I almost got a Razr 2023. But, I found that you can get a Flip 4 refurb from Amazon for around $350. The Flip 4 is a better phone in ALL ways compared to the Razr 2023. There are 2 things that annoy me about flip phones. The 1st is that they're thick when folded and barely fit in my pants' pockets due to that. 2nd, I use my phone enough to where flipping is becoming a hassle. I thought getting a flip would cause me to use my phone less, but not the case. If when I go to replace my Flip 4 in 2 years or so, I might be willing to try a foldable if I can find an unlocked one at a reasonable price (to me, $599 is the max I spend on a phone unlocked)
Ive had my motorola razr 2023 for a week so far and it's been a great phone, had no problems with it. And its been a very popular phone i have been selling. I had no customer complain about it.
I remember when iPhone 4s was the hotness and it worked smoothly. They are really making us buy their new shit all the time. How are we letting them? All I want is a tough compact phone that does the basics. Yes I use an iPhone SE in an effort to fight screen addiction.
Its the first real budget option in the folding phone market give it one or two generations to get the software and camera in order and that could be a really great option to get the folding phones in the mainstream market.
When I watch a review for a particular product I expect the main focus to be about that particular product I understand about showing differences in phones but I feel like you were just trying to promote me the razor Plus
Not sure why you say transitions stutter and apps take a few seconds more to load .... my phone is so snappy, in fact it is too fast. You just have to touch the phone with an intention to swip up and it does it. It is over responsive and a tad too fast compared to iPhone and other Android phones I have. Apps load super fast. It would have be the snappiest, swiftest phones I've ever uesed. I use Ready For, wirelessly, with my 7 year old Samsung TV and there is no lag whatsoever. It is amazing. Mind blown. I'd heard about Bixby but not about Ready For. What an amazing surprise. Perhaps its your demo device that is slow. And no mention of the 33w fast charger or the frosted clear plastic case or the perfumed box???
I have a Moto Razr. Got it to replace my G8. There are many things I miss about the G8 but I think it's fine. This review is extremely accurate, especially about the camera. It sucks, especially compared to the great camers my LG G8 had. I still just use my LG for most stuff still. I have a DSLR anyway.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is not really a bad chip, but an example like Honor 90 with the accelerated edition might have better optimization all round. Or using dimensity
Razor Minus should be its official name I think it sounds super cute and is a much neeeded counterpart to all these PRO MAX ULTRA nonense - so go "Razor Minus" :D
I like the idea of having a little puck that tells me if I have anything worth looking at (and the time) that I can drop in my pocket. That I can also expand if I want to torture myself with some doom scrolling. But, ueh. The last two phones I have had I had to give up because of durability issues and already I have seen so many images of the screens on these just being completely busted at the fold. It isn't too, too expensive but I don't know if I want to do that again.
We don't all want all of the apps displayed on the outside screen. I've had 2 Samsung Flips (3 and 4) and the outside screen is the same size. I recently bought a Motorola Razr that I am looking forward to using, minus the phatware that always comes with a Samsung phone. Also, the original Motorola Razr was my first phone and so it is neat to buy one 20 something years later when it is improved as a smart device with all the frills.
@@TheMrMobile I agree, however the 7s gen 2 is still a faster chip than the gen 1 and it has shown up in 180 Euro Redmi note 13 pro - therefore definitely not an expensive choice. Perhaps, the next iteration will be that perfect bang for buck foldable the market needs.
I’m almost positive that the Motorola + coming next year might be the best flipping phone of 2024 or the second best cause I’m sure Motorola will address all the compromises like using the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, addressing the hinge and an even better camera, software and IP Rating(Thou not sure of the IP rating) but they’ll likely raise it to IP54 to make it better at least to match up to the industry standard… But that’ll be till we see it
I bought this phone and yeah I can agree with you on the camera and maybe one or two software smoothness issues but hey what can you expect for $500. That being said I don't mind because I bought it specifically to not be on my phone so much. I can't really speak for anyone else.
@@lovescarguitar Yeah, but like I said I bought it so that way there isn't a screen staring at me so I can resist the temptation to just be on my phone all day.
I loved this phone. To one day the screen got a black dot right in fold. Well today the screen went completely black with a line visibly deeper than I've ever seen. Only had the phone 3 months and Motorola wants to much to cover fixing it. Save your money
This phone is king in its own category: flip phone with small outer display. To be fair there is only one competitor: a Flip 4 refurbished (ok Oppo has something too) and this has the better hinge. But this might be a good comparision video: what is better value today? Getting a one year old Samsung or a modern Motorola Basic.
I adore this form factor but as I found out on my flip 5 the cameras are too big a compromise for a dad of two who loves taking photos. So my pixel 8 pro will remain till a folder with a premium camera appears.
It's a little old now but would love to see you do a video on the Motorola Edge+ 2023. That phone is going for $599 with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 512GB. Maybe a combo video with the smaller Edge 2023 selling for $350.
My old phone with SD765G still works just fine (the only apps that lag are the Google's ones). So it must be either a more demanding latest Android version or a bad optimization. P.S. After a second thought, maybe they had to limit the performance due to the thermal footprint. It's rather thin and heat dissipation may not be as good as on a slab.
I'm pretty sure it's not android, I've not noticed any additional load on android itself since android 8, everything since has been incredibly iterative.
ooo, a foldable I'm willing to pay for. But I require a headphone jack. Wouldn't that be awesome? Play music folded up, use the little screen as an MP3 player?
I gotta say, I can drop my cheap regular smartphone on it's screen and not break it. But yours got a black bar when that happened. Makes me still weary of foldables. I'm still interested jut... gotta work up the courage. If they make another cheap foldable, with a headphone jack then I'll go for it.
I haven't watched your videos in a minute and boy do I regret it! Your impeccable attention to detail and incredible ability to orate... One of the greatest reviewers on RUclips
I didnt know you were gonna make a video on this phone. I got this razr about a month ago and its a good phone for the price. Sure it has some flaws like the camera. But honestly for the price this phone is full of features that most phone dont for this price. You cant really hate the phone when for $500 you get a foldable
I still have a Gen 1 Razr flip and its aged bad. I also damaged my front screen but weirdly enough cracked the screen under the protective glass? How does that happen? I made the mistake of having my carrier send me a replacement... Carriers love to send refurbished over new via their insurance agreement and well... its worse than the first one I had with the broken cover screen... much slower, the main camera doesnt even work anymore, the phone shuts down at 20% battery unless battery saver is on... I love the flip... but between my experiences with my carrier and Motorola, I am contemplating Samsungs as my next. Sorry to rant, thanks for your informative videos as usual! Cant wait for the next!
I still stand by saying going to the basic foldable design as a bad decision for the razr because it lost all that made it unique at least to me and tbh the only thing that will get me to consider it over the Samsung alternative would be them adding the headphone jack back into the phone its that much of a selling point to me
I agree at a headphone jack and an SD card. That said I don't blame them for abandoning the nostalgic razor look because it just came to look so dated. Especially on the resale market. But it does suck their phones increasingly look the same. At least they are offered that amazing magenta color and that full screen which was announced long before Samsung was a game changer. And you don't need good lock or anything to open it up to every app. Although it's kind of odd how originally Samsung fans were saying how you wouldn't want to be able to open every app that's not the point.... And then once good lock developers came up with a solution they changed the goal post and was like see Samsung can do it too. I'm generalizing of course, just some of the more egregious Samsung cheerleaders. And I love Samsung I have Galaxy buds and a Galaxy tab and I even have my old Note 9 laying around which I still occasionally use. But second to Apple their fans are the most annoying and sometimes even more so since I only hang out in Android spaces

Finally an honest review. I tested the camera in store and it wasn’t nearly as good as my iPhone 12. I’ll wait till another flip phone comes out with the same price but better cameras.
They had to rebrand rubber as “vegan leather” because of the unfair stigma around having any plastic or polycarbonate on phones, despite its durability
So about as good as a ~$100 phone means the foldable premium is about $400. Not worth it IMO. I know you love foldables Michael so it's good more offerings are entering the space. Top notch review as always. Feel better!
If you're looking for a cheaper flip phone, a refurbished Samsung flip 4 might also be an option. Just picked one up for $300, like new condition. Has the newer gen 8 processor (same as razr+) and better camera. So far, loving it!
3:18 - I absolutely cringed at that and it brought back the time my Z Flip 4 also did a similar drop, with the only difference being it was closed. Never the less, Michael ooooooooooooooouch.
People give mid range phones such a hard time. The camera not galaxy s26 ultra ultra Maxx triple x maxxx capital S galaxy. It's not supposed to lol it's miles better than any budget phone I've used though!
With smartphones becoming way too big and manufacturers no longer producing smaller smartphones with screens between 4,3" and 5", I'd say the flip smartphones are the future, because they accomodate both qualities into 1 device: 1. Having a large screen, and 2. Converting into a small pocketable size when not in use. I'm still waiting for technology to evolve on this category, as these foldable smartphones still suffer from lack of durability and high price tags, not to mention the issue with the lack of software updates across the years compared to what Apple already accustomed us to for 15 years or more.
Honestly, I'd be more than willing to put up with the shortfalls mentioned in the video, unfortunately, the ONLY way to get any Razr here in Ireland is to pay full price in a big box electronics store. None of the major carriers (Eir, Three, Vodafone) even offer it, which is why ended up going for the Z Flip 5 when my contract came up for renewal. I suspect that Samsung's negotiating power with carriers is going to effectively scupper the Razr outside the US, rather than the technical issues.
I love this still of folding phones, much more than the ones that fold like a book. These resemble old flip phones and they fold up smaller, which is nice. I wish Google would make a foldable Pixel like this. I'd be in for sure.
I switched from Android to iPhone 3 years ago and only reason i'd switch back to android is if they make a flip phone really appealing. This Moto Razr really looks good but I wont get a phone slower than my current phone High end Leather Phone please . I'm a no case guy
I would go back to a razr at this price if it just had that classic razr atheistic like it had before. Now it just looks like another foldable. No nostalgia factor. I need that chin!
I love Mr Mobile...best review videos out there...and I love Moto phones...but don't ever, EVER buy direct from Moto...their customer service shows they truly hate their customers...buy from an actual retailer or you'll regret it...keep up the great work Mr Mobile!!!
well, you pay for what you get. You are lucky if you get 1 major update with a phone like this. Dont forget you also pay for the support a company puts in a phone series. If a pixel foldable or samsung foldable is more expensive than a motorola (or Xiaomi, or Oppo) keep in mind, its also 4-6 years of more updates (security counts as well!) they are offering for your phone.

Me at the start: “$499 for a foldable! What a time to be alive!”
Me now: “$199 for a foldable! What a freaking time to be alive!!”
Ive had my motorola razr 2023 for a week so far and it's been a great phone, had no problems with it. And its been a very popular phone i have been selling. I had no customer complain about it.
Thinking of getting this phone what are your likes and dislikes?
I remember when iPhone 4s was the hotness and it worked smoothly.
They are really making us buy their new shit all the time.
How are we letting them?
All I want is a tough compact phone that does the basics.
Yes I use an iPhone SE in an effort to fight screen addiction.
Its the first real budget option in the folding phone market give it one or two generations to get the software and camera in order and that could be a really great option to get the folding phones in the mainstream market.
Watching this on my flip . Use it for my work phone but above par for everything . Social media. Email. Etc ...great phone for a great price !
How about the lagging part.... I dont care about the camera i just want a smooth day2day use... I really like the design so im considering
@@MetapodUsedHarden9 phone performs just fine with no lag to me
@@AveryatTwoohFive alright then thank u
Thank you for showing the Menora, Michael. I respect you even more now than before. 👍
Even when i feel it is not mature, i love this folding revolution, nice video Mr. Fisher
Hey Mr. Mobile. Thank you for the great review. I'm hoping you feel better soon!
They could have easily gone with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 on this and made it a much better overall experience.
I'd wager it was all about getting the bill of materials low enough to produce a cheap foldable at scale. 7 Gen 1 has gotta be substantially cheaper.
@@SMTahmidthe phone was designed and created way before 7s gen 2 came into the picture
Hope you're feeling better, Michael! Do you have any plans to do more long-term-use reviews on the motorola foldables?
Pixels use to be at that price point and still did not have those issues.
@@lovescarguitar Yeah, but like I said I bought it so that way there isn't a screen staring at me so I can resist the temptation to just be on my phone all day.
The double tap on the outer screen for the camera doesn't work. Do I have to activate this function? I couldn't find any option in the settings.
I just returned the plus, it had way too many heat issues. Also, an area of the screen that didn't work without any drops.
I wanna see tcl on the tech market i dont feel like im hearing them enough.
Sadly, TCL seems to have abandoned its ambitious high-end efforts in favor of mid-range products. I dig their e-paper competitor though.
2:40 did you make those Flight wall pictures yourself? I like the Idea to have it as a memory.
I wish the thickness of these things would be as thick as a normal phone while folded. this is what I am waiting for.
I still miss your windows phone reviews!
I was genuinely planning to buy this and was feeling sad that there is no review from you on this. Guess the 1st minute saved me 😂
Please note that the noise reduction setting states that it is for VoIP calls.
ooo, a foldable I'm willing to pay for. But I require a headphone jack.
Wouldn't that be awesome? Play music folded up, use the little screen as an MP3 player?
I got mine for a free upgrade and mine doesn't seem as laggy or as bad. My camera is great... Maybe software update helped??
I gotta say, I can drop my cheap regular smartphone on it's screen and not break it.
But yours got a black bar when that happened. Makes me still weary of foldables.
I'm still interested jut... gotta work up the courage.
If they make another cheap foldable, with a headphone jack then I'll go for it.
He didn't drop his phone, he threw it across the room...
You cant really hate the phone when for $500 you get a foldable
how is it holding up?
Hey Michael! Quick idea for a video? A 'Re-look' at the Lenovo 'Think Phone' seeing that it too is now heavily discounted in price since launch? As 'Tech Odyssey' recently did on his channel, it's shaped up to be a pretty attractive choice for its new low price! 🤔😏👍
😎🇬🇧
Speedy recovery Michael!
Finally an honest review. I tested the camera in store and it wasn’t nearly as good as my iPhone 12. I’ll wait till another flip phone comes out with the same price but better cameras.
I could tell while watching your video and hearing ur voice that you didn't sound like someone who's feeling well. Wishing you a fast recovery.
I work at a phone store and I actually really like the design of this phone.
Too bad the mini tablet sized foldables aren’t getting price cuts. These flip phones are just a worse regular slab phone that can fold in half.
That „sharpening“ pun… nice. 😊
Great review, Michael
So glad to hear Mrs Mobile get a mention (Michaels mum) 😊😊 great review as always, thank you ❤❤
this looks like a great entry flip phone for kids in middle school and high school ----- just like when I had an original Razr in HS.
Michael, AI will not be able to generate script like you do, never! The best-script-tech-youtuber, period!
Would have been really cool if they'd placed a proper qwerty-keyboard on lower half instead of betting on display hinge.
Get well soon Michael, and thanks for another banger.
I was actually waiting for your reviews before deciding on the Razr models... glad I did
With smartphones becoming way too big and manufacturers no longer producing smaller smartphones with screens between 4,3" and 5", I'd say the flip smartphones are the future, because they accomodate both qualities into 1 device: 1.
Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for being honest and informative!
Looking at this vid thru my moto razr 2023. I love my phone. Got it for less than 300 😊
I love this still of folding phones, much more than the ones that fold like a book. These resemble old flip phones and they fold up smaller, which is nice. I wish Google would make a foldable Pixel like this. I'd be in for sure.
Any phone that makes LACRS software/Apps slow and glitchy, is out for me. LOL
Thank you for another honest review.
I switched from Android to iPhone 3 years ago and only reason i'd switch back to android is if they make a flip phone really appealing.
This Moto Razr really looks good but I wont get a phone slower than my current phone
High end Leather Phone please . I'm a no case guy
Why can't it have physical keyboard?
I would go back to a razr at this price if it just had that classic razr atheistic like it had before. Now it just looks like another foldable. No nostalgia factor. I need that chin!
I love Mr Mobile...best review videos out there...and I love Moto phones...but don't ever, EVER buy direct from Moto...their customer service shows they truly hate their customers...buy from an actual retailer or you'll regret it...keep up the great work Mr Mobile!!!
I got mine from Cricket for $350....I had the Razr + earlier in the summer...I like the cheaper one better. Build Quality Seems like it's 10x better.
6:22 Wait whoa!!! Where were you around all that eurorack gear???
This is what I call an intro!!
3:20 OUCH! Is that why you started using your Viva Magenta Razr+ over your Glacier Blue one?
IT'S HAPPENING!!
well, you pay for what you get.
3:23 NGL I winced badly at that. Like when you dropped that XPS 13.
Merry Christmas MrMobile 😊
I got one an I think it's fine can't beat 399.99 I sold my s23 ultra an I honestly don't miss it either
