The noise you’re hearing with the exhaust is the adaptive valve right after the muffler before the resonator. There is a flap inside the exhaust pipe that has the same size diameter flap as the exhaust. It is closed with a heavy duty spring. Opened with the flow of the exhaust exiting. You can remove the spring and rotate the square retention holder 90 degrees and it usually goes away. Haven’t heard of anyone having issues after doing this. We have a 16 Escalade. Only issues we have is the AC is leaking and same code for the transmission temperature sensor. Something interesting with that is the code or TSB(tech service bulletin) mentions that the MAF could also be the issue. I got some MAF cleaner sprayed it down and the check engine light has gone away and we picked up a few MPG and notice a little gain in the Butt Dyno.

I purchased my 2016 Escalade pre-owned with an extended warranty from the local dealer, Transmission at 70K needed service for torque converter chatter, replaced fluid and added a harness ant converter. 2nd time at around 80K they replaced the transmission. Infotainment center was replaced because it was flaking out and still does not always connect to blue tooth, usually power radio off and iPhone connects and plays. Both air shock absorbers replaced, upper control arm and lower control arms on driver side both replaced due to ball joints out of specification for local state inspection. Today 02/03/2024 Parking brake set itself, I was out of the vehicle and heard a strange motor sound, now it heeds to be towed to the dealer 2 miles away again because It won't move. Of course it is in my driveway and I had to leave for an emergency, that's how I found out. Normally on a trip I get AVERAGE 30 MPG. Recently only 15 MPG on a trip. I've owned my 2016 Escalade for about a year. It just turned 60,000 miles. I noticed a few drops of something on my garage floor. It looked like possibly from the differential. It was definitely something oily. I wiped it up and haven't seen any drops since then. The weather has warmed up a bit, so maybe it only leaks when cold? I did crawl up under the car and I don't see any wetness anywhere. But, I do regularly go for a car wash in the winter months with undercarriage wash. If I took it to a shop, they wouldn't notice any seepage either. I will check the fluid level next and add if necessary. When I have time, I'll replace the gasket. Not a terribly difficult fix, but honestly, of all the cars I've owned, I've never had a differential leak. For a car with this mileage, it's pretty inexcusable, tbh. I guess there are worse problems you cold have...

Wow I was not expecting such a new vehicle to have that many issues. I drive a Chevy avalanche and I was looking to get the escalade as a family truck. I think this video helped my decision
2013 Escalade Platinum 89,000 kms purchased new 2012. Garaged daily in Niagara, the "Banana Belt" . "highway vehicle" so its just sitting right now. No towing. I haven't had any of those problems you've had. Original brakes as mostly highway miles on trips. 3 trips to Texas, 3 to Florida, 8 to Cape Cod, numerous trips "up north" a 5 1/2 hr drive one way. My previous 2008 Escalade did have the electrical acting up at times.
Good to know the issues you've had 👍🏻 im going to sell my 2009 Escalade and I'm looking into getting a 2016-2019 Escalade like yours. Keep on making great informative videos 👏🏻
Thanks for the watch! I/we do like our Escalade and have had more positive time with it than negative. Let me know if you have any other questions about our 2016 Escalade!
You may want to keep your 2009 for a back up! I got Rid of my 2009 Escalade and bought the 2017 Escalade ESV and I’m having nothing but problems. Please please do your research. The 2021 is about to launch soon so we’ll see what goes on with that one.
Lot’s of good suggestions and definitely a variety of experiences here so far. I will be putting together a video soon with a follow-up on the last issues mentioned in the video as well as things I like about the current generation Escalade.
Well fortunately for us they were charging GM since it was/is still under warranty. Now that our free oil changes are almost done, I will be doing the maintenance items. Stay tuned/subscribe for more Cadillac Escalade content soon!
My 2010 Escalade esv only gave me an issue with the door handle. Literally no other issues but I'm also in Florida. The ice where u are has major affects on vehicles
Same mine 08 esv Awd has been making 650whp with an lsa blower kit for 30k miles and she’s at 150k now with stock drivetrain, these trucks are brutes if you treat them well
Had to replace and fix the cue screen. was going to cost $900, I did it myself for $120 and 2 hours. The radiator was cracked as well. fixed and swapped out $1,400. This was a recall and should have been taken care of by GM even if it was not under warranty. Now I am having trouble with Adaptive cruise disabled. I have not had cruise control since buying it. they want $2,000 to fix this front-long radar sensor. Add the 4 new tires and I am in for $4,700 in my first 2 months. The truck looks awesome just wish it was as reliable as my 2015 Tahoe LTZ was.
I have a 2017 Escalade Luxury and we took it to the Service Dept 3 times because of the transmission. There is a delay in the acceleration and also feels like it always a vibration under the driver side when driving. The dealership keeps saying ohh there’s nothing wrong but keep in mind this was at 40k miles. Escalades look nice but at the price you pay that truck should drive like you floating on clouds.
2007 Denali still good. Very minor problems i was able to fix. Air ride needed a new compressor and shocks, but did myself and saved major dough. I always keep up and maintain my vehicle and it shows. I also have done some upgrades and modifications as well. Love my Yukon Denali and has been very reliable considering it's age.
Yep, the 6.2 in 2007 to 2010 is non afm, so less headaches with that cylinder cut off technology. All I need to do lately is replace the oil pan gasket. Leaking a little, but only because of age. It's awd did pretty well during our snow event last couple months in the Northwest too. Still reccomend it.
@@mercedesbenzs600bash Happy to offer some advice. The afm is okay when maintained properly, but still not as solid as non afm. Also, the lifters i the afm system may eventually mushroom on a higher mileage motor. There's plenty of 'how to' videos on removing afm and examples of collapsed lifters on amf motors.
@@20tea I am not a DIY kinda guy, lol,I did see a few of those videos though, those 07-10 sounds like their pretty solid vehicles,I've seen some with over 300,000 miles and still running...
I heard a couple of years ago, from a service director at the place where I bought my 2018 Escalade, that GM had a lot of problems with transmissions for 2017. That included Escalades Yukons Denalis too.So It was a bad year. True or not I have avoided that year. I bought the 2018 Luxury. It only develops problems when the dealer mechanics touch it! Brand new the cowl at the bottom of the windshield was not flush, took it in to get looked at, mechanic drops tool on windshield and busted windshield, new windshield replacement scratched. Finally a third one got installed. At 15500 miles the left cv axle boot was leaking grease. They replaced the cv axle boot and now the truck does not drive straight and the steering wheel is rotated to the left, permanently. Took it back and they blamed me and wanted me to pay for front end alignment. I refused and told them you broke it you fix it. They said they did a front end alignment. I did see on my front camera that they put it on a front end alignment machine, but it came back worse: steering wheel still rotated to the left and vehicle pulls to the right. Going back in 2 days. Shall see. I would not buy a used Escalade unless: 1. low milage 2. CPO with all guarantees clearly written so there is no room for argument. 3. no after market warranties, never trusted those. 3. Carfax report with ALL the pages, not just the first page ( had a dealer screw me on that with my second Yukon which I bought used). 4. ask if the vehicle has been in ANY kind of collision, when and where. Dealers buy cars from other states where they have been in a collision and they don't tell you. Not necessary according to the maintenance schedule, but I have changed the rear differential fluid, front differential fluid and transfer case fluid. Not difficult to do. The differential fluids were not excessively dirty, however the transfer case magnet had more shavings than I liked to see at 15,500 miles. I might just change it again at 18500 miles to compare. Otherwise the truck runs really well and is quiet and smooth. Just don't know how long I want to keep it, maybe till the extended warranty runs out?
You said you would not recommend buying a used one unless it was low mileage. Considering all of the problems you’ve had at only 15,000 miles, how much lower can you go? I’ve seen Lexus’s with over 300,000 miles with far less trouble than your Escalade.
@@Mabeylater293 and guess what? Sold it with 26,500 miles Oct. 2021, because I kept having issues and the dealers kept brushing me off. And I bought a ………….Lexus GX 460 😂😂😂which I hope to get at least 300,000 trouble free miles on it. Knowing now what my experience was plus all the other reviews and issues and information there is out there, I would not buy another Escalade. One more thing LOOK AT THE NOW OBLIGATORY! Onstar fees! GM has officially lost their minds.
was all this work Done under Warranty ? my Wallet is not So Deep so i Got a 2017 Tahoe instead , No Air Ride , No Magnetic Shocks , no Rear Entertainment , but it has Leather and Sunroof , Gloss Black 6 Spke 22" rims Same as Escalade Sport . but only 5.3L Engine and 6 speed trans , Black Tahoe - Amber Fog Lights
All Warrantied. No problems there. It goes in tomorrow for a replacement camera and steering wheel media controls. We had a Yukon Denali prior with very little problems.
I had bought a brand new Chevy Tahoe and it was defective. Long story short I hired the best attorney in the country and believe me he is the best, he has never lost to GM. The dealership didn’t make the vehicle so I took them out of the loop and got them on my side. The attorney I hired is Vince Magna, research him and like I said if your vehicle is new or still has warranty you have a chance but if it’s used then I’m sorry. By.
Great video! You gave me a lot to think about. Im currently considering buying a '18 or '19 escalade with about 50k miles on it. Either that or a expedition platinum, same years. Around 40k miles. Your thoughts on either?
You mean the chatter or rumble strip feeling while driving around 35 MPH? My 2015 Yukon Denali trans was serviced and fixed 3 separate times at 40,45,60K That inside harness was replaced with the newest revision, the torque converter was replaced. Still rumbled. I Traded it on a pre-owned 2016 Escalade and had the same concern. They replaced the transmission under warranty. Still 2 weeks without the vehicle because of the GM parts strike.
Hello, I am from Europe, specifically from Poland. We Europeans appreciate exotic cars, including American ones with powerful engines. I am deeply saddened that Americans complain a lot about the Cadillac Escalade - I didn't think they were so prone to breakdowns. I have a question for you: would it be a better choice to go for a 2010 Suburban
problem 1 can be solved with rust proofing. Any car doesn't matter what company they all hate rust. I had to replace the front struts on my elantra because the last owner never rust proofed it. Now I rust proof it every winter no issues. Same with my moms CRV the strut, oil pan and steering rack all started rusting and leaking like crazy. All cars hate salt trust me just pay $100 instead of $5000 to replace the parts
Me too, like 3-4 times now and they just keep doing the same thing. And the dealer says they are like $125 each, I found them elsewhere for $50 though. No longer under warranty because they are an exterior trim piece I was told.
I'm still driving my 2013 Lincoln navigator the only thing I've had to replace are the Air suspension $600 dlrs in total did it my self. And the regular maintenance that i never forget. I live in South Central Texas barely rains so my truck has not one bit of rust !!. But I do believe new Moder cars are build for the Casual drive not a Daily, their interiors are very delicate. But you said the escalade had Cracked radiator. Suspension problems and codes besides that my friend also has a 2020 escalade which has had even more issues with the AC which the Dealer said they had to dissemble the engine bay and the interior dash tho may create more problems by doing so he said " might better just trade it in and get another one. " Cadillac quality is not the same anymore. Get a Lincoln Navigator those trucks are built like a tank and their interior quality is very well made !!!!
We have a 2015 Escalade and the only problem we have that you had is the cracked radiator, but we haven’t done anything about it for the 3 years it’s been “cracked”. We don’t have any coolant on the ground at all and our coolant level has always stayed the same. But we have had other issues 1) rear shocks go out very often 2) Cadillac cue screen would not respond and would touch things randomly 3) antenna for navigation was water damaged 4) hard transmission shifts when cold 5) lifters in cylinder 7 going out
That lifter failure is a known issue internally and they do not plan to to do a recall because its not a safety issue. Stopped me from buying one last month.
@@Donslife I had a2001 and I regret to this day selling my 2009 Denali XL and getting the Escalade. Not that I hate the Escalade but I'm constantly worrying about it
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I think my intent was to showcase my experience with the current generation and which is still on sale and how the service for issues has been so far. Previously we had a Yukon Denali XL and it had some of its own quirks too. I adjusted the title a little to reflect my video content as we are strongly considering a 2021. My notes for the video help too I think.
ebug1272 I would try this : Disconnect your phone from the devices in your CUE list and also delete the CUE system from your phone’s saved Bluetooth connections. Then reset your phone or your network settings (this might delete your saved wifi info though). Then start CUE and reconnect. The other option is to see if there is a firmware update you can benefit from. Good luck! If you are a subscriber- Thank you!
Hey Franco 👋🏼! Yes a firmware update had been done since the filming of that video. I have a follow up video to the one you’re commenting on. “The Good and Bad - A Review of the Cadillac Escalade. Problems and Issues we’ve experienced” as well as a detailed walkthrough of the vehicle in an upload later today.
Hi Don, I just watched your video. I had a 2016 platinum Escalade. That thing was in the shop for 4 months My list of issues are as follows. Leaky moon roof, dents and scratches while in possession of the dealership, The wood trim around the infotainment loose, the dash rattled, the cooler in the console would not get cold and the rear shock absorber fell off the perch. Local dealership fixed nothing stating can not duplicate and Cadillac could not fix it all after 2 years of ownership.
Sorry to hear that Dave. Hopefully they step up and look after all of it. For some of my issues to get fixed, like the exhaust replacement, only happened because I recorded the noise coming out of the catalytic converter at certain RPMs. I had to email the clip to the service manager. They originally said it was AC lines rattling in the same area an then tightened them up. That clearly wasn’t the problem. Frustrating regardless. Good luck man. Thanks for watching the video too.
Hi Nicole, I used a product from BlueDriver. Bluedriver.com is the main website but you can find the Bluetooth unit many places online and then download the app. Hope that helps!
Bought a 2016 esv...nothing but problems with the transmission along with a few other quirks.luckly we still own our 2014 esv platinum, wife prefers driving the '14 since she feels it's more reliable/safe specially driving the kiddos around. As performance goes they are quit similar. The '16 Is a length or so faster than the '14 In a drag race btw I expected more lol!
Lol. I am with you. The dealership has just contacted us that our backup camera and steering wheel controls will be replaced right away. When they had it in the shop last, the CUE system went blank so that prompted them to respond with repairs! Subscribe (if you want) and catch the next follow-up video.
@@Donslife I personally like our '16.. just like you said besides the issue's we've had she's still plenty fun/comfortable to drive. Our cue system was flickering a few days ago...but seems fine now🤔might have to bring it to the dealers attention if issue repeats.I just subscribed to your channel btw.Keep up the great work!👍🏼
Funny thing, after the CUE system went blank at the dealership, one of the techs said he knew of the problem and there was a potential fix. Prior to that moment, nobody seemed to believe us. We’re just glad it is being dealt with.
@@Donslife Good to hear they are taking care of you!Dealerships can be nightmare to deal with at times..My younger brother bought 2018 escalade and he's having massive problems with the transmission going into neutral while cruising down the hwy😲Dealer tech's did a software update but now it shifts hard going from 1st to 2nd.Now they told him to manually shift the trans...🤔supposedly the computer needs to relearn shift points.Hopfully that fixes the problem.🤞🏼Good luck with your truck bro.👊🏼
They are a 22” factory option. I will briefly be talking about them in my next Escalade video. I blacked out the silver sections and left the highlights as is.
A friend of mine has a desire to buy one of these used, I am tryig to warn her against it. Troublesome and expensive to repair. Especially since she is going from a Lexus.
If you have this truck, do yourself a favor and do oil changes every 5-6 thousand kilometer...not miles. The AFM will cause faulty lifters. Get your tranny fluid and filter changed every 50 thousand km
I don't understand why do you have most of those concerns, I have the Platinum one and I don't have the first issue with it. I wish see how do you drive the vehicle 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Honestly my wife drives it most of the time. I think our Canadian climate has a lot to do with some of the problems. We see -50°C to +30° weather and the roads take a beating as a result. Overall we do enjoy the vehicle despite the problems that have been looked after by warranty (so far). I have a follow-up video that I will be posting but we are waiting on Cadillac Cue parts that are on order from the US. The COVID-19 crisis has delayed receiving the parts as well as getting the service done. I hope my wife isn’t driving like a lunatic 😊
@@Donslife I like the look better than the 4th gen, definitely appreciate the panoramic roof, the fact that they changes the suspension to something more durable but does it purr like the 3rd gen?

My previous 2008 Escalade did have the electrical acting up at times.
What year did they come out with the PLATINUM model???
Platinum model Escalade -offered by Cadillac on the ESV (long base) 2004 model year. I'm not sure on the regular size Escalades

Sounds like Those oil change people and mechanics was breaking your car and having you PAY for it 😨🤦🏽♂️ smh
Well fortunately for us they were charging GM since it was/is still under warranty. Now that our free oil changes are almost done, I will be doing the maintenance items. Stay tuned/subscribe for more Cadillac Escalade content soon!
Having some of these issues with my 2013 XTS. Like the air shock issues and the CUE system just cutting on after I cut the car off.
Did you have any issues similar to the ones described in the Class Action lawsuit such as VOLM and AFM issues?
No I didn’t
My 2010 Escalade esv only gave me an issue with the door handle. Literally no other issues but I'm also in Florida. The ice where u are has major affects on vehicles
I agree 100%. Long, deathly cold winter and short hot summers are hard on our vehicles up here.
@@Donslife oh man. Yea that's not good lol
Same mine 08 esv Awd has been making 650whp with an lsa blower kit for 30k miles and she’s at 150k now with stock drivetrain, these trucks are brutes if you treat them well
@@Donslife Most definitely the truth....
Damn that sucks, I have a 2015 and don't have any issues with mine and any problems I start to find, I fix them before they become an issue.
Once my issues were fixed, we were problem free right up until selling it a few months ago
My cue system cracked on inside by itself.. not working..how did you buy and fix? Thnx
I have a 2004 esv and the truck is good too go!
07 Denali huh, just might check that one out, thanks my man....
@@20tea Yeah I heard the AFM can be a problem,im looking at the 07-10 Denali XL or Escalade ESV,we'll see, good information my man, much appreciated....
Sounds like quite the ordeal, I hope it all works out my friend!
You said you would not recommend buying a used one unless it was low mileage. Considering all of the problems you’ve had at only 15,000 miles, how much lower can you go? I’ve seen Lexus’s with over 300,000 miles with far less trouble than your Escalade.
Thanks!! I want an escalade so bad😩😩😩😩😩😩😩

By.
Thanks for the tip Jesse. Maybe some people on here will look him up!
Great video! You gave me a lot to think about. Im currently considering buying a '18 or '19 escalade with about 50k miles on it. Either that or a expedition platinum, same years. Around 40k miles. Your thoughts on either?
Honestly once everything was addressed the 2016 was great. We recently sold it and upgrade to a 22 sport platinum
The transmission is a harness inside the pan, it’s common on the 8speed trans, it’s very simple, the valve body has to be pulled down
For which issue ?
You mean the chatter or rumble strip feeling while driving around 35 MPH? My 2015 Yukon Denali trans was serviced and fixed 3 separate times at 40,45,60K That inside harness was replaced with the newest revision, the torque converter was replaced. Still rumbled. I Traded it on a pre-owned 2016 Escalade and had the same concern. They replaced the transmission under warranty. Still 2 weeks without the vehicle because of the GM parts strike.
So the lifter issues arent common?
I hadn't heard of may issues with these ones. 2019+ I have heard there are more issues in the trucks predominantly
11th problem. You let your wife drive
problem 1 can be solved with rust proofing.
How do you rust proof?
@@coop98 krown rust proof in Ontario.
Add 11. Damn side doors pallets pop-out. Last year had it replace new from the dealer and the same problems again, sick of this problem.
I had the same problem. I fixed it with JB Weld.
Me too, like 3-4 times now and they just keep doing the same thing. And the dealer says they are like $125 each, I found them elsewhere for $50 though. No longer under warranty because they are an exterior trim piece I was told.
Which part is the side door pallet? Thanks
I own a 2017 and have a couple of these problems
But we have had other issues
1) rear shocks go out very often
2) Cadillac cue screen would not respond and would touch things randomly
3) antenna for navigation was water damaged
4) hard transmission shifts when cold
5) lifters in cylinder 7 going out
Wow Manpal, thanks for sharing. We’ve been smooth sailing without any issues.
That lifter failure is a known issue internally and they do not plan to to do a recall because its not a safety issue. Stopped me from buying one last month.
I love the color scheme on it bad ass
That's why Im keeping my 07 Yukon Denali XL! Never had any of these Problems! Good vid though!

Having issue with bluetooth connecting and disconnecting from phone any idea how to fix this problem
ebug1272 I would try this : Disconnect your phone from the devices in your CUE list and also delete the CUE system from your phone’s saved Bluetooth connections. Then reset your phone or your network settings (this might delete your saved wifi info though). Then start CUE and reconnect. The other option is to see if there is a firmware update you can benefit from. Good luck! If you are a subscriber- Thank you!

Hi Don,
I just watched your video.
I had a 2016 platinum Escalade.
That thing was in the shop for 4 months
My list of issues are as follows.
Leaky moon roof, dents and scratches while in possession of the dealership,
The wood trim around the infotainment loose, the dash rattled, the cooler in the console would not get cold and the rear shock absorber fell off the perch.

No these are common issues with all of them. I see all of these signs with my wife’s 2015.
It's a modern day GM. So you'll have problems just like every modern day manufacturer

Not much you can do!
Got a 09 7 years ago. Was thinking of upgrading. This video saved me a lot of money.
If you have this truck, do yourself a favor and do oil changes every 5-6 thousand kilometer...not miles. The AFM will cause faulty lifters. Get your tranny fluid and filter changed every 50 thousand km
I have a 1999 Tahoe and a 2015 . The 99 Tahoe gives me a much better ride.
Don’t flip it. The roof is about as strong as Popsicle sticks.
