    2. Alpine lakes visually take your breath away and physically take your breath away lol.

I have camped at Lake Ann many times but never had a desire to climb Mount Shuksan. The low end of the trail is where it connects with the Pacific Northwest Trail and Swift Creek Trail that goes down to Baker Lake. The people that said you were almost there meant you were almost to Lake Ann. The stars and moon are beautiful to watch at Lake Ann. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed the hike from my bedroom. I have seen Mount Shuksan 100s of times hiking the trails below. Its magnificent. I have been a trail correspondent for Washington Trail Association in Washington State and l live not too far from Mount Baker. Love this place. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

You have such a cool, relaxed and natural, yet informative way of narrating and filming that you got me completely immersed in your climb (been a climber for almost 50 years now). In this one even more than in the Everest videos. And then, this episode on the Shuksan very summit completely eludes my understanding. You have spent more attention to a goat, and even to a fly on your pants, than to humans, that extraordinary meeting of another climbing party at the top on a such a desolate place. I don't know, I just don't get it.

  • @61Slughi

Climbed Shuksan back in 2012. Never did any rock climbing before. My guide thought I had some experience but nope. He climbed up, set the rope and told me exactly where to put my hands and feet. Made it to the top without a slip. We rappelled down by rope a different way. It was a very rewarding climb.

Congrats on the climb! This one is on my list.
I noticed that your lifter straps on your pack are not adjusted properly, since there is an air gap above the top of your shoulder. If you loosen all your straps, tighten the waist first, then the shoulder straps, then the chest, and finally the lifters at the top just until it brings the pack closer to your center of weight, the distribution of the weight will make everything feel lighter.

I would be content parking at that trailhead and walking to the lake and back. Just beautiful.

just watched your long Everest video and I gotta say the rock section at the end of this video was sketchier than the sketchiest of Everest .

Yeah I was getting nervous! Everest is more about the altitude and there’s always a huge risk of avalanches too and other unexpected events. Ryan dealt with altitude so well which made it appear easier than it is for many. You can’t beat being young and fit.

It’s easy to under appreciated how much the wind can take it out of you and how much harder climbing cold rock in gloves is than nice sun warmed rock with bare hands.
