    The reason I use braid to fl is I can use different pound leader’s. Usually it’s 10# braid to 8-12# fl leaders.

    Appreciate the tips as always. I went through three different kinds of fluorocarbon after seeing some of your earlier arguments for this in videos. The last straw for me was spending the money on invizX 6lb. Installed line wet and correct direction as you showed here on 2500 and 3000 size reels. Even tried line conditioner. I just flat out could not get a decent result. It made fishing miserable with the line twist that would develop after the first couple casts. I was forced back to braid.
    Anyone else out there unable to make this work?

      First read my comment on how drag can put twist in your line. I'll have five or six rods on deck & the only rod with floro is for jerking, it does get me alittle deeper. It's mono on my other spinning rods.

      I experienced so many problems with Fluorocarbon and Braid I finally decided to use only Monofilament. I thought, “I’m 69 and trying to catch a PB. I do not want to waste time messing w/line issues. I want to be fishing and Mono has always worked fine for me.” I don’t fish competitively, just therapy & fun from a kayak. Haven’t looked back and caught a new PB since. Mono & a spinning rig. Imagine that! It still works fine.

      @@terrytresemer2864 I think mono is going to be where I end up. At least then I won't have to tie leaders.
      Your point about reeling against drag does hit home a bit. I fought a 3lb spot on 6lb fluoro drop shot. I do remember it really being screwed after that. The other reels I did not do this on and still had a frustrating time with fluorocarbon.

      I'm not crazy about fluorocarbon myself but do use it for jerk baits. Gets me alittle deeper! ONE other hint, if your on the water and get twist. I keep some bell sinkers with swivel attached of a couple different weights, remove the lure, tie on the swivel and make a couple of long cast. Real in the line in a slow pumping motion to get the twist out. Try it see how it works, beats responding .

    I don't have braid to flouro on my finesse spinning reel...I use braid to mono, lol. I can't justify changing something that works so well for me. I use a medium power rod with a softer tip and combined with the mono; I get all the feel with great hook setting power. If straight flouro works best for you, then by all means keep at it. In my 4+ decades on the water, the one truth I've discovered is that different systems work for different anglers.

Whatever line I have on my reel is what's tied to the lure, period. I have caught many species of fish in the double digit range with just one line tied on. I am so gland that Randy stands against the mob mentality on issues like this. Thank you.

    I run straight Pline 6lb - 8lb fluoro coated on my spinning reels and love it. The one thing I do to stop bird nesting, and such is right after my cast I raise my rod to up to let it straighten out any loops or kinks that might be in my line before I start reeling. This will keep you from creating a loop on the spool that will cause the birds nest on your next cast. I can't remember the last time I had a bad bird nest or such and I fish a lot.

    I have been fighting spinning reels and fluorocarbon line since it first came out . I am forced to use fluorocarbon on spinning reels to fish for smallmouth on Lake Erie because of its properties. It’s invisible, it has low stretch, it sinks which makes it a good choice for bottom bouncing lures. On the other side of the coin it is not user friendly. I suggest having several spools ready to go when you have a train wreck. Also buy the larger spools of line and go with the larger reel spools as this seems to help. When possible add a small barrel swivel to help remove line twist. Don’t make a cast until you have looked at the spool for a loop.

    Hey Randy ever since I started using bigger spinning reels and bigger line spools I've had no problems like I did before useing smaller spinning reels and the 200 yd spools. Thanks for the great tip on wetting the line down god bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike. Ps I stopped using braid on my spinning reels 15 yrs ago I think on spinning rods it's useless and you get less bites and it just runs into a lot of money for nothing. And I also think this Bs that braid cast further than floro I don't care what anybody says I tested this thery so many times and every time I've casted further with the floro . Let's see one is smooth and the other is made out of fibers and yes I will admit the braid with polyethylene in it handles much better but braid does not cast further than floro period I don't care what any pro fisherman says that's to get you to buy the braid and a leader is another place where your line can break. God bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike

  • @jonathangiven9073

    I’m not sure this helps, but I spool mono by putting a pencil through the spool and have the line come straight off the horizontal spool. I definitely pinch the line to keep it “taught”, but I’ll try wetting the spool and increasing the pressure I put on the line as I spool it up. And when I cast, I always put my finger on the spool at the end of the cast to keep any loose line from creating a loop. It takes some of the “sail” out of the casted line. I’ll do a “line check” occasionally by taking the line after a cast and and bringing a foot or so from the eyelet to the spool just to see if there’s a line twist issue pending. I might tie on a spoon with a swivel and take a few casts if the line twist is looking imminent. Your mileage may vary.

    • @tablerockkid8237
      @tablerockkid8237 2 года назад +2

      Jonathan - did you realize that when you put the line spool on a pencil or other object and spool it directly on your reel you are putting line twist into your line as you wind it on the reel. Due to the nature of spinning reels, that line needs to come off that spool of line over the end of the spool to prevent this twist. Sit the spool up on end so the line unwind in the same direction as your reel bail rotates when you wind the reel (as viewed from the butt of the rod). Looking from the butt of the rod, if your bail is turning counterclockwise (as most reels do) then that line needs to be coming off the line spool in a counterclockwise fashion. This allows the line to lie on the reel spool in the proper fashion. Any other method puts twists in the line as you crank it onto the reel. Hold the line to get tension on it as you fill the reel. Work slowly and deliberately. Put the spool of line in a container of warm water while filling the reel. You might even soak it a while in warm water before you start. This method inside a you have the least possible amount of twist on the line as you fill the reel. When you eventually do get line twist from normal fishing, take off your lure, and let line off the reel as you item across the lake, letting the line trail off into the water. Once you have let out all the twisted line, trail it behind the boat and the tension of the water will remove the twists in the line as you idle along. Once the line is twist free (usually after trailing it a few hundred yards behind the moving boat) stop and wind it back onto the reel. This will help prolong the time you can use that line before having to change it out. I've been doing this for decades, and I have very few problems with fluoro or monofilament line on my spinning reels.

    Another option, albeit a bit more cumbersome, is to measure the amount of line you want on your reel, and remove it from the factory spool. Pull a hundred yards or so down the driveway and cut it off. Then spool it into your reel with the opposite end of the line not fixed to anything. This is the only true way to wind it on with no twists!

    I put braid on all my spinning reels....and will never again put any fluoro or mono on my spinning reels ever.....except for leader materiel...this has been my experience for the past decade of trial and error, and braid is my choice for spinning reels....I fish mostly from the shorelines at my local ponds/lakes...I need extra casting distance to reach the fish at these highly pressured lakes, and braid on my spool is the only way to make further casts....I use long, very lightweight spinning rods (10-11 ft) and a 3000-5000 series reel to gain the extra distance I need to cover lots of water from shore and reach the fish that are nowhere near the shoreline....Obviously this type of setup is not for everyone, but there’s nothing like hooking a bass over 200 ft from shore....no way can that be accomplished using 12-15 lb fluoro or mono on a spool...there wouldn’t be enough line on the reel to make that long of casts....besides, it wouldn’t make sense to cast a 3/4-1 oz lure on 4 or 6 lb test mono...12-16 lb braid diameter is equivalent to 2-4 lb test mono.

    Thank you so much! I don't use flouro leaders either, I have spare spools on my spinning reels so I have braid and flouro. I have struggled with flouro on my spinning reels though. Is there a line that you find works better than others to reduce twists and do you use line dressing?

    I'm 100% Invisex 100% Fluorocarbon based on your recommendations. Good enough for you = Good enough for me.

    There's one more thing that will cause line twist and I've even seen pro's do it. That is to crank against the drag! If you turn the handle once while the drag is in play your putting twist in your line. I tighten my drag to about 80 percent of the test. A bait caster is a wench & doesn't matter. Spinning gear the line peels off in a different fashion. Pull back and reel down till the fish is in. When I started at 9yrs old it was spinning gear with 4lb test for trout. Hard lessons in my youth have stuck with me in life.

    Dry climate and pH balance has a negative effect as well.Fluoro takes a beating in Arizona ,but you need it because of the water clarity.I use a leader to braid because I'm not a pro who gets line for free,nor do I have 8 spinning rods on my deck with different pound line.if I want to go from six pound to 10 pound,it takes me roughly 5 minutes to strip 7 ft of leader and change it.Think of all that fluoro that is wasted once your spool starts to get low on the reel and you got to change all of it

    I’m a convert Randy. Once I found the right rod, my jerk bait success has been much better than on casting gear. Thank you! The time savings also of not retying braid to flour knots is also a big reason to do it in my opinion.

    I am not a tournament fisherman, so a lost fish due to a line break doesn’t cost me a possible financial loss. That being said, i spool my lines fully with fluorocarbon line and fish a full year without needing to change it. I do respool every spring for the year, but to be fair, some of my rods I rarely use, still have line from Maybe two to three years with no issues. (Now they also are stored inside a climate controlled room)

    I'm assuming your laying the spool flat on the floor. Label up or down? With that invizx. Curious. Thanks

    Iv never had any problems with straight floro unless I over fill the spool. Also use invisx!

    Please explain what the disadvantage are, really! I have been fishing for around 40 plus years being over 50 and would like to understand why I should change my opinion. I personally have come to the conclusion that braid to florocarbon is much better than straight braid. Also on my spinning reels running nanofil not only gives me better casts but the ability to run stronger line with a stronger leader without wind knots. I do run straight florocarbon on my baitcasters some times but only have found that I don't loose lures and main line when I get a backlash sense braid is so small and has no stretch.

    Easy solution for anybody is to have their spool professionally loaded at the tackle shop. I do hundreds in a month where I work at Sportsmans Warehouse. Heavy tension and a wet cloth on all flouro and braid installs. I hate mono on a spinning reel for the memory it has especially for a beginning angler.

    Do you have a favorite knot to attach the line to the spool ? I use an Arbor Knot but if you have a better one, give it up, Brother ! Lol

    Randy, I do use 15 lb braid to 10 lb fluorocarbon, however I am breaking off alot. I use Seager Abrasx fluorocarbon. What is the best knot to tie with fluorocarbon and how do you know the correct weight to set your drag? I think these 2 things are my problem because my line is new and it's breaking about 4x a tournament. Thanks for your help and love the videos.

      Tie the double sandiego clinch knot. It is the strongest knot you can tie. Also i suggest using sunline super fc sniper 10lb. Now i will agree it is expensive. Pretty much the same price as seagar but sunline is the absolute best fluorocarbon I've ever used. Berkley vanish and P-line floroclear are the worst fluorocarbons i have ever used. I broke off dozens of fish with berkley vanish.

    I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.

    When I use straight FC, I get it on fine. If I’m throwin a hardbait(jerk/crank) into the wind, the lure tumbles. 6-7 casts down the road all hell breaks loose. It’s not for me.

    Hey Randy what do you think about this. Spooling half of your spinning reel with cheap/used braid and spool the rest of the spool with fluorocarbon. Just have the braid as a back to not spool all that line with fluorocarbon and just waste the flouro that's bottom of the spool???

    • @jackreacher357
      @jackreacher357 2 года назад

      Randy gets all his fluorocarbon for free. If you fish all day with flourocarbon and a spinning reel you will have loops and twists. If you look closely at Randy's spinning rod and reel, you can çlearly see he has no idea how the new fluorocarbon works. Dinosaur.
