Anyone who gave thumbs down possibly doesn't quite realize the implications of Windows 10 running in a virtual machine with x86 support on an ARM64 single board computer (perfectly or otherwise). This is mind-blowing! Well done, Don.

we can do it, on linux. and better for most parts. it's cool to have it. but for real tinkering, linux arm all the way.

After some fiddling, it was indeed possible to get the Network Adapter working. You will need to install the Windows Kernel Debugger Network Driver, and some manual commands. I had some issues, but resolved after disabling Local Area Connection* and just use that Debugger Adaptor. Works also after reboots, so thats pretty awesome.

Just an FYI, the reason that you can run 32bit and not 64bit on this is because when an intel porcessor processor is switched into long mode or native 64bit mode, its not backward compatable with 32bit protected mode. So windows has to emulate 32bit mode (WoW64 Winodows on Windows 64bit) to run 32bit apps. Compiling the OS to support ARM uses the same source tree and has brought that emulation layer over. Bascially an emulator in a VM. It's not that difficult to port the OS over to other processors, (if you look back in history we had support for, DEC ALPHA, IBM Power PC, MIPS and Itanium), it was desgined that way. The difficult part is mainly driver support as thats in the realm of the hardware vendors to produce binaries for the kernel for specific arch's. Great Vid!! Very cool.

the only way i could get Windows 10 bootable was using the Other/OtherOS template. i tried all combos, but this was the only one working for me with the latest Arm Fling anf UEFI package.

Brilliant work, great video, very impressive.
In the automotive sector there is currently a silicon shortage, partly due to the pandemic, but also poor design, silicon duplication is everywhere, average of 800 dollars spent per unit, using very dated tech, almost every tech operation is very simple, some one needs to show the automotive sector how it is done, one or two raspberry pi device's could do every task on a regular car, I would love to see a car completely run from a raspberry pi, this could be potentially be reducing the carbon footprint of car production and manufacturing cost and maybe increase efficiency of vehicles using this relatively modern low power tech.

I guess now one can host an instance of Mikrotik's Netinstall and Dude server, x86 build without a PC or a Routerboard. Winbox and Dude already works using like wine for example, but if I remember correctly the latter can only run in client mode that way. On the other hand if audio and usb sharing really works, retro gaming enthusiasts can buy the Sound Canvas VA and make a nice softsynth out of it without a PC or a Mac. Maybe some properitary x86 built motorvehicle diagnostic software through RDP and wifi on the go. Checking all the garbage or bronze rated software in the winehq database could come handy. I've came too far from the Windows world so no real useful ideas here, just thinking out loud. :)

Hey Don, how about a challenge: Using Raspberry 0 w as your main PC for a day or three?
I'm sugesting this because in 2012, Chris from Explaining Computers used Rpi2 as his PC for a week. Now in 2021, covid made more jobs change to the online model, and here in Brazil the prices of computers got very high. As i'm using my Rpi4 for main computer for a whole year, ive had a really good experience on manjaro with sway etc. Many wonder what can be used or not in Rpi0w, so this test could be great. Some details to make the sugestion working:
-SYSTEM: raspberry OS. Maybe you get a better experience with arch, dietPi or even Gentoo idk.
-DESKTOP ENVIROMENT: change the LXDE to sway or i3 (novaspirit has a great tutorial on this). Maybe 540p resolution would be better
-PROGRAMS: abiword instead of libreoffice, gimp?, firefox with lightweight extensions or some terminal browser (i can sugest more tips on this topic)
-HARDWARE RECOMENDATIONS: SSD or HD with external powering instead of the microSD memory, a good microSD or even leepspvideo's PiSafe's eMMC to boot, keyboard with dongle, cable management, and of course a great usb hub or the GPIO shild with more USBs, overclock and a little heatsink
-CHALLENGES: try typing some text, light image and audio editing, youtube playback with h264ify or pasting the link in vlc, gaming (even light PS1 games works), benchmarks, light versions of sites like gmail and facebook, video or audio conferences, multitasking in general with htop, wine, DRM, ssh, cmatrix of course, etc

@@512mb4 Yea, I have already build ISOs :) It seems my problem (perhaps) was related to the fact I built the ISO in a Windows 2016 VM. The ISO would boot but go directly to recovery mode. Now I managed to build an ISO in a Windows 10 VM - but this one boots forever. But I call that progress so perhaps I would be able to install Win 10 today let's see :)
