Solid summary of some key ideas. Powerful thought...Wind extinguishes a candle and wind fuels a fire. Be the fire and the obstacle (the wind) becomes fuel for our growth.
Another great video Brian! Panic Buttons - Pause, and think to avoid panic, since it'll paralyze you - 4:00 3. PTSD vs PTG - Stimulus and Response mechanism. There is a gap between both ends; use it to calm yourself and think about what happened, and how you have perceived it. Choose the best possible response to ACT on it. - 5:33 4. Hey Brian! Loving the blackboard, much better than the whiteboard in my opinion (no running out pens + bolder colours...YAY!) In relation to the subject matter... I left my bag on a train recently with books and my laptop inside, I could have gotten all frustrated and stressed, definitely felt like it! But instead tried to use gratitude that someone handed it in at the next station, that the train employees were really helpful, that it gave me a slot of time to just sit and read/reflect because I had to get a train to the station it was handed in to. Controlling your focus on a situation definitely lessens the problem!
The biggest idea today is this growth factor! Growth is my second biggest value and as a result a huge priority from me. This idea of space is something I came across with meditation practice and it was revealing from me!
I, 've been dealing with obstacle after obstacle and I'm trying my best to stay upbeat and positive!, these obstacles have been coming back to back! but it is not easy all the time for me to keep a positive mindset when this happens, I get frustrated and start feeling as though I,am cursed, but I know that what happens was gonna happen anyway, what is is!, these things at times drain my energy and sometimes effect my will, i,am not a cry baby nor a quieter, and I,am not trying to complain or give up!, but man it gets frustrating and it feels like things are falling apart.I am glad I came across this it's good advice I will keep these tools in mind thanks for sharing this info.

Brian - Love your stuff, love your attitude! Thank you for your positive influence. I've heard it said that we become like our 5 closest friends, or like the 5 people we spend the most time with -- if that's true, then I figure I'll be fine because you are one of my Five, thanks to RUclips!
Top-shelf content which is always on point and always educational. I will be checking your other works on the stoics soon as I am in the process of reading Seneca's letters and reread Meditations every morning. Thanks a ton.
Richie Thierry Thanks, Richie! That's awesome. Here's a link to my Notes/PNTVs on Aurelius + Seneca + Epictetus: brianjohnson.me/philosophersnotes-tag/stoicism/
I loved the idea of managing perceptions, I plan to do at least 4-5 your videos per day along with other resources and integrate myself , well your video series is the north star of my study right now.. Great work!!
My favorite idea was the genius equation. I think I have it backwards. I am spending 99% of my time looking for inspiration when I need to flip it around and turn that into work. Get started and then FINISH it!!! Thanks Brian!!!
Brain being the amazing professor that you are, and I consider you my life class professor lol, you are the only person I could ask advice on being afraid of taking B-School, cause I am not that computer savvy, yet, I know it will help my business. what are your thoughts about B-School? I really want to join, I have time, but being alone with technology( AS IN LEARNING ABOUT ALL OF THAT ON LINE NEW AGE SYSTEM) INSTEAD OF BEING IN CLASS) and the price is what is holding me back. I am sorry if this question does not concern you, but I thought maybe you would have a good advice as in how to leap forward when you feel like this. I thank you for taking the time to read my question.
if you visualize doing something in your mind over and over..you don't seem to hit the panic button as much because you feel like you have already done it
i am a bit out of the loop with your videos these days. I've been getting stuff done! :-) you mentioned this in another video as well: you don't have to feel good always to get stuff done." that struck me like a lightening rod and had a huge impact on me. also, from another video: "is it impossible, or just hard." that crazy swede. so powerful. absolutely love your videos, Brian. you are on fire. i would love to interview you for my channel one day over Skype. would it be possible?
Anita Goa Big smile and love you're getting stuff done!!! Thanks for the kind words. Crazy Swede. haha. Love it. I'm in *super* focused mode right now but appreciate the invite and would love to take you up on that when I'm back doing interviews. (Might not be till 2016 tho!! :) High fives and love!
well, by 2016 we'll have gotten lots done; so that will be perfect. i'm in this for the long haul, so no rush. before we know it 2016 will be here anyway. ha ha. i look forward to it. thanks for reply! :-)
Fantastic overview of what is an incredible book. It inspired me to create a white board style video to share this wisdom of turning obstacles into advantages with others.
Hi Brian, Just when I think I have exhausted all the wonderful things you have to offer I stumble across The Obstacle is The Way! I really look forward to how we are going to use this material to help our clients overcome their struggle with addiction. We started using this pasty week and it has been well received. Thanks, Bill Rusen
Supervideo from a supermentor! Thank you Brian! Enjoyed and favorite idea the 5th! (Finish tasks=important!) :) That 2nd idea about panic buttons i think there are a lot of stuff to be done to have a normal heart rate when challenged. It's physiology of every human being(hormone levels like testosterone and cortizol etc) and of course diet/fitness that can help prevent some panic by reducing stress hormones and increasing cardiovascular health. More practise in a task prevents panic too in a way. Any advice on this 2nd idea, teacher? :) (this guy around earth was on drugs or some? xaxaxa)
Costas Plassaras PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!! That's the key to mastering anything and everything. NASA DRILLS this into their astronauts until it's second nature. We must do the same. :)
Hi Brian, congratulations on your awesome business. I checked some comments and you said that you read 20 books or so per month, wow! Do you speed read? Teach us how to read that way, please :)
cristian cris Thanks, Cristian!! 20 books per month is a good month--with the PDF Notes + MP3 + TV + biz stuff as well it makes it challenging to consistently read that many (or more) but I love it! I don't speed read altho I do read quickly given how much I do. I like to imagine I'm sitting down with the teacher and having a great chat about their best ideas--don't want to rush that! My #1 tip: Read a lot. :) I work hard and commit to a bunch of time blocks of pure reading!!
***** Not sure if you read the book (highly rec!) but I loved how Ryan integrated ancient Stoicism with modern heroic stories in a very compelling way!
