  • In this Episode of the "Reaching Your Peak" mini-series, (Episode #8), we have another story/lesson from Corey Jacobsen.
This time, Randy joins Corey, and is able to press Corey to share more details from the hunt, as well as the tactic that brought the bulls close to Corey. And the tactic they discuss in this episode is one that evolved from an “almost” botched hunt that took place nearly 25 years ago.
During that hunt, Corey had been chasing a herd bull and his cows up the mountain, and as he was hiking up the ridge behind the herd, he unknowingly ended up above a completely different herd. With the thermals moving down the mountain, the cows in that herd winded him and busted down the mountain. Unsure what was going on, the bull that was lagging behind that herd bugled to his cows, and Corey learned a valuable lesson about a herd bull and his scattering cows…
“Reaching Your Peak” will be published every other week, to fill in the gap between regular ElkTalk Podcast episodes, from now until the first part of October. In this new mini-series, Corey will be sharing stories from his past elk hunts, and then detailing a strategy or tactic that was instrumental in the success of that hunt.

Love the conversation style you did with Randy. The scripted version is cool too, I just think I got a lot more out of the back and forth and Randy asking questions.

You should add the link to video of the hunt in the description. It would be cool to hear the discussion of the hunt and then watch it. Thanks!

I like the format, and adding Randy or Donnie would be great also.
Also, I like that you are bringing up the subject of other outdoor activities and the effects of these activities on wildlife populations. I would like to see the study Randy mentioned.

Nope...never shot a stupid @#$% unseen root or branch between me and a bull. 😡 Good to know it happens to the best of us and not just me.

Any story shared is great for experience. Although each situation is different hearing the details explained to the degree in which you did,can really mean the difference between a successful harvesting vs non successful for all the listeners! Thank you for sharing the knowledge 🙏🏽

Thank you guys for the awesome dialogue and information! I wish I would have heard this four days ago as I found a similar "sanctuary" spot like the one you described but could not get on the heard.
I think the dialogue between you and Randy works very well. Randy gets some of the finer details out and makes for a great show. Keep up the good work, both of you.

I was just wondering if we'd get another Reaching your peak episode! I've already had a great season so far. I went out scouting for elk and ending up shooting my first bear ever! I already heard some bugles too. Hoping everyone has a safe season and great experiences!

Yeah I liked this version where you are both talking. Having someone else there helps when he is asking questions that maybe we weren’t thinking about.
