    I must have watched this 50 times in a row! I nearly got into modular about 10 years ago, but couldn't work out how to fit it into my workflow. This is exactly what I need and having a small case really focuses you on what each thing is doing, although I can imagine very quickly buying more cases :) I just managed to get a brand new Beads from the US - probably the last one... Great videos, thanks!

    Amazing video. Highlight of my Sunday. I really related to your comment about buying qu-bit chord being a sign that you wanted to be playing chords haha. I find that I don’t really make full tracks with my modular even though I have a pretty large system. I love using Beads in Granular mode but also to syncopate delays - using it as a Delay line. Sending a slow scaled pulse from Pam's to change between 2 delay times works really well - a sort of Dynamic Dub style.

      Cheers man! I think Beads definitely has a lot more depth, but it's taken me quite a while to appreciate it. The first few months with Beads I really didn't like it - but now I love it. The fact that it's also a delay, reverb and oscillator makes it hard to beat.
      The Data Bender sounds good instantly without much experimentation. It does what it does extremely well and does make everything sound better. The bit-crush and saturation effects are very musical and the freeze/beat-repeat is something I use all the time.
      I think it depends what you're looking to do. If you wanna spice up full tracks/beats/performances then I'd go for DB, if you're more looking to sound design and create wacky/interesting sounds then I'd go for Beads.

    Ive been semi-mod for a solid year and loving it -- been really wanting to get into modular and this EXACTLY the kind of thing Id like to start with. I literally posted it on Reddit asking a good starter setup with clocking, dedicated effects, and maybe a thing two to add sounds, but really mostly effects/modulation-source/clocking. I came to the same conclusion after watching and watching, that I would need so much stuff to make full tracks.
    I also used to write a ton with the op1, but I broke my connector port and while I was waiting for them to be in stock, the OP1field came out and I bought that.
    That data bender makes some super cool effects- it will be a must-have when I get a small system like this. Ive been eyeing it for a minute, and Pams/Maths seem like almost must-haves in this world. Would you be offended if I were to get a lot of the same modules cuz this is very much the kinda thing I was looking to do with Modular. haha. You make great beats my friend!

    • @TheUnperson
      @TheUnperson  Год назад

      Cheers for the comment! I gotta say I’m pretty jealous of your op1 field. My main complaint about the op1 is that you can’t sample in stereo. I reckon the field + modular will be an insanely powerful combo!
      Absolutely you can copy my exact rig if you like lol. I’m glad my videos can help inspire people to find creative ways to make music ☺️

    • @d3maccus
      @d3maccus Год назад

      @@TheUnperson thanks for responding - what i meant to ask was does your modular system have stereo in from outside source? Also how many input ports can you record from at once? The data bender stereo effects are just awesome - u probably dont really need stereo effects from the field- it would get kinda crowded. Its a nice machine, but def overpriced i got my OGfairly early and cheaper - one thing that sucks is to use clock master via ring/tip split u cant record stereo unless you record via usb, but then i cant also use my audio interface at the same time in DAW with other synths.

    • @TheUnperson
      @TheUnperson  Год назад

      @@d3maccus I'm using the Pico Input module which has 2 inputs so yea you can input stereo signals. As for recording multiple inputs it kinda depends. You could get a mixer with pans which would allow you input more, or you could make different chains inside the modular (op1 into the data bender, op1 field into beads, etc).

    Thanks for this thorough walkthrough! Got some ideas for my own setup out of this. Thanks!
    Got a quick question: in your video(s) with this rack there seem to be echos on the higher frequencies but not so much on the low end, which made me curious how you achieve this.
    Does the z5000 have some sort of frequency dependent echo, so that your tracks don’t get drowned in bassdrum or general bass frequency echos while the delay still gets applied to higher frequencies? I hope I’m making sense here. 😅

    • @TheUnperson
      @TheUnperson  Год назад

      Thank you! The z5000 does have a filter which can roll the low-end off of the repeats, but to be honest, even when the the lows come through it never seems to get too muddy! In theory it seems like a terrible idea to run an entire mix through a delay but somehow it seems to work okay :D

    • @constantinflux
      @constantinflux Год назад

      @@TheUnperson It’s pretty cool that it works like this. I’m going to check out if I can use Mimeophon in a similar way and maybe even ask the guys from tiptop what kind of magic this is! Do you know from the top of your head which delay preset you’re generally using? I read up on the z5000 and in some presets (namely: 🟡🔴🔴, 🟡🟡🔴, 🔴🟡🟡, 🟡🟡🟡), the lowpass filter is a bandpass filter on the delay, which would explain a lot!
