Sherpa was on a mission to get you down fast because he knows how much can change quickly. It’s honestly scary how much changes when all the ice starts to melt, the Sherpa’s really do make life easy for everyone else with ladders and ropes.
Forget National Geographic or any other documentary maker. This was the most detailed, comprehensive and interesting look at what it's like to climb Mt. Everest. I felt like I was right there step by step. Congrats!
Ryan, I'm 70 years old and have been watching mountaineering videos for as long as RUclips has been around. I've heard many people comment that your filming and narration are top-notch. I totally agree. It was a breathtaking journey. I haven't heard many people speculate on what makes this such a great series. Briefly, I would say that what you bring to this series is what my generation used to call " the right stuff " I am glad the mountain called you at a time when you could listen. But what makes your video so thrilling is I actually got to see EVERY SINGLE STEP! I always wanted to see what the climbers see as they move step by step on this mountain. I would always wonder: is it very steep? Is it heart stopping? Does it look like a misstep to the left or right means a one way ticket to the bottom? I just cannot express how amazing I found your step-by-step descent! Mountaineering is like my horror genre. I find it fascinating both from a psychological & physiological standpoint. I have no desire to actually climb like this, but follow the season on Everest nonetheless. Your videos gave a great perspective on the reality of this kind of climbing. It’s pretty much a a guided tour these days. Anyone in decent shape with some money and a few months to prepare physically can do it. It’s not the accomplishment it once was.

Ryan commented about this and I’ll be interested to hear what he has to say when he’s had time to reflect. You stayed positive, relaxed and confident, and you narrated just like you would with friends or family…very natural. Ryan, I've been reading about and watching all things Everest since 1996. Your content is truly the best I've ever seen regarding the conditions of the Lhotse Wall, Camp 3, the summit, the Khumbu Icefall, etc I felt as though I was there, hiking with with you during your ascent and descent of Everest. Thanks for such great content! I am inspired by your ability to kick a$$, in putting together such a magnificent experience! Keep it up!
Thank you for documenting the descent, always wondered how difficult getting off the mountain is compared to the ascent. The amount of fixed ropes on the route was interesting. The sherpas who put them in place deserve most of the credit.
As a long time rock climber and ski mountaineer it's wild to see how people end up having to use the fixed lines on Everest. Clipping in with a carabiner like this means that unless it's not very steep or you're traversing horizontally, if you fall you will fall or slide down the rope until you're "caught" either by landing on the next person or on the next anchor. Not locking the gate on the carabiner (for expediency here, of course) means it can easily unclip from the rope unintentionally, like during a fall. Having to unclip and reclip a single tether to pass others on the fixed line produces hundreds of chances to make a mistake while you're completely unprotected. Even if you're competent and feeling reasonably OK at 26k feet, that person above you hand-belaying down a steep section of fixed 10mm climbing rope (with thick gloves on!), who might be totally exhausted and at the limit physically and mentally, is a completely unmanageable hazard. What's worse is that making it safer by rappelling steep sections or using actual self-belay techniques is impossible given the circumstances (number of people, expediency, etc). I've never seen a video that captures this so vividly! I've seen (and at times participated in) some wildly unsafe things over 25 years of climbing but the sheer number of people and the high-altitude environment involved here are just a whole different level of awful.
The Sherpa is experienced and knows that going down is the most critical part of the climb. Fatigue, and everything. I love how he clips it for you without even looking at you. 😂😅 I think even parenting should be that way at some point. Teach them the hard way. Congratulations on your summit.

Ryan, I've been reading about and watching all things Everest since 1996.
Your content is truly the best I've ever seen regarding the conditions of the Lhotse Wall, Camp 3, the summit, the Khumbu Icefall, etc I felt as though I was there, hiking with with you during your ascent and descent of Everest.
Thanks for such great content! I am inspired by your ability to kick a$$, in putting together such a magnificent experience! Keep it up!
Thank you for documenting the descent, always wondered how difficult
getting off the mountain is compared to the ascent. The amount of fixed ropes
on the route was interesting. The sherpas who put them in place deserve most
of the credit.
As a long time rock climber and ski mountaineer it's wild to see how people end up having to use the fixed lines on Everest. Clipping in with a carabiner like this means that unless it's not very steep or you're traversing horizontally, if you fall you will fall or slide down the rope until you're "caught" either by landing on the next person or on the next anchor. Not locking the gate on the carabiner (for expediency here, of course) means it can easily unclip from the rope unintentionally, like during a fall. Having to unclip and reclip a single tether to pass others on the fixed line produces hundreds of chances to make a mistake while you're completely unprotected. Even if you're competent and feeling reasonably OK at 26k feet, that person above you hand-belaying down a steep section of fixed 10mm climbing rope (with thick gloves on!), who might be totally exhausted and at the limit physically and mentally, is a completely unmanageable hazard. What's worse is that making it safer by rappelling steep sections or using actual self-belay techniques is impossible given the circumstances (number of people, expediency, etc). I've never seen a video that captures this so vividly! I've seen (and at times participated in) some wildly unsafe things over 25 years of climbing but the sheer number of people and the high-altitude environment involved here are just a whole different level of awful.
The Sherpa is experienced and knows that going down is the most critical part of the climb. Fatigue, and everything. I love how he clips it for you without even looking at you. 😂😅 I think even parenting should be that way at some point. Teach them the hard way. Congratulations on your summit.
I’ve watched hundreds of Everest documentaries and blogs over the last 15 years and this is the first one that actually made me say, “No fucking way!” Great footage though and congrats!

Terrifying! This is the only one in the series that I've watched and I agree with everyone's comments on how revealing it is. I believe your narration works because it's full of honest emotion.
