We recently purchased a MoFI 5500 router with the Sierra Wireless EM9191 4GLTE/5G modem. You should check this out. This device has the latest technology with carrier aggregation and a band lock feature that locks the top three tower bands at your location instead of using one band. Speeds are 3X to 5X better than a normal hotspot. I’m using an AT&T SIM from a 3rd party reseller so it’s nothing special. I’m currently getting 100+ Mbps near Livingston TX. I enjoy your channel. Great video! Make sure your viewers navigate through the authentication page with a browser device like a computer or tablet when using the property WiFi. This will then allow all traffics behind your router to access the internet such as your TVs, Roku, AppleTV, and other browserless devices. Also check your power pedestal for an Ethernet connection. You should start to see these popping up at many of the newly constructed resorts throughout the country. Keep up the great videos!
lol so nice to come across someone doing this that knows the IT lingo. MiMo and explaining the WiFi booster in better detail! Loved it! Great details on the caps and device differences. Our choice due to both of us working and needing multiple data plans\phones\etc. We picked up a dish for entertainment, over the air for local news and such and then using an Roku/AppleTV/etc for our internet option IF we have the bandwidth and signal to do so. The satellite did have some initial cost and a monthly fee but I have yet to find a place I can't get a signal with it. This is to include Palo Duro Canyon where I lost ALL cell signal less than a mile on the road into the park! Great details though and nice to see how someone else has their home setup. I will be checking into the WiFi ranger to see if it might improve our setup. Thanks, Richard

Good video. I was a network engineer. I was planning on purchasing a LTE modem on AT&T unlimited plan and they don’t authorize an external modem or even the old mifi we had. They do allow you to use your phone but that traps the phone at the location. We live in the country so all my city friends laugh at me (also comment on the network engineer having connectivity problems haha)
Pretty sure AT&T now has a prepaid unlimited data plan that's real unlimited. Highly recommend subscribing to www.rvmobileinternet.com/ to stay abreast of the mobile internet world.
Changing Lanes AT&T itself wouldn’t allow tethering and every my old AT&T MiFi was no longer supported when we inquired with AT&T. I was able to find a reseller of a data plan through Mobile Internet resources and we have been on it for almost a year now. I am mostly happy with it. I have a pair of Wilson Yagi for LTE (700MHz - 2700Mhz) for MIMO. Most every day in the country we can get 15-20 Mb/s downloads with sub 20ms ping & jitter. So good enough for what I need. My wife and daughter have been relying on that internet connection during the stay at home orders the past few months. All in all I am good with this. Our mobile router is a MoFI and we will be traveling this summer to Minnesota & Florida with it in our truck (as well as using it at our lake cabin while we visit family - my wife will teach from the road with that connection). Great video again, thanks for your style of discussing a topic that can be understood by a wide range of people. I used to make a living in routers and satellite terminals on aircraft so I love is and like talking TCP/IP and link margin and the like. There is a company on Ebay named Superpass. They make really good directional antennas. Don't tell anyone, but we used one of them for years with a mobile router before everyone in our neighborhood encrypted their passwords. That's as far as I took it. I still get the antenna out every once in a while to look around.
This is GREAT! We are planning to go FT in the next few months and internet is critical for us as I too work from home. My company works off a VPN and we have a phone system. When we got hit by Michael I tried to use my phone hotspot (AT&T and was the only service that survived the storm) and it wasn't strong enough to support our system. I'm looking to get an AT&T and Verizon jetpack with the wifi extender....will probably copy your setup as it has been the BEST I've seen! With all that being said do u think this will be able to support? I do have a grandfathered "unlimited data plan" with AT&T....at least that's what they told me when I called. Sorry for so much!
If your plan says "ATT Unlimited Plus", and I think one variation, it's unlimited. Technically, it can be "network managed" if the tower is congested, which is throttled, but we've never experienced a throttle... ever... There are too many variables to know for sure in regards to your VPN and phone. What we did was test it at our house prior to making the jump. I access my job via citrix and I do get kicked off a few times a day and just reconnect. With a better setup than just tethering to your phone, it will hopefully work. Definitely recommend jumping on a Verizon hotspot with the pre-paid unlimited plan. It's currently about the only real unlimited plan available. I simplify things to access the internet. I set up my phone as a Wi Fi hot spot, and the computer sees the phone. Sometimes I get spotty connections on the phone to local cell towers; other times, in campgrounds, I can connect to their Wi Fi and bypass the phone. It works for me, but then I don't watch TV or stream anything more difficult than RUclips videos.
Been having more challenges with our current Internet connectivity (I too, need to have solid Internet to work remotely) on our PepLink on either AT&T or Verizon. I've been thinking about hotspots that might directly tether to our router...but that requires custom firmware. Knowing about the WiFi Ranger you use allows tethering to hotspots is very helpful as I look to reconfigure our connectivity. Thanks!

Now you have my interest sparked. I logged onto my ATT account and did a little research to find Netgear makes a mobile hot spot for ATT that also allows up to 20 devices to connect. It seems it has similar features as the one you have. It's called Nighthawk® LTE Mobile Hotspot Router. I chatted with the ATT people and they said it's 199 to buy then $30 a month to add it to our unlimited plan FYI. May do that.
Yea.. The nighthawk came out about a month after I bought the Unite Explore. I think the newer model supports a few more bands that ATT will use in the future, so it's a good way to go.

Been thinking about living on the road for a while and all the family media (movies, music, pictures) are set up on network storage, so it's reassuring to know that there are devices out there I can set up our hub and MyCloud to or, at the very least, run stuff off of a dumb switch so everyone would still have access to what's important to them.
We are renting a RV for the first time for a long weekend trip to "test" RV life as we want to rent a unit for a month to travel back east and visit the kids and grandkids. My question surrounds the WeBoost Drive X RV. I am retired (the driver) and my wife works remotely so she would need/greatly benerfit connecting to cellular network while we are driving. Since there is not excellent coverage all over the US, we wondered about investing in a WeBoost Drive X RV to see if this would allow her to work (at least some hours a day) while we are actually driving.

Well, we very rarely use any public or campground Wifi. Almost never, in fact. So the only Wifi we use is our own internal wifi with encryption. I guess if we were on public networks a lot, we would consider a VPN. But it would need to be a router based VPN so we wouldn't have to manage VPN clients on every device (PC, AppleTV, Phones, etc). Great breakdown, thanks for being so comprehensive! A year later, and this is still one of the best resources for understanding how to build a redundant mobile internet setup. Question about the MiMo antenna and hotspot: with the antenna hooked up, do the hotspots still use their internal ones to get signal? When thinking about setup possibilities, it seems like you could get away with not putting the hotspot in the window (and even hiding it a bit) as long as the wires antenna has a good signal.
Thanks! I believe the presence of the antenna bypasses the internal ones. If it's not pointed in the right direction, the signal and throughput go down.
Hey guys, this has nothing to do with the video but will watch it later, but was wondering, what is the average Park price to park the rig, also average diesel price per month pulling the RV, average cost on full time insurance, and average cost on any repairs to RV and to truck. I know it depends which state you are living at the time but no one talks about this. You have fantastic videos won’t watch any other. Also do they have just dump station you can go to. How big is your fresh water tank. Im buying a 45’ but want at least 150 gal of fresh water. Thanks.

Called a dealer for the wifi ranger go ac and was told there are 2 versions and the cost range from $699-$749. I understand getting a reliable connection is well worth it for work, but is there a different make/model that's more cost friendly? Great video!
That must be the price for the WFR and antenna bundle... The WFR GoAC (what we have) is $349 wifiranger.com/shop/product/62-goac We don't need the wifi antenna because 99% of rv park / campground wifi is horrible.
Because the WFR is the central point and from there we can connect to either hotspot, another wifi, hotspot as wifi (if a signal is better in a window away from the router), or a phone/tablet, etc.... Also, if we need the booster (ruclips.net/video/3UwAuJInlls/видео.html), it's better to have the hotspot near it. This way allows us to always connect to one wifi. Also, there's no way to connect our hard wired NAS to a hotspot. Hope that helps!

Dude... using the Verizon Prepaid 65mo service with the 8800l?? Mine was working great at first couple months... but has trouble getting enough bars for decent data in my area, actually the same spot lately. Remembered you had this video out there so I added the Netgear 6000450 MIMO Antenna with 2 TS-9 Connectors... jumped 2 bars over normal and went from 5mbs to 22mbs. Sweet call!
Hay guys, another great video. I have a question a little off topic. A lot of you videos are of your bike rides and adventures. Obviously you are away from home for hours on end. We have a fear of loosing power and coming home to our dog being exposed to extreme heat. ( camping in Florida ) Do you use a pet monitor during your outings, if so what do you use, does it operate on cell service or WiFi, and what features does it have?
We use MarCELL: amzn.to/2zoWKah It monitors power, temperature, and humidity, and even has a "puck" you can pair with the system to monitor for water leaks. It does require service, which is $99/yr. You set thresholds (high and low) online for both temperature and humidity and define notification methods (text / email) all online. Then, when anything is amiss, both Tara and I get emailed and texted immediately. You can also check the temp and humidity online. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching! 😊
After a few days we have weak WiFi with Verizon Mifi and antenna. There’s no Verizon tower here so we got a local “unlimited” wireless network mifi and it works for a couple of weeks. Have you done, or can you do a video on how you set up for travel? Looking at this video I am wondering how you prep your office for travel? I can imagine that desk setup would be scattered all over your garage while moving.
A full camp breakdown / move / setup is on the list to film. The office isn't too difficult, though. The carpet gets rolled up, and the desk and chair get strapped down win bungees against the front wall by the bathroom door. The monitor comes apart and lies faces down on the desk.

Not sure if you check questions on these older topics but I reference this one a lot. Have you found a cell plan that does not charge a monthly access fee? I have US Cellular and they don't or its included but I left Verizon due to the misc hidden fees. I am about to start my full time RV life and don't want to use my US Cellular account due to their lack of national coverage. I like the idea of AT&T using a basic account and getting a Mobley which has just become available again. For $20 a month supposedly unlimited data. I love your internet channel so I thought you might have an answer. BTW just sold my Harley so I could tow my Land Cruiser behind my motor home. Tough choice Steve Thomas

Right now the only real unlimited plans are the mobley and the verizon pre-paid plan. Luckly, we still have our grandfathered unlimited plans on both. Many parks have Wifi... the issue is they all usually stink in terms of data speeds. Many parks do have cable TV, but to get internet on it it usually has to be a seasonal stay so the cable company can set up your account and such... Hope that helps!
Hi, Just got my RV. I have the Wifi Ranger Elite AC Pac router. Antenna on top of camper. Regarding the Netgear Nighthawk for cellular coverage (which replaced the Netgear Unite Explore) is this instead of using my iPhone with AT&T as a mobile hotspot (unlimited dp and hotspot plan paid by my company). QUESTION 1: Does something have to be tethered by USB in order for it to access cellular coverage? QUESTION 2: What do you think of the Sprint HTC 5G Hub (now that Sprint and T-Mobile have merged)? Would that be an (really expensive) option? Their combined coverage network seems to be pretty good although not sure 5G is readily available right now in many places so might be a waste of money. I know ideally you'd have one of every carrier out there but looking for the best 2 options to cover my basis.
We still use the Unite Explore. I know the nighthawk has been out for a while now, but the improvements in the nighthawk (a few new bands maybe?) aren't worth getting it for us. We'll wait for the next version and see what it offers.

Hey Great INformation. I have been an ATT wireless and Directv customer for yrs and I just checked the Direct TV now and the Cheapest plan that is available on the ATT website it 40$ per month for 65 Channels. Did you get something different for 10$ per month?

I've heard of them and talked to an LCI rep at the Indiana rally. But havent seen one in person. To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about internet being baked into the rig. Airstream is doing it too. I'd need to see more info, but I imagine it's a single carrier setup maybe? I guess I just like picking my own gear for internet. But for people who don't want to mess with figuring it all out, it might be a great option. Time will tell. Will hopefully get to see it in action at the Tampa RV show in Jan. The "local" WiFi (OneContol), which has been around for a while, was quite easy to setup and provided connectivity to control a large number of the features of the 351 within 100'. Expecting an equally easy addition of an AT&T SIM to the "new" ConnectAnywhere device, I was sorely mistaken. After 10-days of numerous conversations beginning at an AT&T retailer (no help!), online and multiple telephone support groups in many departments, I finally received the elusive SIM. However, when I tried to activate it and choose a payment plan, I was unable to do it. Apparently, it seems that someone (LCI, AT&T, ???) forgot to register the LCI-device IMEI number range within AT&T's IMEI database of compatible equipment. Finally, after finding a tech at AT&T Tech Support who seemed to understand the problem, I was told that the registration process has begun and that I should receive a call when I can take the next steps. I'm hopeful that his promise will be fulfilled. I, too, am a bit concerned about being hardwired into AT&T (T-Mobile is an alternative according to LCI). My next step is to check into third party resellers. As you say, "time will tell."

Hi Chad, It's been a week since I last spoke with Tech Support at AT&T with no response or update. So, I reached out to LCI, the manufacturer of the OneControl ConnectAnywhere devices to inform them of the difficulties employing their devices. Fortunately, I found Matt Currey, Customer Service Technical Representative (574.537.8900), who has "peeled away the onion" and seems to have found the problem/answer. Matt found the right person/process (I'm hoping) at AT&T. The group is the IoT (Internet of Things) Marketplace at AT&T. Apparently, up to now, AT&T has been trying to employ a SIM card/data plan for a cell phone to work with the LCI devices instead of a IoT SIM card. According to them, these IoT GSM SIMs don't require IMEI numbers. I have gone through the process of ordering the SIM ($2 one time charge) with a 10gb data plan ($60/month) and will report back with results. I'll also detail the process once I know it works - hopefully within a few days. Ron

Before choosing the WI-FI Ranger did you consider any less expensive routers which repeat a wireless signal from campground wifi/hotspots. I have a ZuniConnect Travel Router which I use to repeat hotel wi-fi signals when traveling. It works OK but does not have the port for an external antennae like the MIMO or USB port for a hotspot.
Not really as we planned to only use campground wifi connections as a last resort. The primary reason for the WFR was it's ability to tether directly (over USB) to a hotspot, and be able to swap out hotspsots using different providers.
The wifi ranger go ac looks exactly like a Mikrotik RB 962. All things considered this is pretty much how I would envision doing my rv internet when I get to that point.
Yes, it CAN if you get one of the Elite AC packs that include the outside antenna. We don't have that but many do and love it. The key is you have to be in a campground with a decent back end connection to the wifi. The DSL or cable or whatever they are using to connect their wifi to the internet.... Hi, my question is about the Great outdoors RV resort, we have the exact truck and the same length 5th wheel. Was this resort easy to drive to and how is it to get into your site? We live in the foothills of NC and we're looking for a place (that we can get into) in the mountains to camp.
It was pretty easy in and out. The only issue we've had there was a couple of the sites we've been on were too short for the rig and the truck and we had to park the truck at the office... So, make sure you ask them for a long site. Note: we did have our patio down, which adds about 8'. But it's a great park and Polly and Mike are awesome! Tell them Hi from us! 😊

Daisy is a Maltese / Yorkie mix and she's 4 years old. 🐶 I (chad) work in IT and have been with the same company for 17 years and have telecommuted for the last 8 of those years. Tara does all of our editing, which is a full time job. Nomad life is a great fit and we're so happy we can share it via our channel. I a previous life, I was an aviation electronics tech in the US Navy and I've done a bit of network wiring at one point in the beginning of my IT career. I know just enough to be dangerous. Hi again! Im a bit confused about the wifi ranger... 1) Does your wifi ranger mobile router connect to an antenna unit mounted on your rooftop? 2) If I dont plan to use any public wifi (security concerns), then i can skip the wifi ranger (and use another capable mobile router)? 3) Im assuming the hotspot and mimo does not help with enhancing cellular phone call connectivity. Any leads? Thanks!
1) The WFR acts as our internal "home" wifi (everything in our home connects to it) and it can connect upstream (to the internet) via a couple methods: a) Another Wifi - this can be campground wifi or hotspot wifi. this can be with or without the external antenna booster option b) USB Tether directly to a hotspot (best option) 2) You can skip the Elite AC bundle, but still get the CoreAC. That's what we have done since we never use park wifi - they almost always suck 3) This depends on if you have wifi calling enabled on your phone. This is an option on iPhones, not sure about others. If you have this enabled, your phone can use your wifi and hence the WFR and hotspot. Other than that, no, it does nothing for the cell signal itself. for that you can use a booster: ruclips.net/video/3UwAuJInlls/видео.html Hope that helps!
Great video we have a wingard on the roof its been great choice for us so fare but we are not full timing yet all the parks we stay at so fare has great wifi but we us our phone as a back up
Like you say, "Not having a good Internet connection is NOT an option". I do training via the telephone and Internet. I use my cell phone (or Skype) and the Internet for trng sessions. Clients pay me $2k per pop. So, I have to perform. I will be traveling/camping and WILL NEED good communications and, yet, I'm not all that technical. Do you have any video on VPN? I'm hearing more and more about this and I believe it's related only to Internet security but ???
Yes... VPNs are strictly for security (and sometimes anonymity). Since the WifiRanger is also a firewall and anything we do is over SSL, we don't use one. If we did, it wouldn't change anything in our setup though. A VPN is just a way to "tunnel" all of your traffic so it's hidden. We recently purchased a MoFI 5500 router with the Sierra Wireless EM9191 4GLTE/5G modem. You should check this out. This device has the latest technology with carrier aggregation and a band lock feature that locks the top three tower bands at your location instead of using one band. Speeds are 3X to 5X better than a normal hotspot. I’m using an AT&T SIM from a 3rd party reseller so it’s nothing special. I’m currently getting 100+ Mbps near Livingston TX. I enjoy your channel. Great video! Make sure your viewers navigate through the authentication page with a browser device like a computer or tablet when using the property WiFi. This will then allow all traffics behind your router to access the internet such as your TVs, Roku, AppleTV, and other browserless devices. Also check your power pedestal for an Ethernet connection. You should start to see these popping up at many of the newly constructed resorts throughout the country. Keep up the great videos!

lol so nice to come across someone doing this that knows the IT lingo. MiMo and explaining the WiFi booster in better detail! Loved it! Great details on the caps and device differences. Our choice due to both of us working and needing multiple data plans\phones\etc. We picked up a dish for entertainment, over the air for local news and such and then using an Roku/AppleTV/etc for our internet option IF we have the bandwidth and signal to do so. The satellite did have some initial cost and a monthly fee but I have yet to find a place I can't get a signal with it. This is to include Palo Duro Canyon where I lost ALL cell signal less than a mile on the road into the park! Great details though and nice to see how someone else has their home setup. I will be checking into the WiFi ranger to see if it might improve our setup. Thanks, Richard

Good video. I was a network engineer. I was planning on purchasing a LTE modem on AT&T unlimited plan and they don’t authorize an external modem or even the old mifi we had. They do allow you to use your phone but that traps the phone at the location. We live in the country so all my city friends laugh at me (also comment on the network engineer having connectivity problems haha)
Pretty sure AT&T now has a prepaid unlimited data plan that's real unlimited. Highly recommend subscribing to www.rvmobileinternet.com/ to stay abreast of the mobile internet world.
Changing Lanes AT&T itself wouldn’t allow tethering and every my old AT&T MiFi was no longer supported when we inquired with AT&T.
I was able to find a reseller of a data plan through Mobile Internet resources and we have been on it for almost a year now. I am mostly happy with it. I have a pair of Wilson Yagi for LTE (700MHz - 2700Mhz) for MIMO. Most every day in the country we can get 15-20 Mb/s downloads with sub 20ms ping & jitter. So good enough for what I need. My wife and daughter have been relying on that internet connection during the stay at home orders the past few months. All in all I am good with this. Our mobile router is a MoFI and we will be traveling this summer to Minnesota & Florida with it in our truck (as well as using it at our lake cabin while we visit family - my wife will teach from the road with that connection). Great video again, thanks for your style of discussing a topic that can be understood by a wide range of people. I used to make a living in routers and satellite terminals on aircraft so I love is and like talking TCP/IP and link margin and the like. There is a company on Ebay named Superpass. They make really good directional antennas. Don't tell anyone, but we used one of them for years with a mobile router before everyone in our neighborhood encrypted their passwords. That's as far as I took it. I still get the antenna out every once in a while to look around.

This is GREAT! We are planning to go FT in the next few months and internet is critical for us as I too work from home. My company works off a VPN and we have a phone system. When we got hit by Michael I tried to use my phone hotspot (AT&T and was the only service that survived the storm) and it wasn't strong enough to support our system. I'm looking to get an AT&T and Verizon jetpack with the wifi extender....will probably copy your setup as it has been the BEST I've seen! With all that being said do u think this will be able to support? I do have a grandfathered "unlimited data plan" with AT&T....at least that's what they told me when I called.

If your plan says "ATT Unlimited Plus", and I think one variation, it's unlimited. Technically, it can be "network managed" if the tower is congested, which is throttled, but we've never experienced a throttle... ever...
There are too many variables to know for sure in regards to your VPN and phone. What we did was test it at our house prior to making the jump.
I access my job via citrix and I do get kicked off a few times a day and just reconnect. With a better setup than just tethering to your phone, it will hopefully work.
Definitely recommend jumping on a Verizon hotspot with the pre-paid unlimited plan. It's currently about the only real unlimited plan available.

I simplify things to access the internet. I set up my phone as a Wi Fi hot spot, and the computer sees the phone. Sometimes I get spotty connections on the phone to local cell towers; other times, in campgrounds, I can connect to their Wi Fi and bypass the phone. It works for me, but then I don't watch TV or stream anything more difficult than RUclips videos.

Been having more challenges with our current Internet connectivity (I too, need to have solid Internet to work remotely) on our PepLink on either AT&T or Verizon. I've been thinking about hotspots that might directly tether to our router...but that requires custom firmware. Knowing about the WiFi Ranger you use allows tethering to hotspots is very helpful as I look to reconfigure our connectivity. Thanks!

Now you have my interest sparked. I logged onto my ATT account and did a little research to find Netgear makes a mobile hot spot for ATT that also allows up to 20 devices to connect. It seems it has similar features as the one you have. It's called Nighthawk® LTE Mobile Hotspot Router. I chatted with the ATT people and they said it's 199 to buy then $30 a month to add it to our unlimited plan FYI. May do that.
Yea.. The nighthawk came out about a month after I bought the Unite Explore. I think the newer model supports a few more bands that ATT will use in the future, so it's a good way to go.
Appreciate this information. It goes a long way to help explain how to create a good internet connection.

Been thinking about living on the road for a while and all the family media (movies, music, pictures) are set up on network storage, so it's reassuring to know that there are devices out there I can set up our hub and MyCloud to or, at the very least, run stuff off of a dumb switch so everyone would still have access to what's important to them.

We are renting a RV for the first time for a long weekend trip to "test" RV life as we want to rent a unit for a month to travel back east and visit the kids and grandkids. My question surrounds the WeBoost Drive X RV. I am retired (the driver) and my wife works remotely so she would need/greatly benerfit connecting to cellular network while we are driving. Since there is not excellent coverage all over the US, we wondered about investing in a WeBoost Drive X RV to see if this would allow her to work (at least some hours a day) while we are actually driving.

Just found your channel and love it. You are very articulate and easy to understand. Really enjoyed this video on internet connections. I'm wondering if you are ever concerned about security while using WiFi? Do you use a VPN?
Well, we very rarely use any public or campground Wifi. Almost never, in fact. So the only Wifi we use is our own internal wifi with encryption. I guess if we were on public networks a lot, we would consider a VPN. But it would need to be a router based VPN so we wouldn't have to manage VPN clients on every device (PC, AppleTV, Phones, etc).

Great breakdown, thanks for being so comprehensive! A year later, and this is still one of the best resources for understanding how to build a redundant mobile internet setup.
Question about the MiMo antenna and hotspot: with the antenna hooked up, do the hotspots still use their internal ones to get signal? When thinking about setup possibilities, it seems like you could get away with not putting the hotspot in the window (and even hiding it a bit) as long as the wires antenna has a good signal.
Thanks! I believe the presence of the antenna bypasses the internal ones. If it's not pointed in the right direction, the signal and throughput go down.
I like my direct tv WiFi and tv setup. It works well all over the lower 48 A little expensive but I always have WiFi and it’s very fast

Hey guys, this has nothing to do with the video but will watch it later, but was wondering, what is the average Park price to park the rig, also average diesel price per month pulling the RV, average cost on full time insurance, and average cost on any repairs to RV and to truck. I know it depends which state you are living at the time but no one talks about this. You have fantastic videos won’t watch any other. Also do they have just dump station you can go to. How big is your fresh water tank. Im buying a 45’ but want at least 150 gal of fresh water. Thanks.

Called a dealer for the wifi ranger go ac and was told there are 2 versions and the cost range from $699-$749. I understand getting a reliable connection is well worth it for work, but is there a different make/model that's more cost friendly? Great video!

Great Video! Why not just connect all of your items directly to your hotspot unit and bypass the WIFi ranger?
Because the WFR is the central point and from there we can connect to either hotspot, another wifi, hotspot as wifi (if a signal is better in a window away from the router), or a phone/tablet, etc.... Also, if we need the booster (ruclips.net/video/3UwAuJInlls/видео.html), it's better to have the hotspot near it. This way allows us to always connect to one wifi. Also, there's no way to connect our hard wired NAS to a hotspot. Hope that helps!

Dude... using the Verizon Prepaid 65mo service with the 8800l?? Mine was working great at first couple months... but has trouble getting enough bars for decent data in my area, actually the same spot lately. Remembered you had this video out there so I added the Netgear 6000450 MIMO Antenna with 2 TS-9 Connectors... jumped 2 bars over normal and went from 5mbs to 22mbs. Sweet call!

Hay guys, another great video. I have a question a little off topic. A lot of you videos are of your bike rides and adventures. Obviously you are away from home for hours on end. We have a fear of loosing power and coming home to our dog being exposed to extreme heat. ( camping in Florida ) Do you use a pet monitor during your outings, if so what do you use, does it operate on cell service or WiFi, and what features does it have?
We use MarCELL: amzn.to/2zoWKah
It monitors power, temperature, and humidity, and even has a "puck" you can pair with the system to monitor for water leaks. It does require service, which is $99/yr. You set thresholds (high and low) online for both temperature and humidity and define notification methods (text / email) all online. After a few days we have weak WiFi with Verizon Mifi and antenna. There’s no Verizon tower here so we got a local “unlimited” wireless network mifi and it works for a couple of weeks. Have you done, or can you do a video on how you set up for travel? Looking at this video I am wondering how you prep your office for travel? I can imagine that desk setup would be scattered all over your garage while moving.
A full camp breakdown / move / setup is on the list to film. The office isn't too difficult, though. The carpet gets rolled up, and the desk and chair get strapped down win bungees against the front wall by the bathroom door. The monitor comes apart and lies faces down on the desk.
Great video. It was explained very well, but i am in it so it all makes sense to me anyway lol. The part that through me off was the shirt change in the middle then back to red lol.

Great video. How do you determine what RV parks have cell service? We have stayed in several that the service was spotty at best.
We're going to be making a video on how we plan our travels and locations soon.. but we use RV Trip wizard, which includes reviews and cell coverage for each location. changinglanesrv.com/rvtripwizard
We also use an app called 'Coverage?' on iphone to overlay the ATT and Verizon data maps.

Not sure if you check questions on these older topics but I reference this one a lot. Have you found a cell plan that does not charge a monthly access fee? I have US Cellular and they don't or its included but I left Verizon due to the misc hidden fees. I am about to start my full time RV life and don't want to use my US Cellular account due to their lack of national coverage. I like the idea of AT&T using a basic account and getting a Mobley which has just become available again. For $20 a month supposedly unlimited data. I love your internet channel so I thought you might have an answer. BTW just sold my Harley so I could tow my Land Cruiser behind my motor home. Tough choice

Do some RV parks have wireless WANs? Do some RV parks have coaxial hookups for cable TV and/or internet?
Many parks have Wifi... the issue is they all usually stink in terms of data speeds. Many parks do have cable TV, but to get internet on it it usually has to be a seasonal stay so the cable company can set up your account and such... Hope that helps!

Hi, Just got my RV. I have the Wifi Ranger Elite AC Pac router. Antenna on top of camper. Regarding the Netgear Nighthawk for cellular coverage (which replaced the Netgear Unite Explore) is this instead of using my iPhone with AT&T as a mobile hotspot (unlimited dp and hotspot plan paid by my company). QUESTION 1: Does something have to be tethered by USB in order for it to access cellular coverage? QUESTION 2: What do you think of the Sprint HTC 5G Hub (now that Sprint and T-Mobile have merged)? Would that be an (really expensive) option? Their combined coverage network seems to be pretty good although not sure 5G is readily available right now in many places so might be a waste of money. I know ideally you'd have one of every carrier out there but looking for the best 2 options to cover my basis.
We still use the Unite Explore. I know the nighthawk has been out for a while now, but the improvements in the nighthawk (a few new bands maybe?) aren't worth getting it for us. We'll wait for the next version and see what it offers.

Hey Great INformation. I have been an ATT wireless and Directv customer for yrs and I just checked the Direct TV now and the Cheapest plan that is available on the ATT website it 40$ per month for 65 Channels. Did you get something different for 10$ per month?
ATT used to offer something like a $25 - $30 discount... Might have been when they were first launching it.

I've heard of them and talked to an LCI rep at the Indiana rally. But havent seen one in person. To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about internet being baked into the rig. Airstream is doing it too. I'd need to see more info, but I imagine it's a single carrier setup maybe? I guess I just like picking my own gear for internet. But for people who don't want to mess with figuring it all out, it might be a great option. Time will tell. Will hopefully get to see it in action at the Tampa RV show in Jan. The "local" WiFi (OneContol), which has been around for a while, was quite easy to setup and provided connectivity to control a large number of the features of the 351 within 100'. Expecting an equally easy addition of an AT&T SIM to the "new" ConnectAnywhere device, I was sorely mistaken. After 10-days of numerous conversations beginning at an AT&T retailer (no help!), online and multiple telephone support groups in many departments, I finally received the elusive SIM. However, when I tried to activate it and choose a payment plan, I was unable to do it. Apparently, it seems that someone (LCI, AT&T, ???) forgot to register the LCI-device IMEI number range within AT&T's IMEI database of compatible equipment. Finally, after finding a tech at AT&T Tech Support who seemed to understand the problem, I was told that the registration process has begun and that I should receive a call when I can take the next steps. I'm hopeful that his promise will be fulfilled.
I, too, am a bit concerned about being hardwired into AT&T (T-Mobile is an alternative according to LCI). My next step is to check into third party resellers. As you say, "time will tell."

Hi Chad, It's been a week since I last spoke with Tech Support at AT&T with no response or update. So, I reached out to LCI, the manufacturer of the OneControl ConnectAnywhere devices to inform them of the difficulties employing their devices. Fortunately, I found Matt Currey, Customer Service Technical Representative (574.537.8900), who has "peeled away the onion" and seems to have found the problem/answer.
Matt found the right person/process (I'm hoping) at AT&T. The group is the IoT (Internet of Things) Marketplace at AT&T. Apparently, up to now, AT&T has been trying to employ a SIM card/data plan for a cell phone to work with the LCI devices instead of a IoT SIM card. According to them, these IoT GSM SIMs don't require IMEI numbers.
I have gone through the process of ordering the SIM ($2 one time charge) with a 10gb data plan ($60/month) and will report back with results. I'll also detail the process once I know it works - hopefully within a few days.

Before choosing the WI-FI Ranger did you consider any less expensive routers which repeat a wireless signal from campground wifi/hotspots. I have a ZuniConnect Travel Router which I use to repeat hotel wi-fi signals when traveling. It works OK but does not have the port for an external antennae like the MIMO or USB port for a hotspot.
Not really as we planned to only use campground wifi connections as a last resort. The primary reason for the WFR was it's ability to tether directly (over USB) to a hotspot, and be able to swap out hotspsots using different providers.
The wifi ranger go ac looks exactly like a Mikrotik RB 962. All things considered this is pretty much how I would envision doing my rv internet when I get to that point.
I think it's a generic unit that can be programmed. Have seen a few that look identical. Thanks for watching! 😊

Does the Wifi Ranger amplify weak signals? Like for instance, my campground of choice has a pretty weak signal on the fringes of the campground.
Yes, it CAN if you get one of the Elite AC packs that include the outside antenna. We don't have that but many do and love it. The key is you have to be in a campground with a decent back end connection to the wifi. The DSL or cable or whatever they are using to connect their wifi to the internet.... Hi, my question is about the Great outdoors RV resort, we have the exact truck and the same length 5th wheel. Was this resort easy to drive to and how is it to get into your site? We live in the foothills of NC and we're looking for a place (that we can get into) in the mountains to camp.
It was pretty easy in and out. The only issue we've had there was a couple of the sites we've been on were too short for the rig and the truck and we had to park the truck at the office... So, make sure you ask them for a long site. Note: we did have our patio down, which adds about 8'. But it's a great park and Polly and Mike are awesome! Tell them Hi from us! 😊

Daisy is a Maltese / Yorkie mix and she's 4 years old. 🐶 I (chad) work in IT and have been with the same company for 17 years and have telecommuted for the last 8 of those years. Tara does all of our editing, which is a full time job. Nomad life is a great fit and we're so happy we can share it via our channel. I a previous life, I was an aviation electronics tech in the US Navy and I've done a bit of network wiring at one point in the beginning of my IT career. I know just enough to be dangerous. 1) Does your wifi ranger mobile router connect to an antenna unit mounted on your rooftop?
2) If I dont plan to use any public wifi (security concerns), then i can skip the wifi ranger (and use another capable mobile router)?
3) Im assuming the hotspot and mimo does not help with enhancing cellular phone call connectivity. Any leads?

1) The WFR acts as our internal "home" wifi (everything in our home connects to it) and it can connect upstream (to the internet) via a couple methods:
a) Another Wifi - this can be campground wifi or hotspot wifi.
this can be with or without the external antenna booster option
b) USB Tether directly to a hotspot (best option)
2) You can skip the Elite AC bundle, but still get the CoreAC. That's what we have done since we never use park wifi - they almost always suck
3) This depends on if you have wifi calling enabled on your phone. This is an option on iPhones, not sure about others. If you have this enabled, your phone can use your wifi and hence the WFR and hotspot. Other than that, no, it does nothing for the cell signal itself. for that you can use a booster: ruclips.net/video/3UwAuJInlls/видео.html

Great video we have a wingard on the roof its been great choice for us so fare but we are not full timing yet all the parks we stay at so fare has great wifi but we us our phone as a back up
Like you say, "Not having a good Internet connection is NOT an option". I do training via the telephone and Internet. I use my cell phone (or Skype) and the Internet for trng sessions. Clients pay me $2k per pop. So, I have to perform. I will be traveling/camping and WILL NEED good communications and, yet, I'm not all that technical. Do you have any video on VPN? I'm hearing more and more about this and I believe it's related only to Internet security but ???
Yes... VPNs are strictly for security (and sometimes anonymity). Since the WifiRanger is also a firewall and anything we do is over SSL, we don't use one. If we did, it wouldn't change anything in our setup though. A VPN is just a way to "tunnel" all of your traffic so it's hidden.
