I lost 37 lives on Cortex Castle (not including the 20+ lives I “lost” on the Bonus stage), and through the whole thing, I was so frustrated and angry that I kept screaming at my TV and desperately wanted to, no, NEEDED to break something into tiny pieces. Afterwards, I learned that some people lost over 100 lifes trying to do this. My frustration was still real though🤬
@@XaneTenshi I've lost over 300 lives and I've still only got one gem. My wisdom tooth surgery that I was dreading 2 years ago sounds a hell of a lot more fun than trying to 100% Cortex Castle.
Failure is just you trying to learn the game, you have to fail to succeed. Eventually it will be trivial which would lead to boredom, but that’s what happens when the game is played so much.
I always thought failure means you suck and should pretty much give up on the game. Probably explains why I don't play Crash much and prefer watching someone else play it. Also because my brother wouldn't let me play his games as a kid.

Now, considering all the extra contents in the game, some are hard, but still not that bad. To me, the game is hard if is difficult to even play it. And I repeat, games like wanna be the guy, 95% of the players can even pass through two stages of the game. You can't evaluate a game as being hard by its extra contents, like, "this game is difficult, try to play on expert mode". So, if you take the campaign of crash, is definitely not hard. And even if you take platinum relics and perfect relics still not that hard as simply the campaign of wanna be the guy and e bunch of other games.
Cortex castle is one of the easiest levels once you've played it a couple of times, it's only hard because it overloads you with masks in that last section before you can even comprehend what's going on, it's the only level I accidentally got a dev time for when I was going for 106% completion

I had to practice this level to get the N. Sanely Perfect Relic. A couple of weeks ago, I finally got it after 2 and a half hours while still in retro mode.
I switched to Modern Mode, too. "Recommended" is just that, or this game will drive you (and your wrists) to an early grave. But I love every second of it, too.
I almost did like 5 times but my stubborn ass likes pain apparently. Really wish they had "N sane" Mode that didnt give free checkpoints after lots of deaths
I thank my OCD for getting me that flashback tape. Seriously, I (barely) felt anything when I died in the level. I WILL say the flashback tape I received is without a doubt the hardest level in the game. So much so I didn't bother beating it.

Naughty Dog: We cut Stormy Ascent from the game because we thought the stage was unfair Toys for Bob: We threw literally every single idea we had at the wall regardless of how cheap it was and called it a day.
This is really more of a horror game. Traditional or modern, the call was coming from inside the Salty Spitoon. Hell, you never actually left the Salty Spitoon. To quote Pinhead, "Your suffering will be legendary, even in Hell."
I remember starting off with modern and the last half doing retro that was a terrible idea, I did manage to pass this level eventually though, that final part with all the masks is actually crazy difficult
Toxic tunnels gem path is worst in my opinion, specially that tight slide jump on the green gem section. I have everything but the time relic in Cortex Castle, but I'm still struggling to get that one.
The only reason I survived retro mode on cortex castle on my 1st play through was because there was a lot of those big mangos that gave you a bunch of mangos, ( or whatever those fruits are), and that kept my lives going up, up, and up. If those giant mangos weren’t there, it probably would’ve taken me at least another hour lol
Modern mode vs the classic mode doesn't change anything. The really difficult thing about this game are the relics, and those you can die without losing lifes. I mean, that only changes for beginners in this game. And to be honest, my platinum relic on stormy ascent was way harder than 80% of crash 4.
