This song just became the first song to hit number one, 37 years after it's release in 1985. It becomes the single that took the longest to make it to number one. Love Kate Bush. She is talented and trained as an interpretive dancer under the guidance of David Bowie's former dance teacher Lidsay Kemp. Wuthering Heights will always be my favorite.
I was just saying this on another YT Page, I believe Pat Benatars cover clocked higher. I'd suggest to Asia and BJ, check The Kick Inside, Lionheart first then move on to The Dreaming
I think you’ll find this song went to No. 1 in many countries when released in 1985. Maybe not the US, but the US is just one country.
@@lours6993 No it didn't reach Number 1 in any country in 1985.
@@forevalearning yes, just checked it out.
@@lours6993 sorry it didn’t reach number 1 in any country in 1985, she just broke Tom Jones longest streak between 2 number 1 hits, 78’s Wuthering Heights and 2022 running up that hill!!! Give me the country I’ll tell u were it landed : she was the highest rank in 2 countries UK and Germany at #3 in 85 in all the other countries it’s ranked lower!!! This isn’t hard to find!!!!
A truly outstanding and unique artist
I loved this song when it first came in 1985. I was 17. My girlfriend was 17. I was a New Waver. She was a Metalhead. I loved this song but she didnt like it and would mock it so i never listened to it again. Glad its doing well 😀
I Love watching and listen to you both. It was so cool watching you get into the music. I am a subcriber that lives in Huntingburg, Indiana.
“Cloudbusting” next!
Full title is Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God). According to Kate Bush the title is A Deal With God. The record company insisted it was changed to avoid controversy with religious groups particularly in the USA.
She's the greatest of all time
In 1985 it reached Number 3 here in the UK and Number 30 in America.
Now because of it being used in 'Stranger Things', it just got to Number 1 here in the UK and Number 4 in America.
Upon reaching number 1, Kate Bush broke three chart records: The longest wait between number ones in the history of the UK chart (Her last Number 1 being 'Wuthering Heights' in 1978). The longest time taken between a song's release and it reaching Number 1. And now the oldest female artist to reach Number 1.
I can't lie, I was a kid in the 80s and I never heard this song. You're right, I'm here because of Stranger Things. I hope more classics are used in TV shows.
Kate Bush was a precocious talent writing songs from the age of 11. Her debut album The Kick Inside was released in 1978 when she was 19. Some of the songs on the album were written by her when she was only 13. After hearing her demo tape through a mutual friend and impressed by what he heard Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour helped her record a more professional tape and also paid for it! Later in her career she worked with the late great Prince doing backing vocals on a couple of tracks for one of his albums. A gifted artist himself he was in awe of her and referred to her as a genius.
Massive attac Tupac bjork étaient fan absolu de ce génie et a raison
There's something special about the line "Tell me we both matter, don't we?"
Good video guys.
Kate is revered here in the UK and rightly so!! She is a wonderfully creative artist and so so very unique. Great reaction guys as usual. Thank you!! Take care.
Revered! In Britain it’s Kate Bush, The late Queen and God, in that order.
This song broke a few records due to Stranger Things help, including longest time to reach number 1 37 years and oldest woman to top the charts.
I read that she's made an additional 2.3 million $$$ from her Stranger Things resurgence. Crazy!
God I fucking despise stranger things with all my heart
Stanger Things is the only reason it's back in the charts.
@@peteb973 Just like Bohemian Rhapsody in "Waynes World" Doesn't detract from the song if it's not in the charts later. Most songs aren't anyway.
this song has re-entered the charts in 2022....pretty amazing, no?
Indeed.. because of Stranger Things, right ? It was used to prevent Max(ime) getting taken by Vecna
@@AmazingOracleThird72 yep
Still gives me goosebumps all these years later...! I'm 64....!
Same age as Kate and I
Of course it does. Those were the best times.
Well done to both of you. I have seen some truly terrible reactions to this song since it was co-opted by Stranger Things, but you my friends are open minded, intelligent and perceptive. You mentioned the beauty of the choreography and the dancing. It might have helped if you had known that the dancer and the choreographer is Kate herself (you didn’t seem to, apologies if I am wrong about that). She dances the song in every step, a feature of many of her videos. The song was written in 1985. Kate’s artistic vision has always been more important to her than popularity, which why her fanatical fans adore her. Can I recommend a song/video that I have never seen a reaction to? And Dream Of Sheep is another song from the same 1985 album, Hounds of Love, that Running Up That Hill is from. In 2014 Kate re-recorded that song for a concert. She spent a day in a water tank until she was close to hypothermia, then she sang the song. You can hear her voice juddering because of the cold. It is brilliant.
Kate Bush! She's influenced a lot of artists (Bjork, Florence and the Machine, Tegan and Sara, 2PAC (yes!), Big Boi from Outkast (Yes!), PJ Harvey, Annie Lennox (Eurythmics), Fionna Apple, Tori Amos, Solange (Beyonce's sister), Suzanne Vega, FKA Twigs, and many others. Kate Bush is avante-garde, artsy pop, a little new wave, etc. Very successful during the late '70s, '80s, and early '90s. She is from the UK. She's a musical genius.
Check out her other videos "Cloudbusting", "Babooshka", "Wuthering Heights", "Rubberband Girl", "This Women's Work" (Maxwell covered this song, good job), etc. Very talented , creative, and beautiful singer, pianist, and dancer. Her son is also a singer as well. Albert McIntosh.
This song/video was huge back in the mid '80s when I was a kid, charted high. Now my teenage daughter loves her music! This song has re-entered the charts very high across the world including the US. Thanks to Stranger Thing (my daughter loves that show, too lol), over 3 decades later! That's nuts. Classic masterpiece. Ahead of it's time. Recent interview of Kate, shows her being shocked and thankful, she also watches the TV show. Very happy that the younger generation are listening to her music!
Not sure Pink has ever said she was a fan of Kate Bush but she sure did a close version of this routine here in her Try performance on American music awards in around 2012
Watching Big Boi talking about Kate Bush is always fun. He's such a massive fan of her.
Joe Smith, that was beautifully written, I appreciate the effort. I've been huge Kate Bush fan since the '80s. I'd have one another artist that was influenced by Kate. Her name is Happy Rhodes and she also started to write music very young, back in 80s. Sadly, not many people ever heard of her, but she is like hidden treasure (at least in my opinion) If you can, please do check some of her songs: "Rainkeeper", "Ode", "When the Rain come down".
@@rexmandrake4182 No worries. Also, wow! Interesting. I will check into Happy Rhodes. I haven't heard about her yet TBH. Im in the US.
don't forget Maxwell...he's a massive fan of Kate covering her song this woman's work...
I was a teenager when this song came out and the way I always took the meaning of this song was" I would gladly take all your burdens from you to save you from all your pain because I love you so much" and as a parent that hits me even harder now. It makes me think about when my son was terribly sick with a rare medical condition and I would just cry from pure frustration of not being able to stop his pain. He has made a full recovery since then, gratefully.
It is easy to interpret it that way-I can as well-although of course it’s not what was meant when she was writing the lyrics- about wishing men and women could trade places see what it’s like to walk in the other’s shoes, live each other’s lives, if only for a short time.
I watched an interview where she says that she prefers for people to interpret her songs from a personal perspective, as you do here, and I admit that I feel very similarly. Sometimes when I hear this song I think about my husband when he was in hospice and feeling as you described and it takes my breath away. Full-on crying as I type this now, even.
Stranger Things brought me here
Kate Bush began writing songs at 11. She was signed to EMI Records after Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour helped produce a demo tape.
It didn't take her 37 years to get to #1 (it was in a couple other countries back in 1985), it got the USA 37 years to catch up with the rest of the world who knew it since 1979: A multi-instrumental musician and composer, having a proven range of 3.5 octaves (B2 - F6), writing and producing her own material and creating her own musical universe that seems to have no precursor anybody could identify. And she did her own choreography as well.
That is Kate Bush. Welcome, America, to her genius. It was about time.
America doesn't always deserve nice things 😊
Asia & BJ, check out her first hit "Wuthering Heights" ! A unique voice for sure.
I think first they need to know the story of Cathy and Heathcliff. not everybody get this song if not.
💯
It helps to know that she's singing this song as a CHARACTER from her favorite book, "Wuthering Heights", and that her character is a GHOST. So, she's singing in the high, banshee voice of a ghost. One great thing about Kate; she was so intelligent that her music was almost too deep for some people! 😁😎
I find her very cool.
The UKs best & most Unique Female artist ever IMO, So many great tracks to choose from, please react to Kate Bush again in the near future
Thanks
I didn’t know this song until I heard it on Stranger Things. I really like it though. It was the perfect song for that scene.
It really is!
The song was featured as the main theme song for the 1986 BBC 1 children's drama serial, Running Scared. In 2022, "Running Up That Hill" received renewed attention when it was prominently featured in season 4 of the Netflix series, Stranger Things. Its appearance led to the song's resurgence on charts around the world,[8][9] reaching the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the charts in eight countries, including the United Kingdom. was also featured on the 1st season of Pose.
This songs on stranger things 4
She is an in incredible artist. So many songs that seems a tingle down my spine. Best of all, my daughter absolutely loves her too.
KATE BUSH sold over 6,975,800 albums
It has gone to No1 in the UK charts since being used in a big scene in stranger things.it didn't get to No1 the first time so has taken 37 yrs to get there.kate(63)and her son have watched stranger things from the beginning.Kate said, "I really like people to hear a song and take from it what they want. But originally it was written as the idea of a man and a woman swapping with each other. Just to feel what it was like, from the other side."
kate owns her label and all of the recordings so she's making bank right now!! apparently about 245k/week
She is my fave female artist since I was a young girl. " The man with the child in his eyes and of cos "wuthering heights "
She has also collaborated with Peter Gabriel which is an amazing
Yes! They actually sang a duet! Great song!
She and Prince have a collaboration. ‘Why Should I Love You”
Don’t give up
NicoleK Hi. Fellow Aussie here. Kate also did a cool number with Scottish rock band Big Country. "The Seer". about the same time. Up tempo rock with Celtic influences. Kate sounds ethereal.
@@warrenbridges1891 thanks for this
When we were over in the UK we stopped at a little pub that had “Big Country” memorabilia all the way through it.
We found out that the owner was a massive fan and already had some of his stuff hanging up in there.
The band stopped by to have a drink and feed and loved how the owner had all of their stuff on display.
They gave him so much more stuff which was all signed for him to add to the collection.
As a Big Country fan also it was fantastic just wondering around looking at it all.
Y'all gotta do a reaction to ((FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE!!))
Please do her song: ***The Dog Days Are Over*** thank you 💛
This is such a great song and was used in episode 4 of stranger things season 4 in an epic scene. This song has seen a renewal all over the world from that one scene. Kate Bush has many other great songs and I hope you do some reactions to them.
Try The Man with the Child in his eyes, apparently written when she was 13. It was not only a UK hit but won a prestigious song writing award. The Hounds of Love album, which features Running Up That Hill, is stunning.
Yes, one of my absolute favourites, together with cloudbusting and Hammer Horror.
Hounds of Love is my favorite!
This is the first song I heard from her when I was, like 11 or 12.
It was fascinating. It mesmerized me.
‘This Woman’s Work’ is so beautiful.
I was about 8. My cousin who was in her teens listened to this album. I was stunned even then before I could really get it.
Danelle Covey Kate Bush "Crushing the lily in our souls" since 1978.
A really great, intelligent reaction, guys... really good .
This song contains so many unique concepts and sounds....one of which was a LinDrumm drum machine which hasn't been manufactured since the late 80s.....I guess because nobody mastered its potential as well as this song did!
She actually edited out certain drums in the loop and had Stuart Elliott record them live to give a different feel to the track, bouncing between the lin Drum and live percussion.
I suggest you listen to some Prince. He was the undisputed king of the Linn Drum.
@@austinstyles6393 I think his best use of the LinDrum was with "When Doves Cry", but I still feel this Kate Bush song's LinDrum sound is the best.......but it's a good debate!
The actual Stranger Things clip with this song is on RUclips.
Number 1 in the UK Charts right now.
Ooo I love this song and Kate Bush
Thanks for this, it has made my morning
Love from Australia 🇦🇺
"Beautiful song..."
Glad you liked it Asia! and you, BJ. You both have proper taste in music. Kate is wicked.
Yes! Thank you!
@@AsiaandBJ Hey you two! Can you do a video on Ayla, at the time she is 15 years old playing snice I've been loving you, by Jimmy page. She does it with such great feelings and with her eyes closed! She has beautiful talent! And she also plays some Jimmy Hendrix stuff. Check her out here on RUclips. Later.
Yup number 1 because of Stranger things. She lives a quite life here in the UK.
I love her voice. It is so unique🙂
Check out Kate's interview on "Raised on Radio" where she explains the entire song meaning at @
Cloudbusting is another great song of Kate's from her album Hounds of Love (1985)
Yep Cloudbusting is one of my favorite songs. The whole album is amazing, we’ll all of her albums are. I can’t really pick a true favorite.
Currently number one in the UK charts & top ten in the US, 37 years after its release, due to featuring in Stranger Things & going viral, hopefully introducing a new generation to one of the best and most interesting singer/songwriters.
For The Hundredth time, you see the benefit of the VIDEO....lol
Kate Bush was born and raised less than 2 miles from where I live on the edge of South East London and Kent in England and this was written as the idea of a man and a woman swapping with each other. Just to feel what it was like, from the other side.,,,,:)
Great job, you caught the essence of the song on first listen... this is a great one, for sure. My only added thought after reflection is that it's significant that she's asking for a "Deal with God" not a "Deal with the Devil." That tells me that her heart is in the right place, her motives are pure, not selfish. Good reaction!
A lot of foolish people think Kate is some sort of witch. In fact she is, as she has always been, a Catholic.
What's the difference, both are imaginary?
@@House_of_Caine agreed, both imaginary, but words are how we communicate intent and meaning. It was a word choice, not necessarily a belief system. My point was by choosing to imagine a deal with “God” this connotes good intentions. Swap for mutual understanding, not to “win” an argument, gain upper hand, etc.
@@House_of_Caine .....and hasn't Kate always had the most vivid imagination?
Cher congratulated Kate for beating her record as the Eldest female artist to reach no1 , Apparently Kate received 1,000,000 pounds for this reaching no1 absolutely amazing song thanks 🙏
I think you would like Peter Gabriel - Don't Give Up (ft. Kate Bush) - RUclips. A class song.
She was originally a dancer interpretive dance. ( Dancing that tells a story or express emotion)
Sne wasn’t originally a dancer. When she first got signed by EMI and had a big advance, she studied dance under Lindsey Kemp (Bowies former teacher) as a ways to make her a more well rounded performer.
@@robertfoster1665 well her first hit was wuthering heights after she was signed and she was already dancing of she had started dancing and she continued. As you said it made her a more well rounded performer. Some people have been signed to record deals with no experience just on record executive opinion. ( appearances or whatever) or attitude. ( sex pistols ect )
Kate Bush was writing all her music from the age of 10 years old. Her album 'The Kick Inside' was No1 in the UK. She wrote every track and this is still unique for a female artist. She's just incredible 👌
A massive unique talent ! She has influenced many artists ....try "hounds of love" by her :)
Now thats a positive energy song, I love positive energy, you two are awesome people
If you check out Wuthering Heights it's based on the novel of the same name. She's singing from the perspective of a ghost. Her voice is unique and her choreography is unusual. Someone said she wrote it when she was quite young.
Yes, The shrieking and the falsetto tones are Kate singing as Cathy. Kate Bush was 19 when that song (Wuthering Heights) went to no 1. The songs from her first two albums she had written in her teenage years. I think The Man With The Child in His Eyes was recorded when she was 15 years old. Remarkable.
@@JohnHarbinger I was nearly called Kate after her.
In an interview, Kate described seeing the ending to the old movie of Wuthering Heights on tv -- the idea came to her then -- but she said she needed to read the entire book *first* in order to really understand the story and the mind of the character....she did her research, pondered, let it process. She wanted authenticity in her telling of the story.
@@mollie3484 Kate was originally baptised Catherine.
Kate Bush is my favorite artist of all time. :) I have been obsessively watching all of the reactions! I still remember the first time I heard Kate Bush, and it was only 12 or so years ago. But her music has changed my life. That sounds a bit corny but its true. She is absolutely incomparable for me.
Kate was definatly a genius and ahead of her time. She was an amazing artist in music, dance and mime. This comes from an album called the Hounds of Love and is one of those rare albums where there isn't a bad song on it. My favourite it the Big Sky but you must do Cloudbusting as the video is like a mini movies and has her playing a boy while her fatehr is played by Donald Sutherland a great british actor.
Donald Sutherland is Canadian
Obviously from Stranger things series 4 and this song means something different if you have watched the series.
It took a few episodes to warm to Stranger things, but it's fire atm 🔥🔥
When this song came out in 1985 I was obsessed! No one sounds like Kate Bush and the mysticism of this song really intrigued me. Now that it’s popular again due to Stranger Things I’m obsessed all over again.
I love when a song gets a resurgence because a tv show has made it popular again but with a younger generation or two. Keeps the great music alive. 37 years old and still such a unique fabulous sound and lyrics. I don't watch Stranger Things but I have a general idea of the theme of the show and this song fits greatly.
Hiya Asia and BJ✋
Hello :)
"It is very much about the power of love, and the strength that is created between two people when they're very much in love, but the strength can also be threatening, violent, dangerous as well as gentle, soothing, loving. And it's saying that if these two people could swap places - if the man could become the woman and the woman the man, that perhaps they could understand the feelings of that other person in a truer way, understanding them from that gender's point of view, and that perhaps there are very subtle differences between the sexes that can cause problems in a relationship, especially when people really do care about each other." - Kate Bush
You gotta hear This Woman's Work
Imagine making over £250,000 a week on a song you wrote in 1985 👌
Think about the time this video was released. MTV nearing its peak, hair metal and new wave. This is vaguely electronic, but it’s so not pop. And the video is even more esoteric and highbrow. Who the hell does interpretive dance to their own song for a video back then? But this is Kate Bush in a nutshell. Zero focks given. She did it her way. That’s why so many people are gratified she’s getting her reward now.
Pure beauty!
As a kid I was in love in Kate Bush and Siouxie Sioux…😉
I don't think there is anyone out there who doesn't love Kate Bush, if there is i have never met them, the female David Bowie, with so much talent & Soul.
Hounds of love is the album this is from her finest album in my opinion ❤🇬🇧😊
Is there one person requesting all the songs for reactors? I've seen this song reacted to by several channels just in the last week alone.
And this song isn't the only one with multiple reactions in a short period of time. There are many others.
Kate wanted to call it A Deal With God, but the record company said it was too controversial, she's been interviewed on the radio since it got to No1 and to her that's what its called.
She is a national treasure, I really hope she makes more music.
Hyper intelligent song writing
What a great reaction and you totally got it. You got great open minds.
I always thought song was her wanting to trade places with a loved one that’s going through something difficult in their lives, possibly even with a dying loved one. She wants to take that hurt and pain away from them because she loves them so much. It’s the ultimate sacrifice. So if she had the chance to make that deal with God, she’d be running to make that deal, up a high hill, up a building even, to relieve her loved one from the ailment. And she’d do it no problem, without even hesitating. It really is a beautiful song. Great reaction guys 🙋🏻♀️👍🏼👏🏼🙌🏼💜🇨🇦
Wife here.."Walk a Day in My Shoes"..U2 are ALWAYS on point as this song was written about Women and Men being able to swap places..She was quite ahead of her time..Big influence on alot of artists..Especially the Lilith Fair Singers of the 90's..!!..Great Reaction.., Soooo Artistic!!
Beautiful song used to great effect in Stranger Things this season. As I recall she was talking about the idea of how much could change if men and women were able to swap places and better understand each other’s perspective. Thanks to the Duffer brothers for introducing a new generation to this gem.
I heard the credit goes to Winona Ryder, they didn’t know what song to use
@@revjim123 Perfect! Should’ve known Winona was lending her 80s expertise.
There are many amazing female artists who don't get a lot of radio airplay because they stay true to their vision of their art. My all time favorite is Florence and the Machine. Please react to them next!
And not only a great artist but a wonderful person in real life too. A bit of a recluse but such a kind lady.
Kate was and is unique, she went away for 30 going on 40 years and never chased fame or money. I admire her for it, back in the day she was hugely famous and she walked away from it all
PLEASE check out other Kate Bush songs she did one with peter Gabriel called don,t give up . I have been a fan since her first album was released in ‘78 the kick inside . Glad to see a new generation discovering her wonderful music .
This song has been used in either a TV series or film and Kate has given her first interview in at least six or more years about it, she's happy that a new generation are finding her music through TV or film,, you'll probably find the interview on RUclips, I very much doubt you'll see Kate it's likely a phone interview, I've lived about five miles from from Kate for over 30 years and we rarely see her in or around the village
Well if you are interested in suggestions for other Kate Bush then you can't go wrong with the other single releases from her iconic album "Hounds Of Love" which were: Cloudbusting, Hounds Of Love, The Big Sky. Kate's next studio album was "The Sensual World" singles from that album included: This Woman's Work, The Sensual World and Love And Anger. From the next studio album "The Red Shoes" you might want to sample: Rubberband Girl, Moments Of Pleasure and The Red Shoes.
Alternatively you might want to start with Kate's debut single "Wuthering Heights" which was a massive worldwide hit, one thing is that Kate deliberately sung the song with a very high register, which sounds very unusual - but was perfect for the subject matter of the song and who Kate was portraying in the song. It also meant that the song was unique compared to what else was in the singles charts. The song reached number 1 in a number of countries, including the UK, Kate's UK number 1 meant that she was the 1st female artist to reach number 1 with a self written song, the first of numerous UK single and album chart milestones and records that Kate has set.
The most recent set of records in relation to RUTH are mentioned in the comments, a unique record was set when RUTH initially re-entered the UK singles chart at number 8, making Kate Bush the 1st female artist to have at least 1 top 12 hit single in the UK chart for six consecutive decades 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s.
This is currently no 1 in the UK charts after 37 years when it was no3. This is because this song is heavily feature in the New Stranger series 4
Great reaction to the Queen of Art Pop🔥
I was quite young when I first saw/heard Kate Bush.
It was a DVD compilation of 80's music videos
The song was "Cloudbusting" (1985) off her "Hounds of Love" album (same one that has "Running up that Hill (A Deal with God" on it). From then on became one of my favorite artists.
Kate is definitely in a league of her own who inspired many artists who came after her (Tori Amos, Bjork, Lorde to name a few).
Kate is every bit of a theatrical/visual performer/storyteller as she is a musical genius/writer/artist and her extensive/legendary discography proves it. Kate Bush was/is featured in an iconic duet with Peter Gabriel on his superb album "So" (1986).
The song is "Don't Give Up."
I reference this song/music video whenever I am in a tough spot or in hard times.
Definitely a song to check out
Love you guys. Listen to a great rock song very few have ever heard - Cheryl's Going Home by The Blues Project. You will be shocked that it was not a major hit.
After 37 Years,America now discovers one of the Greatest Acts in Music History ever.....please react to CLOUDBUSTING (Official Video) with DONALD SUTHERLAND as her Father !
This song broke 3 long-standing music records. I know it hit #1, took the longest time to hit. This is true according to Guinness World Records.
I was 15 when this went to no1 back in 85 , and to be honest I never understood the song or video sang by a weirdo , roll on years later , and I totally understand the song ,video and not sang by a weirdo, but by a very artistic lady expressing her feelings of the song through dance , l love her stuff now . Thankyou
It's about the Heterosexual experience of a Woman desperately trying to get perspective for and from Her Man. If She could swap places they'd find their common ground with clear communication, every obstacle thereafter overcome with ease. The classiest lovers tiff ever commited to music, imo.
Also has a poignant darker background layer about entropy and dying, too.
To see someone you love suffer, and wish to be them if only to take away their pain for a moment...💝
I enjoy your reactions. And I had to smile when watching this reaction. Kate Bush is such a unique and way out there artist that even when she occasionally approaches mainstream, as she does with this song, she makes you work at figuring out what she is doing/saying. it was great to see you working it out in a way you are probably not required to do with a lot of todays music. Please do more Kate Bush songs. She was/is a genius, and arguably one of the greatest ever female singer/songwriters. And please do always try to react to an official Kate Bush music video where the ‘art’ is at least a match for the song.
she is iconic! and just another one of my Baby dolls! she is so brilliant!
You guys need to react to Portishead. Their lead singer is the legendary Beth Gibbons who features on Kendrick's latest album on 'Mother I Sober'. The tracks 'Roads', 'Glory Box' and 'Wandering Star' are good places to start ✌️
Good call on Portishead! Thanks for the suggestion. Seconded!!
It's such a incredible song just shows you how a head of the time she actually was this song sounds like nothing you have heard before, that electro retro 80's sound and that haunting vocal is really amazing, the fact it's turned into a Global Mega Hit dominating the Airplay & streaming charts globally 37 years after its initial release is incredible what a testament to her artistry and how great she is musically!
This song is just mesmerizing...
Ahh this is where I became a KB fan from back then and now back on the charts for a new generation / again written arrangements and produced by KATE BUSH put some respect on my girls name please
I find it helps to think of Kate Bush as a performance artist who uses music as her medium. This song is SO open to interpretation. It literally comes to mind anytime I have a hard time but you can also interpret it in a very Freudian sense (which I suspect Kate would love.) You can think of this song about a relationship, about love, about youth versus aging, about wealth versus poverty, about family of origin. If I only could, I'd make a deal with god and get him to swap our places.
She's singing about being able to have a empathic understanding of the other part in a relationship. While being absorbed by oneself it is difficult and hindering, making one unaware of the hurting of the other part. If, though, she could exchange places with the other part and see things through the other parts eyes, creating a (mutual) understanding, she would have no problems facing the challenges in the relationship.
It is a very beautiful song in every aspect.
My bestie loved this song to this day he plays it regularly 😃
Interpretive dance....brilliant....
Y’all have to be my favorite reactors. I love you both so much. Especially Asia. No offense to BJ, just lady things, ladies have more in common. And Asia is so sweet and pretty and funny 💕❤️ I just love you guys.
Love her music! She deserves #1 , if not then, then now she's getting recognized! Big Boi from Outkast, is big fan. RUclips has video of his love of this song on here. Thanks for reacting!!
