THE BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG that I have EVER HEARD! All the greats singing/joining in!!! *Goosebumps. Every. Time*! This song will ALWAYS B special to me... Jeff, if U see this, Ill always miss U & wish we could b friends!
sorry but this is Doug Supernaw singing lead, though Merle does sing a line in the second verse ('and you dont have to call me merle haggard anymore, even though your on my fighting side")
What.. .Steve Goodman . . . overated??? what an immensely talented person he was. I'm only sorry that I did not find out about him until very recently, although I 've been a Kristoffersen fan now for over 40 years. Do you know anything at all about Steve? Steve was multi talented, he knew that he was not going to live a long life, but he lived it to the fullest, plus he enjoyed his life and never complained. I beg you, follow him up a little . .and then calle him (cough...cough) overrated.
Merle Haggard-you never called me by my name. What a powerful voice and message, they don't make music like this these days.
Legit the best version of this song! Brings back such fun memories!

Although to be fair it was a duet with another patron...
This is a great song but it's not Merle Haggard. It's David Allan Coe

David Allen coe did a cover for this song but this is definitely Merle haggard and Charlie pride and Waylon
