    *Water Heater Best Practices:
    - Before installation, drain the water using a low point drain, such as a tub.
    - Use a ratchet cutter for CPVC pipe so it does not shatter.
    - Use dielectric unions when connecting dissimilar metals to avoid electrolysis.
    - After installation, let the air out of the system by turning the water on. Ensure the power is off.
    - Turn the water on slowly with all faucets off, letting the tank fill with water.
    - Ensure the power is off, then adjust the temperature of your water heater thermostat temperature to 140° F each.
    - After setting the new temperatures on the water heater, turn the power on to adjust the temperature to 120° F on the mixing valve. Use an Allen wrench and ensure the temperature remains constant.

    To all your critics that think they know about plumbing. Why don't you get a training from this man? Because he knows what he's talking about. We use them a lot in our hospital. Flower patience and they work very well again. All you critics first practice before you preach

    Plumber here- Unless I missed something or you did a time lapse, you didn’t give the heater time to reach the 140 degree temperature and see if the tempering valve was mixing the high temp water down to the 120 degree temp.
    When I do one of those, I always check to make sure that cold water is passing through the “ bypass line “(as you called it ), before leaving the job.

    Cool concept. I don’t imagine this would work too well in a cold environment as the water coming into my house is just above freezing in the winter. It already kills the temperature in my 50 gallon high recovery tank as it enters the tank to replace the hot water we use. (the cold water coming into the tank just cools off the water too much and we end up getting a lot less hot water during the winter). If the “cold” water is already 60 or 70F I imagine this could work well.

    Throw the rubber washer/ screen away and use a proper Y strainer. The rubber washer with screen will eventually leak and also break down sooner than later.

    If you raise a 30 gallon tank to 140° with 40° water mixing, how many gallons of 120° water do you get? I'm thinking maybe ten more gallons..

    my hot water tank is 12 years old. My last hot water tank lasted me 14 years, I expect this one to go at any time that’s why I have it mounted in one of those pans with a hose bib that allows the water to drain through a tube over to the drain in the basement.
    I considered one of those tankless water heaters that a coworker has in his home. He said don’t waste your money.
    I have been considering going to a 10 or 20 gallon gas hot water tank. Because of all of the energy/water, saving plumbing devices we have in our home, 10 gallons would be plenty for my wife and I because, to fill a pot due to the low volume of water that passes through these Obama era faucets, it takes oh, long time just to fill a pot to make spaghetti. My wife complains that the shower head, which is an energy/water saver, doesn’t rinse the shampoo and conditioners. She uses on her hair quickly enough. We have a front loader, energy, saving washing machine, which uses very little water and very little detergent per cycle. I think it uses less than 10 gallons for a wash cycle. So I am sure we could get by with a smaller hot water tank than the 40 gallon tanks we have always used. Don’t need them anymore now that all three of our kids flew the coop..
    I have been looking for 20 gallon gas Hot water tanks, but I have not been able to find Any company that makes them on the Internet

    You DO NOT want the water heater being the first supplied fixture….most plumbers either have not been taught or just don’t know the laws of fluid dynamics….you actually want the water heater to be the absolute last fixture on the cold water side

    • @Jerry-pi2fe
      @Jerry-pi2fe Месяц назад

      You could tell us, if you really know, the people that don’t know what you’re talking about how to go about what you are talking about. The way this unit is connected you don’t have a choice of fixtures to select as first or last! You can only make the water heater the connection because that is where you are installing it because that is the way it is designed mr. fluid dynamic!

  • @hotrodpaully1
    @hotrodpaully1 5 месяцев назад +14

    That doesn't increase hot water capacity at all!! It tempers the water but you can do the same thing at the faucets a waste of money. Especially for a house that has a tub that water heater is way too small. Guarantee that won't fix customer complaints

    • @zacke1434
      @zacke1434 4 месяца назад +1

      This was my same thought too. The faucets effectively do the exact same thing.

    • @raindogs451
      @raindogs451 4 месяца назад +10

      Actually not true. If the tank is typically at 120, and you increase the tank temperature to 140 you now have more BTUs resident in the tank. You have BTUs “in reserve.” The tempering will be now start using more cold water from the street; the exact tempering you’re suggest the faucets will do. Will it affect YOUR shower? NO. But those BTUS you “parked” by raising tank temp are still available for shower 2, 3… etc.

    • @raindogs451
      @raindogs451 4 месяца назад +2

      So… faucets will do an extremely similar function; what the faucets can’t do is draw upon water that has essentially been preheated and available via a tempering valve.

    • @zacke1434
      @zacke1434 4 месяца назад +3

      @@raindogs451 Yes but they also could have just turned up the temp at the tank up to 140 and taken there showers at there normal temp and it would have been the same. In each instance the number of BTU's available is exactly the same, the only factor that matters here is turning up the temp of the tank.

    • @raindogs451
      @raindogs451 4 месяца назад +7

      If that isn’t 100% clear, if you set the tank to 140, and set the outlet temp to 120, his tempering valve will change the ratio of cold water to hot water, BEFORE IT GETS TO YOUR FAUCET, essentially using more cold water while still maintaining 120.

    So its not boosting the hot water, the water heater does that when you increase the temperature setting. What he is installing is a mixer that lowers the temperature of the output hot water that is set on the heater to a comfortable temperature at the faucet. So its increasing the usable warm water (not boosting the hot) by adding cold water with the hot water tank output. Not rocket science. Have been using them in my house thirty years!
