Underrated flat ride, it's quite intense when it picks up speed and especially when you've just come off Valhalla with a wet arse and you're holding on for dear life whilst I'm slowly sliding off my seat. 😅
I'm old enough to remember going on this ride in the 70's.There was no organ or music then and those blocks of wood where the pole of the horse goes though used to be open slits and the horses actually travelled backwards and forwards the length of the slits racing each other in the rows they were not static as they are now. There was a noise of thundering hooves not music. The mechanism that moved them backwards and forwards was discontinued it was too difficult to maintain i think. They were really fast then too.
I used to ride on this when it was fully functioning. It's an amazimg experience, and it needs to be restored to operation. The organ is totally out of place. It would be better suited to a set of gallopers.
We have one at cedat point. Called Cedar Downs. Still operates with the horses racing back and forth. Very fast spin with horses slowly moving forward then back. Loser buys next round and winner picks next ride. It was originally at a park in Ohio called Euclid Beach. It closed and most other of its rides were destroyed. It plays a horse track theme with crowds cheering, horse galloping, and a race caller. It's enclosed in a similar building, but the sides are fully open. The center is an open roof with grass on the ground, and the horses are covered. Similar to a horse track.
@@danielledewitt1 It's a very complicated arrangement of ropes and sheaves, but it could be brought back into use with the right determination. There was at least one other in GB. Billy Butlin had one at his holiday camp in Skegness. Anyone know of any others?
I'm in my 40s now, but this ride i went on it just before 1st lockdown and i loved it still today, so many of my childhood memories are from this ride that its still in my top 3 just because of the memories of PB when i was a kid. i took my partner on it who's never been to blackpool before, he thought it was just a silly old boring ride till it got to its speed then he said he can see why i loved this ride. I can't wait to go back this year.
I forgot this existed somehow. I went on it today and it was so much fun. Laughed the whole ride through. I wish there were more of these rides around.
Went to Blackpool this Summer and while normally being more into rollercoasters and thrillrides, I have a soft spot for nostalgic attractions. I really enjoyed Derby Racers, it was faster than expected and with the organ playing and the beautiful decorations, it was a great experience 😊
I know it’s silly but this is my favourite ride in Blackpool (well maybe Alice and wonderland) purely because they’re the first rides I always went on when I came over from Northern Ireland when I was younger. Pure nostalgia 🥲
I took my kids on this in the eighties and I was amazed at how fast it was! I let my four year old daughter go on the horse on her own and was panicking throughout the ride in case she didn't hold on tight enough...she absolutely loved it!
@@yourexperienceguide Ooh heck ! Be careful.. they will be ok though... Sit in front of Daddy/Mommy and seat belt on .. they will be fine ... My son went on this at 4: and loved it. ...but I've also seen young kids scream n cry throughout the ride too
I rode on the Derby Racer in Cedar Point back in 2017... loved it from the first ride! I definitely wanna go to Blackpool's whenever I visit the UK in the next few years or so.
Love the pleasure beach going there tomorrow and seeing on ride pov makes me wanna go even more I cant wait its gonna be superb and going on this, big one, spongebob splash, spongebob bus tour, big dipper, blue flyer, icon, grand national, other horse ride cant think of any more names😂 Love ur on ride pov and channel 🥳🥳Happy 125th birthday pleasure beach x🥳🥳

I can remember when the horses used to move forwards and backwards .Anybody know why they stopped that?
Tech reasons
Such a shame the unique racing motion had to be disabled but still remains a great but underrated ride.

Fun fact the organ on the derby racer and on the gallopers are made by the same company called Verbeeck in Belgium.

Hi David, I only have two tattoos, Superman and Goku (Dragonball Z). I should get a BPB tattoo someday.
