Well done Mo. You should be proud of yourself for making the tough decision to move back rather than forcing to make things work. As someone who has lived in 4 different countries other than Nigeria and has moved back home and out again a few times, I can tell you that going back home is always good reset. Home is a good place to pause, reflect and reevaluate your goals. Nigeria also stretches you and has a way of building a different kind of resilience in you. Glad to see that you’re Christian so I can speak freely. 2 pieces of advice I’d like to leave you with are: 1) Spiritual: Remember that the Holy Spirit is your helper - lean on Him to navigate this season effectively. 2) Career: Networking is your “life line”. Network like your life depended on it. Go to events, meet people, put yourself out there and connect with people. In Nigeria connection is key to unlocking many doors. I hope this helps. Good luck with everything Xx!

✨OMG Mo! Been a minute, not sure you’d remember me from Instagram 😊 I totally understand how you feel, making that decision is always tough I’ve done that TWICE so I totally relate Glad to have you back boo🫂💜
I do not regret moving back.😊 I believe this is where I'm supposed to be in this phase of my life. Currently, I have no plans to relocate. Canada was great but I believe it has served its purpose in my life and I am biased towards the US.😅 So I don't know where or if I’ll move. I'm just a girl trusting God. ❤
Yes, it is expected, but I decided to share for that person feeling the pressure to "make it work" because that's what everyone is doing. Just wanted to remind them that it's okay if they need to do something else. It applies to different areas of life.
Nothing wrong in moving back. In 2015 I did same after my studies in England. Parents were financing my stay from Nigeria while the exchange rate was unfavourable (naira to pounds). I moved back to naija, completed the nysc program , worked for a few years , gained express entry points and moved to CA as a PR with job offer. There are challenges on both sides but making progress is what matters
you are being sooo rude . I can tell you have personal issues . I am in canada with all avenues and even having a stable well paying job but I am going back home. Let me tell you , once you are in canada , if you want to get a pathway you will get it and you will get the papers . It’s a choice trust me , you have probably never been abroad. She has been in US and Canada and you think she just failed to get PR ? She just made the best choice in her life
how would you advice someone who is thinking of doing this but is feeling too much guilt coz parents invested too much money to bring them abroad for a better life.
I totally feel you and it’s a dicey situation but firstly let’s leverage on that phrase “for a better life”. Moving back home doesn’t mean that their investment has gone to waste and you won’t have a better life back home. The experience of living abroad is a lifelong “investment” that no one can take away from you - take it from someone who has moved around a bit and moved back home 3 times and moved out again. I know it’s all deeper than the few lines I’ve written and I might not understand the peculiarly of your situation……but here’s a few things that can make it easy. 1) Prayer: if you really desire to move back home, pray for God to help you navigate the process and to help with your parents supporting your decision 2) Save: Save as much money as you can because Nigeria isn’t for the faint hearted but having some financial resources of your own does help with the process of settling in 3) Have a plan: Write down a blueprint of what you’re going to do. Things might not work as planned but you’ll at least have a guide. Having a plan will also help you navigate the conversation with your parents as it’ll prove you’re focused and know what you want. 4) Network: Using your plan as a guide, start networking with people even before you touch down. Make as much connections as possible because in Nigeria, connection is the key to unlocking doors. I hope this helps. Wishing you all the best Xx!
I don't think any parents want their child(ren) to be unhappy irrespective of the amount spent on them. Firstly, you have to start communicating with them the things your passing through without initially telling them you want to come back...just keep telling them how badly you feel Then with time they might be the ones to ask you to come back or ask you to make your decision but if that is not forth coming, you let them know your plan of coming back The main goal in life is to succeed and that can happen from even Nigeria depending on your zeal and plan. You even have more freedom to succeed in Nigeria. After all, most kids have their lives mapped out by their parents especially career wise but they opted for another thing and still succeeded. It all depend on your zeal and passion.
For someone living in Nigeria.... You really need to set up a strategic plan before you move back. Try and find a job first so you won't be pushed into depression by maaaaaaannnnny questions by evvvvvveeeerrrryyyybody..... please plan your relocation really well.....and when things don't go as you expected back home...... honestly the struggle is real down here......at least you will have a job to keep you busy while you wait for things to turn around......more grace
