Great video once again, thanks. There is an important item missing : on the base picture, teapot shadow is cast on Suzanne's head, but separate objects on two layers didn't bring this shadow back. Maybe it's quite beyond this tutorial scope, it would be great to have a way to still be able to get the original picture result using layers, if that possible.
On the Suzanne layer, keep the Teapot collection enabled, but select 'Indirect Only' from the visibility filters - this makes the Teapot invisible but keeps its shadow.
Where is the shadow from the teapot on Suzanne? And the mirrorimage of Suzanne in the Teapot is also gone? How could i use renderlayers without loosing those Features?

Nice description. Next one should be dealing with shadows and etc via holdout. If I wanted a scene from several camera actions, could I make several scenes each with a different camera?
I am trying to understand this: how could I use the compositor properly? I'm struggling to understand: how can I render a basic render (less time in render) and then in compositor, enrich my scene and then render? what should be the right order? Thanks in advance. Ryan, as usual, thanks for bringing us this caspsules of knowledge. Cheers
Thanks for this. Could you some day explain the difference between rendering different elements in separate viewlayers and in separate scenes ? Thanks!!
Great tutorial! What if I have an object in the scene which emit light and this light affect all the objects in the scene. How to have this light effect on every layer without having this object that emit light on every layer(becasue that way, when compositing and combining the different layers, this object that emit light will be in every rendered layer and a layering of the same object will occur)?
In the viewport i can see that teapot's shadow was effected on the monkey, but after render 2 layers the shadow wont effected anymore, how to fix that ?
Thank you for the video, but I would like to know how to render shadows of the tea pot on Suzane for example ? Is it possible ? Because if I render characters on a floor, I have not shadows...do you know how fix it ?
Thanks for this! Could you help me in the process of rendering objects and volume separately so I don't have to render the whole scene every time, for example, if I have to correct the volume only I can render only that element ?Thanks a lot!
thank you for all helpful video ! here some quesion about my work. i want to make when baking coffee that coffee bean stir when baking's animation, but i don't have no idea how to do that , hope teach me!
The question is; what would be the real use case benefits of this feature, compared to taking two renders and editing them in gimp or photoshop? I don't see any benefit other than using the node system for procedural effects generation. Which is only helpful if you are already familiar with the node system. I expected so see something that would allow me to render by modifying layer properties for something like creating a ghost by altering layer transparency for an animation. But unfortunately all i am seeing is a post process feature that would require working on each frame, one by one, which is something i am able to do by using the aforementioned photomanipulation softwares. Informative video though. Thanks for the tutorial.
I'm combining two different scene view layers in an attempt to overlay one on top of the other without the compositor effects, but for some odd reason some of the objects in the scene render with partial opacity and can be seen through (Where the point light is oddly enough), but the text is for some reason not affected. I'm trying to make all the objects in the overlay scene fully opaque and in a separate scene layer so they aren't affected by the compositor, and then mixing them in with a mix color Add node as the last node. If anyone knows why this opacity issue is present, please let me know!
I have no idea how I found this video literal seconds after it was uploaded. I'm gonna for sure follow this when I have time
thanks!
Thanks!
You're welcome! Thanks for the support!

this was actually so helpful bro, i was having so much trouble figuring out but now i can do blur, glow, and more! thank you so much :D
Another great, practical tip !!
Thx !! 🙏
actually so helpful!
best blender youtuber -> Ryan King
thanks so much mate! your vids have been helping me tons
glad to hear that
Thank you! Very helpful and well done video!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent tutorial. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
the talk about cycles in the Blender Conference 2024 by Turpal Alex Saytiev now makes more sense. Thank you!!!!
that presentation is very helpful! totally agree with you.

Thats also a big one, the whole thing requires some more experimentation and more explanation.

how do i get the reflection and shadows though? that's my question?!
same question
Is it possible to separate the shadow from the teapot on the monkey using this method?
I think someone complaining removal of shadow pass in ver 4.2

i am having issues
when i disable collections in one viewlayer it disables in all of them WHICH IS WHAT I DONT WANT
Thanks it helped me a lot 🎉

Why shadow on Suzane is mussing. Is there any solution........
No, except shadow pass, that is available before ver 4.2

The teapot shadow on Suzanne missing on the compositing.
my thought as well...
Very good!

Hi! What if I want to save HDRI (visibility of the image)?
You loose the reflections and the rest of the interactions between the two elements if you do it like this
the main thing shadow, how can we get?
What if you want render the HDRI separately to put as backgorund in the compositor?
What about the shadow casted from teapot to the monkey's face?
Ok, I got the solution, Thanks
@@GoDXaviA What is your solution?
@@GoDXaviA Indeed what was the solution to shadows/reflections?
@@GoDXaviA "Ok, I got the solution, Thanks" lol. Why bother posting that and not explain it?

Can you tell me how to hide de first object (transparent) but it hides the zone that is behind it in the second object?
Could you make a video on how to render videos using layers?

Ur like a robot man! 😮
why a robot? : )
But the shadow casted by teapot is missing on monkey.
yeah true
Cool but not really sure how useful this would be. What really is the advantage of this method?
For most things you wouldn't use it, but I have had need of it a few times over the years. It is useful
I use it with File Output to create different layers which I import in DaVinci Resolve Fusion to get this build up effect.
Another great, practical tip !! 👌
