Definitely post here. I've been wanting to put a computer in my car since I saw cappuccino and miniITX computers hit the market and streetdeck from mp3car years ago.
Hi from Australia! The car I bought couple of years ago has a shitty aftermarket stereo without Bluetooth and the aftermarket rear cam died so replacing them both with Crankshaft on a RasPi 4 sounds like a good fit.
Modding my pc/home has never phased me. Modding my car has always fascinated me but made me wary. I keep thinking I will cross wires and my stereo will short out my abs system. Lol. I would love to see more RPI car mods.
I just installed an rpi 3 in my car and ran it to the composite in on the back of the head unit. I'm planning on adding a system like what's in the Mercedes-Benz for navigating around it
Post the videos here man... Im working on a similar project too so looking forward to your finding. We are also looking at automating some stuff in the car too.
I'd make a separate channel for full-on car stuff (mechanical, and non-tech related). I remember hearing other creators say that going too far outside your "typical" genre of videos can have a negative impact on you algorithmically. Granted, I have no idea if this is true, as I just watch videos and barely ever make any, but I have heard it more than once, so it might be worth checking in to.
I got to the point that Crankshaftb logo comes up and a progress bar shows up but then the system reboots. Raspberry Pi 4 and a Uctronics uc-595 7" monitor. I don't know what to do?
How many people have to watch this episode for you to afford the $29? Also,I always thought "open" stands for "open", such as "open to changes and compile it yourself, because sourcecode".
There is actually a checkbox to rotate the screen in the settings tab. Settings > CS Base > Screen Orientation It also changed the touch so that's a plus! I'm actually thinking to add this to my car too... It only got a built-in radio with absolutely no way of playing digitally connected devices. Only thing I would like to know is if it's possible to add a DAB+ receiver and use that. Great thing to play with.
Yea crankshaft is old news id really suggest spend 30 bucks and get a software key for bluewave studio open auto pro it continues to get better also with the forum for everyone that has or doesn't have open auto pro you can find solutions for any issues u run into or u figure out how to get new software or hardware to work and it continues to grow and get better and better

Dr Don - do you guys get the Raspberry Pi TV Hat in the US? It'd be an interesting addition to that device, would potentially give you digital radio to an extent too.
Hi, how about the powering off/on? is raspberry has safe shutdown when ignition off? I'm worried about the corrupted OS if power lost without safe shutdown
Man, I'm working on a custom build for my Lexus RX, which doesn't have doubleDIN support, but after months of searching, I found an adequate screen & dash kit. Just waiting on other parts, touch screen and LVDS driver boards. On the subject of GPIO, is there an option for a button that triggers the Raspi official camera or a USB webcam? Or should I consider OpenAuto in favor of crankshaft for that action.
Subscribed! Congrats on the WRX! I'm on my 2nd STI (hawkeye) and i've been thinking about doing this for a long time now, but never actually got around to it. I have a old Clarion CX603 (4x50w) double din since 2008 -- it was on my04 STI and I replaced the stock my07 STI head unit with it. I thought about replacing the Clarion with a cheap ATOTO head unit from Amazon but then why not build my own and customize it, right? I'm glad you also have the same car because that way I can see how you do the bezels and mount it, etc. Anyways, how's it coming along?
It's been great, no heat issues and hasn't blown up. Installation wise it has no problems but there are a few things I would upgrade, instead of using a lapel mic I would use a bluetooth one instead to save the hassle of taking things apart and also some stuff in the software I would love to change too
