I frickin loved this one. After every ride we went on when i went, we always came back to this one, and i always came off equally as happy as i was when i first came off. This has to be my favourite, ever.
We went on this in the Half Term. I was way too excited when the organ started playing "The Carousel Waltz" from the musical. My geekiness was overindulged that day :D
I remember going on this ride in the 1970's for the first time, the horses now go up and down, that's usual, however the poles are now fixed. Then they moved backwards and forwards like a real race. There wasa large gap under the poles to let them"slide".
kat dolan yep it has another motor with loads of cables underneath for doing that, sadly disabled but is still there as you can see in this video ruclips.net/video/OdjVBAd10vo/видео.html
kat dolan They used to race in the 1990's when I was a child too. It is still my favourite ride there but wish it still raced. Hey Amanda unfix those poles girl.
A modern built version of the American built Prior & Church Great American Racing Derby. The two original Prior & Church rides from the 1920's the horses move forward and backwards while going up & down.
@Babungus this has no padding and is quite heigh up.It is quite a shock to some going on this ride (more so on the outer horses,) how hard you have to hold on.Thanks for riding : )
Blackpool is definitely on my "Bucket List"! I love this ride! I grew up with the Racing Derby at the Canadian National Exhibition and was heartbroken when they got rid of it in the late 1980's. Horrible time for carousels! :( Since then I've enjoyed the ones at Rye Playland and Cedar Point. I notice this one, like the one at the CNE has been fixed so the horses don't race eachother in the slots, though.
Interesting watched your "underground" video.I know this ride is pretty old. There was no organ music then either, more effective sounded like just the horses hooves.First time I was on this ride I loved it,always loved the old carousels from fairgrounds.
Best ride ever but a bit fast and l went on this ride wen l was little and l like walis and the wonder land l cart wate to agast because l am goner go back to Blackpool pleasure beach
They used to have one of these at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto but some idiots broke in one night and broke all the legs off the horses. Very sad :(
@makeupbyellie36744 The first day I went it was raining so no chance there.I went back last Saturday but it was busy so no front rows.I did get some more filming done,so some more to come.
Slow. If you want to see a fast Derby Racer, look up Derby Racer Rye Playland. They run it fast, Beautiful Illions-carved horses, but a couple years ago Playland slathered plain park paint all over them. They were beautifully painted before that. I grew up right next door to Rye Playland and you can imagine how many times I've ridden that incredibly fast Derby Racer.
were is this ride located in blackpool????? me and my sister and my friend want to go on it [i wanna go on the outside >:D] and how is the food over there???
@@mesmoland It actually is not a carousel, it is a Derby Racer. It still is a subdivision of carousels, but quite different. Carousels can go up to 8 RPMs. Derby Racers can go from 9 RPMs and up.
This has to be the best carousel in the whole world! Go on it early morning when there's not many ppl on, it goes much faster :-p

This ride looks like such fun- It's like one massive carousel! Need to go on it, when next at the pleasure beach!
It's fast too !
yes super fast, I thought it was slow and didnt hold on tight when I went on and nearly fell off!!!
Haha!
I was there yesterday I had to travel there from Scotland and that's my fav ride
I always have a big smile on my face whenever I go on this ride!! I love it!! :)
They have one of these in the U.S. (Cedar Point) That one still has the back-and-forth movements, but the Blackpool Derby Racer still goes fast!
This was and still is one of my favourites, a truly amazing carousel. Went on this as a child and will be taking my kids on it this summer :)
I agree. I loved that ride and wish it was around for my now 18 year old daughter to enjoy like I did
Wait they took it down?
Pun Master No they’re talking about a different ride I went on this ride today. 😂
@@kemitstoes5764 This was at the CNE in Toronto I was referring to. Some brats broke in when the CNE was closed and destroyed the horses :(
when i went on it went super fast!
They look slow but when I was 6 I had to go on it I cried
I loved this ride as a child, I used to pretend I was Silas! 😂😂

These used to do that the mechanism for it is still there. I have a video of underneath ruclips.net/video/OdjVBAd10vo/видео.html

Cool! That must look wonderful at night.
Well, this is on my bucket list now- and it makes me think of Mary Poppins
Don’t bother. It no longer races.
That's good to hear : ) I've been to Pennsylvania but it's the one near Bath England : D
I went on this in the 90's as a kid and my dad came on with me. It was my idea to go in it but ended up in tears when I got off
possibly the best carousel i have been on ;), i go every year to blackpool and always sit on the outside :D
great video as always
My mum took me on this when I was really little (like 3 or 4) because she thought it was a normal carousel, just bigger
Boy was she wrong 🤣

@CoasterBob62 unfortunately it is usually closed before it's dark (closes at 20:00 at the weekends),maybe off season.
Its next to Valhalla, the food in the pleasure beach is fine, and lots of fish 'n chips on the seafront too.
I ROWLEY LOVE THIS RIDE l have been on it sits l was little best ride ever but a bit fast l cart wiat to agast

Went on this today and it scared me more than the Pepsi Max lol.
@mesmoland That's so very true. I actually get more worried on this than on the Big One!
That ride goes fast 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’d LOVE to see an equestrian ride this like a real horse.
I hope you get to ride this, make sure you get an outer horse they are fast and you have to hold on tight.
They used to have one of these at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto but some idiots broke in one night and broke all the legs off the horses. Very sad :(

That things scared the shit outta me I was holding on for dear life XD
Love this ride
this thing is dead fast! when I went on I was like another crappy merry go round and when I was actually On I was like hold on or die!
I am going to Blackpool in August, is it good there?
i loved this ride managed to hold just by the rains not the handles. made me feel like a jockey
Pretending to be a badass by only holding the ropes, while in real life I can't even stay upright on a horse
I can simulate the same feeling at home on my spinny chair. :)

He’s on the inside horses which are slow. Th3 outside ones are fast but it doesn’t race so now it’s derby loser.

Shame that they disabled the "Racing" mechanism.
Dr Ivo Robotnik Geoffrey disabled it. Sad really it’s now got a nickname I came up with, derby loser.
@mandm0408 thank you : )
Yes
@MadCrazyCoaster yes
Lol below me that's exactly what my dad did !
These Are very fast
We go every year
Wait that is a carousel????
Yes it's quite fast on the outermost horses.

Is there smaller horses ?
No all the same size, but if you go on an inside horse they are slower.
Michelle Lisa Shaw yeah there is two this one and a smaller horse ride
