    Excellent analysis of the game... and this is coming from a Kiwi! Well done Boks absolute class last night and all tournament... Today hurts a lot as I felt on another day we would have had it... but as Naas put it - you gotta win on the scoreboard and that is all that matters, there isn't another day...

    • @IwasInThe60s
      @IwasInThe60s Год назад +7

      It had to hurt for one of the two teams. Only one can win on the day. Don't worry, the ABs have got youth on their side and they are building nicely. Maybe next time we will be hurting.🤷‍♂The final could have gone either way, in any case, so neither team was really better than the other, they were both great. Unfortunately, NZ missed two kicks at poles and that was ultimately the only difference.

    • @johnnystrand8433

      The spectacle doesn't matter? Getting the big decisions right and consistent doesn't matter? Shoe on other foot the Saffers would be begging for blood. So proud of the ABs to stick at it like they did and make a game of it but Fozzy didn't deserve the WC honour but the players did.

      The AB's, definitely, are begging for blood. Which great team wouldn't.
      Stop with this 20/20 hindsight nonsense and just accept your loss and move on.
      When it happens to the Saffers in the future, as it will, they will have to move on.
      But for now, the Bokke are the World Champs for the next 4 years, like the last
      4. And, noone knows what surprises are lurking the 4 years thereafter.

      @@zimzambambangbang4802... You are wrong about that ... Naas Botha arguably has the best rugby brain the world has ever seen ... He would have done well under any set of rules ... The rules at the time he played however heavily favoured a kicking game, & he was a veritable points machine, particularly adept at drop goals ... He, as flyhalf, instructed his loose forwards to do their job of tackling, so he could be free to concentrate on his job at flyhalf, ie to generate points ... After all, a flyhalf cannot make points while tied up in a ruck ... Makes good rugby sense ...

    • @dirkfolscher3001
      @dirkfolscher3001 Год назад

      Well, that's the way the game is supposed to be played. If everyone just do his job, you win the game. There is a certain role every player has to fullfill, and if they do it well, the game is won. Naas will be the first one to admit that he could rack up the points, because his forward pack, absolutely demolished the opposision. But he had kicking skills that were never duplicated by any other player. So he did his job brilliantly, and is the best flyhalf ever.@@edievanzyl2629

In my childhood you were a legend when you played, and you're still a legend. Best wishes with your future endeavours, and congratulations to the Springboks in becoming the 2nd consecutive winner of the RWC (sorry, couldnt help it). One point of contention, its easy to peak every four years to win a tournament, but its alot more difficult to maintain that position over 2 terms, or 3 terms. Class is permanent, but even the riff-raff has its day in the sunlight.

    Thank you so much for that frank and objective take on the final. It is classic Naas, saying it as he sees it, but with the addition of total sense and expertise. For those who ask if the Boks were worthy winners, Naas is absolutely right: the score board never lies, and we must forget the 'would have, should have, could have etc.'.
    One major fact, not a point, a FACT, the Boks played the 5 of the top teams in world on their way to the final, including the All Blacks in the final. Fact: it was the hardest route to the final in the history of the world cup in terms of teams they played against on the world ranking basis. No doubt whatsoever that they are worthy champions.
    Naas, may I ask, I heard that you were involved in coaching of sorts in India. What is your take about the future of Indian rugby based on your experience over there? tks

    Naas Botha, the legend. Thanks for your breakdown of the Final and the RWC. I appreciate your fairmindedness in regard to the yellow and red cards given to NZ. Regardless of whether my team won or lost, I think the TMO, ref and rules are trying their best to ruin the game. I'd prefer to go down to my local park and watch a game. World Rugby is to blame here for having too many frustrating rules which are inconsistently ruled upon. Now they're trying to water down the quality of the Tournament by expanding to a 24 team event in 2027. Also, perhaps the 2 Nations playing the game, in future, can jointly select a referee to officiate the game. 2 SH teams... surely a neutral SH ref would be best for the occasion given they will referee to the style both sides are all used to... same applies to 2 NH teams playing. As a rugby spectacle, absolutely terrible advertising for our game given all the stoppages and indecision. Congratulations once again South Africa.

Congratulations to the AB's , they could have won that game despite being 1 man down . Not to get into any negativity and because I thought the officiating was good but I have a question about the Shannon Frizell incident with Bongi . When I first saw it , I thought that knee going down was deliberate and was quite angry . I let it go and not letting it colour my view of the game but for the sake of my sanity , am I completely off base to think that could have been deliberate ?

    I tend to disagree with him on many of points. The yellow card was maybe harsh. The red card was correct. Naas obviously never saw Jesse Kriel lying on the ground underneath that ruck literally feeling his teeth to check if they were all still in his mouth. New Zealand are notorious for dirty play. They got called out for it at Twickenham just before the World Cup. Seems they never learn. They have no discipline.

    Really great to hear your thoughts and comments here, Naas, as when Pollard kicked, he reminded me of you... But, being the legend that you are - I can't recall any other kicker in your calibre.... Seems you've trained Handre.... Brilliant🎉🎉

    Naas Botha, the greatest number 10 of all time. I do agree that the red card for Sam Cane was too harsh. He clearly did not make a dangerous tackle on purpose.

    Danki baie Naas.

    Damien Willemse was way ahead of anybody on the high ball, especially in the first 30mins, and he spoiled the AB's kicking game. The perfect fullback. Go back and watch the first half hour and look at what he did. Solid as a rock.
