Hello, Sorry to hear your N55 has a knock. Often this can be a bottom end noise due to worn out rod bearings. In some cases the rod bearings can be replaced and the engine is still ok in some cases if there is damage to the crank the engine may need replacement.

Thank you very much for this brilliant information! My N55 has been showing this code for almost a year, and I have been experiencing rough idles from cold starts, but everything goes to normal once the engine warms up. I have to clear adaptations and let the car idle for more than 20 minutes for multiple times before actually driving it, then I can somehow work around with any rough idles issues. I never figured out why the procedure I tried somehow works, but your video provides a more reasonable explanation. I will definitely give it a try to unplug the purge valve, and hope it can solve this issue much faster. Thanks again!

I ended up replacing all injectors, spark plugs, vanos positioning sensors, crankcase positioning sensor, mass airflow sensor, manifold pressure sensors, charge pipe, throttle body, ignition coils, etc. and none of it did anything….. i lived with this issue for almost 3 years and nobody could really help me.
Just last month I notices that the boost pipe (which goes out from the intercooler to the charge pipe, and then to the throttle body)
Wasn’t attached properly to the IC. Also the inner seal was so loose inside that air escaped out of the pipe: hence rich condition, since measured air escaped out of the pipe and thus less air entered in the intake manifold.
Changing the inner rubber seal and attaching the pipe properly solved that issue. It felt like winning an argument agains my girlfriend.

I have a 2011 BMW X25 N55 ... and this damned fault code is a real pain in the a...ss.
Have been chasing it since 6 months. I have replaced so many parts and I am very frustrated.
When I start the car, cold or hot, it will rev up itself to 1500 rpm, then go back to 1000 rpm and then gradually down to 650.
The idle needle is stable but I feel rough idle on my seat, intermittent vibration. When chcking N55 start up on youtube, it seems that mine is not so normal (rev to 1500 and go down)
CEL is ON. Fault code is 101F01. I have done the idle procedure countless times, but the fault code will come back everytime.
I have replaced so many parts...Spark plugs, ignition coils, turbo inlet pipe, turbo outler pipe, intercooler, charge pipe, TMAP sensor, Hotfilm MAF sensor, intake manifold gasket, throttle body, puge valve)...
The only light in the dark tunnel I have seen is that one day, after disconnecting purge valve, I cleared the code and I did not reconnect the purge valve electrical connector, I drove the car like that for 3 days.
I put my ISTA-D the 3rd day and checked but the 101F01 code did not show up for those 3 days.
I had CEL ON but it was because the purge valve was disconnected (tank vent disconnected).
So I think my problem may be on the Evap side, because when I isolate it, the code wanish.
    When I check on ISTA, with tank vent connected, I can see several occurences at different speed, rpm and times of this 101F01 code. I believe it follows normal purge valve operation openings and closing during driving;
I don't have smoke machine unfortunately to check tank vent system for leaks. But I suspect that my problem maybe on the tank side. There is no fuel smell in vehicle, I can fill my tank full with problem.
    Any suggestion welcomed

That would be an interesting failure for this code. You can remove the TVV and see if it is closed correctly by blowing through it. At this point I would replace it and recheck since that seemed to make a difference.

Hello, I just changed my hpfp back to oem. Could that be the reason I have the code? So should I just unplug the purge valve and idle for 15 mins?

    • @AskTheCarExperts
      @AskTheCarExperts  11 месяцев назад

Changing to an OEM HPFP should not cause this code. An air leak or if there is any drag on the engine this code can set. In some cases the HPFP can cause some drag or a problem with the cylinder head. But to do the purge valve adaptation reset. Clear the engine adaptations with a scan tool. Then disconnect the purge valve so it cannot activate at idle which would richen the air mixture. Then idle for 15 minutes. Clear the codes and recheck.

i had valvetronic error 2E0F (Valvetronic system: deactivated, too frequent adjustment error) only - not possible to delete, then i changed servomotor, error not gone, add new 2DCE (Valvetronic system: no adjustment possible) - possible to delete, but not 2E0F, i did not did adaptation, drive about 500km, still valvetronic errors and nothing more, then i go to diagnostic (programmer), he connect phone for about 1 min to car, i dont know what he did (also after this my bimmerlink needs more time to connect to engine), but valvetronic error gone, and it start work, BUT when i drive 10 meters, this 28A0 error came imidiately, he told me that this is because = reasons from this video, but i think its somehow related to valvetronic, cause valvetronic and throttle are connected and works together; check engine light on only first time, then i delete it, error cames after start engine without check light, no fluqtuating rpms, no reduced power. what do you think?? could normal adaptation using rheingold solv that problem or really have problems from video??

    Hello Guys,
I got this BMW X5 2012 xdriv35i E70 last year and I am trying to keep it for long term.
I have been dealing with a code : 28A0 ( Air Mss System, plausibility: Calculated air masses in the air intake system not plausible) for long time.

    Map Sensor leaking: FIXED
Superjet pump vacuum line leaking: FIXED
Air box filter gasket leaking: FIXED
    Valve cover gasket leaking: FIXED
    Map Sensor leaking: FIXED
besides that I can't find more vacuum leaks with my smoke teste, I don't see any smoke coming out anywhere.
What else can I do ?
Something also weird is that the EVAP Monitor never gets done.
Car runs perfect , no issues , no bad idle, not knocking (just some times you can feel a small misfire but the RPM does not go crazy.
The light and code triggers when the car is being drive at constantly low RPM (1000rpm-1500rpm) and around speed of 25-35mph.
If avoid those situation I won't get the light but I will get the code sometimes as pending.
I am tired of this code
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Some Live data:
Short trim fuel are usually at 0%
Long term fuel are usually at -2,3%
Short trim sensor 2 is usually at 99.2%
    O2 b1s1 is usually at : 1.4 - 1.5
    O2 b1s2 is usually at : 0.7
Intake manifold pressure after throttle valve: 13.93 psi
Intake pipe vacuum before throttle valve (charging pressure - setpoint value) : 14.65 psi
Intake pipe vacuum before throttle valve: 14.63 psi

Sorry to hear that. One of the most common causes of this fault code are unmetered air leaks. One of the most common spots for an air leak is right where the fresh air pipe goes into the turbo. The seals break down or the whole tube can be loose. I would recommend a smoke test of the system to see if there are any leaks.

@AskTheCarExperts i have an ActiveHybrid3 N55, had an ongoing fault of 2202E3 and a leaking VGC (no CEL/car running strong), replaced the VGC (not the valve cover), after the car was put back together the CEL came on saying lean and implausible reading from MAF.
Found an inlet pipe to be broke (believe the one you mention here), replaced.
Drove the car for 15 mins and the CEL came back - 101F01 - throttle valve opening angle, absolute pressure, intake pipe, comparison pressure too high
118001 - Mixture control, Mixture too lean
118401 - Mixture control, Mixture too lean; large deviation

Hello Sebatsian, I would be happy to give my thoughts on these codes. Air mass issue - smoke test the intake. Air leaks are common at the crankcase hoses and the fresh air intake pipes to the turbos. Rail pressure sensor stuck -- replace the sensor. High pressure plausibility - do the sensor first and recheck. High pressure pumps are also common to fail. Cat efficiency fault - failed CAT often due to leaking injectors. If you find a broken down CAT via inspection via borescope replace the injectors as well as the cat on that bank.
