show's existence. I remember seeing it back in the day and it falling into obscurity because nobody talked about it. Next time, you should check out Hero 108 or The Secret Saturdays or some of the other forgotten Cartoon Network shows
Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember The Secret Saturday's had promotions for the show that lasted for a solid 2-3 years before actually airing the show. The first year of promotions were only accessible on the internet on their website. The show itself was tight though.
Omg, imagine a world where all anime looked like this and people were just as fanatical/defensive about it? What a strange alternate reality I've created.
That is so cute and strangely wholesome. I can relate to that mixed feeling of shame and gratefulness when parents try to do something nice for you, but just couldn't get it right.
I've always seen it and it's sequel stocked in EB Games but never played it. I might give it a chance if the devs remade it and released it on modern consoles.

Bro this is legit like a repressed memory. Every once in a while I would have weird flashbacks to this show but I never remembered the name of the show or the characters or frankly anything about it but seeing this video the memories just came flooding back. What a weird time that was.
"Who watched Skunk Fu?" Bored 00s kids who had way too much free time and spent most of it in front of the TV - so basically, all of your audience, Pan :B Now, "who REMEMBERS Skunk Fu" is a much more interesting question to raise, because before you mentioned it on this video, I've only seen it mentioned in furry circles - skunk furry circles, specifically. ;P
I only remember one scene from it, but not the name of it. Something along the lines of the snake saying he can only smell with his mouth open, and the skunk spraying his mouth making the snake pass out. This was a mid 2000’s kids show, potty and toilet humor is to be expected.
Coming from someone over here in britain, I remember this very fondly and would watch it all the damn time I always compare the wii games rabbids go home and de blob to this when trying to describe the artstyles and like no one knows what im talking about lmao
This show reminds me of how cartoons of the early 2000s have thick outlines. A forgotten art style, and a vibe that would probably never be seen again.
I remember feeling like that about the 80s in the 90s, but then I was a kid in the 90s and my grandma had a large collection of taped Saturday morning cartoons from the 80s.
The minute I heard “Skunk Fu” my eyes lit up, that show was my JAM as a child! And there was even a time before that when I was a huge “Sushi Pack” fan, now that’s a show I wish got more coverage!
Yeah I just thought about sushi pack earlier (I was a big fan) and I had all the characters as plushies. I had a distinct memory of the last time I watched Sushi pack while staring at the credits not knowing it would be the last time I ever saw it
"Who remembers Skunk-Fu?" Well, I didn't until a few minutes ago. Thanks, Pan. Man, imagine my surprise when I thought Kung-Fu Panda got a cartoon and then it turned out to be that.
@@BradRLee Yeah, but that was way later. I might be wrong, but I think Skunk-Fu came out a bit after the first Kung-Fu Panda movie, while the CGI cartoon came out some time after the second one.
I'd bet you it's a result of some internal rendering software that only existed in-industry. I swear I saw loads of stuff looking like this around this time.
It's a bit late, but because I keep getting notifications, I want to give some background: I grew up in Hawaii where in public schools, casual racism is hot amongst kids. Nothing violent, just kids yelling put slurs because it was funny. The slurs however, would get really obscure. Like, names that were originated before Hawaii became a state (I blame my Hawaiian studies teacher :p). The most obscure slur for Chinese people are Pah Keh, which no one outside of my elementary school uses.
just like to mention a big plot hole that was never really addressed: how the hell does nobody recognize them when they're off the clock from their hero work? I mean they don't even wear masks or anything, their faces are completely exposed and yet the moment they put a hat on, it's like they become entirely different people.
You'd be surprised. Superman gets away with a suit and glasses, and that in and of itself is enough to throw off many people's perception when comparing bland Daily Planet employee Clark Kent to the larger than life image of Superman, because Superman wouldn't be able to just put on a suit and glasses and act meek to hide all of that, right? There's even a joke that Lex Luthor is aware of the resemblance, but he refuses to believe that Superman would ever lower himself to the level of Clark Kent because the idea is just too ludicrous to him.
It really depends on the size of the world in question. Even irl there are people who find lookalikes of themselves just because of the sheer amount of PEOPLE that exist.
This show was gods gift to earth, I used to watch this as a kid and holy hell it was banging! I remember in the Swedish Dub that the afro dude swore once, arguably the best time of my life.
What the hell, i just remembered this show exists the other day lol. PS: Skunk Fu is also under appreciated imo PPS: anyone remember Sushi Pack? Some woman at a car boot sale gave me a free giant plushie of the green guy years ago which I no longer have. I’ve never even seen the show, I was just browsing her wares and she just like comes up to me and handed it to me and was like “here take this”.
"The UK doesn't get offended" Literally anytime an American makes fun of their accents, their response is to make jokes about ppl dying from mass shootings and/or lack of health care.
I would rather get injured in a mas shooting in a mall then die because of I can afford health care than have the worst accent in word so it doesn't bother me
There’s something so funny about how you used to be sponsored by things like Audible and now you’re sponsored by a ball shaving service. Honestly it fits you the best out of any of them
I remember watching this show alongside Hero 108, I really liked it. My dad thought Wasabi was an alien instead of a piranha fish. I think we argued about it when we were watching the Christmas episode of it. Good times.
Hey, if Xiaolin Chronicles was able to get a mediocre reboot rolling, this show deserves one more shot to shine with a reboot with actual effort. I always thought it deserved more love than it got, and it was gone far too soon.
As an Asian american I wouldn't say I personally am offended but I can definitely see why anybody would be since it seems like the show, like a lot of other shows (from this decade especially) think the entirety of Asian is one country. Like how almost every character's names just seem to be just random Chinese and Japanese words are just fumbled together or how a presumably Chinese character painting the eye of a Japanese Daruma simple stuff like this is really noticeable if you know what you're looking at,It would be like a Brazilian Character celebrating Cinco De Mayo.I wouldn't say its overtly racist more so extremely ignorant, but nothing new at the end of the day.
Ok no ... I am gonna stop you there ..they don't think Asia is one country .It's just fictional place in the show . These characters are chickens at the end of the day , not even Asian humans. They are just fictional characters with Asian inspiration when it comes to fighting style . It doesn't take place in Asia. It's like me , a Romanian, being angry at vampire shows cause it's stereotypical or it does not even take place in Romania, when the whole point of those shows is to have a vampire and not to honour my country . Same for this show , it's just a gimmick based on action films .How is it ignorant . When I was a kid and I watched this show ,I thought it was badass. I never even thought it had asiatic inspirations lmao
@@dragonbullets2763 Yeah,I'm aware theyre chickens and that it doesn't literally take place in Asia. Taking inspiration isn't a problem, what I'm saying is that meshing two cultures together and treating them as if they were the same is rather ignorant especially when there are some tensions between those cultures, and I wouldn't blame someone if they were offended. Again taking inspiration from a culture isn't a problem "Samurai Jack" is an example of a show that does it wonderfully the "problem"(it's not really that big of a deal) here more lies in the misrepresentation of said cultures. Just because it is "gimmick" does not mean it can't be offensive, nor does you not finding it offensive. All I am saying is though I personally am not offended could easily see why anybody would be because of the way it uses it's inspiration is kinda questionable and kinda ignorant. A Spanish character named Pope Bagette Spegetti would still be questionable even if your shows gimmick/inspiration is Europe, not everyone may find it particularly offensive but would still probably deem it rather questionable if it wasn't for a joke(though I don't think anybody would actually find that one offensive) it's the same idea.
@@pixelatedmess9269 I get what you mean . As I said i do understand this to an extent since there are so many vampire parodies where their accent could be seen as offensive , and their names are just a variation on Vlad and Dracula , Dracula being a old leader in Romania. Having the name of an respected national hero of my country be transformed in to this parody joke , with a variation on the name ,failing to showcase places such as transylvania successfully.. is something I could cry and bitch about , but they never intended to showcase that country, most of them wanted to pay homage to an old horror character lightly based on old myths from around my country . Getting back to the point , they are trying to pay respect in a way to action movies with a more cartoonish approach.. they are not trying to pay respect from the country the movies come from , just like Dracula parodies. People that would get offended don't understand the point of the show . It tries to mimicking a intentionally fictional world , such as the one seen in those old movies which is not exactly a accurate showcase of asiatic cultures either. I get why it would be offensive too , but it's not like they wanted it to be .it's not ignorance, it's just that they didn't research Asia as much as the movies from there , wanting to create a wacky non-serious show ,not a samurai Jack style show
@@dragonbullets2763 Dragon Bullets yeah, I fully understand that the intent most likely wasn't to offend but it is still literally by definition is ignorance, A lack of knowledge/understanding or awareness. Im not saying they are bad people because of it but I am saying by definition it is still ignorant because while yes you could argue that they are being inspired/parodying movies from these cultures(which I disagree with considering that if this where the case we would see alot more of their tropes)I would argue that movies are definitely a representation of culture.Knights in a western would still be weird and would probably piss off someone who owns a gun so would professor Hamburger Texas the true American Patriot. And I don't think (and I may be wrong) that anybody really thinks all Romanian people are like Dracula,Im pretty sure anybody that stupid doesn't know that Romania is a country and if they do probably would associate Romanians with like Nico from GTA4 who I don't even think is Romanian,I do however know from personal experience that it is extremely common for people to think that every eastern Asian country is part of China.Intent at the end of the day is kinda irrelevant. Also I thought Dracula was based off of Vlad the Impaler, please correct me if I am wrong.

I swear to god, I remember that airing like late at night, then just stopped airing without a word. I spent years trying to find it, wondering if it even existed or it was just a show child me had just made up or was remembering wrong.
Me too man, for most of my life I thought it was lost media.
BRO THIS AIRED AT LIKE 8PM SOMETIMES 10PM AT NIGHT
And there was that one time they aired the Christmas special in the middle of Summer 2016
Chop Socky’s art style an colour / lighting palette reminds me of the background and NPC designs for the Little Big Planet games. And totally agree, that art style is sick, it’s a shame there weren’t any series I know of that replicated or utilised the same style as well.
STAHP, I miss playing that game 😭😭😭, nostalgia hitting like a truck rn
It reminds me of de blob
i mean, mid 2000s pixar/dreamworks movies
maybe kung fo panda
Chop Socky's art style reminds me of that Wii game called _De Blob._
I have to that show fits the Frutiger Metro category.
This show feels like a weird fever dream no one else seems to remember.
As a younger person I never liked it..
Same, i just remember it was on tv at random times
I remember it and used to watch it regularly... damn, I watched a lot of crap when I was a kid.
I sort of remember this I remember watching one episode and then instantly forgot about it
I remember the name but that's about it
I remember it well enough to know, I thought it was ok as a kid, didn’t watch it a lot, then again I just watched whatever was on at the time, so I don’t think it actually played that much anyway.
I thought one was ever gonna talk about this show again until today
Mason darden me too
i'm so glad people remember this, it used to air every day late at night on CN UK, after skatoony
IKR! This just feels too surreal. But seeing how Pan is talking about it it makes it less surreal as I’m so used to him talking about obscure shows and movies.
mooood, sometimes even I forget it exists
I thought I imagined this show until pan made this video, I try to look this show up online a while ago and I couldn't find anything about it to save my life.
Fun Fact: The buck tooth, slant eyed, round glasses Japanese character comes from roots in WW2 Propaganda. That Japanese guy is a caricature of Hideki Tojo, the Japanese Prime Minister at the time. "Tojo" became a slur against the Japanese for this reason.
Why did you quote Tojo? I don't see the point.
@@nullno3722 I didn't quote Tojo. I gave a fun fact about where the most infamous Japanese stereotype in animation comes from. At 6:30 Pan puts up a clip from an old propaganda cartoon from WW2 or shortly thereafter. That's why I prefaced the whole thing with "Fun Fact"
neat, dont know why I didnt put the slur and last name together sooner
The only Tojo I know of is Kirumi Tojo from Danganronpa. Is the term still offensive to Japanese people today?

I remember Hero 108
Omfg totally forgot about The Secret Saturdays
Correct me if I'm wrong but I remember The Secret Saturday's had promotions for the show that lasted for a solid 2-3 years before actually airing the show. The first year of promotions were only accessible on the internet on their website. The show itself was tight though.

I mean it's better than using actual slurs, like the Coolie enemies from Shadow Warrior.
I'm Australian, and I always knew chook meant chicken.
It's a bit late, but because I keep getting notifications, I want to give some background:
I grew up in Hawaii where in public schools, casual racism is hot amongst kids.
The sailor moon effect
