So... I was procrastinating to do some important yet tedious tasks and I told myself, I'll get to Brian to see any of his videos... I watched until exactly 2:32 and paused the video... went and done all of the tasks and then here I ma 4 hours later... continuing the video after I finished my work. Again, Brian says the very same stuff that all good personal development folks say.. but for some strange reason, his words make all the way through to the center of my head... it might be the haircut & black shirt, I'm not sure ... but it really works. You rock Brian, I'd invite you to dinner if you decided to visit Egypt!
Thank you Brian for these awesome videos. They are really inspiring! The Do less principle is something I've been practicing lately. I used to plan maybe ten different things, that I would try to accomplish during my work day. Most of the time I ended up completing one to three. Nowadays (almost) every morning I decide I'm going to do these three or four tasks and then just go do them. I get so much more done and feel much mroe fulfilled at the end of the day! Now I just need to start learning to worry less before and after the tasks. Self-doubt is my worst enemy.
***** Love it, Antti. David Schwartz from The Magic of Thinking Big comes to mind. He tells us: "... action cures fear. Indecision, postponement, on the other hand, fertilize fear... Jot that down in your success rule book right now. Action cures fear.” Plus: “Fear of all kinds and sizes is a form of psychological infection. We can cure a mental infection the same way we cure a body infection-with specific, proved treatments... condition yourself with this fact: all confidence is acquired, developed. No one is born with confidence. Those people around you who radiate confidence, who have conquered worry, who are at ease everywhere and all the time, acquired their confidence, every bit of it."
NOW is the time it needs to do done. Will power does have a limit, finite! Do it ONCE and finish it. No anxiety before and after. Focus on what matters (thimbles). Do you believe in yourself ??? (Self efficacy)-practice mental mantra. Challenges are great(obstacle is the way)!
I love the "do less" portion because I am a CONSTANT worrier about things before and after I do them. I'm gonna practice that "do less" big idea. Thanks.
ANGYL - Think less, Do more. - My problem has also been over-analysing things and flooding my mind with what-ifs... When I realized that getting things done gives the best pleasure, and worrying only consumes the energy - then you just do what needs to be done. Period. :)
The biggest idea for me today is the connection between will and maturity! What I need to apply now in my life is the "doing less" aspect of Iron Will. It feels like I need more of the pro attitude which goes with "Do I believe in myself"? I know I am capable of doing anything I put my mind on to, but "Do I believe in my self"?
Really enlightening insight of The.Will. You cant really cut the topic more better than this - if this doesn't kick your ass and get you to do what needs to be done, nothing will. :)
***** Thank you for great lectures! Immediately subscribed. If you haven't bumped I recommend you and subscribers to check some clips from Mateusz M, different but also good approach of "lecturing". :) Greets from Finland
Awesome video Brian, love the chalk board! First thing I just did was deleted the comment in response to a negative comment, waists time n cut the negative in my life.
I'll be honest, I'm not going to choose just one. Simply bc I can find practical uses for these right now: Do less, Thimbles, and Challenges = Good. Do less: I should quit pulling up Facebook, etc on my phone and constantly have a book with me instead. I need to focus my time and energy on songwriting. This is constantly reading on the topic (acquiring and understanding the knowledge). Also, WRITING music! This is the hardest part for me. Which leads to Thimbles: every day, spend copious amounts of time WRITING music! I'll work in "thimble-loads." (Hah. See what I did there?) It'll be some variation of the pomodoro technique. Finally, Challenges = good: I'm not in the ideal living situation (living with my uncle), but he's gracious enough to let me stay here for free. I can't thank him enough for that. It gives me more time to do exactly what I was just referring to. Thanks again! I'll definitely be keeping up with these.
At our house, whenever things get tricky, we start whistling the theme song from the movie Iron Will. ruclips.net/video/Rwo0mCCtgN8/видео.html Then we crack up laughing... and get back to work : )
oh and always spent so much time attending to other needs on social media... no i am turning pro and my creative projects come first. Im on 30 day face book fast and so much more time to write!
Hello Brian. First of all thank you for all the videos. I made it a habit to listen to at least one a day. Secondly, I am wondering if Lisa Garr would interview you. She has a radio program called, "The Aware Show" that hits a lot of the topics you talk about. I think she would love to have you. www.theawareshow.com The show has a heavy new age slant, but she has a diverse group of people that she interviews. www.theawareshow.com/support1/contact/
