I’ve used a Security 9 as my EDC for over a year now. Fantastic gun. Great sights, very accurate, easy to operate, and eats any ammo I can put through it.
@@ironhorse8573 actually never tried Tula. I had some steel case Red Army Standard once, and it handled that fine. I reload 99% of my ammo. I down loaded a plinking round over 1 grain below minimum published charge, and that Ruger cycled it fine. I got a Sig P365 a couple months ago, and I love how easy to conceal carry it is, but I’ve had problems with light primer strikes on a lot of different ammo. Never had that issue with the Security 9!
@@ironhorse8573 as much as I really don’t like Glocks, you won’t find a more reliable handgun. Ugly as sin, but they go bang every time! They cost almost double what the Ruger cost, but the aftermarket availability of parts is amazing! Mags, sights, triggers, every part for a Glock can be customized.
As a first time gun owner I purchased this weapon in February of last year and I could not be happier. It’s just a great general purpose pistol. Especially for beginners to the shooting sports who live in a restricted state.
For the money these are solid! I almost forgot I had one. This is the best budget gun now. Found a dude that sold me a pretty new one with ID and paperwork for $150!
Great review, as always. I got the Security 9 last year for $300. Like you said, even around the MSRP, it’s still a fair price. The least expensive gun in my collection but definitely one of my favorites to shoot. Great gun, especially for the price. Now you’re even hitting the target during the limp wrist test... Can’t wait to see what’s next...I’m thinking blindfolded.
Very reliable gun , very cheap when it came out. Very slim and easy to conceal. Thanks Dan for bringing back the Security 9. Wish i have the compact too.

My primary EDC pistol, I love it! I can pick it up and easily hit paper at 10 yards w/o trying, which I feel pretty good about. The slide release isn't the greatest, but the grip, weight and capacity negate, I'd also say it's quite sleek for its size as well.
Great video as usual Dan! I have a Security 9 & it's my EDC. Just love it. Fits my hand perfectly 7 is very reliable. I would highly recommend this gun for everyone, men, women & youths. Accurate and I've had no malfunctions with the rounds I've put through it.

It's a great choice. Zero issues with mine 100% reliable. The limp wrist test is always a bonus. Maybe you should make a best of limp wrist testing!! Great video Dan!

Thanks for the great review of the Ruger Security 9, Dan. Like you I purchased mine right after introduction in 2017 and have not been disappointed. I like how racking the slide pre-cocks the hammer to about 95% full. It allows the hammer fired action to function much like a striker. I'm able to carry IWB as is but can see the merits of the Security 9 Compact. Good shooting to you!
I’ve watched many vids, a few bashing this gun at first and I was kinda depressed I love the look of it. I currently carry a gen3 Glock 27 and I it shoots great but I just hate how it feels in hand. I plan to trade in for one of these and this video got my hopes up!
Love your videos been watching them for a while. The Ruger security 9 was the first pistol I ever purchased. Love it and have added some mods to mine. You've actually don't videos on a couple of my firearms. Keep up the good content.
I bought a security 9 for my wife a few years back, it's a pretty good little pistol but she always steals my 1911 when we go to the range because she gets better accuracy out of it so I end up shooting the ruger more than she does.
Another excellent video as always... I bought one of these a couple of months ago for $275 and really like it... I think it has one of the most ergonomic grips out of the many pistols I own... Also very accurate and has functioned 100% so far. 👍
I think they should call it Ruger Security 9 winner. It's reliable, affordable for the majority of people's budget that may need a firearm for self defense and not want to spend 500 or more on a pistol.
I have had the Barret Brown model since it came out. Has been perfect. The finish has come off some on slide but no big deal. I wish the G19 grip was like this. I carry it often

Love your honest and entertaining reviews. Purchase this the end of January and it’s my first ever handgun purchase. Really enjoying the fire on that made you some slight modifications. I hear the Seneschal performance Trigger by Gateway precision is a must add to this gun.
Dan, you should’ve said “I meant to do that” when you had the hit on the limp wrist test. I like the compact version very much. If I happen across the Navy Seal Foundation limited production run model I will probably buy one.

Is the trigger guard mounted laser good idea.here the combo costs around $600 new.
I bought one early this year as a possible ccw option. I find it fun to shoot & pretty accurate but I had a ton of feeding issues when I first bought it. The 1st round may or may not go in. If it did then either the 2nd or 3rd would fail to feed. Tried the other mag that came with it. Tried 3 different types of ammo. It was the gun. One type of ammo was aluminum & I saw a scratch on the case when it failed to feed. Found 3 burrs in the gun that needed filed down. That helped a little. After about 300 rounds the feeding issues became less frequent. A month later I had three misfires in the same mag. Those I contributed to the ammo & bad primers. One had a light strike but the other 2 should have gone off. I eventually had a local armorer check it out. He couldn't find anything wrong but said maybe the feed ramp needed a drop of lube. I've put maybe 100-150 rounds through it since he looked at it & haven't had any more issues. I could have had a bad one, I dont know, but that really made me question the reliability so I kept it as a "fun gun" but got a different make for ccw.
