As of right now, using this setup would take like 5 years to win. Difficulty is skyrocketing.
Great video! I've been wanting to give this a go for a while!
Thanks for the vid, mate. It’s a nice little beginner vid. What would be great to see (and what I actually expected to see) is some hard core raspberry pi Chia farm, with in-depth research into what is the maximum farming capacity of the raspberry pi 4 in terms of HDDs connected to one Pi and network and interface bandwidth limitations and etc etc
Great video Don👍🏻 Interesting topic. I might try it out some time.
Nice Video! Informative as always :D
Great video Don! And thanks so much for the mention! I'm glad to hear I've been helpful in your quest toward farming Chia :) One day (soon!) there will be safe public pools, and then it won't be 2 months for a reward... can't wait! That was some clever advice regarding the spindle drive for plotting via Raspberry Pi. It may be slow, but that won't be the bottleneck with a Pi, so why burn out an SSD? Personally, I like to plot on my gaming computer (using a USB 3.1 NVMe chassis) and then move my farm drive over to the Pi 4. -Robbie
Thank you for this video my dude. This answered aloy of questions I had.
How many drives can i plug in with the usb powered hub? I want to plot on my PC and farm with the Pi.
Hey man do you know if its possible to run sas hard drives on a pi 4?
How much time to get a plot or 1TB ready for farming? (Made with raspberry)
How long will a hard drive or SSD last with all this plotting?
What would you suggest for plotting on a limited budget?
How much Internet data or bandwidth is required for chia farming
where can i find those 3 headed sata to usb adapter?
How long does 1 plot take on the pi
Is it practical with just a Raspberry pi 4 and drives?
Can you use a sencecap m1 as chia miner ( it is a 4g pie if i am right) ?
Nice video Don, do you plan to make a video for IO board and CM4? What would config look like? Ubuntu desktop 21.04 on eMMC? How would you power hard drives connected to SATA PCI?
I am assuming the Parallel plotting is limited to the 4 cores of the Pi?
Thanks for the tutorial. How many HDDs we can attach with one Rasberry Pi4?
Great video!!! One pointer. You said the the concept of mining with harddisk space is new, but it really isn't. I've mined the coin BURST for years which uses the same concept. Keep up the good work. :)
bro can you tell me how chia can auto start when pi start?
Novaspirit Tech, Thank you for your video "Real-Time Voice Cloning with Deep Learning" 2019
CHIA is already a dead-end, price of entry is already way too high, network difficulty is out of this world and for now it's still basically solo mining.
CHIA don't solve anything when it comes to clean mining, hard drives are not environmental friendly and things can quickly go deeper if you start to take in account the human rights and slave labors aspect... Cough... WD... Thailand... Cough...
Great content as always my brother and have a great week
Blocked. Trol..
WoW - nice video, i‘love what you do with the raspi … ;-) i‘m also a big „pi“ Enthusiast … i‘love it …
Great Video!
Do you need to Re-Plot a drive after some time? Or do the plots last forever?
Currently the plots used are k32. In the future (~5-10yr) this will be obsolete and k34 will become the standard. Then replotting will be needed.
Also if you have plots that are not NFT plots, which are used for pooling, you would have to replot if you want to pool.
Its been two years - any new or updates regarding Chia?
Could you use nfs mount rather than direct attach? I have a free 100Tb on a very fast naz
To mine from yes, but to plot is still very slow vs directly mounted to sata
@@NovaspiritTech just thinking could I use multiple pis to plot, then use different pis to mine. With setting out a A schedule of which device is working on which space on the nfs share. Good for thought
nice golden fruit analogy!
Love the video, will this also work for the R-Pi 3?
Unlikely. You need 4GB RAM and a 64-bit O.S (most people use Ubuntu 21.04 64-bit for this). Would it really be worth it to attempt on a RPi3, except as a proof-of-concept? Probably not.
this is great! The farming drive(s) needs to be on all the time. What can we do to keep the drives from going into power save mode?
don't use sleep mode on your operating system and in your BIOS it may have advanced power control options(sometimes its like: Allow devices to power down to save power YES/NO).
@@mikehensley78 not in rasberry pi.
@@ScottPlude oh! yeah. no bios. hmm.
yeah plotting with the PI 4 8gb takes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer and thermal throttleing really hurts the speed as well
How long did it take to plot? 12hrs+ just as a reference?
right around that ball park, plotting on my gaming laptop takes about 18ish hrs on a i5 intell chip.
Doesn't chia destroy your storage?
my internet is LTE and I am very limited to how much data I can use over time does chia coin use a lot of data to run?
No, it needs storage space locally.
There is an issue with your time calculation. You did note plotting on a beefier machine makes sense, but it should be considered in the time. That 2 month time in the video doesn't including plotting time.
You have to wait until the firs plot is created. This would increase a value of this vid by 50%
Thanks Don.
"invested" in a Dell server with 8HDD hot swaps.. 96TB storage and some nvme drives to plot... Lets see how this goes..
Great - now the storage market gets f*cked up as well...
If you are using consumerated hardware then you will definitely wear it out much faster than it was designed to handle.
Why dont try the duinocoin xxhash miner? It uses RAM to solve a task. DuinoCoin is a crypto that can be mined on arduinos, routers, smartphones, sbcs etc.
hes called revoxhere
becareful with TB and TiB ;-) is very different size in this ... TiB is bigger then TB ... i try plotting on rpi cluster and is terrible ... and plotting on hdd is self kill :D :D it take e few days, maybe weeks ... i plotting on enterprise servers with ent. ssd drives because have high TBW ...
but for start for someone who want to test chia you make great tutorial ofcourse. Nice work ...
and is very too late start .. actualy for start farming is everything under 1PiB is useless ... im now comming for 2EiB and is too low ... thats is true and reality ...
How do you create a shared folder on Linux with windows?
Is that Ubuntu arm version?
Yes
@@AlKaBen Roger that
Unless you have petabytes of space, it's entirely pointless to mine. I tried with 13 TB a few weeks ago and it wasn't enough to get anything.
of course you have some result , if you where to continue you will just kill your drive... i don't understand the hype for that crypto, it's insane dumb
@@totalgaara it's insane that people are still pretending you can win
With literally ANY capacity, a ROI period is about 3 years. You must consider a price you pay for "petabytes". It will merely return after 3 years, if the "developers" will not disappear after they sell pre-mined chips.
yes,It's so strong.
I'm really hopeful that because the wording is different when regulation hits it'll still be in a grey area.
1st was gpus
Now it’s ssds
Anyone else expecting 3d printing Chia pets?
You can start farming chia coin right away if you buy plots !
I think at this point everybody not in is just waiting for pools to come lol
I'm calling BS, I have a pi that constantly crashes trying to farm this coin I've followed your guide like I have many others and it all ends up the same it crashes at table 3 doesn't go past 6 percent
You can use Intel DC drives for endurance rated SSD drives that won't burn out so fast like consumer drives would. New ones are crazy expensive but used ones are reasonable. Or just buy extended warranties before they exclude SSD drives.🤦♂️🤣
I was going to give it a try with old laptop hard drives
@@chrisspencer6502 If using laptop SSD's you will kill them pretty quick. If regular HDD's it'll be slow.
@@ShinyTechThings no 500gb spindles old laptop hhd.
Every laptop for the past 5 years or I pulled the hard drive before recycling them for friends and family.
@@chrisspencer6502 Well the price is definitely right! I would check all of their S.M.A.R.T. statistics just to make sure they should be stable for storage.
we need 2nd video
..and this is why HDD prices are getting stupid...
I blame public schools…
@@briankuhn7396 I blame private schools for promoting magical thinking
I don't understand why anyone would do this. Are you making money from it?
I want to voice my cartoons . "Cartoon Animator v4.4"
no pools everyone is screwed lol the moment there is maybe it will grow the value of the coin.
Plotted on raspberry pi 4 8GB for around two weeks. Time of reward = 37 years.
What do you mean by this?
@@banish7240 Thats the time in which you will break even. Chia has become impossible by this point anyway. Only big farms with 200+ tb can make money. Its the same with bitcoin mining. You have to have a lot of cash to make cash...
Good luck winning any coin solo mining. Because its not going to happen. Anyone getting in now, you better hope for pools. Enterprise storage has entered the space. I've been plotting for 2 weeks now. 3 plots per day and my time to win is still well over 2 years.
Chia plotting process is extremely resources intensive work. And any consumer drive will die within 2 months.
Chia is marketed as green but its far from it.
When pools open you will be forced to replot your drives. So much E-waste.
Hi! What do you think about the RAM disk for plotting? Like this: ruclips.net/video/6qTuPM4nJyI/видео.html
This is declared faster and unlimited resource, unlike the SSD.
Everyone grab that key and donate money slowly over years and let's see if he notices.
spinning rust ftw!
привет из будущего, где нужно 24 тБ на сто лет ожидания блока!
So it's a game with no winners and you don't even get a free rubber duck lol.
So many ads on this video I don't even want to watch it anymore
use ADBlock , I use on desktop never seen an ad on my browser, only on my cel phone on youtube app
:(
There are tech's not supposed to used in this world...like mining. It using alot of resources that leading to bloated hardware prices and nontheless the CO2 overhead...which accomplished nothing, except some early Adopter who get a quick buck
No you do NOT create a plot, farm it, then delete and create a new one. Please go back and read documentation before releasing a video about chia farming.
This is such a horrible idea. The odds of you getting a block reward are beyond what a typical person can farm and mine. Good luck though! Lol.
if you're doing this at home, solo mining, you won't win. check reddit.
It's pronounced OOBOONTOO.
OOBANTOO doesn't exist.
hey slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww plis
Please don't encourage this stuff.
I sell plots !
I was thinking the same thing. Wouldn't it be easier just to sell plots? And what equipment would u use if u were just only selling plots and no farming?
@@robertjackson8613 some enterprise level Nvme drives and multi thread processors like AMD threadrippers. Depends really on cost of equipment vs availability.
