  • so this is a vlog i filmed the week before i was diagnosed with diabetes. looking back now, it's crazy to see how bad i was doing and i am SO glad nothing really dangerous happened before i checked myseld into the ER
    disclaimer: i am NOT a medical professional in any way, shape, or form. this video was made to show some potential symptoms of diabetes and my own personal experience before i was diagnosed. if you think that something is wrong, i highly recommend going to see a medical professional to get the help you need.

      You barely could talk or breathe it seemed like it was all your strength just to talk, you definitely was in Dka, I was told when my sugars are slightly off my Friend s said I slurr my words, I was told that I had the flu for 2 weeks, I thought I was going into a big flare up, I was also drinking alot, lost weight and was told if I wouldn't have went to work instead of home, I wouldn't. Be telling this story, my stubbornness saved My life

    Wow…so scary at the end. I’m so glad you are ok. I was just diagnosed with diabetes on Monday this week. I went to Walmart and got one of their cheap reli on glucose meters. I had been feeling weird and am at a greater risk because it runs in the family and I had it while pregnant. So I decided to start testing and had some really high readings, I made an appointment right away and they got me right in. I kept really good track of everything. Sugar levels, what I ate, any medications and when I took them. They were able to diagnose it very quickly. My glucose levels were about 172 fasting. They want it to be about 100 or less in the mornings.

    I was diagnosed in 2005, I was 5 years old so I don't remember too much about my diagnosis and absolutely nothing before. Thank you for sharing this, I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I am glad someone was able to get this recorded since it is so unexpected.

    So crazy that you filmed this whole period! I remember my diagnosis in Sept 2007 - I literaly fell asleep at work, like being on a jet-lag. But I was also super thirsty all the time and my eye sight got really bad. That is when I went to see an eye doctor.... and then to another doctor where they tested my blood sugar and I found out. Hope you are doing better and have gotten to grips with the illness! Take care and persevere - we are in this together

I didn’t crave water I craved like juice, fizz, orange juice (and I hate oarnge juice) any thing that was liquid with flavor pretty much. my skin was super splotchy and I was just sooo sick and didn’t even know how bad it was

    I was diagnosed the end of May 2020, so I’m only a couple of months in myself so I can relate to how you are feeling in some of these early videos you have done about your diagnosis. They will be really helpful to anyone newly diagnosed!
    My personal story is of the classic symptoms of extreme thirst and constantly going to the toilet (I was getting up 4-5x during the night to pee!!). I was also really tired and just before diagnosis was struggling to concentrate. I think because the symptoms happen gradually, not like one day your fine then the next you have all these symptoms, you almost get used to them? My symptoms started just as we were going in to lock down in the UK. I work as a nurse and had also just been redeployed to ITU from my usual role, so again I put a lot of my symptoms of fatigue and poor concentration down to being stressed, in a new role etc etc. However eventually even I realised that something was really wrong. I did a urine dipstick test on one of my frequent trips to the bathroom, but this was more to cross diabetes off my list of possible causes of my symptoms. Surprise surprise, the urine dipstick was immediately positive for sugar in the urine. Doctors appointment made for next day and blood sugar was recorded as 30mmol/l and HbA1c as 122!! Luckily I managed to catch it before DKA though!
    Now on MDI and getting used to this new normal. It’s a challenge, it’s different but hey life goes on right!
    Hope you are doing well and are smashing your university course!

      Yeah, I had a bunch of symptoms of it but my parents didn't think anything of it because I was 9 at the time and they thought I was just having a growth spurt, I was never diagnosed as pre-diabetic when I went into the ER they did the blood work and stuff and diagnosed me as type 1 diabetic.

    I’m scared i might be sick and never know, the thing is all these symptoms are my day to day, ive always been extremely tired and thirsty and get tired easily. Im not really a productive person so I can’t tell the difference. I don’t think my parents believe their kid can be sick unless my symptoms are severe and it’s irritating me

    • @sarahpriscilla_
      @sarahpriscilla_  3 года назад

      i get that, it’s hard to know if things are bad if you can’t remember what “normal” feels like
      if you think somethings wrong, i would talk to your parents about going to the doctor just to check and make sure. it’s better to be safe than sorry, and if something is wrong it’s super important to get the treatment you need!

    I went to the hospital for 3 days before that I was always on the couch I only got up to pee which I did a lot. My mouth was so dry no matter how much water I drank. I would wake up with pus and blood in my mouth from my dry mouth and my gums were infected from the high blood sugar. Everytime I would get up I would start breathing like I just ran or something. I was lightheaded all the time and I was always hungry. 2 month before all of this is when I started having extreme thirst and dry mouth and excessive urination. July 21 2020 was when I went to the hospital and found out I had diabetes. Even though they knew I was in DKA they didn't know if I was type 1 or 2, but Im type 1 I found out I had type 1 aug 6th. During all of this I lost 40 pounds.

    So I am having a couple symptoms. But everyone at school knows me as the “ broken girl” because since 3rd grade every year I have had a broken bone (it’s okay I think it’s funny too lol) but I’m “always” at the doctor and I don’t want them to think I’m self diagnosing or anything. But I was so close to passing out in English and was scared to get up because I know I would have passed out if I didn’t force myself out of it. Idk tell me what to do ig thanks

      i’m not a doctor or medical professional in anyway, so my advice would be to go to someone who knows what they’re talking about. it’s better to be safe than sorry so if i were you, i would just go to the doctor and tell them what’s going on! you don’t have to say what you suspect, just let them know your symptoms and hopefully they can help you out
