They're probably healthier boiled but I promise you the fried probably taste a million times better!! And I would definitely use Cool Whip instead of sour cream or maybe even cream cheese. ❤❤❤❤❤

Josh seems like the kind of dude who survived a road trip with a mixtape filled with all kinds of Cap’n Jazz and Algernon Cadwallader and then made it home and still has love for his mom. Momma might have needed to knead that dough a little bit more. Dumpling dough takes about 5 or more minutes kneading. It has to be quite firm, then even more flour is used to roll the dough out, but at least they held up. Cherry vareniki is okay. I’m kind of way too much of a pro at vareniki for not being from a Slavic country. Definitely the flavor profile of our maraschino preserved cherries don’t really match this recipe. Maybe try the one I’ve been making lately: good ol Shirley Temple sodas with some grenadine. Although I can’t seem to get it as good as a lot of restaurants might be the kind of grenadine I bought. Put a little whip cream on top to really stick it to the false Mormon soda dieties. You can find sour cherries in jars. Cherry pie filling wouldn’t be very good either. It’s such a wonder that Midwest USA is the largest most forbidden cherry growing region in the World and yet the cherry quality in stores in USA is median, or a lot of it gets made into maraschinos and preserved cherry fillings. Anyway, none of it is bad, but find yourself some nice tart cherries maybe even a bag of fresh ones and pit them yourself and this recipe would turn out much better. If you want like the easiest Ukrainian recipe try lenievie vareniki which basically is you knead the dough with tvorog farm cheese (ricotta is similar and there is an identical Italian recipe called Ricotta gnudi) they’re basically like the little Italian gnocchis, but instead of putting potato or root vegetable into the knead you add fresh farm cheese. Now their tvorog farm cheese is probably most similar to any semi soft cheese like ricotta, mascarpone, a lot of goat cheeses. Same with those you knead for long enough so that they are easy to roll and shape but the shape for the lenieve vareniki much easier than stuffed vareniki you simply knead the farm cheese directly into the dough. Then you can top your plate with a little bit of cherry jam and sour cream. It’s like the easier version.
I knew you were going to make that face when I saw you spreading the sour cream 😂 If you mix 1/4 cup of sour cream with 1/4 cup of cream cheese, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract and 3 tablespoons of finely blended sugar or powder sugar, it's a delicious sweet topper for any dessert or put it in a small bowl and use it to dip fresh fruit in ❤️
Try frying them in a little bit of oil then try mixing a teaspoon of vanilla in two cups of powdered sugar and add three teaspoons of water that will make a glaze I strongly urge you not to add sour cream or mayonnaise to them at all and make sure that you seal the edges with a fork so that they don't bust open
These Ukrainian Vareniki,pierogi,dumplings(whatever you want to call them) with sour cherries actually look quite appealing and delicious, prepared the correct way😋 The sour cream does sound good with the savory taste of sour cherries. There are many ways to prepare them and different fillings you can add😂

Ukrainian dumplings a.k.a perogies. Fruit ones are usually sprinkles with sugar. Boil then fry lightly in butter. Good attempt!
