      @@worthshop "Redbeard's Garage" just featured 999cc with 58 ft lb torque, would power a bug like it was "factree" (VGG haha). the power and rpm range are so similar to a boxer engine anyway really. electric starter and a charging system that'd likely support LED headlights, turn signals etc too? I get this project is just for giggles and has its quirks+shortcomings, same time it gets the point across pretty well. little old 3 cylinder Geo Metro was 1 liter with a 5 speed giving +55 mpg if you were nice to it, a VW bug could do similarly and look 5 times classier than a bread box Metro any day.
      if you get a "round tuit".. deal on a clean bug to play with etc, its a project idea I'd love to see realized. no fuss no muss easy replacement, the cooling blower and cylinder head shrouds could be plumbed to existing heater tubes that run up the outer pan floor.. insulating inside body with 1" foam board would be inexpensive+simple too. cables to the factory heater boxes are already there to play with. bugs are such great tinker-toys!

    The Idea is awesome, but it needs a bigger motor
    a 625cc 1 cylinder engine would have enough power to push a buggy on a steep gradient
    and have the torque to run a 1:1 motor to gearbox pulley

    • @worthshop
      @worthshop  2 года назад

      Agree it needs a little bigger engine. But I would do a 2:1 reduction with the bigger engine. The reduction would lower top speed but provide more torque and power at the lower speeds. Make it funner to drive off road in my opinion. Thanks for watching.
